Chapter 4: Dead Dog's Paw

A/N: currently on a road trip so I might update this a lot but idk.

Meanwhile chase was at the police station.

Chase was still trying to calm down the man going off about highway pileups and forklifts until a different officer took him out of the room for questioning. That's when an officer brought a women in the room.

"Chase, we have another one going on about disasters they saw in their head." A deputy said.

Chase sighed. "Bring 'em in." He said. The deputy said

While Chase was waiting for his next fugitive to question, calm down and eventually send home with no useful information, he decided to unmute the TV and listen to the news to listen to in the background.

The deputy brought in a teenage girl who was freaking out just like the last guy Chase talked to.

"You have to believe me. I had nothing to do with the slide collapse! I saw it as if I was there!" The woman said.

There was silence for about a minute until it was broken by someone opening the door to the office Chase was in.

"Sir, I need you in the morgue, it's urgent." The officer said.

Chase sighed for probably the millionth time that morning. "Ma'am you're dismissed." Chase said as he walked out of the room.

Chase walked down the hall to the morgue door as he fallowed officer Dan.

Officer Dan opened the door and closed it behind chase.

The room was cold and clammy, and smelt like death, obviously.

"Why do you want me in here, Officer Dan?" Chase asked, obviously confused.

"The mortician needs to break the unfortunate news." Officer Dan said.

Just then, a man with a slightly bloody white apron was noticed by Chase. But what caught chases attention was the table with a white cloth on it.

Before Chase could say anything, the mortician pulled the white cloth off of the table, revealing Rocky's dead body lying there.

Chase was horrified.

The poor pup's face had a look of sadness and horror on it. His body was dripping wet. And his stomach looked like it was pressed against his spine.

"W- what happened to him?" Chase asked nervously.

"He was... disemboweled... by a pool drain... I'm sorry for your loss." Officer Dan stated.

Chase stared horrifyingly at his friend's now deceased body.

"The park is being closed and is remaining closed until more safe drains can be installed." Officer Dan said.

Chase was still stunned and what happened to his friend. He turned to Officer Dan. "Get Ryder on the phone, please." Chase said.

Ryder had been standing at the pool deck for what seemed like hours when he felt the vibration of his phone ring in his pocket.

He reached for it and saw that the police department was calling him. He knew it was Chase.

He answered the phone and put it to his ear.

"Ryder, sir, what happened? I thought you said Marshall was next." Chase said frantically.

Ryder sighed. "It turns out he wasn't meant to go..." Ryder said as he felt himself shed a tear.

Chase and Ryder were speechless for a few moments.

"If you want to join me, I'll be at the lookout in 10 minutes." Ryder said as he hung up.

Zuma on the other hand, was just sitting on the pool deck. Not believing that his friend was dead.

Zuma stood there so long that he didn't realize an hour had passed by. Just astonished at how his friend was dead, gone, for good.

As he turned around to walk away, he ran into some caution tape that had been set up. He ducked under it as he walked towards his vehicle to head back to the lookout.

As Zuma hopped in his vehicle, he heard a reporter talking for the news.

"It appears that after a malfunction of the drain, it applied one hundred and eighty pounds of pressure, which then made the pups insides, outsides." He said.

"Zuma, you coming home?" Ryder called out to the pup.

"Y- yeah, I'm coming." Zuma replied as he whimpered.

The drive back to the lookout was silent as you could imagine. No one even thought about saying something.

All the pups except Zuma were in their pup houses and Ryder was asleep in his bedroom.

The young lad was sleeping, trying to get some rest so he can can get him and his family out of this disaster.

Ryder was eventually able to fall asleep and escape into dreamland. Where he saw what looked to be what was seemed to be a broken pool drain cover. The white circular object started to spin rapidly and on one spin, turned into a pup tag. It was green with a recycle symbol on it. The glass on the pup tag then suddenly shattered as a screwdriver was launched through it. Then what seemed to be the pup treat launcher that Rocky had invented launched the broken pup tag.

Ryder woke up covered in sweat. As he sat up however, a vase on a shelf had fallen and struck him on the head. Knocking him out.

Zuma was just intensely staring at the broken pool drain next to Rocky's pup pack while he listened to the news.

"I don't wanna see you anymore." Zuma said to himself out loud as he picked up the cover and put it in Rocky's toolbox on the shelf, not noticing the toolbox teetering on the edge.

Zuma walked over and saw Rocky's pup tag on the ground. He started to tear up and he picked it up and held it up to the light to watch it glimmer.

Meanwhile a gust of wind came through the lookout, sending the toolbox tumbling down off the shelf. Two random objects had landed on the launching part of the pup treat launcher Rocky was gonna fox before he went to the pool.

Zuma heard the TV's Breaking News sound effect, making him turn and invest his attention into what the TV had to say.

"Breaking News. The Adventure Bay Splash water park had multiple tragedies in one single day. A waterslide collapse took the lives of 17 people and injured a further 19 during the collapse." One news reporter said.

The other news reported looked at the first. "In other news, Paw Patrol member and survivor of the 360 Degree Chair Swing disaster, Rocky died in the pool of the same water park. Whitenesses say that while he was fixing the drain, the pup got stuck to it when it was mistakenly enabled. The pup suffered the same fate as Hunt Whynorski, a former survivor of the McKinley Speedway crash, who also died in a pool because of the drain back in 2010."

All of a sudden, a hammer from Rocky's toolbox fell of the shelf and activated the lever of the pup treat launcher. It launched a screwdriver and the drain cover towards Zuma. Before he could do anything, the screwdriver impaled Zuma right in the left eye.

"Somebody help me!" Zuma yelled in terror. Before he could do anything else, the drain cover impacted with the screwdriver and punched it in deeper into Zuma's skull.
