Lieutenant Adventures Season 17, Chapter 13, 20 September 2023. Echoes of Eternity: Unraveling the Timeless Enigma.

16th Lieutenant: 'I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary adventures of my 13th incarnation, whose journey took an unexpected turn in this captivating chapter. In this installment, my 13th incarnation embarked on a voyage that led him to the most breathtaking corners of the universe, before stumbling upon a small town nestled in the heart of Qaweritoyu.

'Captivated by the town's idyllic charm and its warm-hearted residents, my 13th incarnation made a life-changing decision. Sensing a calling to protect the town from the relentless attacks it faced, he chose to retire from his cosmic travels and dedicate himself to the defense and well-being of its inhabitants.

'By day, the town embraced a tranquility that seemed untouched by the chaos of the universe. But as the sun set and the darkness loomed, the town became a target for assailants seeking to disrupt its peaceful existence. Determined to shield the residents from harm, my 13th incarnation devised an ingenious plan. He erected torches around the town, their flickering flames warding off attackers and creating a barrier of protection.

'Driven by his desire to empower the townspeople, my 13th incarnation opened businesses and shops, providing them with the necessary materials to construct their own weapons. He became their mentor, training them in the arts of defense and imparting his knowledge of combat and self-protection. It was a transformational period, as the once vulnerable townsfolk evolved into a resilient community capable of defending themselves against any threat.

'Amidst his commitment to safeguarding the town, my 13th incarnation forged a profound friendship with the Mayor, Weronika. Their bond deepened with each passing day, as they shared laughter, hardships, and the weight of responsibility. Together, they faced the challenges that arose, their unwavering dedication to the town becoming a testament to the strength of their connection.

'To ensure his privacy and maintain a sense of seclusion, my 13th incarnation constructed his own house underwater, away from prying eyes. There, he resided with his loyal companion, Kellie, finding solace in the serenity beneath the waves.

'In this chapter, my 13th incarnation discovered a new purpose, a calling to protect and nurture a community amidst the vastness of the universe. Through his unwavering dedication and resourcefulness, he transformed a vulnerable town into a bastion of strength and resilience. The friendships he formed and the bond he shared with the Mayor embodied the profound connections that can be forged in the face of adversity.

'I reflect on this chapter, marveling at the transformation of my 13th incarnation and the indomitable spirit of the town he came to call home. Their story serves as a reminder that even amidst the boundless expanse of time and space, there are places where one can find refuge, purpose, and a sense of belonging.

13th Lieutenant: The Lieutenant noticed the TARDIS was on the blink so he was strolling around, casting his eye over the screens on the console, checking the readings and adjusting the coordinates each time they slipped, back to where he was heading.

'What marvel are we going to adore this time?' asked Kellie, hopefully. She had warmed to the new Lieutenent.

'A very different marvel to the ones we have adored so far,' said the Lieutenant, not looking up.

'Oooh, that sounds intriguing,' said Kellie.

'It is, or it ought to be,' said the Lieutenant, re-typing the coordinates for the sixth time.

'So tell me about this different marvel,' said Kellie.

'It's a marvel on the inside, rather than the outside. Since my regeneration, I have been trying to show you the marvels of the Universe but sometimes the greatest marvels are inside us,' said the Lieutenant, calmly, soothingly. 'I have decided to semi-retire from adventures, to find a peaceful, small community, to make my home there and to settle down and protect the community from outside invaders,' he said.

'That sounds lovely, Lieutenant, it really does,' said Kellie, beaming. 'I'm up for it,' she said.

'Only if you're sure,' said the Lieutenant.

'Of course I am,' said Kellie.

'We're heading for Qaweritoyu, it's a lovely country, I have been there many a time before, I was there at the overthrow of the Royal Family and I was their President for a time too. They won't recognise me now, definitely not, but I am not going to inform them who I am. I am on course to a small town there called Cadmium, it's a lovely place. it's in need of a bit of protection and I can see us arriving there, setting ourselves up there and preparing them to defend themselves,' said the Lieutenant, almost presenting his entire plan to Kellie.

'I think you are undertaking something very noble and thankless, Lieutenant, it's lovely to see,' said Kellie, gently.

'It's not there to be noble and thankless, I know it will be thankless, it's there to help a defenceless town protect themselves and be a place I can retire and enjoy what's left of my life, because I have no regenerations left, let's face it, there is no next incarnation, this is it, death is next,' said the Lieutenant. He pulled the Master Lever.

The TARDIS materialised.

The Lieutenant activated the hologram. 'Now, look carefully at the image, Kellie,' he said. 'We've arrived during the day, and the reason for that is that if we arrived at night, we'd be in the middle of an attempted invasion and we'd be overwhelmed before we started. At night, this really is a hell hole. Look how open this is, Kellie,' he said.

'Is this for real?' asked Kellie.

'Mhm,' said the Lieutenant.

'This is ridiculous. Did we arrive early on in the day? Is this earth?' asked Kellie.

'It is ridiculous, this is earth, yes, we're in the Southern Hemisphere, the South Pacific and yes, this is about 8AM,' said the Lieutenant.

'Good,' said Kellie, 'because we have a lot of work to do to get them protected by this evening,' she said.

'Oh, no, I would be very surprised if we had the town protected by this evening. we will have to accept that our work will not begin to bear fruits for a few weeks but, eventually, we will manage to defend and protect this community,' said the Lieutenant.

'I suppose, we're not miracle workers,' said Kellie.

'No, we're not,' agreed the Lieutenant, shutting off the hologram. He activated the door control and strode out of the TARDIS, followed by Kellie, pushing the door shut behind them.

A man was walking slowly toward them, smiling brightly, with what looked like a mayor's necklace on.

The Lieutenant and Kellie smiled back.

'Who's he?' whispered Kellie.

'The Mayor, at a guess,' whispered the Lieutenant.

Kellie rolled her eyes, though the Lieutenant didn't see it. 'I gathered that but how did he know we were going to arrive? Isn't the perception filter working?' she asked.

'That's a point,' said the Lieutenant, his smile turning to a frown. 'No-one here should have noticed us arriving.'

When the man reached them, he stopped and looked at Kellie and beamed. 'Welcome to Cadmium!' he exclaimed.

Kellie beamed back but glanced sideways at the Lieutenant, realising the man had just ignored him. Maybe he couldn't see him.

'I'm Mayor Weronika, I run the local community here in Cadmium,' he said.

'Ahem,' said the Lieutenant, very sarcastically.

'Oh, I apologise if you took that to be rude but I think your friend hasn't been here before but I have a suspicion as to who you are, old chap, and I think I am welcoming you back to Qaweritoyu, am I right?' asked the Mayor.

The Lieutenant looked confused. 'Do you recognise me?' he asked. 'You shouldn't.'

'No, I don't, but I think I recognise your transport but, of course, I can't be sure,' said the Mayor with a warm smile that relaxed the Lieutenant a bit.

'Go on,' said the Lieutenant, expecting the Mayor to be wrong.

'Lieutenant?' asked the Mayor.

Kellie gasped.

The Mayor noticed and grinned. 'It is you, isn't it!'

'Wow!' exclaimed the Lieutenant. 'Yes, you're right! It is me!' he exclaimed.

'I recognised your TARDIS,' said the Mayor. 'Mostly, the perception filter did work but there were a select few of us who knew our former President wasn't human and even fewer who knew you were a Time Lord. Rest assured, the majority don't know,' he said.

'Are you a Time Lord?' asked the Lieutenant.

'No, I'm human,' said the Mayor.

'How did you...?' began the Lieutenant.

'Google,' said the Mayor.

'Really?' asked the Lieutenant.

'Really,' said the Mayor.

'Wow,' said the Lieutenant, looking to Kellie and back to the Mayor. 'I learnt something new today, I didn't know I was on Google,' he said.

'There you go!' exclaimed the Mayor. 'Welcome back, Mister President!' he exclaimed.

'Thank you very much!' exclaimed the Lieutenant. 'Although, I would rather that wasn't shouted around, if that's OK. I was attracted here by your night trouble, with the intention of preparing you to move forward into the future, with the means to look after yourselves and to semi-retire to your wonderful community,' he explained.

'That's fine, sir, and I'm sure the community will highly-appreciate your work here. Let's get you set up here,' said the Mayor, leading the Lieutenant and Kellie away from the TARDIS.

'I'd like to be able to build my own house, if that's OK, so I hope this setting up will be purely administrative,' said the Lieutenant.

'As you wish, sir,' said the Mayor, leading them back to his house, where he undertook all the administration associated with integrating the Lieutenant into the community as protector.

As time went on, the Lieutenant devised a brilliant plan. He strategically placed torches around its perimeter, their flickering flames serving as a formidable deterrent against the attackers. The fiery barriers created a shield of protection, ensuring the safety of the townsfolk as they slept peacefully, free from the threat of harm.

The Lieutenant's commitment went beyond mere defence. He opened businesses and shops, providing the residents with the tools and materials needed to forge their own weapons. It was a gesture of empowerment, instilling in them the ability to fight for their own safety and preserving their independence. The Lieutenant, with his vast knowledge and skills, became their mentor, training them in the art of defense and teaching them how to protect themselves from any threat that might arise.

Amidst his dedication to the town, the Lieutenant formed a deep and lasting friendship with Mayor Weronika. Their bond grew stronger with each passing day as they faced the challenges together. Laughter and shared hardships cemented their connection, their unwavering devotion to the town serving as a testament to their shared purpose.

To maintain a sense of seclusion, the Lieutenant constructed his own house underwater, away from prying eyes. It was a sanctuary where he and Kellie found solace, submerged beneath the waves as they navigated the complexities of their chosen path. He moved the TARDIS down there to keep her out of harm's way.

The Lieutenant had discovered a new calling. He became the guardian of Cadmium, sleeping by day and fighting by night, transforming it into a bastion of strength and resilience. Their journey epitomized the transformative power of unity and determination in the face of adversity.

The Lieutenant's presence breathed new life into the town, as the residents embraced their newfound empowerment. They honed their skills and stood tall against the attackers who once threatened their peaceful existence. The echoes of their resilience reverberated throughout the universe, a testament to the indomitable spirit that can arise even in the most challenging circumstances.

Even in retirement, the Lieutenant just could not sit still. It was as if he had forgotten how to relax, how not to be an inspiring, father-like figure in the Universe. In the quiet town of Cadmium in the Republic of Qaweritoyu, his legacy lived on, an enduring reminder that even in the vast expanse of the universe, there are places where one can find purpose, forge deep connections, and make a lasting impact.
