Season 4 - Episode 14 - during 'Taking the Fall'
November 22, 2015
"Hey, uh, look … one thing," Andy looked up to Provenza, who'd been trying to kill him through his DNR paperwork. "... as tough as it is to think about... if I don't make it out of surgery, I need you to do something for me, okay?"
Provenza took a step back. "Like what?"
"I need you to … um … give something … tell Sharon … if I die …"
Provenza interrupted his stammering, "If you die, you want me to tell the Captain … that you loved her?"
"No."
Provenza's eyebrows shot up in shock.
"Well, sure," Andy chuckled, "... but she knows that already. No question … I just …"
"You've already exchanged the 'I love you's'?"
Andy smiled. "First date. Months ago."
"Hmmm…"
"I want you to go into my underwear drawer-"
"Ye gods! No!"
"Shut up. There's a ring, back right of the drawer … will you … give it to her? Tell her I've … that I've had it for a while … and yes, that I loved her more than I could ever show her?"
"Maybe Sykes should … or Rusty, um … Hobbs, Emily, good lord, Flynn, you've already bought a ring?! … hell, Patrice would give it to her …"
"Louie, come on … please just-"
There was a long silence while Andy's eyes pleaded.
"Okay, but here," he handed Andy the yellow notepad. "If you want to confess, write it all down. I'll see what I can do."
"What?! Are you kidding me?! Should I get an attorney, too?"
"You have just revoked your entire life. Write it all down … and hope … that I give it back to you when this is over."
"But you'll remember the ring?"
Provenza nodded. "Of course, Flynn. Start writing."
He left. Andy wrote.

When Provenza relieved him from his duties of watching the scumbag director interact with his children, who he'd all but abandoned, Andy stood and walked to his desk, continuing on into her office when he saw her close the rest of the blinds.
He knocked softly on the open door.
She looked over, smiled a little.
"Hi."
"Hi," she sat, looking over to the chair across from her for him to take, then looking back as he closed the door and took the seat.
"Rusty okay?"
She only nodded to the conference room Rusty was in with Emma.
"You okay?"
She only shrugged.
"What are you two doing for dinner tonight? Wanna try-"
"I have plans, thanks, though," she quickly responded, "I may end up breaking them, however. I'm so tired." She closed her eyes and leaned back.
"I get that."
"How are you?" Her eyes were still closed.
"I'm okay. You know, seeing deadbeat Dads … takes me back."
"You aren't … weren't … a deadbeat Dad, Andy."
"When I wasn't working, I was in a bar drinking, or at someone else's place, cheating on my wife … yeah, Cap, I was horrible Dad."
Her eyes were open, now. "No, you were a horrible husband."
"Same thing. I was cheating on my family. Missing time with them …"
"You're an alcoholic, an addict, Andy. It could have been so much worse. Look at you now."
He nodded sadly. "Alone. No kids."
"You will always have kids. Nicole calls you often."
"She's almost thirty."
"Still your little girl."
He smiled. "Speaking of little girls …"
She narrowed her eyes.
"Yours gave me a call a few days ago..."
"Oh did she?"
"Mmmmhmmm."
"And?"
"Well, it's none of my business, but …"
She hummed.
"Are you and Jack back together?"
Sharon nearly threw up.
"My Mom is dating someone and hasn't told me who he is …"
Andy was silent.
"Do you know who it is?"
"I … I didn't know, um … no, Emily, no idea. I didn't think she had time to date anyone, we're so busy."
"Just a bunch of dinners and/or drinks … I don't really want to be too nosey, and I don't want to get you into her personal business if you aren't already … I thought you'd know."
"No. I mean, she and I are friends, just go out to dinner sometimes … after work, most of the time with the team, getting drinks, but no … I don't know who she's dating. It's not my place-"
"I know," Emily seemed to deflate, "I just … I think it's getting serious and it unnerves me that she won't tell me. Like she knows that I wouldn't approve. Rusty doesn't know anything and if he did, I don't know if he'd tell me. I haven't won him over more than Mom has, yet. Was hoping it was you or Lieutenant Tao that she was dating, but it's not you … you'd tell me … and Tao's married, right? Oh god, not Provenza…
Andy laughed out loud, "Oh I can guarantee your Mom is not dating Provenza."
Emily didn't laugh. "Scared to death that it's my Dad. Provenza would be more acceptable than him, Andy."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"Would she and your Dad getting back together … be that horrible?"
"Yes."
He sighed and was quiet for a moment. "If I find out who it is, I'll tell you, kiddo, but I'm not investigating. She doesn't have to tell us anything … you, maybe, but-"
"I know, could you just maybe somehow … check to see … that it's not Dad? Just … anyone but him."
"I'll try."
"Okay, I'm going to give her a call now. I won't tell her I spoke with you unless you want me to."
"Nah, it's okay, unless you want to."
"No."
"Emily?"
"Hmmm?"
"She's okay. She's doing great."
Emily hummed. "Thanks."
"Andy …"
"Hmm?"
"I will never, no matter what happens on this Earth, get back together with my ex-husband. Ever."
He nodded. "Okay."
"I mean, in the past, he'd drop in once or twice a year, I let him stay ... sometimes we," she made a gesture, "you know, but I would never ... be with him in a relationship. Emily was ... she thinks I'm back together with him?"
"Yeah. She knows you're dating someone, just wanted to make sure that it's not him ... but you won't tell her ..."
"Oh, my girl," Sharon sighed and closed her eyes again.
"That's all she was wondering. I will tell her that you're not, and that's it."
She stared at him.
"Seriously, it's none of our … of my …"
"It is her business …"
"So this ... so ... is it serious, with this guy?"
She smiled a little to him. "Getting there, I think."
"Why haven't you told her?"
She shrugged, looking down.
"Well, none of my business, so …"
"He's …" she tried to stop smiling, "he's younger." She met his eyes. "Quite a bit younger, but not … I don't know, we're a good match, I think," she breathed in deeply, "I just, with Rusty and everything going on, we've barely had time to spend together and … he's busy … I just didn't feel the need to tell anyone yet, you know?"
"Yeah."
"I won't tell her that you asked, if you don't want, but I'll talk to her about … him."
"She's just worried."
She smiled. "When is she not?"
Season 4 - Episode 7 - during & after 'Targets of Opportunity'

Every time she met his eyes during the day, he said that he was sorry with them. She tried to send the message that all was fine, he should stop being worried. He obviously didn't get the message because he looked downright pathetic.
She tried to reassure him with a smile, a look, but he was just sad. Working still, of course, they had no time for anything because two officers were dead and they had to find the witness. Once found, they had to get him to talk.
No one had time for anything. She didn't even have time for Rusty, which she deeply disliked. He'd been a trooper, though, volunteering with the tip line crew. She was so proud.
Andy was nervous, worried, beside himself all day. Would she break up with him for this? No, surely not … she loved him. She said it. She wouldn't have said it if he'd fucked up beyond repair.
A little later in the day, after many signals of 'I'm sorry' sent to her, he sat defeated at his desk. She seemed to be okay, smiled at him, but she was a good actor, so … he needed her to say it. They'd all been highly focused on work, so he couldn't think too much about their relationship and how he could prove how sorry he was, but his mind drifted, often. She wouldn't be happy about that.
He opened his top drawer, looking for his good pen. It wasn't there, but there was a folded sheet of paper with an A on it. He opened it.
A -
This is called a note. It's what you leave someone when you want to tell them something important for when they find it.
Stop worrying about us and focus. I love you so very much. So much more than you know.
Talk to you tonight. At your place. I'm staying over.
S
p.s. I did not end up telling Taylor … no good time for it today.
Okay.
He could breathe.
He could focus.
He held the note in his hand and looked around the busy room. She met his eyes from across it. He put the tips of his fingers on his lips. She did the same, smiling and looking away. Focus.
He nodded and got to work.
He walked into his front entranceway, stretching his neck, shoulders, it had been a rough one. It was late, and she was on her way a little behind him.
He only had time to heat up some leftovers for them to scarf down before bed. He put together a little salad for them, too and set the table as best he could.
He didn't hear her car drive up, but jumped at the light knocking. He rushed to the door and swung it open quickly, receiving her in his arms immediately. She burrowed into her spot in his neck and hugged him close.
He turned them slowly and closed and locked the front door, standing still after, just holding her. His favorite thing. He smiled to himself after kissing her head. Every moment with her was his new favorite thing.
"I loved your note." He grinned.
She looked up to him and shot him an evil glare. "You better not be making a joke of this."
"I'm sorry."
"I was so worried, Andy. You have no idea." She let him go and walked away, smelling food. She needed food. Any food. He'd set the table. She loved him.
"I do know, and I'm sorry. It was 11:45 when I got the call, Sharon. We had JUST fallen asleep. You didn't even stir! I didn't have the heart to wake you. You were dead asleep."
"Okay, okay," he was upset, "But I woke up later though and thought you were ACTUALLY dead." She stared and ate, not waiting for him to join her.
"You hungry?"
"Shut up," she ate a huge bite. "Wake me, Andy. Every time-"
"Fuck that."
"Andy!"
"If you don't need to wake up, I'm not waking you up."
"Even if I tell you to?"
He sighed. He wanted to say 'no', but she was his boss … fuck it.
"No," he decided to go with his gut, probably stupidly. "You aren't Captain here. I will not wake up my girlfriend when I get called out."
She smiled.
"When you are needed, we'll call you. We didn't know it was officers at first … I was like a zombie getting ready, Sharon, had no sleep at all. I wasn't thinking."
"Obviously." Another huge bite. "You sure did remember to wear a red tie..."
He smiled. "Priorities, babe." He leaned down and kissed her. She wasn't smiling. "I'm sorry... I'll get me some post-its. I will never forget to leave a note." He promised, looking serious.
She hummed in disappointment but couldn't argue. "Leave a note. Always. I shouldn't even have to say it." She ordered.
"Yes, ma'am."
He finally sat next to her, very, very close next to her because he moved the chair over and took her hand. Then, they ate, having pretty much perfected eating like this.
"And I'll get some new pens … I've lost my favorite."
She stuck out her bottom lip in a pout, "Poor thing," she leaned over and kissed him quickly, though his mouth was full.
"This helps," he mumbled after he swallowed, then he squeezed her hand, burying his head in her neck, sucking, biting a little.
"You hungry?" She grinned.
He bit harder.
"You leave a mark and you will be dead."
He licked her neck. "That's not funny … and not true."
"Hmmm."
"You told Rusty you were coming here?"
"I sent him home, telling him I'd be very late getting in or not at all. He didn't ask questions."
Sarcastically, Andy responded, "Shocking."
"Andy …" she warned.
"He's selfish."
"He's a kid, he's focused on what he's focused on ... he volunteered for hours today, honey. He's trying to learn how to not be as self-centered. I am glad that he didn't need further explanation, though."
"When are you going to tell him?"
"He knows we're dating … just not sleeping together yet. I'm not ready to tell him that."
"Okay, and no Taylor?"
"Today wasn't the day."
He nodded.
"Even though today was terrible, I really enjoyed watching you threaten to break the scanner/printer thingy."
He chuckled.
"So mean …"
"He deserved it. You, by the way, were fucking amazing all day today, just sayin'."
She blushed a little and wrapped her arms around his neck, moving to sit on his lap.
"And beautiful …"
She kissed his cheek.
"And incredibly sexy …"
She kissed his lips.
He deepened the kiss until she pulled back.
"You're just horny."
"Your fault, Sharon."
"Hmmm," she kissed him again.
"You holding your gun to that bastard impersonator … fucking hot."
"Yeah, sure … you weren't thinking that then … you were worried."
"Of course I was worried, but you can handle your own."
"Hmmmm."
"I'm so sorry about this morning."
"It's okay, Andy, really," she kissed him and kept him there for quite a while. "Shower?" Her eyes twinkled to his.
"Oh, that would definitely help," he kissed her deeply and started walking them to his bathroom. "Plus, I have some ideas on how to apologize to ya."
She couldn't wait.
