"Mamma Mia!" Mario groaned. "I got a-pounded by Peach!"

"Ai-Ai-Ai!" Luigi cried. "Daisy a-whooped me!"

"Beaten," Link grumbled, "by Zelda!"

"I can't believe I lost," Fox complained, "to Krystal!"

The four iconic game characters were laying in beds of the stadium infirmary, their bodies all bandaged up. They were confiding in one another over how badly their last Smash battles had gone. Each of them had been pitted against their female companions. None of the males had managed to win their successful matches. They had all been defeated by their women opponents.

"You would no think I need to save Peach from Bowser all the time," Mario complained, "the way she a-kicked my butt!"

"I hear you, man!" Link agreed. "Wish Zelda would show that same toughness she delivered to me towards Ganondorf instead of relying on me to save her all the time!"

"Ha!"

A cocky laugh from nearby caught the attention of the four dismayed males. They turned to see they had a visitor at the infirmary. None of them were pleased to see him with that ever cocky grin on his face.

"Just admit you guys lost to those girls because you're too soft!" Sonic jeered.

"We are no soft!" Luigi argued irritably - being in complete denial of how he was one of the softest players in Smash.

"You fellas didn't wanna hurt those girls!" Sonic snickered. "No wonder they were able to beat you so easily!"

The four beaten players glanced at one another. They had to admit, they had been reluctant to fight against the very girls who they founded themselves pitted against. None of them had wanted to battle the women who were very precious to them. It was too bad their respective female opponents all had victory on their minds.

"Careful, Sonic," Fox warned. "You might find yourself up against against a girl you wouldn't like to hurt!"

"Pah! Sonic scoffed. "No one who comes up in a battle against Sonic the Hedgehog will find I wanna go easy on them - as the newest member of Smash is about to find out!"

The blue hedgehog sped at supersonic speed out of the infirmary, heading towards the arena where he was about to face off against the latest player to join the roster. He left behind the four beaten males he'd been mocking. All of them watched him leave with fierce glares on their faces. While they had failed to win their battles against their female counterparts, Sonic had succeeded to wind them all up with his arrogance.

"I a-hate that hedgehog," Mario muttered, having the biggest resentment for Sonic out of all of them…

The moment Sonic raced into the arena, the crowd exploded into erupting and cheers. Everyone was showing their enthusiasm upon seeing the blue hedgehog. He'd always been a popular player of Smash. It was going to see such an iconic and long-running competitor do battle against a new recruit.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Sonic bowed, enjoying all the attention he was receiving from his countless fans. "So where's this new member of Smash I'm going to show what I'm made of?"

"Right here, Sonic…"

Sonic's ears twitched as he hearer a voice speak from nearby. It was a voice he recognised easily, causing his vain smile to disappear upon realising how close it was. He hesitantly turned his gaze to where his opponent was stood - his jaw dropped open finding out who he was pitted against in this battle.

"Amy?"

"That's right, Sonic…" Amy Rose was standing in the arena, right opposite the blue hedgehog. "I'm the one you have to fight against."

"Y-You're the new member of Smash?" Sonic cried, horrified that he was expected to fight the cheerful pink hedgehog. "Why?"

"So that I could be close to you, of course." Amy smiled with a flutter of her eyelashes. "Although I didn't expect to be this close to you of course."

Sonic's heart raced. He was horrified that he was being expected to fight against Amy. He didn't want to hurt the pink hedgehog who was infatuated with him. He was always protecting her from danger and rescuing her from trouble. The last thing he wanted to do was cause her any harm.

"READY?!" The announcer boomed. "GO!"

The crowd went wild over the battle that was about to unfold. Everyone in the stadium watched the two hedgehogs in the arena. There was no telling what was going to happen to them - especially when they just so happened to be close friends.

Slowly, Amy walked along the arena floor, heading up towards her blue opponent.

Sonic took a step back, desperately trying to keep away from Amy. He was used to running away from her over how she was always showering him with affection. This time, however, he didn't want her near him only because he didn't want to battle her.

"Amy!" Sonic cried. "I can't fight you!"

The pink hedgehog stopped before the blue one. She gazed up at him with her sparkling green eyes - before suddenly whipping out and arming herself with her giant hammer.

Sonic wailed, his face filling with alarm over seeing Amy had brought her iconic weapon to Smash - and where she was preparing to swing it.

"I know, Sonic!" Amy grinned. "HIIIIII-YA!"

With a loud cry, Amy swung her hammer around with all her strength - to strike Sonic as hard as she could.

The blue hedgehog was knocked off his feet. He yelled and cried as he was hurled high into the air towards the ceiling high above. He burst through the roof of the stadium, leaving a hole behind as he was flung out of the building, unable to do battle against his pink opponent.

"GAME!" the announcer thundered. "AMY ROSE WINS!"

The entire stadium exploded into applause. Cameras flashed brightly as colorful confetti fluttered down. Everyone in the crowd stood from their seats, clapping and cheering for Amy over how well she did in her debut battle.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Amy posed triumphantly with her hammer, blowing kisses to the crowd. "I love you all!"

"You did great, Amy!" Peach said praisingly.

"An excellent performance for your first battle!" Zelda agreed.

"You remember everything we taught you in your training!" Krystal commented.

"That you can easily convince a male opponent not to harm you!" Daisy giggled. "Especially it's a male who cares about you!"

"Thanks, you guys!" Amy smiled at the female Smash players who'd mentored her since she had joined the tournament. "I always knew Sonic cared about me!"

The pink hedgehog turned to see where her blue hero was. After she had beaten him with her hammer, he'd been brought back to the stadium and sent straight to the infirmary for treatment. Sonic was laying in one of the beds. His body covered in bandages as well as bruises from being struck by Amy's hammer.

Sonic groaned in agony as well as irritation. His bed was amongst those of the four male players he'd been making fun of earlier. None of them were able to resist a chance to dig at him after seeing him lose his battle to a female opponent like they had.

"Can you guys believe Sonic the Hedgehog lost his battle to a girl, you guys?" Link sneered.

"Who'd have thought it?" Fox cackled. "He must be going soft!"

"He must a-really care about Amy to not hit her!" Luigi added.

"Shut up, you guys!" Sonic snapped - then groaned. "Ohhh, my body hurts!"

"It does?!" Hearing her hero voice how much pain he was in, the pink hedgehog instant ran straight to his side, gently rubbing his forehead with her hand. "Don't worry, Sonic! Let Nurse Amy nurse you back to health. I'll take good care of you! I'll never leave your side!"

Sonic clenched his teeth. It was bad enough that Amy was the one responsible for his injuries. But now she was determined to play the caring nurse and not leave him alone? Why couldn't he ever get a break from this girl?

"Not so a-cool now," Mario snickered. "Are you, Sonic?"

Sonic grunted. He didn't know what was worse; losing a battle to Amy and then having her cling to his side - or being beaten by a girl and getting humiliated in front of Mario.
