Chapter 1 - Where's Helen?
It's the 5th of August 2008, everyone at the Sanctuary were busy doing work. Will and Ashley were called in to track down an abnormal loose in the streets of Old City, they had to try and contain it before it did too much damage. Meanwhile back at the Sanctuary Magnus was in her office completing some paperwork that needed to be done, she was halfway through filling out a form when her phone starts to ring. Helen quickly picks it up thinking that it was Ashley calling in for some extra help but she was mistaken.
"Hello" she answers, not recognising the number.
"I know the truth Helen." said the person on the other end of the call.
As soon as she heard his voice she went into shock and utter disbelief, she remembers his voice so clearly from the last time they had met almost 28 years ago. When he mentions that he knows the truth she starts to panic, he could only mean one thing and that is the secret she has been keeping hidden from everyone for the last 27 years.
"What do mean you know the truth?" Helen asks.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about." comes from the phone angrily.
"I can assure you I have no idea what you are talking about." she replies trying to hide that she is hoping that what she is hearing is incorrect and that she is just imagining that this phone call is not happening.
"Oh you know exactly what I'm talking about Helen don't you dare lie to me anymore than you have. I called you to tell you to check your emails for something I have sent through, If you dare try to lie to me anymore I will not give you a chance to make this right."
Helen quickly gets up and moves to her computer to open her email, and sure enough there is a new one that just arrived moments before her phone ringing. She opens it while holding her breath she really is hoping that this proves nothing, but unfortunately all her hope is lost as soon as the images have loaded on her screen.
"My God!" quietly comes from her mouth, But it is heard through the phone and the caller starts to laugh.
"My God, is quite correct Helen. Frankly it was what was going through my head when I came across this information." the caller said.
"Scott how the hell did you find out about this?" Helen asked.
"Well I was in Atlanta a few months ago and I came across this very familiar looking women, turns out she was not who I was thinking she was but from the looks of her I had to do some research."
"What do you want from me Scott?"
"If you want any chance of me not hurting this poor women, you will meet me and I will give you the chance to make this right. If not I will have to take matters into my own hands. I assure you Helen you do not want that, do you?"
"Ok fine, looks like I have no choice now do I? So where do I meet you?" She asked
"I will send you through the location after this call, you will have until tomorrow morning to meet me. Oh and do think to try and warn anyone about this, you know what I can do." With that the phone call disconnected, leaving Magnus very upset. This could not be happening not after all she had gone through to keep this hidden.
Not long after the call ended a message came through telling her where she needed to go. She needed to leave as soon as possible but first she had to get rid of all traces of the conversation that had just transpired, there was no way she was telling anyone about what was happening. If everything worked out she could come up with and excuse for her absence and no one would be the wiser of what was really going on. At her computer Magnus began the process of deleting the email and all signs that it was there, after completing that she headed for her room she needed to grab a few things she would need before heading out. With all that done she headed to the airport she needed to get to Atlanta.
About an hour and a half later Will and Ashley arrive back after completing their mission and safely capturing the abnormal, unfortunately their little adventure had to involve the sewers so they were both eager to get to a shower. They leave the new intake with Henry while they head up for a shower.
"Henry could you please process our new friend here please, I really do not like having to smell the the sewers any longer than I need to be." Ashley asked.
"Oh please do I don't think I could handle you smell any longer, that goes for you too Will."
"Hey, its not like we had any choice in the matter. If the creature goes down in the sewer we go down in the sewer." Will argued back.
"Look the sooner we finish talking the sooner we" Ashley said pointing at Will and herself "can get to clean up, and I'm sure mom is waiting for us to report back to her sooner regather than later.
"Ok Henry we will meet you in Magnus's Office in half an hour, alright?" Will asked Henry.
"Yeah all good dude" Henry said as he watched them both head off.
Will found Henry in Magnus's Office looking very concerned.
"What's going on, where's Magnus surely she she be here?" Will asked
"We don't know we just got here not that long ago and she wasn't here." Henry replied.
"Have you tried calling her, or even her radio? Where's Ash?"
"Already tried that, and I checked her room and the rooftop and she not there" Ashley said as she walked back into the office.
"Well she has to be here somewhere right, she wouldn't just leave without leaving us a message" Will asked.
"Henry can you trace her phone see if you can locate her? I'm getting a bad feeling somethings happen." Ashley asked Henry.
"You sure about that Ash, I don't think she would like us prying?"
"Yes I'm sure Henry, she would tell me if she needed to leave and do something. This isn't like her" Ashley was starting to get really worried.
"Ok but if this turns out to be nothing I'm blaming you" Henry said as he moved to the computer to track Magnus's phone.
"Yeah, Yeah what ever" She replied, her and Will following Henry.
"Anything?" Ashley asked, hoping for good news.
"No I can't track it it must be off" replied Henry.
"That's can't be right Henry, Magnus never has her phone off" Will said.
"No I've tried every way I know to try and connect to its location but no luck"
Now this made Ashley even more worried, her mom would never just disappear on her with no way of contacting her, something had to be really wrong.
"Henry can you bring up the security footage to when we were here before we went out on the mission, please?" Ashley asked Henry.
"Why do you want me to do that? Henry asked.
"Well that was the last place any of us saw her, right?"
"And you want Henry to follow her to she where she headed after that, don't you?" Will asked.
"Yes it not like we have any other clues as to where she went" Ashley yelled.
"Ok, Ok calm down Ash I will bring it up and we will find her" Henry said trying to calm down Ashley who was starting to get very agitated "Look here she is" Henry said to Ashley "Now I can follow her to see where she went" They all looked at the screen to see what happened.
But unfortunately 20 minutes had gone by and all that they had seen was that she had never left her office.
"Argh enough of this, Henry can you keep an eye on this and tell me if you find something? Will and I are going to have another look around and see if we can find anything." Ashley said getting annoyed they had found anything yet.
"Yeah, you got it Ash" Henry said as he watched her leave the room with Will following her.
After going through to footage a little more Henry finally come across what could give them some information on Magnus's whereabouts. He sees that she takes a phone call and moves to her computer before getting up and leaving the room. Before he follows her on the cameras he calls Will and Ashley back to the office to bring the up to speed as to what he has found.
When they arrive back into the office all three watch to see where Helen went after leaving her office earlier that day, they followed her to where she went into her bedroom and came back out with a bag containing who knows what. Then followed her out to the garage where she got into her car and left.
"Where is she going?" asked Will.
"I have no idea" Ashley said very confused as to what her mother was doing. "Henry can you go back to when she was on the phone."
"Why did you see something?" Henry asked.
"I'm not sure"
They look back at Helen on the phone, when Will spots something.
"Did you see that? Whoever was on that phone call had her check her computer, and whatever it was that she was looking at made her worried."
"Who would be sending her something that would create that reaction?" asked Henry.
"We need to know what she was looking at, Henry any chance you can find what it was?" Ashley needed to know she was getting beyond worried now, she just wished her mom had told them what was going on.
"I can try" Henry told her.
So while Henry was trying to find whatever is was that Magnus was looking at Ashley had begun pacing the room. Will was worried as well but for the life of him he couldn't think of anything that could possibly make his boss act like this. He couldn't stop himself from constantly asking Henry if he had found anything, which was making Henry very annoyed.
"I think I've got it!" exclaimed Henry. This got Will and Ashley's attention and they made their way around the computer.
"So Magnus received an email just prior to taking the call she was on, now she deleted it from the server so it made it very difficult to recover it." Henry explained.
"But you did recover it right?" Will asked.
"Yes I did, it loading up now."
As soon as the images appeared on the screen it all made sense to Ashley as to what had happened to her mom.
"OH MY GOD!" Ashley yelled.
This sudden outburst from Ashley puzzled both Henry and Will, as all they saw where some pictures of Magnus. How could that have any reason to get Helen and now Ashley so worried?
"Hey Ash, what's going on? Do you know why this would worry your mom?" Will had to ask as he still had no clue as to what he was looking at.
"Yes, No, well possibly. I know what these images could mean, but as to what brought them up I don't know." Ashley said while thinking.
"Do you know where Magnus could be now?" Henry asked.
"No clue she could be anywhere, but I do know of someone that would potentially be able to help."
"Well who?" questioned Will.
"We need to catch a flight, she wont talk about this over the phone"
"Ashley, who are you talking about? And where are we flying to?" Will was confused.
"Natalie, we need to go see Natalie. She will be able to help, she might be our only chance at finding mom."
