Prologue
Staring at herself in the mirror, Kagome found it hard to believe the path she was on. When asked a year ago today, she would have never said this is what she'd be.
She glanced down at her open palm. As she did, a spark of blue flames formed. The blue was swift to fade to a haunting white, leaving the blue at the base in her palm. Despite the contrast between her skin and the heat against it, she had no reaction to the fire.
"Kagome!" Her mother opened her door, and Kagome allowed the fire to extinguish as she turned to face her. "Izuku is here," she told her. Kagome nodded and moved from where she sat to gather her bag from her desk.
"Can you let him know I'll be right down, Mama?" she asked, and the woman nodded with a bright smile.
"He already knows," she said as Kagome giggled. "Don't take too long," she said. "You two will end up late."
"I won't," Kagome said as she shoved the last of her things into her bag. Once they were put away, she followed the path her mother had taken downstairs. Upon reaching the base of the stairs, she quickly spotted her friend. He saw her just as quickly, and he sent her a warm smile.
"Are you ready to go?" he asked, and she nodded.
"Yeah," she said. "Let's go."
It'd been his idea to walk to school together. She couldn't be bothered to reject it. Not when it seemed like a nice idea to her, too.
They made it down the several steps leading up to the shrine grounds and started on their route to school. One of them stepped a bit too close to the other, and their hands brushed against each other.
Midoriya jumped when her hand brushed against his own. Kagome didn't react, even when he glanced at her in concern. He looked at his hand. The spot of contact with her own had become numb even with the faintest touch.
"Your hand is freezing," he stated. "Are you not cold?"
Kagome shook her head. She was more than used to the cold temperature of her own body. "I'm fine," she responded. She's always had a lower temperature even before her Quirk awakened, but now that it was, her body's temperature seemed to spiral down far colder than ever before. She didn't blame him for his reaction.
Prolonged contact would result in ice burns on your skin.
He nodded at her response, not able to argue with it. As he did, Midoriya watched the girl at his side, noting how quiet she was. It was strange, considering how she often filled the silence with any conversation she could. She didn't like the silence.
"You know, I think I'm more surprised that you even tried," he admitted. Kagome glanced at him with confusion afloat in ocean eyes. He smiled to assure her he wasn't trying to tease her about it. "It's just you never seemed to care about becoming a hero." She never once mentioned the possibility to anyone, as far as he knew. It felt like he was finding out all sorts of things about her.
After not seeing her once during the break after their last year in middle school, they crossed paths at the Entrance Exam to UA, much to his surprise. She unveiled a Quirk that seemed to manifest abruptly, and he was left curious. She, understandably, was just as curious about his own newfound Quirk.
"That's because I don't," she responded in a flat tone. Despite her words, he got the sinking suspicion it was a lie, considering all the effort she'd put forward in the Entrance Exam for the high school they'd gotten into. Midoriya looked at her, noting the ice that had seeped into her usually welcoming stare.
Her reasons for striving so hard to achieve a spot at UA, the top-ranking school for heroes-in-training in Japan, were far from what others might have, but that didn't phase her. Kagome glanced down at her palm. A fire sparked again, but, just as before, it had no impact on her skin. Despite the heat centered in her palm, her skin was like ice. Ire sparked from within her chest.
Truth is, she didn't care about being a hero to modern society. She'd already become one in the past, and it was a legacy that followed her among the demon society in modern day. No, becoming a hero in an era where people like him could be so renowned as a decent person was far from her interest.
Maybe it was childish of her to fight so hard just to show him up, but she couldn't deny how euphoric the satisfaction would be.
She closed her hand into a fist, letting it fall back to her side as she lifted her gaze back to the road ahead of them. She could feel the green-haired boy at her side observing her, and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
She could remember the day they met. A friendship had formed between them almost instantly, but, considering how similar they'd been at the time that wasn't so surprising.
They'd been the only two in class who had yet to develop a Quirk.
"I'm Izuku!"
The blue-eyed girl lifted her gaze from the book with colorful pictures to meet a shade of forest green. Above all else, he radiated a bright, friendly air. "Kagome…" she replied after a few seconds.
It had been announced in class that she was joining mid-season due to a recent adoption, and she hadn't gone out of her way to really talk to anyone. She'd been so quiet and looked lonely, so he decided to approach her first.
When the conversation swapped to Quirks, overhearing the teachers talking about someone of the ones of their classmates, she grew silent again.
"What's your Quirk?" he asked, but she shook her head.
"I don't have one," she responded. Her blunt response was surprising. She didn't say anything else as the silence between them started, absentmindedly wondering if he'd leave. To her own surprise, he didn't.
"That's okay," he told her. "Neither do I."
And here they were now. Both heading to the top hero school with Quirks that'd developed over the end of their last year in middle school and the break that followed.
She knew how her own had formed- alongside the awakening of her spiritual energy when she got pulled into the past, but Midoriya…
She glanced at him before looking away.
He said it was a surprise to him, as well, but she didn't exactly buy into his claims. After all, she could tell that he was lying when he told her. However, considering she also had to lie about the origin of her own, she wasn't offended by his dishonesty.
It was only fair, she supposed.

Walking into their class, Kagome wasn't surprised to see a familiar face. Bakugo, another classmate from middle school always made it clear what he desired to do and what school he fully planned to get in. He had a powerful Quirk, so she wasn't surprised to see he'd achieved his goal.
She felt the weight of a stare on her, and, when she searched it out, her eyes met a pair of blue and gray, and she found herself staring into eyes she'd last seen ten years ago.
Natsuo laughed as their older brother fell to the ground, having hit himself in the face with the ball they'd been playing with. She went to his side to make sure he was okay, the older boy sitting up and rubbing his forehead where the ball at hit.
"Toya-nii!" She took his hand when he reached for her, identical blue meeting her own. He smiled at her, tugging her down and into his lap as he crossed his legs. "Are you okay?" she asked, and he nodded.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine!" he responded.
As she sat there, she slowly became aware of the weight of a gaze fixed on her. As she searched for it, she glanced up. It didn't take her long to find it, her eyes meeting the duo-colored pair of her twin brother.
He watched her, gripping onto the railing he stood against until their father walked past. As he did, he took him by the arm and tugged him along.
She frowned and looked down, unable to help but feel sad. Since her Quirk hadn't formed, their father had pushed her away from her twin brother. She wasn't allowed around him.
The memory burned as it came, unwelcome and inviting itself into her mind. With it came feelings she didn't want to acknowledge.
To her surprise, it seemed he remembered her, as well.
Auroua-chan: I'm really excited for this story!
Kagome's got a really low body temperature, yet her flames don't phase her. Her flames are blue at the base, but are primarily white.
There were some glimpses of her childhood with Deku and Toya, too! It goes to say that Toya was very close to Kagome. (And it's something that will reappear with him as Dabi- or, he will try to, at least.)
Pairing is undecided, but Shoto will have a sister-complex. (+Dabi too.)
Anyway, that's it now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bye for now~
