Élise leaned on the patio railings, looking out into the garden under the clouds. Her thoughts were morose. Since their secret passageway plan had failed, Timothee had not authorized any further rescue attempt. She had been intentionally keeping her head in the sand about current events, but she suspected Roland and Bailly were both dead by now. It was harder having met Roland's husband, who had loved her dearly.

Why had those two not been worth rescuing to the Templars, when she was? Perhaps because they had lost the people's love, and thus outlived their usefulness. But she was a weapon, it did not matter how loved she was.

Élise could have chosen a life of monotony and security in Normandy, a choice the boys of the Assassin Order did not have. Instead she had traded it for life as a killer.

She heard the door open behind her.

"That calendar is not fit to wipe mon cul, Martin," Alphonse said as he walked into the backyard.

"I'm not saying you have to like, but we should become familiar with-"

"Élise!" she heard Timothee call. She turned around. "Why don't you come inside?"

What was this? She entered the opened doors. Chobat went to sit down on the couch facing the back. She took a seat across from him.

"First, some good news! It seems the Assassins have realized the urgency of the Illuminati situation! The truce between our orders has extended! The Assassin branches in Normandy, Lyon, and Marseille have agree to comply with our little cease fire. We've been essentially guaranteed non-aggression in the entirety of Northern and Eastern France!"

That was beautiful news! Even her own family would no longer be on hostile terms with the Templars!

"I am beyond honored, Monsieur!" Finally, something to brighten these dark times!

Incidentally, she had no idea there were Assassins in Marseille. Maybe they had only just got there.

"Oui, it is fantastic news! But news in Paris itself is far more grim. You won't believe what those pompous traitors have done. They've purged the Notre Dame Cathedral of its original staff, and rededicated it as 'The Temple of Reason.'"

The Temple of Reason? Oh brother...

He continued, "But there's a silver lining. At the cathedral they are holding a celebration. They are calling it 'The Festival of Reason.' This, naturally, will be a target rich environment, and we've obtained some intelligence that may allow us to take out two of the Illuminati's men discreetly. One target for Arno, and one for you. Have your heard the name Antoine Momoro?"
