Halloween Costume Crisis
Halloween, 2016
"I look ridiculous," Teddy whined as he stared at himself in the mirror.
"You look adorable!" James Sirius Potter teased.
"I think it might be a bit…much?" Victoire Weasley asked delicately.
"Much? No, Aunt Hermione's perfume is 'a bit much'. That costume is too much," James tried to convey.
This year for Halloween, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was having an All Hallow's Eve Costume Ball where students could dress up in costumes, dance and eat lots of sugar. Victoire Weasley had convinced her boyfriend Teddy to dress up in a costume for the ball. Teddy had trusted George Weasley to select a costume for him, which was the worst decision Teddy could have made. George had this brilliant idea that Teddy should dress up like a Red Cap. The turquoise-haired teen was wearing a red gnome hat, a fake crooked nose, a blue t-shirt, brown pants, clip-on pointy ears, and gray boots.
Teddy shook his head. There was no way he could show his face to the rest of the school dressed as the least frightening dark creature in the book. "Absolutely not!" He pulled off the fake nose and ears, then threw the red gnome hat on the floor. "I need to find something else. Maybe something with a full mask so people can't tell it's me."
"Well, you have to do that soon! The ball is tonight!" Victoire reminded him. She already had her costume on and ready. She was dressed as a swan princess. She wore an elegant white gown, and her arms were decorated with white feathers. She held her white and silver masquerade mask in her hands that was decorated with the same feathers. Her blonde hair was braided and in a tight bun on top of her head.
"Yeah, it wouldn't be a Halloween costume ball without a costume!" James stated the obvious, with an ear-to-ear grin. James was wearing a less fancy costume than Victoire. He was wearing a Muggle monster costume where it looked like parts of his face and neck had been stitched together. He wore simple black pants, a red shirt, and a white lab coat. He also wore a headband that made it look like he had a massive screw protruding his skull from one end to the other. Teddy wouldn't wear something that scary, but he thought James's costume still looked awesome.
"I need to think of something fast," Teddy thought out loud. He debated whether or not to raid the Room of Requirement for a costume to borrow.
Victoire shook her head. "Teddy, sweetheart."
Sweetheart? Great, time to feel like an idiot. Teddy muttered in his head. "Yeah, Vic?"
"You're a Metamorphmagus." She pointed out.
"So?"
"So, you are your mask! You are your costume! Just think of who or what you want to be." Victoire offered.
Teddy tilted his head in confusion. "I don't know. Isn't that overusing my powers? Also if there is a costume contest, wouldn't that be cheating?"
"It's not cheating. It's utilizing your resources." Victorie explained with a smile.
Teddy rolled his eyes. "Vic, your inner Ravenclaw is showing." He teased her. Though, she did have a point, he wouldn't let her have the 'you were right' moment.
Victoire giggled. "I wear it with pride, Teddy."
Teddy stared at himself in the mirror again. He debated on what costume he wanted to create using his special transfiguration powers. He glanced over at Victoire and examined her costume more closely. Then, he had an intriguing idea. "Vic, would you like to do a couple's costume?" He asked.
"You want to be the prince from Swan Lake?" Victoire asked, raising a dubious eyebrow.
"I was thinking more of a male version of the Black Swan," said Teddy.
Slowly, Teddy's arms began to transform into black-feathered bird wings. His outfit became a sleeveless black suit and black pants. Then, his pale face seemed to grow feathers that formed around his head and covered his turquoise hair. A large group of smaller silver feathers formed around his eyes. It was a remarkable replacement for a Halloween mask. "I don't think I'll do the beak though, that was more of my Mum's thing." Teddy playfully noted. He spun around the small space and flapped his winged arms. "How's this?"
"Creepy." James blurted. "But it looks really cool!"
Victoire smiled and put on her mask. "I like it. We just have to make sure you can still dance with the wings."
Teddy grinned. "Of course! Just don't rip out any of my feathers."
