The Eel Effect
Things at Berk were not going too well… again
This time most of the Vikings were sick with Eel pox which is a pretty dangerous decease, its symptoms are: chills, sneezing, coughing, and delusions
The teens except for Astrid were at the academy getting ready to go at Healer's Island for the ingredients to make the cure
"You ready, gang?" Hiccup asked
"Ready to leave Berk during an island outbreak of Eel pox? Let me think, let me think, let me think, I would say a big fat yes" Snotlout said
"The sooner the better, I don't want to get sick" Tuffnut said
"And if he gets sick, I get sick" Ruffnut said
"You do?" Tuffnut asked
"Yeah, we're twins" Ruffnut said
"So, if I slap myself, you would feel the pain?" Tuffnut asked
"Definitely. Give it a try" Ruffnut said
"Cool" Tuffnut said before slapping himself, so Ruffnut pretended to feel the pain
"Do it again" she said, so Tuffnut slapped himself again and Ruffnut pretended to feel the pain "Do it again, harder"
"Glady" Tuffnut said and slapped himself yet again
"Okay, that's enough" Blake said "Is Eel pox really that bad? I don't think I've been sick with Eel pox. Well, is that or I don't remember it"
Then, Stoick entered the academy but he didn't look so good
"Hiccup!" he sneezed
"Dad, you should be resting up at the Great Hall" Hiccup said
"Nonsense" Stoick said before sneezing all over Snotlout "I wouldn't be grounded by the sniffles". Then, Stoick was about to sneeze again, so he looked away in order to avoid sneezing on his son but he sneezed all over Blake instead
"Ugh, that's disgusting" Blake muttered
Then, Astrid and Stormfly entered the academy with Gothi
"I've got the list of ingredients and it's a big one" Astrid said as Gothi showed them the big list
"Well then, we better get moving. That medicine it's not going to make itself" Hiccup said as he picked up his shield
"I should be going with you" Stoick said as he followed Hiccup but he sneezed again. Luckily, Hiccup blocked it with his shield
"Dad, Berk needs a healthy chief not a sick dragon rider. We can handle this" Hiccup said
"All right, I'll stay here with the rest of the village" Stoick said as the teens began to leave on their dragons "Be safe, Hiccup"
"When am I not safe?" Hiccup asked but Stoick just raised an eyebrow "Uh… don't answer that"
Some time later, they arrived at Healer's Island
"Okay, gang, we have a lot of ground to cover, so let's get to work" Hiccup said
The teens had to split up around the island in order to get the ingredients of the cure for Eel pox like Buckthorn Root lightly roasted. When Snotlout ripped of the root off the ground Hookfang roasted it immediately
Another ingredient was a dozen of Rock Blossoms which Meatlug happily looked for in exchange for a dozen of rocks
The Goatweed was another ingredient for the cure and it was pretty easy to get, so Astrid and Stormfly went for it. However, the Wild Daga Plant wasn't that easy to get
The twins went to get it, so Tuffnut had to climb a mountain in order to get it but Ruffnut was throwing rocks at him
When they had all of the ingredients, they reunited at the shore and Hiccup placed the ingredients in Toothless' saddle bag
"I think that's everything, right?" Hiccup asked looking at Gothi who shook het head and began to write on the sand, so Fishlegs and Blake went to translate
"Apparently the last ingredient isn't in this island" Blake said
"The last ingredient is… a Bloodbane Eel!" Fishlegs gasped "Where do we get those?!"
Gothi just pointed at the sea with her staff
"Well, great because we're not going to be able to search the whole ocean this afternoon, we need at least a long weekend for that, maybe even into Monday night" Tuffnut said before pinned him to the ground with her staff
"Gothi doesn't like to be interrupted, I learned it the bad way" Blake said rubbing the back of his head "Anyway, she says we have to head north to… oh"
Neither Fishlegs or Blake said something, they just looked at each other
"Where do we have to go?" Hiccup asked
"Eel Island" Fishlegs said
"Our dragons would never go near Eel Island, they're terrified of eels" Astrid said
"You're right, Toothless and I will go alone" Hiccup said but Toothless didn't look excited about the idea "I know, bud, eels aren't your favorite but you're the fastest dragon"
"Let us go with you" Blake said as he got on Thunder's back "Thunder is pretty fast too and he's not terrified of eels as the other dragons, it'll be easier for us to get closer"
"All right, let's get going" Hiccup said, so he and Blake flew off
"Uh, good luck" Fishlegs said before Astrid realized something
"Wait! Hiccup! You got all the other… ingredients" she yelled but Hiccup and Blake were already too far away
"Don't worry, they'll be back before we are" Fishelgs said
Some time later, Hiccup and Blake saw an island in the distance while they were flying
"So, I guess that's Eel Island, isn't it?" Blake said
"Let's take a closer look" Hiccup said
They flew closer near the island where they quickly found eels in a river
"Wow, eels, that was quick" Hiccup said
"I don't think it's called 'Eel Island' for the lack of eels" Blake said "So… how are we supposed to get one?"
"Let me try something" Hiccup said as he used the grappling hook of his shield trying to hook one eel and he seemed to catch one, so he pulled the line but an eel jumped out of the river and landed on Toothless' face
He panicked as he tried to get it off his face but that also made Hiccup fell into the river
"Hiccup!" Blake yelled
An eel warped around Hiccup's neck while others tried to pull him down but a plasma blast scared them off but one tried to attack Hiccup. However, Toothless got into the river and ate the eel before pulling Hiccup out
"Hiccup! Are you okay?" Blake asked as he landed
"I am, but Toothless… he… he ate an eel" Hiccup said
"He what?!" Blake asked
They all looked at Toothless who seemed scared
"Toothless, it's all right" Hiccup said walking towards his dragon who growled sacredly "Let me take a look at you"
Thunder, tried to get close to Toothless but he roared aggressively and ran off
"Toothless, coma back!" Hiccup yelled
"We have to catch up with him before-" Blake got interrupted when he began to cough violently "Oh gods, not again. How did I catch a cold here?"
Blake continued to cough, so Hiccup walked towards him
"Blake, I don't think it's a cold, I think it's eel pox" Hiccup said
"Eel pox? But how? The last time I got contact with someone with eel pox was… when Stoick sneezed all over me!" Blake gasped before getting on Thunder's back "I think I should go back to Berk"
"No, you can't fly in your condition, it's dangerous" Hiccup said
"We have to go for Toothless then. We'll go faster on Thunder, I'll be fine" Blake said, so Hiccup nodded and got on Thunder's back who ran off to look for Toothless
Meanwhile at Berk, the rest of the teens landed at the Great Hall where Stoick was waiting
"Do you have the ingredients?" he asked
"Uh… Hiccup has them" Fishlegs said awkwardly
"Well, where is he?" Stoick asked
"I don't know, he and Blake should be here. They went to get the last ingredient" Astrid said
"Well, we have to find them, we won't be able to stand this eel pox much lunger. The fever… it makes it hard to think straight" Stoick said just before Gobber exited the Great Hall, and for some reason he had flowers all over his helmet
"Where's my little Gobber? Aunty Rose wants to give him a big kiss" he said before attempting to kiss Stoick
"See what I mean?" Stoick said as he stopped Gobber with his hand
"Uh… yes" Astrid said a bit uncomfortable "We'll find them, sir, I promise"
They quickly flew off leaving Stoick and Gobber behind
"You better take a nap, so you don't catch a cold" Gobber said
"Would you stop that?!" Stoick asked
"Ooh, you got a wee smug, darling" Gobber said before licking his thumb and rub it against Stoick's cheek
"Gobber!" he yelled
Back at Eel Island, Hiccup, Blake and Thunder were still trying to find Toothless
"Blake, are you sure you'll be fine?" Hiccup asked
"Y-yeah… I'm just… a little cold" Blake said with a shiver
"The eel pox's getting worse, you said you're not cold when you ride Thunder" Hiccup said
"Did I say that? I thought you were the one who doesn't get cold when you ride Toothless" Blake said before thinking in his own words "Great, I think the fever is starting to affect me"
Suddenly, they saw an explosion in the sky that could only be made by a Night Fury, but the explosion was red instead of purple
"That must be Toothless, let's go, Thunder" Blake said
It wasn't hard to find Toothless, he was in a clearing which was inside of the forest
"Toothless!" Hiccup said as he got off Thunder's back. When Toothless saw his rider, he began to panic "It's okay, bud. I can help you"
Then, Toothless shot a red plasma blast without reason, he tried to close his mouth but he shot another plasma blast at a tree creating a bigger explosion than usual, so Hiccup fell
"All right, that's big and incredibly dangerous. No wonder why you guys don't go easy on eels" Hiccup said
Toothless shot another plasma blast at Blake and Thunder but they ducked and dodged it
"Okay, six shot limit, that was four" Hiccup said
Toothless shot his fifth plasma blast near Hiccup making him fall once again and shot his sixth plasma blast at the sky
"And that's make six" Hiccup said as he got up
"Be careful, Hiccup" Blake coughed
"Toothless is out of shots, maybe now we can find a way to fix this" Hiccup said before noticing Toothless' mouth was glowing red
"Seven shots? Are you kidding me?!" Hiccup asked as he ducked
Meanwhile at Berk the teens were outside Hiccup's house waiting for him and Blake
"No, they're not back yet" Astrid groaned
"You sure? Because I… I think I could use some of that…" Tuffnut stopped for a moment to throw up "Medicine"
"Wait, you guys are sick too?" Fishlegs asked
"I'm f-f-fine" Snotlout sneezed "Just… peachy"
"We can't send them out again, it's too dangerous" Fishlegs said
"Gothi and I will ger everything ready for when you get back" Astrid said
"Right" Fishlegs said before looking at Astrid "Back from where?"
"You are going to go and find Hiccup and Blake" Astrid said before flying off
"Eel island, that's just great" Fishlegs complained as he flew off, leaving a confused Tuffnut behind
Back at Eel Island, Hiccup and Blake had to hid behind Thunder who was trying to protect them from Toothless' plasma blasts
"We… can't stay here" Blake coughed
"I just need to get close to Toothless" Hiccup said
Then, Toothless shot a plasma blast straight at Thunder, so he had to shot a lighting blast. The explosion sent Thunder and the boys flying into a tree
Toothless was also sent flying into a tree but he quickly got up and slowly walked towards Hiccup to see if he was okay, when he was close enough, he nudged him
"Toothless" Hiccup said before Toothless ran off
"Toothless, wait!" Hiccup said as he and Thunder got up, Blake didn't have any strength left, so he sat and leaned against the tree
Then, they heard some movement in some bushes, so Thunder quickly got ready to attack whatever it was, but he calmed down when Fishlegs and Meatlug came out of it
"Hiccup!" Fishlegs said happily
"Fishlegs, I'm glad to see you!" Hiccup said
"Where's Blake?" Fishlegs asked
"Right here" Blake sneezed
"You don't look so good, what happened here?" Fishlegs asked
"My dad gave Blake eel pox when he sneezed on him and Toothless ate an eel" Hiccup explained
"Toothless ate an eel?!" Fishlegs gasped
"He did" Blake coughed
"And it's not agreeing with him either" Hiccup said
"I can still help you to find him" Blake said as he tried to get up but Thunder gently pushed him back before shaking his head to say no
"No, you've done enough, Fishlegs and I will go and look for Toothless. But first" Hiccup said before pulling out a net and place it on the ground
"What are you doing?" Fishlegs asked
"I'm building a netter trap" Hiccup said
"You really think this net is going to hold Toothless?" Fishlegs asked
"Well, if it doesn't Meatlug could always sit of him" Hiccup joked
"She can hear you, you know?" Fishlegs asked but Meatlug was asleep
"What a day, I don't know how much worse things can get" Hiccup said as he threw a grappling to a branch above him
"I do, pretty worse actually, all the ingredients for the eel pox cure are still in Toothless' saddle bag and I don't even want to tell you how are things back at the village" Fishlegs said
Hiccup could only imagine how things were back at Berk as he looked at Blake for a moment whose fever was starting to get worse
Minutes later, Hiccup finished to set up the trap
"Well, I hope this works" Hiccup said as he gave a few steps backwards "We better get in the air and see if we can track Toothless down" then, he looked at Thunder "Thunder, stay here and keep and eye on Blake, will you?"
Thunder nodded before Hiccup and Fishlegs flew away on Meatlug but when they were on the air Hiccup saw something
"Hey, Fishlegs, does that clearing look familiar at all?" Hiccup said looking down, so Fishlegs looked down and saw a burn mark
"That's… that's a Thyphoomerang mark" Fishelgs said
"The only dragon that eats eels" Hiccup said
"That makes sense it's a prefect habitat for them, I bet there's tons of wild Thyphoomerangs here" Fishlegs said before realizing on what he said "That's bad, really bad"
They continued to fly trying to look for Toothless
"Hiccup, you said Toothless' skin felt warm, right?" Fishlegs asked
"Yeah, plus he has what you might call an explosive cough" Hiccup said
"Okay, what do you get if you put all of those symptoms together?" Fishlegs asked
"Eel pox" Hiccup said "I wonder if eels cure the pox in people maybe they cause it in dragons"
"Maybe" Fishlegs said
"So, if we give Toothless the medicine maybe that counteract the eel?" Hiccup asked
"That's kinda stretching it" Fishlegs said
"If you got a better idea, I'm open" Hiccup said
"Nope, stretch way, my friend" Fishlegs said just before they saw a red explosion
"Over there!" Hiccup said
They arrived at a cliff, so they landed and peaked over the edge where they saw Toothless who was still trying to control his plasma blasts
"All right, get be close but be careful, he can't control where he fires" Hiccup said
Then, Fishlegs looked up when he saw how a shadow was covering them
"Uh… Hiccup… you got a sec?" Fishlegs asked
"Eh, busy, can it wait?" Hiccup asked still looking at Toothless
"It could, it could but I don't think it will" Fishlegs said pointing up
Confused, Hiccup looked up and saw a turquoise Thyphoomerang who roared at them
Toothless also saw the Thyphoomerang, so he shot a plasma blast at it but he missed
The Thyphoomerang began to fly and chase after Toothless
"Toothless!" Hiccup yelled
Said dragon continued to run until he trapped against the cliff wall
"Fly us over Toothless!" Hiccup ordered, so Meatlug began to fly towards them
"Meatlug, spew" Fishlegs ordered, so Meatlug shot some lava at the Thyphoomerang giving Toothless the chance to escape
"Meet me at the clearing" Hiccup said as he began to stand up
"What are you doing?" Fishlegs asked
"I'm getting my dragon back. Just make sure you keep the big guy busy" Hiccup said
"Fishlegs and Meatlug against a Thyphoomerang… it doesn't sound fair" Fishlegs said
"You're right, the Thyphoomerang doesn't have a chance" Hiccup said before jumping from Meatlug's back
Surprisingly, he landed on Toothless' back who tried to throw Hiccup of him as he shot plasma blasts everywhere
"I'm not letting go, bud. Like it or not you're stuck with me" Hiccup said as he tried to get his metal leg in the stirrup
The Thyphoomerang was about to charge at them but Fishlegs and Meatlug got in the way and shot a lava blast
The Thyphoomerang got stunned for a moment before shotting a fire stream at them
"That was close" Fishelgs said before flying off but the Thyphoomerang was now chasing after him
Back with Hiccup, he was still trying to stay on Toothless' back who was running towards a cliff
"That's going to be an issue" Hiccup said
Then, Toothless fell off the cliff but Hiccup was able to get his metal leg in the stirrup and open Toothless' tail allowing him to fly. However, he didn't have to much control over his flight
Back with Fishlegs, he was trying to escape from the Thyphoomerang
"Thor, if you're listening we could really use Astrid's help right now" Fishlegs begged before having to dodge a fire stream from the Thyphoomerang "Or Snotlout… or maybe Blake even though he's got eel pox" then, he had dodge another fire stream "Or the twins, I'll even take the twins!"
Meanwhile at Berk, the twins were at the academy testing some basic physics, so Tuffnut stood on Belch's head as he held a rock and a feather on one hand each
"One, two, three" Tuffnut said before dropping the rock and the feather at the same time. Of course, the rock reached the ground reached the ground first
"How fascinating" Ruffnut said after coughing
"Oh, dear sister, our hypothesis appears to be correct" Tuffnut said as he got off Belch's head "The air offers a much greater resistance to the falling motion to the feather than it does to the rock"
"Remarkable, shall we increase our sample size? What say you?" Ruffnut said
"We shall!" Tuffnut said
"I propose we try to dropping a large yak alone side a normal sized dragon rider" Ruffnut said
"Huh, my sister is that brilliant and I'm a normal sized dragon rider" Tuffnut said "What luck?"
"I'm of to find a suitable yak" Ruffnut said
"Science" the twins said as they hi fived before walking away coughing
Back at Eel Island, Hiccup was still trying to keep Toothless under control
"This would be a lot easier if you just-" Hiccup got interrupted when Toothless dived into the sea, they came out just a few seconds later but Hiccup was all wet and hanging onto Toothless' saddle with one hand "Slowed down"
Meanwhile, Fishlegs was still trying to escape from the Thyphoomerang but then, it tried to shot them a fire stream but nothing came out
"It's out of shots" Fishlegs said as he looked back. However, the Thyphoomerang flew closed to the sea, grabbed a bunch of eels and ate them recharging its shot limit, so it began to spin and shot a fire tornado
Luckily, Fishlegs and Meatlug were able to dodged but it wasn't without troubles
"Okay, I've had enough" Fishlegs said before looking at Meatlug "Time for the gale-force Gronckle"
The Thyphoomerang was charging at them but it was exactly what Fishlegs wanted
"Hit it, girl! Gale-force Gronckle!" Fishlegs ordered
Meatlug began to spin and thanks to that, she was able to hit the Thyphoomerang in the head with the bludgeon of her tail, the Thyphoomerang was too stunned that it lost control over its flight and was falling into the ocean but it regained control over it and flew away
Then, Meatlug stopped spinning, leaving Fishlegs dizzy and about to throw up
"Okay, give me a second for my insides to catch up with my insides" Fishlegs said as he tried to lay on Meatlug "That's why we don't do it too often"
Back with Hiccup, he managed to get on Toothless' back once again
"You know, I actually remember when this was easy" Hiccup said before noticing the Thyphoomerang burn mark he saw earlier, so he tried to force Toothless to fly towards it
"Toothless, if you're in there, we're about to-" Hiccup wasn't able to finish his sentence because they crashed and he was thrown off Toothless' back
Toothless got up and was about to walk towards Hiccup until a new fell on top of him
"Got you!" Blake said as he and Thunder came out of some bushes "I got him, right? Because I think I've seen like eight Toothless flying around the island"
"You actually caught Toothless, thanks, Blake" Hiccup said
"No problem" Blake coughed almost falling from Thunder's back in the process
Unfortunately, Toothless shot a plasma blast creating a hole in net allowing him to escape
"Toothless, no!" Hiccup yelled noticing how Toothless was about to charge at them but out of knowhere, Meatlug fell on top of Toothless pinning him to the ground
"Uh… is the eel pox getting worse or did Meatlug just came out of nowhere?" Blake asked
"Fishlegs, I can't believe that actually worked" Hiccup said
"Careful, Hiccup, he might shoot you" Fishlegs said
"No, he won't" Hiccup said as he walked towards Toothless "You're okay, just a little sick, but we might have a way to fix that"
Minutes later, Fishlegs finished to make the cure for the eel pox and gave it to Hiccup
"Here goes nothing" he said
Toothless sniffed the medicine and opened his mouth to shot a plasma blast but Hiccup quickly thew the medicine into his mouth
At first, Toothless didn't seemed to like the taste but all of the sudden he managed to get Meatlug off his back and pounced at Hiccup before roaring in his face
Thunder was preparing himself to shot a lighting blast if Toothless attacked Hiccup but instead, Toothless thew up the eel on Hiccup's lap
"Eew, great" Hiccup said a little disgusted before realizing Toothless was getting control over himself "There's the Toothless I know" Hiccup didn't hesitate to give Toothless a hug, something that he enjoyed "Welcome back, bud"
Then, a Typhoomerang roar was heard
"Uh, while I love this reunion, perhaps we should finish it back at Berk" Fishlegs said nervously
"I couldn't possible agree more" Hiccup said
"Guys… before we leave… can I get some of that medicine?" Blake coughed
"Oh, right, sorry" Hiccup said
That evening, Astrid was looking out to the sea, she was shivering and coughing which means she had eel pox
"Excuse me, you should be indoors, young lady" a voice said, so Astrid turned around and saw Hiccup, Fishlegs and Blake on their dragons "You'll catch your death cold in this weather"
"Hiccup, you're okay" Astrid said
"Yeah, we all are" Hiccup said patting Toothless' had
Later that night, Stoick and Gobber were already cured from the eel pox and were giving the medicine to the other Vikings until they saw how Snotlout was talking to a Terrible Terror
"Better make him a double dose" Gobber said, Stoick couldn't help but to nod in agreement
Suddenly, the twins entered the Great Hall
"Everyone, we had a breakthrough. Ruffnut has determined that if you boil yak milk you can freeze it on a stick and dip it a variety of tasty flavors including coconut"
"I called it ruff-cream" Ruffnut said
"Hold on I thought it was tuff-cream" Tuffnut argued "We talked about this in the other room, you said I could be tuff-cream. Did I mishear you or are you putting wool over my ears, madam?"
"A triple dose for those muttonheads, who would freeze perfectly good milk? Never heard of anything so barbaric in my life" Gobber said
Later that night, Hiccup Fishlegs and Blake were giving an update to the book of dragons
"I'm noticing the skittish behavior, the fever and the out-of-control firepower" Fishelgs said
"It's basically the eel pox version for dragons" Blake added
"Now we know why they don't like eels" Hiccup said
"Except the Typhoomerangs" Fishlegs said
"Which is why they live at Eel Island" Blake said
"And that's why we're never going back to Eel Island" Hiccup said
"Thank Thor" Fishlegs said
"Speaking of Eel Island, I'm sorry, Hiccup" Blake said rubbing the back of his head "The idea of me going with you was helping you and I ended up being a burden"
"It's okay, you and Fishlegs really helped me, I couldn't have done it without any of you, thanks" Hiccup said
"Group hug, Meatlug!" Fishlegs said
Meatlug and Fishlegs jumped and pinned Hiccup and Blake to the ground taking out all of the air from their lungs in the process
"Isn't this great?" Fishlegs asked
"Totally" Blake said
"Yeah… it's great" Hiccup said
Well, at least everyone was cured from the eel pox
