The Winter Dance was starting to feel like itself again. If anything, it looked lighter and felt more inviting. All of the students and teachers surrounded the dance floor, excitement in the air.
There wasn't much time left for Class 1-A to get their dancers ready.
Getting Midoriya ready was no big deal, just had to straighten up his suit and fix his tie a bit. Ashido tried to slick back his hair with gel, but it just kept popping back up into his usual, messy style. Uraraka couldn't stop herself from laughing. She was secretly glad that it didn't work.
Yaoyorozu and Ashido were almost done redoing Uraraka's hair and makeup. They were all over her, but Uraraka didn't mind. She was just happy to see them excited about the performance again. Without them, she didn't know how her and Midoriya would be able to pull this off. She had to come up with a way to repay everyone after all of this.
"Alright folks! Now, they're ready more than ever!" Present Mic announced with a lot of excitement behind it, "Give it up for Class 1-B's: Itsuka Kendo and TetsuTetsu TetsuTetsu!"
The tension grew as they picked up the pace.
"Ashido, are you almost done?" Yaoyorozu asked as she gave Uraraka's hair one last hairspray.
"I'm trying! The lighting in here is throwing me off," Ashido told her as she added blush to Uraraka's cheeks.
"You know, it doesn't have to be perfect," Uraraka said, disappointed she's going to miss Kendo and TetsuTetsu's performance.
Everyone could hear the music playing. It sounded pretty intimidating and powerful. The crowd was blocking any sort of shot at seeing them dance. Glancing over at her partner, he looked just as nervous as she felt.
"Alright, you're all done," Ashido said with so much excitement in her voice.
Then Yaoyorozu handed her new silver high heels to replace the broken ones.
"You can't perform without these," She said as she handed them to Uraraka.
"You two are going to knock it out of the park!" Ashido commented with a sincere smile, "I just know it."
Before tears had the chance to ruin her makeup, Uraraka gave Ashido and Yaoyorozu a big hug. It looked a bit awkward since she was hugging them all at once, but it felt right.
"I can't thank you guys enough," Uraraka whispered to them, "We really hope to represent our class to the best of our abilities."
They both hugged her back. Once they separated, she tried to put her shoes on. But Ashido stopped her and called Midoriya over.
"Can you help her with her shoes? She's having trouble with the straps."
"What do you mean, I can--"
"Just go with it," Ashido whispered and gave her a quick wink.
"I don't mind," Midoriya responded as he grabbed one of her shoes.
Ashido and Yaoyorozu stepped away as he gently placed her foot in her shoe. She felt a subtle blush form around her cheeks, but didn't seem to notice. His hands were so firm and made sure to not pinch her skin on any of the straps. She never thought in a million years Midoriya would ever do anything like this for her.
Once he was done, he gave her a shining smile. It gave her confidence once again.
"Come on. Everyone's waiting."
He reached his hand out to help her up and sparks flew. The crowd cheering for Class 1-B's performance faded, and the sound of her heartbeat picked up. Something about the lighting and angle made him look even more handsome.
She accepted his hand, and they made their way over to the dance floor.
Hand in hand.
"For the final performance of the night, I give you tonight's heroes, Class 1-A's: Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka!" Present Mic announced, looking just as excited as everyone else.
The audience cheered as the two of them stood in the middle of the dance floor, elegantly holding each other close. There was no going back now.
"Izuku?"
"Yeah?"
"After what happened, I'm a little nervous..."
"I am too."
"You are?"
"Yeah."
A deep sigh escaped her lips, and she relaxed her shoulders.
"Okay, I'm ready."
A subtle smile formed on his face as the music gently played and echoed through the building. A single soft, pale blue light shined down on them, letting them know all eyes were on them. Smoke swirled around them, making them feel a little lighter on their feet. A solemn piano ballad played for a moment and soon they were swaying to the lyrics of the song in perfect sync.
Uraraka couldn't help but feel safe in his arms, and that helped her get into the mood of the music.
You're in my arms, and all the world is calm. The music playing on for only two...
They held each other close, but soon unfolded and slowly twirled out of each other's embrace. One hand each still holding the other gently as they eventually found their way back.
With everything put together, Midoriya felt himself get more into the rhythm. He danced with her before, but he couldn't even compare it to this.
...So close... together, and when I'm with you. So close... to feeling alive...
Midoriya twirled her like a ballerina under his arm and let her come back to him ever so softly. And soon after that, he dipped her and made sure not to drop her. Even if he was nervous, he would never let that happen. A memory of when they first met came into his mind and tightened his grip.
Never.
Uraraka felt so safe in his arms and trusted him completely as he led the dance. She hadn't even used her quirk and yet, it felt as though she had accidentally used it on herself. She always knew Midoriya was strong, but she was seeing a completely different side to him.
...A life goes by. Romantic dreams must die. So I bid mine goodbye and never knew...
The music picked up a bit and their steps grew bigger. They started dancing around as if no one was watching and started to float bit by bit, but they just kept dancing. It looked like they were dancing on a cloud with the smoke moving along with them. Uraraka's dress made her look even more elegant as it seemed to have a mind of its own and danced along with them. Even if it was a bit torn from the fight, it didn't matter anymore.
Midoriya activated his quirk, sending out sparkling, electric energy around the two of them. It reminded Uraraka of when he caught her that day when they found out they'd be performing together. Somehow it looked softer against the spotlight. Feeling his energy encircling her helped her focus as she gazed into his emerald green eyes.
He's so handsome.
...So close... was waiting, waiting here with you...
As they danced to the rhythm of the song, they felt themselves getting lost in the music. Even Midoriya, who was a bit stiff when they first started, was getting the hang of it. He did dance during the School Festival, but this was completely different.
It was just him and her.
He forgot all about the people watching them perform and focused on the girl that's been with him since entering U.A.
No, even before that. When she stopped him from tripping over his own two feet.
A chuckling smile formed on his freckled face as he gazed at Uraraka's rosy face.
She's so beautiful...
...And now, forever I know... All that I wanted... to hold you... so close...
Midoriya lifted her up using his quirk while Uraraka used her quirk to lighten herself. As he let her back down, she slid back into his arms very smoothly and softly. Their faces were so close, they could see each other blushing. Uraraka didn't want to pull away, and Midoriya had never seen her look so angelic.
They swayed for a moment, listening to the lyrics and feeling more and more like it became a part of them. Then right on cue, Uraraka tried to separate from him, but Midoriya pulled her back towards him in a comforting embrace.
That just made Uraraka's heart swell with so much unrequited love. Even though this was rehearsed, it still caught her by surprise.
Wow...
...So close... to reaching that famous happy end. Almost... believing this one's not pretend...
They kept themselves in the air for as long as they could. Midoriya held her so close that the song was basically yelling what he was thinking. His quirk was sparkling underneath the spotlight, even making Uraraka look even elegant than before.
Uraraka smiled gently as they soared through the smoke. Her dress swirled, moving them through the music rather fluently. She could feel her face warm up, but it felt less embarrassing and more exciting.
She felt herself reach for his face, caressing him. A funny memory of her slapping him during the Entrance Exam came back to her, and she let out a chuckle.
Midoriya didn't know what she was laughing at, but he knew whatever it was, was something he cherished.
He smiled back at her so sweetly.
Izuku...
Ochaco...
...And now you're... beside me and look how far we've come... So far... We are... So close...
The lyrics were starting to get through to them, and they could both see it so clearly. Uraraka felt herself start to tear up, realizing what she was feeling.
Izuku... I never told you how I really feel about you... Even after what happened... I...
Midoriya could tell Uraraka was lost in thought, so he lifted her chin subtly. Her caramel brown eyes glistened in the spotlight, and he gave her a comforting smile that told her everything she needed in that moment.
I'm right here.
They both smiled. Their foreheads touched as the spotlight brightened up ever so subtly.
The male singer faded into the music, and the sweeping instruments took over the entire stage. Snow, to everyone's amazement, began to fall delicately onto the dance floor. Midoriya and Uraraka looked like they were in their own fantasy world as they twirled and spun around each other. With each step they took, they couldn't help but think back to all the moments they've spent together up until now. Their smiles grew wider and wider, looking like they were just enjoying each other's company rather than performing for everyone. Soon they were starting to float above the dance floor. Not even the smoke dancing around the floor could reach them.
It felt never ending. They both wished this could last forever.
But, they also thought about what happened earlier. What almost happened.
They looked into each other's eyes once more and saw right through them.
I'm sorry...
"I got you," Midoriya whispered as they prepared for the big finish.
Uraraka settled into his embrace, her back against his chest. She took a deep breath and let go of her thoughts and feelings in that moment.
But... I don't want to...
...Oh how could I face the faceless days, if I should lose you now...
They swayed to the slow, solemn music and let the music speak for itself. Then Midoriya twirled her delicately. They held onto one another until their cue came. She twirled once more, but at the last moment, their hands slipped.
Everyone watching couldn't look away. They thought if they looked away, they'd miss something special. Even the teachers couldn't believe what they were watching. Ashido, Jirou and all of their classmates couldn't look away.
Uraraka felt her own heart stop beating as the singer held the note for a few seconds. Their arms were reaching out, unable to touch. She was floating up and away from him as Midoriya felt himself distance from her.
No... I don't like this...
Uraraka didn't like this feeling. She saw Midoriya, slowly drifting away from her, and it made her stomach queasy. Her quirk was not causing it this time around. Looking into his eyes, she noticed that he had the same expression that she was feeling.
Release!
...We're so close... to reaching that famous happy end. Almost... believing this one's not pretend...
She released her quirk on herself and successfully kept Midoriya afloat. Everything felt like it was in slow motion as she watched Midoriya activating his quirk. Green, electric energy danced around him as he reached for her. So much relief hit her as she landed into his arms.
There were some gasps in the audience, but it didn't even phase them.
They slowly twirled around with Uraraka in Midoriya's arms, bridal style. The snow falling around them sparkled underneath the spotlight, making them look even more graceful. It didn't even feel like they were performing anymore. Something about this moment in the air just brought everything full circle. They couldn't look away. Eventually Midoriya landed on the floor, very light on his feet.
He let Uraraka down gracefully and flowed back into the dance. Her emotions were starting to get to her, but she didn't know why.
No, she knew why.
...Let's go! On dreaming...
She threw herself onto him as the music got a little aggressive for a moment. They spun around each other, knowing they were getting close to the end of the performance.
Both of them were thinking that they didn't want this to end. Their vision began to blur, thinking they might cry.
...For we know we are...
One last, graceful twirl, and they embraced again. Touching foreheads, there was no where else they would rather be than right here.
With the person they cared about the most.
I don't want to let go... ever again... They both thought, tightening their grip onto each other's hands.
...So close...
They separated from each other, with one hand each still holding on. And then gracefully found one another.
Izuku...
Ochaco...
...So close... And still... So far...
The last line sung lingered into the solemn music. They separated again, but this time, their hands slipped and walked away from their partner.
Uraraka hadn't even realized tears rolling down her face until the last couple notes were played. Without thinking, she turned back around and saw Midoriya doing the same thing.
"Ochaco..."
"Izuku..."
She barely even noticed he'd been doing the same thing, and they quickly ran into one another's embrace.
"I love you, Izuku..."
Their faces met, everything becoming clear in an instant.
"I love you too, Ochaco..."
They moved closer until they kissed.
The audience cheered and whistled, causing the two dancers to look around in amazement. Some were crying at how beautiful it was, the performance and the kiss. A lot of classmates outside of Class 1-B actually thought the kiss was part of the performance and were impressed.
Ashido was in tears, knowing the kiss wasn't part of the performance, and Kirishima gave her a tissue. He also looked like he was trying to fight back tears.
"That was beautiful!" Iida cried with a wide and exaggerated cheer.
Yaoyorozu stood there, so proud of them and felt the same way as him.
Even Jirou and Kaminari held each other's hands, surprised at how well this dance turned out.
AllMight couldn't be more proud for both of them as tears formed under his eyes.
"Ah, young love," Midnight commented next to him.
Mr. Aizawa was actually surprised at how well everything came together. He was very impressed that he gave them a subtle smile.
Class 1-B couldn't even deny that it was mesmerizing.
They didn't even jump out of each other's embrace. Instead, they laughed and gave everyone a respectful bow. Uraraka expected Midoriya to let go of her hand, but he never did.
So much weight was lifted off her shoulders, and she leaned into his strong, comforting arm. They both walked over to their class in open arms. There were a lot of hugs and congratulating going on that it made Uraraka and Midoriya feel that much more grateful for being a part of Class 1-A.
"Class 1-A everybody! What a way to end the night!" Present Mic commented, wiping away a couple tears, "Thank you everyone for your amazing performances! All of you went beyond our expectations! Have a good night! Let me hear you say it, Go Beyond!..."
"Plus Ultra!"
Sorry, it's been awhile. But here it is!
The performance finally happened, and they kissed! Uraraka finally told him! IzuOcha forever! :)
Did anyone get the song right? It's one of my favorite songs from, Enchanted. It's the song they dance to towards the end, which I think is an underrated scene and song.
It was difficult to figure out how I wanted to write it out along with the song, but it turned out pretty good.
The epilogue is next! Coming soon!
