Hiro Mashima owns Fairy Tail and I'm just playing with the characters.
A sun rising from East, a new day arrived to Magnolia. A single mailman made his way down the still empty streets of the town. He arrived at a massive building with 'Fairy Tail' written over its' gate. Before walking to the front doors, the man took a punch of fliers and couple of letters out of his bag. Then with his free hand he gave one of the big wooden doors a strong knock. Moment later a beautiful white haired woman opened it.
"Good morning, Miss." The postman greeted the beauty with a lift of his hat.
"Good morning to you too." The woman greeted back, smile dancing on her lips. She took the fliers and the letters the man handed to her, then bid him farewells. "Have a good day."
"The same to you, Miss." The postman lifted his hat a second time and then turned to leave.
The woman, Mirajane Strauss, waved after him and then turned herself back inside the building. With a small hum she walked trough a hall like space filled with table and benches to the other side of the building. This early in the morning she was usually the only person present, but by the midday the whole building and the hall would be filled with life. All kind of personalities would be brought together to create a unique bunch called Fairy Tail. They were a wizard guild like no other.
Mirajane lowered the letters on a bar counter and walked to a nearby board with the fliers. One by one she started to stick them on the board, reading through them all before doing so. They were job offers for the guild's mages, varying from finding a lost pet to taking out monsters, anything a wizard could do better than a person without magic.
When she was done the woman headed back to the bar and picked up the letters. Most of them were addressed to their Master and were send by the Magic Council, a organization that supervised all the legal guilds and their activities in their kingdom, Fiore. Mirajane, or shortly Mira, smiled sheepishly when she guessed what the letters probably hold in. Sadly their guild wasn't know for their high success rate on missions, but rather for their destructive nature. There was hardly a day Master wouldn't receive warnings from the Council to fix his guild members' behavior.
Lowering the letters for Master back to the counter for the time being, Mira moved to inspect the remaining three letters. One of them was a letter for herself - it was surely just an other request to model for Sorcerer, a magazine. The second letter was addressed to Erza Scarlet, one of the S-class mages of the guild, and the last one was send to Laxus Dreyar, an other S-class mage. Mira blinked her eyes at the letter, and turned it around couple times trying to find the sender's name. It wasn't rare for S-class mages to receive special job requests meant only for them, but this was the first time Mira had seen one addressed to Laxus. It was true that the man was known for his skills and extraordinary strength, but sadly those weren't his only trademarks. Bad temper, foul language, intimidating presence... The list of the man's bad features was much longer than his good ones.
Mira felt tempted to open the letter and see what was written in it. She wanted to know what kind of a mission required the man's power, and what kind of a person was asking him to do it. But knowing that it was not her business, Mira gave up on the idea and once more picked up all the letters. Starting her humming again, she walked to a stairs leading to a second floor, where Master's office was located. She would go drop the letters in there and then start getting ready for the day. It was surely going to be busy one, just like every other day with Fairy Tail.
A small old man pushed one of the doors of Fairy Tail open and stepped inside to the building. As he walked deeper the people he passed greeted him and he greeted them back. When he reached the bar on the other end of the hall, he jumped on the counter. The leap happened so easily that it was hard to believe the old man was already on his eighties.
"Morning, Master." Mira, who was now working behind the counter filling out the orders of her guild mates, smiled at the elderly.
"Morning, Mira. How has things gone today?" Makarov Dreyar, the third Master of Fairy Tail, asked the barmaid. He sat down on the counter, legs crossed and face toward the rest of the guild.
"Surprisingly quiet." Mira answered and placed a beer next to the tiny man. Knowing Master inside out, she knew what he wanted without him saying anything. "Natsu and Gray are both on missions, so the worst brawlers are away." She explained while leaning against the counter. Natsu Dragneel and Gray Fulbuster. Those two youngsters were always on each others throats, and always dragging half of the guild into their fights.
Makarov nodded taking his beer. He immediately started to empty the mug of yellowish liquid. "Anything else?" The old man knew his guild's tendency to cause ruckus too well to believe that the day would have gone without trouble. The woman tapped her lips thinking, then she pointed the finger toward Makarov and smiled.
"You got couple letters from the Magic council." She chirped and Makarov's face soured. He knew it. A peaceful day just wasn't something he would get while working as the Master of Fairy Tail. Mira giggled gently when she saw the expression change on the old man's wrinkly face, but then she remembered something else. "Actually..." She started and had to hold laughter back as Master's face twisted with more horror, fearing that she would tell something even worse. "Laxus got a job request."
The horror on his face disappeared. "Laxus?" Makarov blinked his eyes. "That boy got a job request? From who?"
"I don't know the sender since it wasn't written on the envelope. I left it on your desk with the other letters." Mira told, then she saw someone motioning her to come over in a nearby table. Knowing that she had told Master all she had wanted, she circled on the other side of the counter and headed toward the table.
Makarov, who was left with his beer, took a deep sip from it. Then he got up and jumped down from the counter with the beer still in hand. He wanted to know who had been foolish enough to ask assistance from his stubborn grandson. Maybe he could take a peek... Laxus had been gone for a while now and who knows when the brat decides to show his face at the guild next time. If the mission was something urgent, he would be forced to contact him. Though the boy wouldn't like it...
