A/N The replacements in deathfics will either be from heritage railways or else diesels, because I've been getting my OCs from dieselizing railways.
Thomas was going past the Steamworks and saw the narrow-gauge engines gathered there.
Mr. Percival and Peter Sam's crew came out of the Steamworks sad.
Mr. Percival pulled out a handkerchief and wiping tears away said, "Peter' Sam's dead from being very ill."
Peter Sam's crew sniffed and sobbed into handkerchiefs, his driver saying, "P-Peter S-Sam, y-you w-were a-a R-Really U-Useful E-Engine". His engine friends cried their grief in various ways, comforted by their drivers. Percy came by and gave Thomas a buffer press.
Thomas gave a tearful speech about his little friend. His driver pressed a cloth to his eyes, and through wailing sobs and a great many sniffles, the tank engine said,
"W-We sh-shall m-miss P-Peter S-Sam a-and th-that's f-fine. I-It's ou-our r-right t-to cr-cry a-and gr-grieve ou-ou fr-friend wh-who's g-gone t-to Th-The B-Big R-Railway I-In th-the Sk-Sky. W-We m-must c-carry o-on a-and b-be R-Really U-Useful E-Engines. H-He w-was o-one.". His tears and wails came, not once stopping, until he could cry no more.
Those closest to Peter Sam wailed themselves to sleep that night and each had a vision of him, riding golden rails.
The Skarloey Railway was closed to allow the engines time to grieve and have a memorial service for Peter Sam. For Charity, grief meant constant, severe crying. The other emotional engines had times of wailing their broken hearts out. Thomas and Percy were allowed to attend the memorial, with Percy going so he could press Thomas's buffers in an engine hug. Thomas was an emotional wreck at the service, like the more emotional narrow-gauge engines, shedding a great many tears.
Eugene, a narrow-gauge diesel, took Peter Sam's place on the railway. He was enthusiastic, idealistic, expressive and impulsive. His personality made Peter Sam's friends his friends, as they met each other. Whenever they were missing Peter Sam, he was eager to support and inspire them, because he could imagine how they must feel. Life on Sodor took on a more normal flow and Peter Sam's friends got over most of their pain, but only when they got to The Big Railway In the Sky would that last pain go away.
A/N If I'm unsure of their fate when they get to the afterlife, I don't include the vision. Like if their personality makes me unsure if they'd believe in The Big Railway In the Sky. Peter Sam seems like someone who would believe, unlike some of the previous.
