Prologue
18 year old Paul clenched his fist as he could hear the shovels burying the last part of his family.
"You shouldn't have died this way," he cried to himself, wishing so badly he could've seen his brother's smile again.
The news of King Reginald's death broke all of the citizens of Veilstone Kingdom's hearts. He had unexpectedly gotten sick and he finally succumbed to death.
"Prince Paul," a voice interrupted his musings.
"What is it Sir Drew," Paul asked, as he always tried to envision what his best knight looked like.
"Rumors are spreading that Queen Johanna is planning an attack," he replied.
Paul clenched his hands and felt a surge of anger within him.
"That woman dares to attack while our kingdom has lost its ruler!" he exclaimed angrily," where'd you get this information?"
"Yes, your majesty!" Sir Drew affirmed," from Sir Gary and Sir Ash."
Paul processed the information.
"Get ready! For if she attacks we will be ready," he finally demanded.
He waited for Drew to reply but all he could hear was the sound of Drew's feet shuffling.
"What is wrong?" Paul barked, wishing he could see Drew's face.
"There have also been rumors that some of the peasants and some guards think it would be better to be ruled by the queen rather than a…" Drew hesitantly stated, then paused.
"Then a blind king. Am I right?" Paul asked, clenching his fists.
Drew's silence gave the answer to him.
"Tell this to the people! I will protect my kingdom blind or not! My brother had personally trained me for this day ever since the incident and if anyone questions my rules they will be punished severely!" Paul exclaimed as he grabbed his walking stick though he knew every inch of the kingdom.
"Yes sir!" Drew replied.
Paul listened as he heard Drew's footsteps fade away until he heard nothing but the slight breeze.
"I will be a great ruler even if I am blind!" he stated, tightly grasping his stick.
He would not let his disability define him or his reign.
"I swear it," he whispered, his voice filled with determination.
*************************************************************************************************************
Dawn stared at the mirror as she tenderly felt the scars on the side of her face.
"Nobody will love a girl with scars," she thought as her mind kept on going back to the day of the terrible incident.
Even though it had happened a long time ago she still couldn't get used to the scars. They had also opened her eyes on how people always glanced on outside beauty rather then inside.
She took one last glance before she was interrupted by one of her mother's best guards and her best friend Sir Kenneth.
"Dawn! Your mother has been captured by Prince Paul!" he exclaimed breathless, as he rushed in.
"What! How?" she asked as she stood up in shock.
"She had been on walk and hasn't been seen since besides a letter from the prince declaring he held your mother hostage!" Kenny explained.
"Did you bring the letter back with you?" Dawn asked.
"Yes, it actually was written to you!" he replied.
"Hand it to me!" Dawn demanded, her hand reaching for it.
Kenny walked over as he gave her the letter.
"Leave so that I may have some privacy," Dawn declared as she tightened her grip.
Kenny looked at her with surprised but then slightly bowed and left.
Dawn felt horrible for being snappy at him but she wanted to read this on her own for some strange reason.
To the princess of Twinleaf Kingdom.
The queen of Twinleaf Kingdom is being held hostage in my kingdom and in order to release her! You must bring me her greatest treasure and if there is anything suspicious you are planning. I will not hesitate to shed some blood.
Sincerely the Ruler of Veilstone Kingdom
Prince Paul
Dawn crunched the paper in anger as she threw it down.
"Mother's greatest treasure is her beauty!" she growled as she started pacing around," she doesn't care about her riches!"
Dawn's mind replayed all the time where her mother always told her that beauty mattered more on the outside so she could catch the eyes of someone rich but once the accident happened her mother seemed bitterly disappointed on how Dawn's face now held scars.
"But that prince doesn't know that!" she exclaimed after thinking for a few moments," I can trick him by bringing some useless trinket and tell him that it is Mother's greatest treasure!"
Her thoughts then turned to the prince. She had heard rumors that he had a cold, silent, and strict nature. Though she could agree with that as she remembered a memory about three years ago when she was 15. She had first met the blind boy when she had been invited to a ball. The first time she saw him was he had been training outside with a green head boy. Dawn hadn't known he was blind since he seemed like he was able to fight as well as any seeing knight. Then later that night during the ball. He had been standing in the shadows, just closing his eyes and his arms crossed as if he didn't have a care in the world. She had walked over to him but then he opened his eyes and looked with his night-like eyes at her making her stop in her tracks. She soon discovered he was blind because of his comment.
"Since I am blind doesn't mean I can't hear you," he scowled.
"I am sorry. I didn't know you were blind," she quickly apologized.
"Hmph!" he grunted, putting his hand against the wall while walking away.
"Plus he is blind!" Dawn muttered to herself as she pulled out of the flashback," so he won't know any difference.
