But what if they sent someone far worse to just observe the planet a year before Nolan? and what if Mark wasn't the First Human/Viltrumite hybrid. 3. I Hate Cheaters

A/N Hey guys. here is Unbreakable chapter 3, and just so you guys know. I have some other projects going on so it could be a bit before the next update.

After meeting Anissa, the Viltrumite the previous night, Garrett only got a few hours' sleep before he had to get ready for the Guardians of the Globe's faux funeral, then he would have to go to the secret funeral with Mark and his family.

As Garrett was getting ready, he was relieved to see most of his injuries from the previous day had healed including his broken rib and missing teeth.

He suddenly got a phone call, so, he put his ear bud in before tapping it answering his phone saying, "Hello?"

Cecil's voice answered him saying, "Just a head's up kid, the tryouts have been moved to an hour after the funeral, make sure you're ready."

Garrett was going to reply but the line went dead. Garrett frowned as he removed his ear bud while thinking, "Well, goodbye to you too."

Garret finished putting on his funeral attire which sadly wasn't much, He had a long-sleeve black dress shirt that was tucked into a spare pair of his black work pants, and even though they were in poor taste now, he was wearing his Red Rush sneakers if only because they were the only usable pair of shoes he had at the moment.

Garrett grabbed his personal things before walking out of the hole in his apartment that was once his door.

As he made his way to the Graysons house, Garrett couldn't help but be grateful he lived in the world he did, if not for just the fact that since so many monsters and villains attacked construction work on building repair had been tripled thanks to government-controlled drones.

Garrett broke from his thoughts as he saw Marks house and landed somewhere safe before he met up with the family and they all drove to the funeral sight.

A few miles before they got there, Nolan hopped out of the car to change into his costume and make his grand entrance.

Debbie pulled her car into a reserved spot before they made their way into the many aisles of chairs to seat heroes and civilians alike.

As they walked Eve waved Garrett and Mark over where she was sitting in the middle. Debbie told them to go ahead while she went to sit in the VIP section since she was Omni-Mans wife, and he was giving the eulogy.

Garrett took a seat on Eves right while Mark sat next to Garrett, Garrett couldn't help but glance at Marks and Eves' attire.

Mark had on a nice black suit and tie with what seemed like an expensive black trench coat and black shiny dress shoes, while Eve was wearing a form fitting black dress that went to her knees while accentuating her curves, the dress had spaghetti straps, but she wore a small black blouse over it, and she wore black strapped heels.

Garret looked at his clothes and couldn't help a sigh that came out, sometimes Garrett wished he wasn't in the financial situation he was in, and the sad truth was he was in this position because all his own and mothers' savings, house and anything sellable was used to pay for his mother's outrageously expensive medical bills.

Eve heard Garrett looking at him saying, "You, ok?"

Garrett just gave her a sad smile not wanting to bother her saying, "it's nothing, just a messed-up day."

Eve nodded her head saying, "yeah, I know what you mean."

Their attention was suddenly brought to the sky as two military jets and Omni-Man flew above the funeral in formation.

Omni-Man broke off from the jets before he circled back and started to float down towards the podium to give the eulogy.

He adjusted the mike before speaking so all could hear him, "I've fought the unimaginable, In defense of this world. Gone toe to toe with ancient Gods, slayed Titans, and faced nightmares from the deep. But in the end, I knew I was never alone, The Immortal, War Woman, Darkwing, Aquarius, Red Rush, Martian Man, and Green Ghost, they were more than heroes they were Symbols of peace and protection. So, who will take their place? I will." Omni-Man paused for a second before he continued saying "And so many others like me, New heroes to step up and become new symbols to us inspired by those that came before them. There will be times when you will all feel fear, uncertainty, and trepidation. But in those times haver faith..." Omni-Man then floated upwards before shouting "And look to the sky!" before he blasted off easily breaking the sound barrier.

After that Garrett, Mark, Debbie, and surprisingly Eve since she told Garrett she had been given the address by Cecil, Went towards the secret burial site.

As they drove, it started to rain and by the time they arrived it was a downpour making Garrett sigh, resigning himself to getting wet.

But he was surprised when Eve waved her hand over a pencil she had found lying around before it changed into a functioning umbrella with her powers. She turned towards Garrett and handed him the umbrella.

Garrett took the offered transformed object with a grateful smile while saying, "That was really cool, and thanks."

Eve just smiled at him saying "No, Problem."

Before all four of them got out of the car and opened their umbrellas, and walked over to where Omni-Man was standing in front of 7 open graves with caskets of different sizes and designs.

Nolan had changed out of his costume and into a nice black suit and tie with a black trench coat and black dress shoes.

Garrett saw Cecil standing there with his right-hand man Donald holding an umbrella over him.

He also noticed there were other people there as well, He saw a group of Amazonian woman wearing varied versions of gold armor similar to War Womans, there was a group of fish people and what appeared to be the Hero Aquarius widow, There was an African American man who looked to be in his twenties staring at Darkwings grave with a blank look, a small African American family were crying and hugging one another by Green Ghosts grave, and Red Rush's widow was there as well.

Nolan, instead of the confident portrayal he had at the public funeral, here he had a sad and somber expression as he spoke about his former comrades.

Nolan looked at the small gathering saying, "The guardians, were not only heroes, but they were also my friends, comrades, people I could trust with my life. They also lived their lives in their own way. War Woman was from ancient culture and people trying to better the world, The Immortal was a man long past his time, Martian Man was exiled from his people, and Darkwing...well, Darkwing made his own kind of solitude. But we will never forget them and the many great things they accomplished."

Omni-Man lowered his head as the caskets began to be lowered into the ground. However, Red Rush's widow started crying hysterically and tried to run to the former speedster's casket before Donald stopped her. The woman fought against him as she screamed "Let me go! Don't you understand!" She quickly pulled away from Donald causing her to trip and fall into the mud.

As Donald tried to help her up, she cried out, "I can't see him! Josef is finally standing still! And I still can't see him!"

Debbie quickly went over to the grieving widow and tried to comfort her while Mark and Garrett stared at the sight in sadness.

Eve looked at the two saying, "You guy's, ok?"
Mark answered first saying, "This is all just so surreal. It'd be bad enough if my dad could be in one of those holes and my mom in the mud. The fact we're even here just shows no one is entirely Invincible."

Eve and Garrett couldn't help the small smiles they cracked at Mark's unintended pun before Garrett gave his opinion next saying, "This whole thing just brings up bad memories for me."

Eve unaware of Garrett's background asked "Why? What happened."

Mark looked at Garrett to see what he would say as he took a breath and said, "My mom died two years ago, and I've been on my own since. Seeing all these grieving people and death just hits a little close to home."

Eve was shocked to hear about his mother and that Garrett had been living own his own since he was sixteen before saying, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean-"

Garrett held up a hand stopping her saying, "It's fine. You didn't know plus like I said it was two years ago."

Eve just nodded but still felt bad for having to make Garrett remember such memories.

A little while later after the funeral ended, Garrett said he'd fly back to his place since he had to get ready for the tryouts.

Eve told him she was heading to the tryouts as well but had to stop by Teens Team base first. She asked him if he wanted to come but Garrett had to take his suit to Art to have it mended.

Garrett quickly flew to his home and grabbed his costume before quickly heading to Arts shop.

Once there, Art proved once again, he was a master tailor for a reason as he handed Garret his spare suits while taking his old one and saying, "Those new suits are made with a new non-tear material I just ordered. Let me know how they work out."

Garrett stashed his new suits in a bag saying, "thanks Art, and don't worry I'm gonna start paying you eventually for your work. I honestly don't like Omni-Man paying the bill every time."

Art smiled at the young man's humble attitude but waved him off saying, "Kid, trust me when I say, I'm not hurting for money. I only want to see you new heroes go out there and save the world."

Garrett just smiled before he looked at the time realizing he only had a few minutes to get to the pentagon where the GDA HQ was hidden.

He looked at Art saying, "can I change here really quick?"

Art smiled saying, "No-" but before he finished speaking Garrett quickly flew past him, changed into his suit, before flying outside and towards the GDA. Art meanwhile finished his sentence with a smile saying, "Problem." as he let out a small laugh.

Art then started working on a random outfit that might attract the next rookie hero.

Meanwhile, As Unbreakable flew towards the Tryouts, Atom Eve was just getting to Teen Teams base.

She landed inside before heading towards the showers and locker room to change while she looked for the others.

As Eve made into the lockers she called out "Rex? Kate? You ready to go? Robot is already there getting a list of heroes together."

As Eve used her powers to change into her Super-Suit, Kate suddenly came walking out of the shower wearing only a towel and a large blush across her face.

Kate was surprised to see Eve and suddenly said, "Eve! I... I thought...You were at...the funeral."

Eve raised an eyebrow at Kate since she seemed to lose breath between her sentences and said, "I was, it was pretty gloomy, Everything ok?"

Kate panicked saying, "It's just the hiccups." But Kate suddenly cried out as she leaned against the wall biting her lip.

Eve eyes widened before she glared at her supposed friend and marched into the showers angrily stating, "What the fuck is going on?"

Kate eyes widened before she shouted, "Eve, Wait!"

As soon as Eve walked in the shower, she almost wished she hadn't because there in the middle of the showers was Rex with two Kate clones naked, With Rex sloppily making out with one and his hand buried between her legs, while the other had her head in his crotch.

Eve felt uncontrollable rage as she shouted, "You piece of shit! I knew there was a reason you two didn't go to the funeral!"

Eve quickly marched out just wanting to leave the whole fucked up situation.

Rex shouted after her saying, "babe, wait!" Rex grabbed Eves arm with a towel around his waist saying, "It's not what it looks like!"

Eve yanked her arm free shouting, "Do I look fucking stupid! Just go to hell Rex, we're through!"

Kate seemed genuinely surprised as she said, "Eve, Rex told me you were dating Unbreakable now, he said you talked about it. Is that not true?"

Eve just got madder saying, "What?! Of course not! He hasn't even made one move on me!"

Kate then glared at Rex while he just tried to defend himself saying, "Oh bullshit! Don't give me that, you know it's true. You and him have a thing!"

Eve just got so mad she used her powers to launch Rex against the wall surprising him as he fell on his ass with a groan.

Eve shouted at her now Ex-Boyfriend saying, "I don't what we had Rex, but you made sure it was dead and gone." Eve floated in the air before shouting, "Just stay away from me!"

Eve then took off while Rex tried shouting after her saying, "This whole thing is nothing, I wasn't even with the real Kate!"

Eve was too far to hear him, but Kate heard him loud and clear and angrily said, "We're all the real Kate." Kate then went to get dressed before leaving Rex outside naked as she got ready.

Unbreakable made his way inside the training room for the tryouts just a few minutes before they started.

He was surprised to see Invincible there talking with Robot. He decided to say hi to his friend and walked over.

As he waited for a chance to speak he saw Mark's new costume design, He had on black pants the black color going up his sides, he had on blue boots with kneepads, his chest was blue on the sides while his chest had a large yellow bar in the center, his arms were blue but had yellow fingerless gloves, and his mask was yellow while it showed his lower face but covered the rest of his head like a boxers headgear including a pair of large lensed goggles.

Unbreakable saw a chance to talk saying, "Invincible, you plan on trying out?"

Invincible answered him saying, "No, Omni-Man said he wants to train me personally, said I can't afford to split my focus. Plus, my mom would kill me if I missed anymore school."

Garrett couldn't help agreeing with that last part, he was so behind in schoolwork from all the nonsense with the Flaxens, he had a bunch of make-up homework and tests he had to get done.

Invincible spoke again saying, "Anyway, you think I'm gonna miss this? Almost every known hero is here."

Garrett was going to say something else but saw Eve show up, he noticed she seemed very upset with an angry scowl on her face. Garrett, knowing she had been in a better mood earlier, excused himself from Mark and walked over to talk to her.

Once he was close, he said, "Eve, are you ok?"

Eve suddenly schooled her features seeing Garrett saying, "I'm fine. Just nervous for my tryout."

Garret however knew something was up just for the fact she gave him the classic, "I'm fine." excuse. Since his mother would use it constantly.

Garrett leaned close so only Eve could hear him saying, "Eve, you can talk to me. We've fought together and almost died together. Just tell me how I can help."

Eve started to tear up despite herself, the combination of Garrett's genuine concern for wellbeing and on top of what she just caught Rex doing was too much as she suddenly fell against Garrett's chest saying, "no, I'm not ok, Garrett."

Garrett looked around before he quickly ushered Eve outside the room so they could have some privacy.

Once they were alone Eve fell against his chest again and began crying saying, "Rex cheated on me!"

Garrett eyes widened in shock before his eyes hardened and gave Eve a small hug as she continued saying, "And with Duplikate, all three of her!"

Garretts expression didn't change he just got madder at Rex and just allowed Eve to vent.

Eve wiped her eyes after a few minutes and stepped away from Garrett with a grateful smile saying, "Thanks, Garrett."

Garrett returned the smile saying, "of, course."

Since Eve was a little calmer now, she said, "I really don't really blame Kate though, Granted I don't know if I can work with her still, but I guess Rex fed her some Bullshit that you and I were a thing."

Garrett nodded in understanding with a small blush saying, "Well, admittedly I will say your beautiful, but my friend William was like date, date, date, so that turned me off the whole idea." hahahahaha Garrett laughed showing he was joking around.

Eve couldn't help but laugh along with him, her mood feeling better instantly.

Eve decided to joke with Garrett back a bit saying, "I hope not entirely, I am single now, you know?"

Eves joke worked causing Garrett to blush heavily and stutter saying, "Wait? What? I was just? What are you?"

Eve just busted out laughing causing Garrett to frown with an embarrassed blush now, realizing he had been had.

The two were interrupted though with Robot showing up saying, "there you two are, Duplikate and Rexplode have just arrived, and we are ready to begin."

Unbreakable looked at Eve saying, "You ready?"

Eve smiled at Garrett a little fondly saying, "yeah, let's do this."

The three went inside where Robot stood in front of all the collected heroes from all over the world.

Once Robot saw everyone was listening, he began to speak saying, "Thank you all for coming here today. The Guardians of the Globe were more than a group of heroes. They were icons. Those of you who pass our trials will be considered among the elite... The best of the best."

Robot paused for a second to let his words sink in before he said, "Needless to say, not all of you will be up to the challenge. Those of you who are up to the challenge will succeed not just by the uniqueness of your abilities, but by the uniqueness of your tactics, your adaptability, the agility of your minds, And perhaps most importantly, the strength of your character and spirit. That is what truly makes a Hero."

Robot let his words sink in again before he got things started saying, "the tryouts will be a series of One-on-One match ups, first match will be Atom Eve vs Man-Hulk."

Eve made her way confidently towards the training arena while Garrett saw a huge hulking man as he was aptly named, walk down after her.

The two stood on opposite sides of the arena and just before Robot started the match, Man-Hulk thought he would show off by making his huge pecs dance in front of Eve.

After everything Eve just went through this morning, she was in no mood for bullshit. Not to mention her talk with Garrett had also given her a great amount of confidence. So, with an angry but determined scowl she heard Robot start the match before flying high in air and dove down to fire off a shot of energy at the hulking man making him trip forward surprised.

However, Eve suddenly used her powers to glide back towards him at a fast speed while forming a cocoon of energy around her arm.

Once in range she reeled her arm back and punched Man-Hulk straight in the face launching him several feet in the air before he slid across the floor on his already broken face completely passed out.

Mark who was standing next to Garrett and Rexplode winced at how Eve took out the big man so easily. Mark looked at Rex asking, "hey, what's up with her?"

Rex just had a nervous look while he meekly said, "No, Idea."

Garrett just gave Rex a sideways glare and just hoped he was lucky enough to get the cheating hero as an opponent.

As if Robot was reading his thoughts, the machine man announced," Next match will be, Rexsplode vs Unbreakable."

Rex just got excited saying, "All right! Finally get to fuck with that Edgelord prick." completely unaware that Garrett knew about what he did to Eve.

Garrett just glared at Rex not saying anything as he followed him to the arena.

Despite everything, Eve couldn't help moving to stand with Mark to watch the match.

Once the two were ready, Robot was getting ready to start the match. But just before he Did Unbreakable spoke so only Rex could hear him saying, "Rex, you and I haven't known each other long, but there is one important thing you should know about me." Robot started the match and before Rex could grab an explosive Garrett moved so fast, he was right in front of him.

Rex had wide eyes before Garrett said darkly, "I Hate Cheaters."

Everything clicked in Rex's head immediately and only had one thought, "Yep, I'm Fucked."

Next thing that happened Unbreakable punched Rex with a hard uppercut sending him upwards and knocking out several of his teeth.

Rex screamed as he went flying like a pinwheel in the air before Unbreakable Dashed into the air after him and cut rex off halfway by doing a flip and axe kicking Rex in the back sending him towards the ground.

As Rex went downwards Unbreakable quickly dashed around and just before the explosive hero hit the ground Unbreakable clotheslined him making Rex bounce and skip across the floor before colliding with the wall making a cloud of debris.

Mark watched the whole fight wincing before he looked at Eve saying, "Hey, is this, ok?"

Eve just crossed her arms saying, "What? Rex said he wanted to fight him, shouldn't have bit more off than he could chew."

Invincible raised an eyebrow at the statement thinking there must be more going on than his friends were telling him.

Unbreakable was approaching Rex to continue but Robot suddenly ended the match with a buzzer sound.

Garrett just glared at Rex again before walking back to the observation deck.

Rex picked himself up, holding his back and stomach while blood seeped from his head and mouth.

Rex limped his way back after Garrett silently since he was to hurt to make a smartass comment while the other matches started.

Most went by quickly since a lot of Candidates were rookies or small part time heroes.

There were, however, a couple of matches worth mentioning.

The first was a young girl Garrett recognized from Instagram from a few different posts called Monster Girl. She was short, but that was due to the fact she had the body of a 13 year old girl, she had long light brown hair in a high pony-tail, brown eyes, she was wearing a simple white t-shirt, brown shorts that went to her knee's, and white sneakers

He quickly figured out her namesake, when her match started, and a magical spell went over her body turning her into a hulking green monster with a pointed head, ears, and green eyes.

She easily beat her opponent in only a couple moves before Robot called it.

Garrett noticed Rex wasn't around thinking he must have gone to see the medic.

The next match was a woman he knew by the name of Shrinking Rae, she looked to be in her early twenties, her outfit was all green with yellow accents, she wore full length gloves that were black as well as black heeled boots, her suit covered her head but showed her face and allowed her long brown hair to flow behind her in a pony-tail, and she had on a pair of custom combat glasses.

She had fought a man who was an Ape hybrid Meta-human, she apparently had the ability to increase or shrink her size any way she saw fit as her name implied.

She took advantage of this by confusing her opponent before shrinking small enough to travel into his inner ear and mess with his equilibrium.

The Ape Man had no defense as he vomited and passed out.

The Woman popped out of his ear before quickly growing back to normal celebrating her win.

The final match worth noting surprised Garrett, Since the match had Black Samson as one of the opponents. He had heard the former guardian was forced off the team due to him losing his powers fighting a villain.

He also heard rumors that Samson had commissioned his current battle suit he wore to be made by someone so it could mimic his powers to a degree.

The match ended rather fast since Black Samson was a veteran hero, he flew around dodging an electricity woman's blasts before he dived down catching her off guard and punching her.

The girl went flying, her powers deactivating before she landed with a thud. The woman grunted in pain, but Black Samson was a good sport and gentlemen, offering his hand to his fallen opponent to help her up.

She smiled at him and took his offered hand before they walked back together to the observation deck with no bad blood at all.

After all the matches were done Robot had the heroes gather so he could announce who made it and who didn't.

Robot spoke up saying, "Thank you all for coming once again, but now allow me to introduce the new Guardians of the Globe."

Robot pulled up a holographic screen that displayed the passing candidates saying, "Black Samson, Shrinking Rae, Duplikate, Unbreakable, Monster Girl..."

The heroes Robot called walked forward including the surprised Unbreakable before Rexplode started laughing out loud holding his stomach interrupting Robot.

Garrett frowned at the cheating hero for ruining the moment, wishing he had stayed in the infirmary.

Rexplode began walking forward while pointing at Monster Girl and still laughing saying, "Seriously? This is adorable! You're letting this shrimp join? Isn't there a height requirement for this gig or something?"

Monster Girl frowned at Rex and walked up to him, her head coming a little above his waist. She glared at him saying, "I don't know, isn't there a dick size requirement?"

Rex stopped laughing and got pissed immediately saying angrily, "Excuse me?"

Monster Girl feigned surprise saying, "What? After seeing you get your ass kicked by Unbreakable over there." Monster Girl pointed at said hero making him wave awkwardly before she said, "And how you've been strutting around here, it's clear you're compensating for..." Monster Girl glanced at his crotch sadly saying, "Something."

Unbreakable covered his mouth while saying, "Damn!" before he started laughing along with all the other heroes gathered.

Rex just got even more mad as the little girl humiliated him in front of almost every known hero.

Rexplode didn't hesitate after that as he charge his powers in his arm grabbing a quarter from a dispenser at his waist as he turned it into a bomb.

He started approaching Monster Girl Threateningly saying, "It's about time someone taught you some motherfucking mann- WHAT THE FUCK!"

Rex's threat changed mid-sentence due to Monster Girl changing her arm into her monster arm and punching Rex across the face with a hard left hook.

Rex went flying, breaking through the observation deck's glass as he screamed in pain and terror.

Rex landed on the ground with a thud as he rolled a couple times.

As Rex struggled to stand, Monster Girl jumped down to the arena with Rex in a super-hero landing.

Rex glared at the girl with his costumes mask torn to shreds, but his look changed into a nervous one as she slowly stood up, her transformed arm slowly spreading over the rest of her body as she Ominously said, "Guess you missed my tryout."

Rex just glared at the Girl again before grabbing some quarters and charging them while Monster Girl fully transformed saying with a smirk and a gruff but rumbling voice, "Still think I'm adorable?"

Rex just threw the bombs he had but Monster Girl simply jumped over them before landing and punching Rex across the face again, this time with a right hook.

Rex went tumbling across the floor before hitting the wall with a thud and a cry of pain.

He stood up quickly though, before he moved his mouth a little and spit out three more of his already missing teeth.

Rex growled before shouting at the Transformed girl saying, "You fucking bitch!"

Rex turned his missing teeth into bombs and threw them at Monster Girl as she tried charging him.

The bombs, however, just bounced of her monster skin like pebbles making Monster Girl Laugh and saying, "Oh, now, that's adorable."

Rex's eyes widened before Monster Girl suddenly grabbed his head by the face and slammed him into the floor denting it.

Monster Girl climbed on top of him before repeatedly punching him hard in the head not caring where her blows landed.

The heroes watching didn't move to help Rex since they all knew he brought his situation on himself.

Robot didn't even seem to care as he dryly stated, "Please, stop. This is hardly constructive." but the whole training arena just echoed with Rex's yells of pain and Monster Girls blows landing.

Invincible couldn't help but grimace at the sight of Rex being beaten a second time in one day before looking to Eve saying, "Is this really, ok? Shouldn't we stop this?"

Eve once again crossed her arms and shrugged her shoulders simply saying, "He asked for it."

Invincible definitely knew something was up now and he was going to talk with his friend when he got a chance.

Invincible unable to watch the fight any longer flew down and got between the two saying, "That's enough."

Monster Girl growled at Invincible and shouted, "Get lost Boy Scout!" before backhanding him hard.

Mark flew back a bit but didn't feel anything. He frowned before flying towards Monster Girl fast with his fist reeled back shouting, "I said, That's enough!"

Invincible then punched Monster Girl hard sending her flying off Rex and into a nearby wall where she landed on the floor before her powers quickly deactivated.

One ignorant hero who saw Monster Girls human form shouted out, "Invincible just hit a little girl!"

Mark suddenly looked worried at the implications the hero who shouted was saying.

But luckily his friend came to the rescue as Unbreakable shouted out, "Shut the fuck up! who ever said that!"

Garrett stood in front of the gathered heroes saying, "Monster Girl is a Hero." Garrett emphasizes the word hero before saying, "She entered this life, knowing full well of the risks and consequence's that come with it. Getting hurt is part of the job, Invincible was showing Monster Girl the respect she deserves as a hero by stopping her when she was going too far and by not holding back. So, whoever said that comment can just walk out of here because you don't know the meaning of being a hero at all."

Garrett stood back in his former spot as all the heroes had looks of shame or understanding as Invincible, Monster Girl and Rexplode entered.

After hearing Garrett, Monster girl looked at Rex realizing she may have gone a bit far saying, "Sorry about the dick joke, I'm sure it's awesome. It's just when people mention the kid thing, I just go grr monster mode. We cool?"

Monster Girl held her fist out for Rex to bump. Rex just groaned a second saying, "Gonna shit blood." before he smiled at Monster Girl saying, "No, yeah we're cool." he bumped her fist saying, "You punch really hard."

Monster Girl Joked with Rex saying, "Well, I knew you could take it from your earlier beating."

Rex just sarcastically laughed while subtly giving Garrett the middle finger.

Robot watched the twos exchange with a glance before walking to Rex and placing a hand on his shoulder saying, "Don't feel discouraged Rexplode, not all heroes can match up to others."

Rex suddenly felt a sharp pain in his shoulder where Robot had his hand making him shout and throw Robots arm off him saying, "Ow! Fuck off Robot! I don't need sympathy from a goddamn microwave!"

Robot just replied, "I'm sorry did I strike a nerve? I forget how emotional humans can be."

Rex just walked away as Robot made his way back to in front of the crowd while no one noticed a small vial of red liquid slide into his wrist.

Robot spoke so the others could hear and said, "As I was saying...The last new Guardian to join shall be Atom Eve."

Eve knowing Kate was on the team, and despite knowing what happened with Rex wasn't entirely Kates fault. Just couldn't bear being around her since all she saw was the sight of them in the showers every time she looked at either of them.

Eve walked to Robot saying, "Sorry, Robot. But no."

Robot surprised said, "I understand your trepidation for such a large role but-"

Eve shook her head saying, "No, I can't be on the same team as Duplikate."

Robot confused asked, "Is there any way I can change your mind?"

Eve just looked upset saying, "No, I just can't work with her anymore."

Duplikate seemed a little sad to hear that, but she understood as Eve walked away and Robot looked at the cloner asking, "Duplikate, what happened?"

Duplikate even though she wasn't entirely innocent herself just pointed at Rex angrily with a glare saying, "Ask him."

Suddenly Rex felt very small as almost every woman hero in the room started giving him the stink eye.

Robot spoke to the crowd again before Rex could receive his third beatdown for the day saying, "That concludes today's tryouts, I thank all those who came and wish you the best of luck in your future hero work."

The crowd either gave disappointed grunts or grateful goodbyes before just the new Guardians and Invincible were left.

Garrett and Mark started to head out to go after Eve but Robot stopped Garrett saying, "Unbreakable, wait." Garrett stopped as Mark continued onwards. Robot approached Garrett saying, "I would like to discuss some things with the new team so we can start working as soon as possible."

Unbreakable wanted to check on Eve considering what she had gone through that day but knew his new position as a Guardian was slightly more important right now.

Unbreakable nodded at Robot saying, "Right, let's go." Garrett just hoped Mark didn't saying stupid like he tended to do when he got nervous

Robot nodded back as the two plus the rest of the new Guardians made their way to another training room to discuss their new team.

xxLine Breakxx

Luckily Mark had been able to catch up to Eve and the two were currently flying together towards Teen Teams base.

Mark looked at Eve saying, "Hey, is everything ok? You seemed upset back there."

Eve sighed before explaining the situation to Mark causing him to reply with, "oh...ooooh."

He coughed into his hand uncomfortably before saying, "I didn't want to say it while you two were dating but what an Asshole."

Eve had a sad look as if remembering something before saying, "He wasn't always."

Eve suddenly smiled and laughed as a thought came to her mind causing Mark to look at her asking, "What's funny?"

Eve answered, "it's nothing. It's just when Garrett and Rex first officially met, he had no problem calling Rex an Asshole to his face."

Mark couldn't help but chuckle at hearing that and say, "yeah, he's always been like that ever since we met. Doesn't take shit from anyone."

Eve curious asked, "How long have you known him?"

Mark looked up to think a moment saying, "Uh, about four years? We met in freshman year in school. I had some trouble with an assignment during class. He just walked over and told me what I was doing wrong then helped me get it down before solving the assignment himself immediately. Dude is ridiculously smart."

Eve couldn't help the hurt to her pride as all times she saw his name above hers during midterms came up saying, "yeah, tell me about it."

Mark spoke again saying, "He's not just smart though as you noticed, guy can handle himself well too. Even before he had powers."

Eve again curiously asked, "He got into fights? How does he have such a good rep in school then?"

Mark shook his head saying, "No, he never fights at school unless he must, like self-defense for him or another. He would often get into fights in his neighborhood when guys would try and mug him for his pay."

Eve eyes widened as she stopped flying and said, "He gets mugged on a regular basis!?"

Mark flew next to her and held hands up placatingly saying, "No, well, not anymore. Ever since he got his powers a lot of thugs in his neighborhood have steered clear."

Eve got a little mad at Mark shouting, "That's not the point! Where does he live that's so dangerous?"

Mark started to realize he may have said more than he should have. Garrett said he had a habit of doing that.

Mark tried to salvage what he could saying, "Uh, I don't think it's my place to-"

Eve cut him off saying, "Mark. After everything I've been through today, I'm not in very good mood and now, I just found out a close friend of mine has been living a shit life. Now, you either answer me or you're going to see me in an even worse mood."

Mark gulped as he realized he didn't have any options and replied, "He lives' in Hell's Kitchen."

Eve eyes widened again shouting, "He lives in New York's most dangerous neighborhood!"

Eve was blown away by all this info. Garrett had always seemed kind and generous, always thinking about others before himself. It never crossed her mind that he might be in such a situation. Sure, they had told her his mother died two years ago, but surely, she would have left him something to at least live on.

Eve, determined to learn more about her friend, flew off again to Teen Teams base to pack her things then she had to go see Robot.

Mark, surprised by her speed, said, "hey, wait a minute. Don't tell Garrett I told you anything! He will never let me live it down!" before following her.

xxLine Breakxx

Back at GDA HQ Robot and the others were gathered in a different training room as Robot handed them all sheets of paper.

Garrett checked his phone noticing he had a few hours before he had to meet Anissa for training. He almost wanted to sigh since he had to call off work to meet the Viltrumite woman and just hoped he had enough cash to pay his rent this month.

Robot spoke up then then saying, "The sheets I handed out are a detailed schedule, first, breakfast at six am, then team combat exercises for four hours, followed by two hours of personal training, then we break for lunch..."

As Robot drawled on Garrett realized he might be late to his meet up if he didn't speed the machine man along. Plus, He honestly didn't want to see what would happen if he was late.

Garrett spoke up saying, "Hey Robot, sorry to interrupt man, but I have work later on today, can we speed this up?"

Robot looked at Garret saying, "Unbreakable, what do you mean?"

Garrett looked at Robot like he was stupid ironic as that may be saying, "No offence, Robot, but Humans have other things to worry about than hero work, I for one, have rent and bills to pay."

Robot kept his stare saying, "Unbreakable, you do realize you are now a Guardian of the Globe; therefore, you are employed by the G.D.A with your own personal bank account and pay."

Garrett eyes widened and could only say "what?"

Robot made a humming sound before saying, "I will send you the details and your new bank info. I will also speak to Cecil about properly informing newcomers about benefits and requirements for future positions."

Robot switched gears saying, "back to the-"

Black Samson suddenly interrupted, saying, "Look, Robot, I'm sure you've had a lot of experience wrangling teenagers. But I was an original Guardian from day one, and no offence we need a leader we can trust not a bunch of ones and zeros."

Garrett felt the respect he had for the former guardian drop significantly at how he spoke to his machine friend and couldn't help speaking up saying, "That's super offensive, asshole. And I don't give a shit about who you were because right now you're standing here being a dick to your new teammates when you should just be grateful to be even standing here again."

Duplikate and Shrinking Rae covered their mouths at how Unbreakable both humiliated and disrespected Black samson at once while Monster Girl just shouted, "Damn! Someone grab some Neosporin, because someone just got burned!"

Black Samson glared at Unbreakable and was about to get close, but Garrett stopped him with a hard look saying, "Take one step towards me, I will consider that a threat and put you through the wall."

Black Samson growled before saying, "You little shit! who do you think you ar-" but he was cut off because as Unbreakable promised Black samson had stepped forward and Garrett immediately punched him dead center in the chest denting his suit and sending him through the wall as Unbreakable said he would.

Robot quickly ran to the fallen hero to check on him, seeing he had just passed out.

Robot went towards Unbreakable saying, "That wasn't necessary, Unbreakable. I've dealt with worse."

Unbreakable just replied, "One, I warned him if he came near me that would happen, so that can be classified as self-defense. Two, I stand up for my friends, and three, I couldn't stand how he was standing here throwing his old status in our faces living in the past, when times have changed. Respect is earned not given."

Despite how intense things got most of the team couldn't help but agree somewhat.

Robot called for some people to grab Black Samson and as they carted him away Monster Girl walked up to Robot saying, "Hey Robot, about this schedule."

Robot made what sounded like a sigh for a machine and said, "I'm doing my best to accommodate-"

Monster Girl cut him saying, "No, no, it's not that. I can't do training for six hours a day."

Robot replied with, "may I ask why?"

Monster Girl rubbed her shoulder uncomfortably saying, "it's to do with my powers. I can transform due to a curse but every time I change, I get younger, I may not look like it, but I'm 25 years old. I used to call myself Monster Woman, but you can see how that got confusing."

The new team were shocked to say the least to hear this news, sure they knew of her hero status, but the condition of her abilities has always been unknown.

Duplikate looked at the girl in a new light saying, "Wow, Now, I understand why you don't appear in public often."

Monster Girl frowned saying, "Tell me about it. Try having a love life in this body. Anyone interested is either going through puberty or on some fucked up list."

Robot unknown to everyone there, knew exactly how Monster Girl felt saying, "I understand what's it like. For the world to look at you and see one thing, never knowing the truth of what's inside."

Monster Girl scoffed lightly saying, "How can you understand? You're a robot."

Robot didn't comment but he replied with instead, "I will take your powers and comments into account and make up a new schedule."

Shrinking Rae spoke up then saying, "Well, since Black Samson is Ko'ed right now, and we don't have a set schedule... I'm gonna go work out." She left the room after that followed by Duplikate while the cloner said, "Me too."

Unbreakable realizing, he had time before his meet up with Anissa began to follow the two since he wanted to check out what type of training equipment the G.D.A had for heroes.

He caught up to the two female heroes saying, "hey, can I come with?"

They looked skeptical before Kate asked, "Why?"

Unbreakable confused by the question just replied awkwardly, "To... Work out?"

Both blinked a couple times before Shrinking Rae said, "Oh."

Unbreakable now curious asked, "what did you think I was going for?"

Shrinking Rae suddenly got embarrassed saying, "Well... You Know... Guys in gyms... pretty girls."

Garrett still confused said, "Not following you."

Kate started laughing saying, "Oh my god. your too nice, Garrett, she and I thought you were gonna ogle us."

Unbreakable just sighed annoyingly saying, "of, course not."

The two heroes just apologized before leading him to the gym.

In the gym, Unbreakable noticed there was a lot of weight training equipment, there were a few cardio machines, and special areas for certain heroes' powers.

Since his current work out was ineffective to push his powers now, he went over to the bench press to look at the weights they had.

As he was browsing the girls started working out on their own machines. Sadly, after browsing a couple minutes the largest weight Unbreakable could find was a 500-pound weight disc.

He sighed as he twirled the heavy weight in his hands like a frisbee as if it weighed nothing before saying, "Nope."

He dropped the heavy object, making it hit the ground while also forming cracks. Garrett noticed a vending machine full of water and energy drinks and walked over to it.

He placed a hand under the machine before lifting it above his head easily, he moved his arm up and down a couple times before nodding saying, "This might work."

He surprised the girls as he suddenly vanished, he was flying so fast around the building while grabbing more machines he only seemed to be a red and black blur.

Garrett came back with three more machines before grabbing a long bar bell.

The girls had completely stopped their work out awed by Garretts strength and speed as he constructed his own makeshift work out equipment.

Garrett placed the machines so two were together on each side of the bar before stabbing the bar bell through all four.

He dead-lifted his make-shift weights testing them, and he noticed they weren't exactly heavy enough to at least give him a good work out if anything.

He looked at Duplikate and asked, "hey, Kate, can you make a few clones to sit on these machines for me.
Kate walked over saying, "Sure, why?"

Garrett replied, "I need some more weight added and before you get mad, I'm not saying your heavy, I just need more than one of you on each machine."

Kate understanding asked, "How many for each?"

Garrett answered saying, "two should do it."

Kate nodded and made eight clones to sit on the machines as Garrett put his make-shift weights in the Bench press

when they were in position Garrett laid down on the bench before saying, "Rae, will you spot me?"

Rae was stunned by what was happening and just said, "Sure." before standing at the head of the bench.

Garrett quickly lifted the bar after that and began lifting the machines plus the Kate clones with little effort.

Garrett surmised it was enough weight to give him a good work out now but not enough to push powers much. Still, he kept at it though if not for the sake of himself being a gym rat.

The Kate's and Kate prime had surprised looks as Unbreakable lifted the clones up and down with ease.

As Garrett lifted, he spoke saying, "Thanks for the help, but I think I need to talk to someone about getting heavier weights in here."

The girls were stunned to hear that all the weight Garrett was lifting was basically nothing to him before they got a surprise visit from Donald, Cecil's right-hand man.

Donald approached the three saying, "ah, there you are. Cecil wanted me to see how the tryouts went. I can see they went well looking at the roster Robot picked." As Donald noted the members in front of him on a tablet.

Garrett placed the bar back in place before sitting up and speaking to Donald saying, "Do you think you can talk to Cecil about getting me some better equipment to train with. None of the machines here can train my powers properly."

Donald replied, "Interesting. I'll investigate it for you. Can you explain the problem?"

Garrett nodded saying, "I've learned that the more I push my powers limits the stronger I become, like with my strength and flight control."

Donald made sure to remember that to inform Cecil before saying, "Very well. If you or other Guardians have any business to attend to today, you may. Report back here tomorrow at 6 am."

Garrett didn't like that saying, "Um, I have school tomorrow."

Donald waved him off saying, "We'll send an excuse for your absence and collect any work you miss."

Garrett just frowned at the thought of more homework saying sarcastically, "great, thanks."

Donald not hearing the sarcasm said, "Your welcome. Good first day everyone." Donald then left to take care of some other duties.

Unbreakable checked his phone seeing he had to leave to meet Anissa and looked at his new teammates saying, "thanks again for the help, I gotta get to my job like I said earlier. See you guys tomorrow."

Garrett left the gym while Duplikate and Shrinking Rae looked at each other before Rae said, "You seriously fucked Rex over that?"

Rae pointed in the direction Garrett left while Kate replied with a tone of disgust, "Don't remind me, Besides I think Eve has dibs on him anyway."

Rae looked at Kate curiously saying, "what makes you say that?"

Kate had a knowing smile saying, "Just a feeling."

The two went back to working out while gossiping about their new teammate and the pink heroine.

Garrett made sure he wasn't being followed before he flew in the direction of his and Anissa's meeting place.

He chose to remain in costume since if anything happened during his training, he could blame it on a villain or something similar.

He made it to the location with a couple minutes to spare, so he touched down and got a good look around since it had almost been pitch black last time he was here.

He was surprised to see he wasn't anywhere near New York, In fact, he wasn't even in the U.S.A. noticing a lot of tall green trees, exotic bird calls, and a couple tall mountains in the distance. Due to his mother tutoring him in geography he was able to surmise he was somewhere in South America realizing his fight with Anissa had been more intense than he thought.

Garrett looked at his phone and just as the time turned 4 PM Anissa came crashing down in front of him making a small crater as she stood with her hips cocked sexily and a hand on said hips saying, "Good, You're here."

Garrett put his phone away before replying, "And good to see your punctual."

Anissa looked at Garretts costume asking, "Why are you wearing such ridiculous clothes?"

Garrett thought about what to say before replying, "Well, here on Earth. We have super powered beings that protect us. They're similar to uh... do you have any type of law keepers on Viltrum?" Garrett suddenly asked to help with his explanation.

Anissa answered carefully saying, "We don't have law keepers per say, we gather as a society and judge the criminal as a whole before sentencing. However, we haven't needed to do such for the past 5000 years."

Garrett was surprised by this news and couldn't help but ask, "wait. five thousand years? sorry for the question but, How old are you?"

Anissa was confused that he apologized but still answered saying, "I'm a little over a thousand years old, though I'm considered to be young compared to other Viltrumites."

Garrett again surprised asked, "How long do Viltrumites live?"

Anissa answered him without hesitation saying, "The oldest living Viltrumite is over five thousand years old, but even then our ancestors had lived far longer than that."

Garrett gulped before he asked his next question worried about the answer, "How long will I live?"

Anissa replied, "Like I told you, your DNA is 99.9% Viltrumite, meaning your almost full blooded. Viltrumites stop aging the older we get so, you can basically live thousands of years."

Garrett was blown away by this info, if what Anissa said was true than she was implying that as long he got strong enough he was basically immortal to an extent.

He would have to think of the implications of that later as he went back to their earlier talk saying, "Anyway, they're basically law keepers that protect people and the planet from a variety of enemies and disasters."

Anissa pointed at his costume saying, "And you all dress up in skintight pajamas?"

Garrett, getting annoyed, said frustrated, "No! First of all, these suits are bulletproof, flameproof, and some are even armored. Second, we wear these 'pajamas' so our enemies can't find out who we are and hurt our loved ones."

Anissa had a confused face saying, "Loved one's? You mean your offspring?"

Garrett surprised by the cold question said, "What? No. You know. People you care about?"

Anissa looked to understand a bit saying, "Oh. You mean caring about another's safety."

Garrett just replied, "yeah, I thought that was obvious."

Anissa crossed her arms and shrugged her head saying, "I was taught caring about another made you weak and vulnerable. So, Viltrumites are known for looking after themselves more than others especially with what I told you about our numbers."

Garrett understood her reasoning somewhat but didn't like her cold view, so he said, "Well, luckily you're not on Viltrum now, you're on Earth so if you need anything just let me know because here you don't have to be alone."

Anissa felt something unknown rise within her as she felt her cheeks warm up at Garretts words.

She quickly turned away from him to hide her face as he looked at her curiously. She placed her hands on her cheeks feeling the warmth with wide eyes. Anissa quickly thought to herself, "What...What the hell is happening? Why are my cheeks warm? Was it because Conquest's son said those words? No way! How could measly words affect me like that!"

Anissa suddenly slapped her cheeks to snap her out of her thoughts before turning back towards Garrett saying, "Ok, enough talking, time for training."

Garrett stretched his arms saying, "Right."

Anissa who needed to know where he was at strength wise asked, "alright, tell me your current weight load you can lift and how fast you can fly at this point."

Garrett thought about it, and he currently could lift four fully loaded train cars without effort so if his math was right... "I can lift about 630 tons."

Anissa's eyes widened at how much he could lift before asking, "When did you say your powers came in?"

Garrett replied, "I never got a chance to tell you, but they came in a little over a week ago."

Anissa again was stunned, yes, when a Viltrumite trained their powers, they got stronger. But not to such a fast degree as Garrett implied.

Filing this important info for later in her mind she asked him, "Impressive, now, what's your flight speed?"

Garrett knew he couldn't break the sound barrier yet so he surmised he could fly half of Mach 1 or a little more saying, "560 miles per hour."

Anissa hummed saying, "We'll have to work on that first, then we'll work on your combat skills, and your weight training is fine, so we'll leave that alone."

Anissa started floating upwards saying, "Follow me."

Garrett floated after her before they both were high above the clouds away from prying eyes.

Anissa looked at Garrett saying, "Now, Viltrumites fly faster by constantly flying and increasing our speed as we go."

Gerrett nodded saying, "Yeah, I been pushing a train back and forth on a track to increase mine."

Anissa shook her head saying, "While that seems like a good idea it wouldn't really increase your speed much, it actually does the opposite. If you want more speed, you need to constantly fly with no resistance. In fact, most Viltrumites fly into space for days at a time to increase their flight speed."

Garrett surprised asked, "We can fly in space?"

Anissa nodded saying, "yes, are bodies can endure the vacuum of space."

Garrett confused asked, "What about breathing?"

Anissa smirked saying, "That's funny you say that we don't actually."

Garret just replied, "What?"

Anissa nodded as she said, "Yep, we can hold our breath for long periods of time by drawing on the conserved oxygen in our lungs."

Garrett interested asked, "What is the max amount you could fly before needing air?"

Anissa placed a hand on her chin thinking before she answered with, "Well, I think the longest a Viltrumite has held their breath in space would probably be about two weeks give or take a few days."

Garrett surprised shouted, "Seriously?"

Anissa just nodded while saying, "I myself, flew here from where I was in about 4 days."

Garrett couldn't help but say, "cool." before saying, "Well, I can't leave the planet to train my flying so any other Idea's?"

Anissa smirked before saying, "How about a race?"

Garrett curious said, "A race?"

Anissa nodded and said, "yes, a race around the world."

Garrett intrigued said, "Ok, sounds interesting. Any rules or stipulations?"

Anissa smirked saying, "If I win, you'll run errands for me when I need something for a week."

Garrett frowned at the thought of being her errand boy before saying, "And what if I win?"

Anissa smirked again before flying close to Garrett putting her lips close to his ear saying sensually, "How about a nice wet kiss?"

Garrett quickly flew back with a blush saying, "Whoa, um thanks but um not now. How about if I win you have to tell me more about Viltrum and yourself."

Anissa had a slight frown at the rebuttal but didn't let it bother her as she said, "Fine, Get ready."

The two floated next to each other before Anissa said, "First one back to this exact spot wins, you must make a full circle around the world to win."

Garrett nodded saying, "Got it."

Anissa looked forward determined before counting down saying, "3...2...1...GO!"

They each took off like bullets, but Anissa was already ahead of Garrett and beginning to break the sound barrier reaching at least Mach 1.

Garrett cursed saying, "Shit!" before upping his speed as much as he could. He flew and flew but Anissa was getting farther away and just before she was out of ear shot, he heard her call out, "You gotta do better than that if want to even come close to even a quarter of Conquests speed!" before she broke the sound barrier again taking off.

Garrett getting mad and motivated at the mention of his father shouted after her saying, "I'll show you!" before he increased his speed trying to catch up.

Garrett saw Anissa was barely a speck in front of him and he noticed it was getting colder meaning they were almost at the North Pole.

He grit his teeth in effort but no matter how hard he pushed his speed he couldn't get any faster. He saw Anissa break the sound barrier again and then she was gone.

Garrett, getting frustrated, shouted out, "Damn it, damn it, damn it! Come on!" and then before Garrett knew what happened his extra push of effort was rewarded as he suddenly broke the sound barrier for the first time.

Garrett heard a loud sonic boom behind him as his speed increased suddenly allowing him to see Anissa once again, but she was still a speck from his position.

Garrett could smell sea Air now, realizing they were on their way to the south pole. He tried to increase his speed since the race was about half over.

However, it seemed his luck had run out because despite his efforts he still couldn't catch up to Anissa, her form remaining a speck the remainder of the race before they touched down back where they started.

Anissa was standing there on the ground with her arms crossed and a smirk not even looking out of breath.

Garrett meanwhile immediately collapsed to hands and knees and started trying to get his breathing under control, His body under stress from pushing himself so hard.

Anissa just let Garrett rest while saying, "Good, you were able to increase your speed to break the sound barrier, but you still have a long way to go."

Garrett's reply was just deep breaths as he stood up. Once he could talk, he looked at her saying, "That was nuts. How are you so fast?"

Anissa smiled saying, "Believe it or not I was hardly trying. I could have been here in a few minutes."

Garrett just said, "damn. You weren't kidding when you said I had a long way to go."

Anissa seeing Garrett was rested said, "Now, that we worked on your speed now it's time for your combat and durability." Anissa floated in the air saying, "One reason we're focusing on flying first is because Viltrumites don't need to pivot or move our hips when we fight, since we can fly, we can create our own momentum making our hits stronger."

Garrett ready for what was next floated up to match her and said, "Ok, good to know. what are we gonna do for that?"

Anissa's answer was to simply suddenly punch him in the face sending him flying as she said, "I'm gonna hit you really, really hard."

She dashed after him but before she could hit him again, he countered by thrusting his legs up hitting her stomach sending her in the air as he shouted, "Ok! I guess we started!"

He flew after her blood flying from his nose since it was broken. But he was shocked she had disappeared.

Garrett looked around trying to find her, but he made the foolish mistake so many people made and didn't look up before it was too late as he suddenly felt Anissa's feet slam into him driving him downwards from above.

Before they hit the ground Garrett grabbed the Viltrumites ankles and quickly spun them both around before tossing her away.

Anissa quickly corrected herself before dashing back at Garrett rapidly with her fist cocked.

As soon as she was in range Garrett quickly redirected Anissa's fist with a wrist block surprising her, before he spun in a quick circle using her momentum and then elbowed the back of her head.

Anissa was sent flipping in the air a couple times before she righted herself. Anissa ran her hand behind her head before looking and seeing a little blood.

She couldn't help but smirk as her bloodlust came out and she licked the blood of her hand before thinking, "I think I'm gonna like staying here a while." before she dashed at Garrett again even more excited to fight.

After the two fought for hours, the result was once again Garrett getting his ass kicked and him lying in a crater with his body broken.

He had his eye swollen again with blood all over his face, his arm and leg were definitely broken, he had two broken ribs and one cracked one, again he was missing teeth, not to mention the uncountable number of cuts and bruises all over his body.

Garrett was grateful he had worn his costume because he could explain his injuries and why his mask was completely gone with his suit showing a huge tear showing off his chest.

Garrett noted to himself he would need to talk to Art about whoever sold him the so-called non-tear material.

Anissa herself was crouched next to him with her hands cupping her chin as she looked at him with a smirk saying, "You put up a better fight this time, but you still need to get a handle on combat while flying."

Garrett just spat up some blood before weakly growling out, "Fuck... you..."

Anissa kept her smirk before flirtingly saying, "I would let you, but you're a little to hurt right now, rain check?"

Garrett would have rolled his eyes if he could as he said, "Shut...up..."

Anissa rolled her own eyes saying, "oh, stop being a baby. We know you heal quickly. If I'm Honest you heal quicker than usual."

Garrett thought about that, and he remembered he rarely ever got sick, in fact if he did get sick, he would be almost better the next day and he never felt the same way again.

Garrett then thought to himself, "Something is weird and it's not just my powers." He looked at Anissa saying, "How long do you think it will take till I can fly back home?"

Anissa looked over his body and couldn't but admire his physique before saying, "I'd say you'd be good enough to fly in about three to six hours, but you won't be fully healed till tomorrow."

Garrett just coughed up more blood before saying, "Shit. I might have to miss work again. I got tonight off, but I had to work the afternoon shift."

Anissa confused asked, "What do you mean work?"

Garrett, noticing, he could talk easier answered her saying, "On Earth, we have duties we fulfil to earn currency to live and survive on. I work at a place that serves food to the hungry public."

Anissa confused said, "So, people on earth do menial tasks just to survive?"

Garrett unable to think of a better description said, "basically."
Anissa frowned saying, "Why would you do something you hate or find annoying if you could just take what you wanted?"

Garrett sighed saying, "because even though some people hate what they do for a living they endure it, so, they can provide a home, food, and protection for their loved ones."

Anissa frowned at hearing the unfamiliar concept again but after considering what Garrett said she asked, "So, if you had mass amounts of the world's currency, you wouldn't have any problems?"

Garrett unsure if he should answer tentatively said, "yeah... I guess in in a sense. But money doesn't solve everything."

Anissa hummed at the information but didn't bring it up again. The sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Garrett spoke saying, "What would you like me to bring you tomorrow?"

Anissa confused asked, "What?"

Garrett replied, "I lost the race, so what would you like to bring you."

Anissa remembering their deal said, "Oh. Some food so I don't have go hunting every day, some furs or some type of bedding so I don't have to sleep on the ground..."

As Anissa began making a decently long list, Garret suddenly realized that despite being very strict and tough. Anissa was still a woman and she appreciated certain luxuries.

After making small talk and going over what she wanted him to bring her tomorrow, a few hours had passed before they knew it and Garrett was well enough to fly home.

Garrett floated up before looking at his trainer saying, "Thanks for today, Anissa, I learned a lot. I'll bring what you asked for tomorrow, same time same place. Have a good night."

Garrett took off, taking advantage of his newly acquired speed and breaking the sound barrier.

Anissa once again felt her cheeks warm up as Garrett genuinely thanked her before she slapped herself again thinking, "Stop it! I feel nothing!"

She was broken from her thoughts when she heard a familiar voice speak to her saying, "What are you still doing here?"

Anissa looked up and saw her fellow Viltrumite Nolan. She glared at him saying, "I'm doing my job."

Nolan floated to her level saying, "You were just supposed assess Conquest's son and nothing more."

Anissa smirked at her senior saying, "Really? Then how come I was able to get him to agree to help us?"

Nolans eyes widened before he moved so fast Anissa couldn't even blink before his hand was around her throat.

Nolan glared at her with murderous eyes growling out, "What did you say to him?"

Anissa kept her smirk despite knowing Nolan could rip her head off before she could even move.

She confidently said, "I told him what he needs to hear. He knows about our numbers and that we are coming to Earth to repopulate."

Nolan knowing that wasn't everything said, "What did you promise him? I know he wouldn't cave in just for a sob story."

Anissa replied without fear, "I said I would help him kill Conquest."

Nolans tightened his grip on her throat making her choke slightly as he said furiously, "You had no right to promise him that! Every single one of numbers counts right now, Anissa."

Anissa scoffed despite Nolans grip saying, "Please, Conquest is a bastard. What is one life for our whole species Nolan?"

Nolan despite himself knew she had a point before he released her saying, "You sure he won't be a problem later?"

Anissa just gave him a confident smile saying, "He knows nothing of the invasion or our full intentions. He is blinded by his anger for Conquest."

Nolan knowing some of Anissa's more aggressive tendencies spoke up saying, "Speaking of which, just so you are aware, Conquest raped his mother to give birth to him, I may have said seducing him could help us, but I wouldn't recommend your aggressive approach that your known for."

Anissa frowned at the mention of her habit to take what she wanted while saying flatly, "Noted."

Nolan glanced at her one last time as he floated in the air saying, "Get some new clothes. You stick out too much here." Then Nolan was gone while Anissa looked at her Viltrum clothing with a curious gaze.

Garret made it to his home unhindered; he landed in his usual alley noticing his cuts, his arm, and leg were almost healed, but his ribs needed more time along with his other Injuries.

He went into his building and walked to his apartment, he entered the hole that was his door and wall before blocking it without bothering to check behind him.

Once he saw it was secure, he turned around and surprised once again to find someone sitting on his bed in his apartment.

This time however, it was someone he knew. Atom Eve was sitting on his bed wearing her usual outfit of a pink spaghetti top shirt and a jean jacket, blue capri jeans, with grey heeled shoes.

Eve stood up saying, "Sorry to barge in like this but your door was missing, and I wanted to talk to you." Since it was dark Eve was unable to see Garrett's injuries from where she was.

Garrett who was still shocked to see Eve was just randomly in his apartment asked, "Um, what did you want to talk about? And how did you find my apartment?"

Eve suddenly got a little nervous saying, "Well, um, I had robot find it for me."

Garrett a little thrown off said, "Ok, and?"

Eve collected her thoughts before saying, "I just got really concerned when I found out what your home life was like."

Garrett sighed saying, "Mark couldn't keep his mouth shut, huh?"

Eve smiled saying, "In his defense I really didn't give him a choice."

Garrett looked at Eve saying, "I appreciate the concern but I'm fine, I've been on my own for a while now, plus my powers have helped a lot recently too."

Eve frowned before looking around his home, His whole apartment looked like it would fall apart at any moment, the wood for the floors and walls were a deep brown color looking like they were about to start rotting, the windows were either filthy or cracked, and there was rust on almost every metal surface.

Eve looked back at Garrett saying, "I understand that but why live here? Surely your mom left you something?"

Garrett remained quiet while Eve realized how insensitive her comment sounded and was about to apologize before Garrett said, "My mom and I had plenty of money and even a house at one point. She had won some competitions in her past earning a decent amount of prize money."

Eve, curious, just listened to her friend and didn't want to interrupt.

Garrett took a shuttering breath as he remembered his mother saying, "But then she got sick when I turned 15, her health just got worse and worse before she died in her hospital bed a year later."

Eve gasped hearing this before Garrett said, "After that, her medical bills were outrageous, not to mention her insurance wouldn't cover anything because her illness was unknown. I had to sell our house, our possessions, and empty both our bank accounts to just get everything settled. And the rest is history."

Garrett was suddenly surprised when Eve rushed him and hugged him tight with tears in her eyes.

Garrett let out a small grunt as Eve squeezed his hurt ribs as he awkwardly returned the hug while Eve said, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. That's horrible."

Garrett smiled saying, "it's ok, I'm Unbreakable remember? I can take it."

Eve couldn't help but laugh before she looked at his face and saw his half-healed cuts and his torn costume before she said, "What happened to you? Are you hurt?"

Garrett quickly told his excuse saying, "I got into a fight with a villain after training, guy was a little tougher than I bargained for."

Eve had him sit on the bed saying, "Here hold on." She went looking through his cabinet and found a bowl and a rag. She went to the sink and turned it on, but Garrett tried to warn her saying, "Don't get water from the kitchen sink the pipes are-"

But he was cut off as Eve shouted, "OH MY GOD, THAT'S DISGUSTING!" as Eve witnessed brown slime come out of his kitchen sink.

Garrett gave an apologetic smile saying, "I normally buy bottled water and get what I need from the bathroom, sorry should have warned you."

Eve just got mad saying, "ok, That's it!" Eve without hesitation she waved her arm across the room and her powers flared as the entire apartment began to change, the walls and floor looking pristine, the furniture becoming more useable and fresher, and the metal pipes were all fixed.

When it was done Garretts apartment was the same but everything in it looked brand new.

Garrett looked wide eyed shouting, "Holy Shit! What the? How did you? It looks like a new apartment!?"

Eve couldn't help the smile on her face as she turned on the kitchen sink again, this time clean running water came out as she filled the bowl she had earlier.

She went over to Garrett and sat next to him and got her rag wet.

Garrett still amazed at what Eve did looked at her asking, "How did you do this?"

Eve began wiping Garretts wounds as she answered saying, "Its got to do with Atoms."

Garrett replied, "Like, protons and electrons?"

"Eve smiled at how smart Garrett was before she said, "yes and no. I can see the Atoms in the air and control them to a molecular level. Everything is made of atoms and with a simple rearrangement of said atoms." Eve paused as she showed Garrett the rag before she changed it into a a beautiful handwoven quilt and back again. She smiled saying, "I can turn any object into something else."

Garrett simply said, "That's so awesome and broken at the same time."

Eve raised an eyebrow as she wiped his face again saying, "Broken?"

Garrett laughed a little saying, "Sorry, gamer talk. It means your abilities are so strong you can pretty much beat anyone."

Eve chuckled saying, "I didn't expect you to be a gamer."

Garrett blushed a little saying, "Hey, just because I focus on my schoolwork doesn't mean I don't like to have fun."

They shared a laugh as Eve finished up putting a couple band aids on Garrett's cuts while Garrett remembered all the homework he had to catch up on and sighed.

Eve hearing him asked, "What's wrong?"

Garrett waved her off saying, "Nothing, I just got a lot of schoolwork to catch up on thanks to the Flaxens and my new Guardian position."

Eve seeing an opportunity said, "Hey, I can help you out."

Garrett asked, "really? What about you?"

Eve waved him off this time saying, "I've already got enough credits to graduate, I'd rather make sure you're alright so you can focus on your hero work."

Garrett, seeing a chance to tease his friend said, "Really? You sure you want to help the guy who beats your scores every time?

Eve smirked saying, "What can I say, I like a challenge."

Garrett smiled saying, "Ok, how about his weekend we have a study date."

Eve caught Garrett's word choice teasing him back saying, "Oh, so you're making it a date?"

Garrett blushed embarrassed saying, "What no? It's a turn of-"

He stopped as he saw Eve's big smile realizing she had got him again as he said, "You know, you're the only person I've met whose been able to one up me in banter."

Eve just cocked her hip to side saying, "Then I better keep it up."

The two laughed again Before he checked the time seeing it was very late and he needed some sleep. He looked at Eve saying, "Thanks for coming by Eve, it' was nice to a have friend over for once."

Eve getting the Idea walked over and gave him a hug saying, "of course, any time." she made her way to leave but Garrett said, "Um, I hate to ask but can you change the apartment back?"

Eve confused asked, "Why? Isn't this better?"

Garrett was just uncomfortable as he replied, "My landlord won't be happy that the whole place was renovated without his permission, not to mention he would most likely kick me out and take this place anyway."

Eve couldn't believe what she was hearing, to think Garrett was living with a corrupt landlord in a basically condemned apartment and dodging muggers daily. How could no one know how bad the city had gotten, not even the G.D.A. and If Garrett lived like this who knows how many others were suffering in the same position.

Eve silently swore to get Garrett out of there and figure out how to stop the bigger problems in the world.

Eve waved her arm again turning the Apartment back to its original depressing state.

Garrett smiled sadly at the crappy home saying, "Thanks."

Eve smiled back at him and said, "I'll come by this weekend."

Garrett said, "No, you don't have to. we can go-"

Eve cut him off saying, "I want to. Don't worry about." Eve smiled one last time before opening his window and leaving since his door and wall were blocked.

Garrett sighed and fell back on his bed as all the mental and physical exhaustion caught up with him. He looked at his apartment again and remembered how nice it looked when Eve fixed it.

Before Garrett fell asleep, he had one last thought, "I need to move." before drifting off.

The next day after his meeting with the Guardians they had settled on a training schedule that worked with the whole team.

Black Samson was a little bitter at Unbreakable knocking him out on their first day but knew better to make something of it, since Unbreakable had proven he may have been a Guardian at one point, but times have changed.

Since Garrett had to miss school for his meeting, he was currently at home with his schoolbooks spread-out among his coffee table as he worked on his mountain of homework.

Eve said she would help sure, but He honestly never liked burdening people with his problems. So, he was at least getting some of his work done before Eve came over that weekend.

He blushed as he thought about his red headed friend, He noticed the two had become closer over the last couple of weeks not to mention the fiasco with Rexplode.

He was honestly considering maybe asking the girl out but thought better of it since she just left what he guessed was a long-term relationship.

He was broken from his thoughts when his phone rang. He looked at the I.D and it said 'scam likely' So he ignored the call.

A second later the phone rang again showing scam likely and again Garrett ignored it.

The phone rang a third time irritating Garrett before he ignored the call and put his phone on silent.

He sighed frustrated before getting back to work. However, he was suddenly shocked when Cecil suddenly teleported directly in front of him on the other side of the coffee table.

Garrett out of instinct kicked his coffee table at Cecil forcing him to teleport out the way.

Garrett was wide eyed as the table went soaring through his window and onto the street below his schoolwork all over his apartment floor.

Garrett suddenly shouted out, "FUCK! Goddamn it, Cecil! I just got my fucking door fixed and now I gotta deal with this shit! Why are you fucking randomly teleporting into my house!"

Cecil had a blank look saying, "First of all, good reflexes, second I'll have someone come by and fix everything so calm down, and three I'm here because when the world needs you, YOU ANSWER YOUR GODDAMN PHONE!" Cecil finished with his own rant with a shout.

Garrett realizing the scam numbers were Cecil said, "Ok, Got it. But change your caller I.D. bots they're confusing."

Cecil ignored him saying, "Look, we got a problem at Mount Rushmore. Some super villain called Doc Seismic is tearing the place up. Atom Eve is on route I need you guys to take him down." Cecil tossed Garrett a comm for his ear while Garrett confused asked, "Eve, is gonna be there?"

Cecil smirked saying, "did that sweeten the deal?"

Garrett ignored him this time and asked, "What about the other guardians?"

Cecil scoffed saying, "honestly they're a bit of shit show and you have the skill set I need for this job."

Garrett replied, "What about Invincible?"

Cecil replied, "I honestly went to him first, but Omni-Man was adamant about Mark not getting involved with G.D.A and wants to train him himself."

Garrett understanding the situation said, "Ok, I got it. When do I leave?"

Cecil said, "Now."

Garrett shocked said, "Now?"

Cecil just nodded saying, "Know where to go?"

Garrett looked at Cecil as if he was stupid saying, "South Dakota, Duh. Who doesn't know that?"

Cecil smirked saying, "You'd be surprised." before he teleported away.

Garrett quickly changed into his costume and placed his comm in his ear before flying out his window.

Since Anissa had helped him increase his speed, he was able to get to South Dakota rather quick before he met up with Eve and the two headed for Doc Seismic's rampage.

While the two made their way to the monument. Cecil spoke to them through their comms saying, "Hey, you two. Like I told Unbreakable, I wouldn't be asking for your guys help but my hands are tied. Invincible is Unavailable, the new Guardians are a shit show for the moment, and Omni-Man is taking care of a kaiju half-way across the planet. So, here we are. Target is Doc Seismic. He has a P.H.D is seismology, so the doctor thing that's legit. Problem is, he went and built himself a pair of earthquake gloves."

Unbreakable curious asked, "While all that is interesting, what's he want?"

Cecil replied, "Even he doesn't seem to know. Apparently, every time he uses those gloves of his, he gives himself a concussion, so put massive brain damage on top of everything else."

Eve and Unbreakable looked at each other before Eve said, "So, your basic mad scientist."

Cecil signed off saying one last thing, "have fun, kids. and try to remember it's a national moment down there."

Unbreakable rolled his eyes before he and Eve dived down towards Mount Rushmore.

Meanwhile below, tourists and locals alike were running around panicking as a balding old man was running around making the ground explode and creating magma near the Mountain of presidents.

Doc Seismic stopped his rampage to monologue his victims. The Mad Doctor wore your typical mad scientist get up including a lab coat. The only difference being he had bright red bracelets on his wrists that glowed with power.

He began his rant shouting, "You've come to pray at this obscene monument? These men were oppressors, Racists, Slave owners! I shall give you all a new god to worship! All Hail Doc Seismic ahahahahaha!" The doctor cackled evilly as he slammed his wrists together activating his invention as the ground below him exploded causing shockwaves to rise up the monument and separate Lincolns head from the structure.

In a bit of irony, the president's head was heading straight for a cowing interracial family and all they could do was hold each other.

Doc Seismic just laughed evilly as he said, "The great emancipator shall emancipate you! Ahahahaha."

But luckily the giant head never landed as Unbreakable was floating above them holding the giant head with ease. He quickly flew upwards and returned it to its proper place as Eve sealed it.

Unbreakable called down to the mad Doctor saying, "hey, man. You sure you're a villain? Cause you got some pretty progressive views there."

Doc Seismic growled and shouted, "I am no villain! I am a revolutionary! a God that will bring true peace and equality among the very earth itself!"

Unbreakable had a dry look and said, "And you lost me. Also, are you wearing earthquake bracelets? I thought they were supposed to be gloves?"

Doc Seismic got mad and shouted, "Just die!" before he slammed his weapons together sending a shockwave of earth towards Unbreakable and Eve.

Unbreakable tried to tank the blast but was thrown back. Luckily Eve created a cushioned wall of energy to catch him.

He righted himself and said, "Thanks."

Eve just focused on the doctor saying, "Anytime. We need to take out his bracelets."

Unbreakable couldn't help but chuckle and say, "That is so lame, I know why Cecil told us they were gloves."

Eve just let out a battle cry and dove for the Doctor Unbreakable right on her heels. Eve fired multiple bolts of energy at Seismic, but he kept dodging the attacks by slamming his bracelets and hopping around like a crazy rabbit while destroying the landscape.

Unbreakable seeing despite massive brain damage the doctor was still incredibly intelligent. He looked around for something he could use to give them an edge and sure enough.

Garrett smirked as he saw something and said, "That'll work." He quickly took off saying "Give a sec."

Eve nodded, trusting him as she corned the doctor in some trees, but he kept hopping around.

Doc Seismic just cackled before saying, "You two should be on my side, your friend seems to understand a little. We could tear down the old power structure, build a new order! I mean look at the costume they got you in. Talk about pandering to gender roles."

Eve looked at her outfit offended saying, "I designed my own costume, and I thought your doctorate was in seismology?"

Doc Seismic just had a proud smirk saying, "Undergrad in sociology and in women studies also have a minor in African dance. But enough Politics!"

The Doctor quickly slammed his weapons thrusting his arms forward obliterating a huge tree that would have sent him flying like a homerun ball courtesy of Unbreakable.

The two heroes were blown back by the attack as Unbreakable shouted, "Dude, seriously! You keep making me flip flop with everything you say! Villain or not a Villain. Pick one and stick with it!"

Eve recovered and shouted, "Can you stop bantering with the mad scientist, please!"

Unbreakable realizing his mistake said, "My bad."

Doc Seismic roared in effort as he slammed his wrists together again creating the largest quake yet as the entire mountain began to split releasing the molten rock below.

The interracial family from before was trying to escape but were sadly caught in the blast zone. Eve quickly created a forcefield around them which was connected by a long stream coming from her hand hundreds of yards away.

Doc Seismic saw this and made Eve fall and break her concentration by creating a quake under her.

Eve shouted at her fellow hero saying, "Unbreakable!"

Garrett, understanding, flew like a rocket towards the falling family but saw they fell into canyon.

Panicking he said, "Oh, No." He quickly increased his speed turning his body into a drill while breaking the sound barrier.

He slammed into the Earth and drilled his way right under the falling family, with a quick dash he grabbed all three family members before they could come close to the magma below. He carried them till they were off in a safe zone.

The family hugged each other while crying and saying thank you to Unbreakable. He just gave a small salute and went back to help Eve.

What Unbreakable didn't know that as he was dropping off the family, the Mad Doctor was about to attack him.

Eve had quickly stopped him by throwing bolts of energy at his bracelets.

As Unbreakable approached he saw Seismics bracelets begin to go off erratically sending him flying unwillingly.

Soon all the sudden quakes caused the ground under Doc Seismic to fall apart sending him plummeting towards hot magma.

Unbreakable flew downwards fast latching on to the Doctors arm while saying, "You may be crazy but I'm not letting you fall!"

Doc Seismic simply sighed and said, "Damn it, I should have worked a little more on the Jet Paaaaaaaaa-" His words turned into a scream as his bracelets malfunctioned again making Garrett lose his grip.

The hero tried to grab the doctor again, but the scientist cackled insanely before slamming his broken weapons together sending him straight into the lava while making said lava rise after the two heroes.

Unbreakable quickly shifted his flight path and bolted upwards. Eve backed him up using her powers to form a wall of energy she pushed back against the magma.

Garrett grabbed onto Eve's waist when he got close enough and started flying faster while she created a forcefield around them both.

The two broke onto the surface with a small spurt of lava following them before everything seemed to calm down.

As the two watched the earth below them settle Eve released her forcefield saying, "Whoa, that guy is toast."

Unbreakable looked at Eve dryly under his mask saying, "How about you leave the one-liners to me."

Eve glared playfully saying, "Shut up." before they laughed together. Eve looked at Garrett with a smile and blush realizing at that moment what she wanted to do.

She was about to lean in and grab his mask to show him before suddenly Garretts phone alarm went off.

Garrett separated from Eve and looked at his alarm. His eyes widened as he saw after studying and fighting all day he now had to meet with Anissa for his daily training.

He looked at Eve saying, "hey, I gotta go, that's work. I 'll see you for our study sesh. Thanks for everything, Eve."

Garrett quickly flew off while Eve had a disappointed smile on her face as she said, "Your welcome."

Garrett's lesson with Anissa went the same as before with him being able to increase his speed better along with Anissa breaking his bones and body again to increase his healing and combat experience only for him to heal hours later depending on his injuries. There was also the addition of him bringing her all the stuff she had requested. He did notice she hadn't asked him for any earth clothing but figured she had her own plan for that.

He did learn from her this time as they talked, that she was apparently one of her people's strongest members, in fact she was among the top ten.

Garrett expressed his gratitude to her for being the one to train him since she was so powerful along with promising he won't fail to reach his goal.

Again, he got curious as her behavior changed again as she shouted at him while seeming to be flustered before flying off till they would meet up again.

What he didn't know was that despite herself, Anissa was starting to be aware that she liked it when Garrett showed her genuine gratitude or concern. These feelings were so foreign to her all she could do was get angry and flustered before taking it out on the person causing said feelings.

So, now, Garrett was walking towards his apartment and began opening his door. He went inside and had a blank look as he saw Eve in his apartment again.

Garrett was getting used to this by now, which honestly wasn't a good thing when he thought about it. However, he knew he could trust Eve, so he just took his mask off saying, "What's Up Eve? Did you forget something?"

Eve just had a determined look as she walked up to Garrett with clenched fists and said, "No, you forgot something."

Garrett raised an eyebrow asking, "What?"

Eve stopped right in front of him looking up since he was slightly taller than her saying, "This."

Eve surprised Garrett by grabbing his costumes collar and kissing him hard on the mouth.

Eve pressed her body against Garrett as he slowly relaxed and embraced her holding her against him as his hands roamed her back.

The two separated after a minute the need for air stopping Eve. The two breathed shakily as Garrett asked, "What does this mean?"

Eve smiled at him saying, "It means, we have more than a study date this weekend."

Garrett smiled back but gained a confused look saying, "Are you sure? You just got out-"

Eve silenced him with another kiss before saying, "I don't care about any of that. All I want is to be with you."

Garrett just smiled warmly at her simply saying, "sounds good." Before they kissed again, enjoying each other's company and celebrating the start of their new relationship.
