Jason had been awake, but unconscious for the last... he didn't know how long he'd been unconscious, but it had been a while. He'd been nourished and hydrated intravenously, been kept up to date by Weiss and the rest of his friends and family.
"Hey?" Coral asked Weiss. "How's he doing?"
"The healer says that soul attacks are rare, and because of that it makes them tricky to treat. Jason could wake up in a week or a year."
"Let's hope it's a week. We wouldn't want him missing his child's birth now, would we?"
"How are you holding up?" Summer asked Weiss.
"I just want him to wake up." Weiss admitted.
"He will. Just give him time."
"I just got back from the Healers," Weiss said. "She said that our child is a little girl. I'm thinking of naming her Frost."
"Here you go." Winter gave Weiss some food. "You need to keep you your strength."
"Thank you, Winter."
"You're Welcome. How is he?"
"The Healer Said that he's fighting and that's a good thing."
"How could they tell?"
"They checked his Aura and brain activity. They said his Aura was flaring and his brain was active."
"Well, that is good news."
"Yes, yes, it is."
"Hey Weiss!" Dr. Quinn said. "I Just thought I'd check in on Jason! Ya know, make a house call!"
"Thank you." Weiss said.
"You're welcome! Hey! Wanna hear the joke I told Ivy on my way out this morning!?"
"What?"
"So, I'm leaving the apartment today, and I look at Ivy and say: since you're Semblance allows you to control plants, does that mean I ate my vegetables last night?!"
Weiss chuckled the customary complimentary laugh one was supposed to laugh at such a joke.
"So! How's your hubby doin'?"
"Not much change."
"Okay? Do ya want to talk about it!? I'm a great listener! We can have drinks, non-alcoholic for you of course; and do our hair and nails!"
"Okay." Weiss agreed. "Maybe hearing us talk will wake Jason up."
"Great! Hey, do ya think we should also do your hubby's nails and hair?"
Jason didn't need to be awake to see Weiss's smile.
"Okay. Let's do it." Weiss agreed.
"Sister?" Whitley asked. "How are you doing?"
"I miss Jason, but I'm doing okay."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"I don't know. It felt like the appropriate response."
"Oh. I See. Thank you for your concern. Ooh."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. The baby just kicked, do you want to feel?"
"Um, uh, I suppose?"
There was silence for a moment before Whitley said. "Oh! I felt something."
"That was her foot. She's very active today."
"Wow."
"Hey." Jaune said.
"Hey." Weiss replied.
"How's He doing?"
"Better? He's awake, but not responsive."
"Want me to give him a boost?"
"I can't see it hurting anything."
Jaune touched Jason's shoulder and activated his Semblance.
Weiss felt Jason's soul flare to life, but he still didn't wake up.
"Thanks for trying." Weiss said, sadly.
"I can come back tomorrow?"
"It can't hurt. Thanks."
"You're welcome." Jaune said as he left.
Weiss took Jason's hand in hers, hoping that he would wake up soon.
"How are you doing?" Tai asked, sticking his head inside Jason and Weiss's cabin.
"I'd be better if Jason woke up." Weiss snipped.
"He will. He's a strong kid. He'll wake up soon."
"I hope so." Weiss wiped her face. "These damn hormones are driving me crazy."
"You could talk to the infirmary, I'm sure that they have something that could help you."
"Maybe."
"I hope that Jason wakes up soon." Tai said as he left.
"So do I." Weiss agreed.
"Hey." Loki walked in, holding her swollen stomach. "How goes it?"
"I just want Jason to wake up." Weiss admitted.
"Your hormones making you hornier than a dog in heat too?"
"Yeah."
"Want some help?"
"Excuse me?" Weiss bolted up.
"Do you want some help? I think that Jason will understand."
"No. If it gets to be too unbearable, I'll head to the infirmary."
"Okay. Mind if I sit down for a few minutes before I head back?"
"Sure."
Loki sat down and waited until she was ready to leave.
"Wake up soon." She patted Jason's hand. "Weiss needs you to help her hit some high notes."
Weiss choked on that and glared at Loki.
"I'm leaving." Loki laughed as she left, holding her swollen stomach.
"Hey." Geoff said. "Want ta hear th' latest Propaganda tha' Ironwood has posted about us?"
"Sure." Weiss breathed heavily."
"In his newest propaganda he calls us bandits who pillage fer our own amusement."
"So, he's called us murders, terrorists, traitors, rapists, and now pillagers?"
"Yeah."
"Asshole."
"Are ye okay lass?"
"It's these damn hormones! I'm horny as hell, and if Jason doesn't wake up soon then I'll have to go to the infirmary which I don't want to do because I don't want to leave Jason in case he wakes up."
"I could ask a healer ta come here."
"If Jason doesn't wake up in a couple of days, I think I'll take you up on that."
"Okay lass. I'll leave fer now."
"Okay."
"Jason," Weiss said in a pleading voice. "You've been unconscious for five months, and I need you. I haven't been able to satisfy my needs, and I need you to wake up. Your Shadow Clones are more or less dormant with the exception of being Shadow lockers and portals, so please, wake up."
Hearing the need, the desire, in Weiss's voice was enough to push Jason to consciousness, and he blinked his eyes open. "Hey babe." He said in a voice That was raspy from disuse.
"Jason?" Weiss asked. "Are you awake?"
"Yup, I am."
"Oh, thank the Brothers you're awake."
"Can you help me up?"
"Are you telling me that all you needed to wake up was for me to be horny as hell?" Weiss asked as she helped Jason sit up and Jason looked around. He was in their cabin on Beacon II.
"I was out for five months?" Jason asked, not meaning to ignore Weiss's question, but not knowing how best to respond at that moment.
"Yes."
"I need a shower. Can you tell me what's happened over the last five months while I shower?"
"Yes." Weiss said and she helped Jason out of bed, and he immediately fell to the floor.
"Fuck. Muscle Atrophy. Give me a second."
Jason concentrated and forced his Aura to jolt his body back to its former state, allowing his to push himself to his feet, unsteady as he was, he made it to the bathroom with Weiss's help.
They disrobed and stepped into the shower where Weiss held onto him, and he could feel her need through the contact and her soul.
"The first thing you need to know." Weiss said in a desire soaked voice. "Is that Ironwood has put out propaganda. He's called us traitors, terrorists, murders, rapists, and most recently pillagers."
"That bastard." Jason snapped. He wanted to relive Weiss somewhat, so he went to work.
Weiss felt release as soon as she felt Jason's fingers. She moaned in pure primal desire as she went over the edge in seconds.
Once she caught her breath she said. "Dr. Quinn came over to check on you." She spoke.
Jason looked at his fingers and toes and saw alternating red and black nail polish on his fingernails and toenails with the thumbs and big toes being painted black with a white snowflake and red bat in the center. He smiled. "I guess I kind of deserved that. What did you do to my hair?"
"It's been five months." Weiss explained. "It's grown out some. We dyed it red."
"Okay." Jason said looking out of the shower at the mirror and saw shoulder length red hair and... "My eyes grew back?" He said in a shocked voice.
"You're not mad?" Weiss asked. "Yes. Your Eyes grew back."
"Why should I be mad at my wife?" Jason asked, kissing her forehead, nose, and lips. "I get to look at you with my own eyes again. Plus, I make red hair look good."
Weiss blushed but kissed him back before she laughed. "I'll give you that one." She said before turning Somber. "Oh, right. There are two other things."
"What is it?" Jason asked, he could feel the turmoil in her soul.
"Scott tried helping you fight that Grimm; San, tried stopping him."
"What happened to them?" he asked, feeling a stone drop in his stomach.
"Scott... Scott was burned along the left side of his body. Jaune was able to heal him, but even he can only do so much. He still has burns, but they go from his stomach to his neck instead of his whole body."
"And San?" Jason closed his eyes, already knowing because of the Soul Bond.
"Dead. He used his Semblance to keep Scott alive. Pardus... really hasn't forgiven Scott for killing San. Scott hasn't either, but Doctor Anya and Dr. Quinn have helped Scott return to being able to function. Pardus... she's... the only way that She's been able to function is that she thinks that Ironwood was in charge of the attack that killed San. If she didn't then she'd probably kill Scott for killing San."
Jason closed his eyes and leaned against the wall, letting the spray hit him. "Damn it!" He slammed his head into the wall. "Damn it, damn it, damn it!"
"Hey." Weiss Said. "It wasn't your fault."
"You're right." Jason Said. "I did what I could, they did what they could. Shit happens, and I can't change that. I can only change what happens from this point on."
Weiss's jaw dropped. "What the hell? Out of everything I wasn't expecting that."
"You can Thank dr. Quinn. I only met her once, officially, but she left a bit of an impression."
Weiss hugged Jason and talked about a few other things that happened while he was unconscious, and he listened with the utmost attention.
"So, Frost, Huh?" Jason asked when she finished her story.
"Yeah. What do you think?"
"I think it's a perfect name."
"I'm glad you like it."
Jason turned Weiss around and rubbed her stomach to which she moaned contentedly before she turned off the water, took his hand, and dragged him back to their bed where she satisfied the desires she'd built up of the last five months he'd been unconscious.
Jason held Weiss as they laid in bed. "Wow. You really needed that." he said, kissing the back of her neck.
Weiss could only moan in contentment as she snuggled deeper into him.
"I had no idea you'd been holding all that inside up till now."
"It's kind of hard to satisfy yourself when pregnant, and even harder to do so on a ship, even if that ship is the size of a kingdom."
"I believe it, but..."
There was a knock on the door.
Jason got up and pulled a pair of shorts and a shirt on before answering the door while Weiss covered herself with the blanket.
Jason opened the door to see Geoff standing there, dazed. "Geoff? What's wrong?"
"We just found out some bad news." Geoff said.
"What's wrong?"
"Ironwood..." Geoff took in a deep shuddering breath. "Can I come in? You and Weiss both need to hear this."
"Sure... come in."
Geoff came in and held the wall for stability. "Ironwood Just had... Just murdered Rubé and Willow."
"What!?" Weiss asked, walking to Jason with a sheet around her body.
Geoff handed them his Scroll.
"In the name of Atlas!" James Ironwood said on the screen. "I am giving Jason Todd and Geoffrey Patrick five minutes to turn themselves in, otherwise the traitors Rubé Kenai and Willow Schnee will be put to death for harboring fugitives from the law!"
Ironwood made a show of giving them the time to turn themselves in, but after the time was up, he looked at Rubé and Willow. "I suppose they are more selfish than I thought." He spoke.
"Fuck you, James!" Rubé Spat. "They are fighting for something greater than themselves! They are fighting for the freedom of all!"
"I would rather die a thousand deaths than know that my son-in-law was killed by you!" Willow snapped.
"Are those your final words?" Ironwood asked.
"I want Coco to live on." Rubé Said. "To give Pico a home, to be there for him, and to not let my death consume her."
"I want Jason and Weiss to raise my granddaughter to be strong no matter what happens. I know they can beat you, and they will raise her in a world without Your tyranny."
"Very Well." Ironwood Said. "Fire."
There was a blast on Screen and the only thing left of Rubé and Willow was ash.
"NO!" Weiss shouted. "NO!" She sobbed as she grabbed Jason for support.
Jason held Weiss and glared at the Scroll. "Ironwood Just signed his execution papers." He said in a cold, dark tone.
Both men heard liquid hit the floor and Jason looked at Weiss. "Let's get you to bed." He picked her up.
"That was my water breaking!" Weiss choked out. "I'm going into labor!"
"Oh. OH!" Jason shouted, picking Weiss up and taking her to the Infirmary via Shadow portal.
Geoff made his decision and left Jason and Weiss's room. Ironwood had just declared war... Geoff would give it to him.
As he walked to the bridge a shadow clone of Jason appeared next to him.
"Ye need ta be wit Weiss." He spoke.
"Are you sure you don't want my help?"
"Who do ya t'ink's been runnin' da show while ye were in a coma?"
"You?"
"Me, now get goin'."
Jason disappeared and Geoff walked to the bridge. He walked to the control panel and looked at it. "Are ya ready girl?" he asked, running a hand across the control panel. "Le's show 'em wha yer made of?"
He pressed the ignition and Beacon II roared to life.
For over thirty years it lay dormant. Thirty years until HE came and finished it. It heard everything that had happened since he found it. Heard about everyone who had been hurt and brought to it as sanctuary.
He'd given it a name; Beacon II. A name that it wore proudly. A name that he associated with Hope and new beginnings.
Over the last several months it had watched as people were brought aboard. First it was the people from that place, but then it was others. People who looked so beaten and downtrodden. Those people kept coming, until the people who walked on all fours; it didn't think that they were supposed to do that, but they were.
There was so much sadness about, and he tried keeping spirits high. He was so good, but every day it saw the toll it took on him. Every day he became a little less good.
Then one day that changed. He started becoming good again. It was as if a great burden had been lifted from his shoulders, and he could be good again.
They began being happier, more food, more supplies, the little ones were happy, they had food in their bellies, toys in their arms, and blankets for their beds.
Then they celebrated and they were happy. It absorbed ambient Aura, but still slept. They dressed up and ate food and celebrated with gifts.
The next day they began one of four ceremonies. It didn't understand these ceremonies, but they were happy... at least until they weren't. They came back and had an injured companion that should have been dead but wasn't.
It watched as the one who was supposed to be dead slowly came back to life, and a partner kept watch over him.
Friends came to check on him and watched his improvement.
The one who had fixed it took over again, but this time he was better prepared for the responsibility, and his partner helped him.
The one who was supposed to be dead woke up and his partner was rushed to the hospital after the one who repaired it showed them something.
The one who repaired it made his way to the bridge and called it a girl. Was it a Girl? It felt no pull towards either gender, but if he said it was a girl then she was a girl.
He activated the ignition, and called everyone to battle stations, and she took her first breath of life. She was created to protect and that was what she would do.
AN: I recommend listening to the Atlas Falls Piano cover by Ashcroft music while reading the next part.
Throughout the ship she saw people running to their battle stations. Some were securing hatches and cabins, others were lifting supplies to wherever they were needed.
She watched as the gun batteries were prepped and readied for combat.
She watched as lights outside turned on, illuminating her surroundings. She was in a cavern, and a good portion of her was underground. Her turbines activated and began kicking up dust and debris that pelted her exterior.
Inside, on the bridge, he shouted for increased power. He wanted more power until she was at fifty percent.
When she reached fifty percent power, she lifted off the ground and felt herself break free of the earthen prison that had held her for the last thirty years.
She slowly rose toward the ceiling of the cavern that had held her for so very long. Deck, after deck, after deck rose until she was free.
Inside he told them to activate shields and wait for his signal.
Brilliant bluish-white shields sprang to life around her and she felt rejuvenated, invincible.
He shouted, telling everyone to brace for impact as her shields hit the ceiling with a crash. He shouted for them to increase power until it was at one hundred percent power.
Slowly, very slowly she felt the power increase until it almost hurt.
There was a crack, and a crack appeared in the ceiling where she was, and she felt the ceiling give, sending rocks down around her and exploding outwards with the sheer force of her escape.
She burst from her earthen prison and rose into the air, shrouded in a cloud of dust and debris. She was free.
Inside they cheered and he told them to be on guard.
She was on guard, but she knew that nothing out there could compete with her and the one who helped her escape. She had but one mission now, and she was going to accomplish it.
Inside the infirmary the one who had been hurt used his ability, Semblance she thought it was called, to keep his partner in place when they hit the ceiling. She was crying, there was blood, and her stomach was swollen. Was she hurt? What happened? She didn't understand, but she was built to protect people, and so protect people she would. She helped the one helping his partner by placing a protective dome around them so they wouldn't be hurt.
After hours she saw a new life in the infirmary, a child. The partner's stomach was no longer swollen but there was blood that was being cleaned up, she glowed white and was slowly healed, but couldn't take away the exhaustion.
Both had held the child. There were tears though it shouldn't have been sad, why were they sad if they had a child. Did they not want it? She watched him hug the child desperately and promise that he would always protect her, and never let anything bad ever happen to her.
His partner motioned them both over and she hugged both of them, taking the child she held it to her chest where it grabbed her chest and held its mouth to it. Was she sustaining the child?
Someone ran in, there was a flash of light, and they ceased to be. She had failed to protect. She had failed her primary directive. She had failed.
