Chapter 3 (Percy) The Reveal
All that stuff about my dad being a god was doing my head in. I mean great my dad's a god but I don't even KNOW who he is. According to Grover and the centaur Chiron, there are twelve Olympians, eight males and five females. The male gods were Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Ares, Hermes, Apollo, Hephaestus and Dionysus. The female gods were Hera, Demeter, Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis and Hestia. They say that Hestia gave her throne away for Dionysus. Also, according to Grover was that the dude in the Hawaiian shirt who looked as if he was on drugs was supposedly the god Dionysus. Another thing was that pretty blond girl and her brother. They look way to good. Especially the girl but they look nothing alike. Grover told me Adrian was different to the other children of Athena. He was a more powerful half-blood than others. When the god Dionysus was talking about me, I felt rather self-conscious that everyone was looking at me. Their expressions ranged from 'WOW! That's the kid that killed the Minotaur' to 'Da hell is this kid'. Grover wasn't really helpful either. He kept chewing a tin can which I still found rather disturbing even after he assured me that it was a good source of iron. I didn't believe him.
After dinner, I walked back to the Hermes cabin with the other Hermes kids. Luke Castellan was their head counsellor and was probably the only friendly person in the entire cabin. He told me a couple of stories about the gods and some heroes including my namesake, the original Perseus. The next couple of days I found myself tagging alongside Luke. The campers climbed the lava wall, rode pegasi, had sword fights in the arena and a bunch of other activities. Luke tried to help me figure out who my pop was but we didn't go far. The only activity I was good at was canoeing which isn't the thing that you would think was good for someone who killed the Minotaur.
On Friday, it was Capture the Flag. The pretty blond girl, Annabeth, wanted me on my team after I drenched Clarisse, a daughter of Ares, with toilet water. Annabeth's brother was also on our team. Athena cabin had made a temporary alliance with the Hermes and Apollo cabin. Ares, the enemy team, had allied itself with the rest of the cabins. I was sent to border patrol and I stood there for ten minutes like a fool. Then, out of nowhere, five Ares kids ran at me. One of them was Clarisse and they kicked me and practically beat me up. To my right, there was a river and bolting across it, was Luke with the enemy flag. We had won the game but not all the excitement was over. From the deeper part of the woods, a dog-like beast growled and pounced upon me. I heard Chiron calling for his bow but before anything else happened, a dagger hit the beast right in its mouth. The creature fell on top of me and someone pushed it off.
" You alright man?" It was Adrian.
"You call this alright?" I got up from the ground.
"Don't listen to him." It was the pretty girl, Annabeth.
Adrian shook his head. "I didn't mean the hellhound. I meant his injuries. They just disappeared."
Annabeth studied me carefully. I wasn't used to pretty girls looking at me. I was going to say something when Adrian told me to step in the water. I did.
"Step out again." I stepped out and Adrian sliced his sword at my arm leaving a cut. I cried out in pain.
"WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?" screamed Annabeth.
Adrian look at me. "Go back in the water Percy"
I stepped back in. Instantly my arm healed.
"Holy Zeus, this is not good at all. Zeus and Poseidon?" muttered Adrian.
"What do you mean?" I asked. He pointed to something above my head. It was sign. It was the symbol of a trident. The symbol of Poseidon. All around me campers, led by Chiron, knelt. Some quickly, some reluctantly.
Adrian knelt and spoke, "All hail Perseus Jackson. Son of Poseidon. Son of the Sea God."
His brown eyes met mine and a mutual understanding formed between the two of us.
