LEXI'S P.O.V.
"Savannah I just don't understand. You've been away from Charming since you were a teenager. Why do you want to come back now? I thought you liked living on the East Coast. I thought remaining in Boston was the best decision you could have made after graduating. Why now after ten years are you so insistent on coming back here?" I asked my daughter, over the phone, as I scrolled thru the emails on the computer screen in front of me. I was sure I could talk her out of returning to Charming, just as I had been doing off and on for the past four years.
My headstrong, brilliant, gifted daughter had attended boarding school since she was 13. She was so extremely smart that the schools in Charming had not been challenging enough for her. She graduated from high school at 16. She graduated from Boston College at 19 and from BC Law School at 21. She passed the Massachusetts Bar Exam at 22 and was a lawyer. A profession that was not sitting well with some members of the family because my girl decided to become a Prosecutor. That's why I was hell bent on her staying on the East Coast. The last thing I needed to worry about was Savannah having to engage in a legal battle against anyone in the family, which was bound to happen if she returned to Charming and continued her career path. As much as it hurt me, as much as I missed her, I knew I was doing what was best for all parties involved, especially for my daughter.
"Mom, Charming is my home. Charming is where my family is. It's where you, Daddy, Abel and Jack are. I miss you guys. I miss Uncle Opie and Aunt Soph. Plus Grandpa and Gemma. I'm ready to come home for good, not just a visit." she replied with a sigh. I could practically hear her rolling her eyes at me over the phone.
Over the years Jax and I would bring Savannah home over school breaks. Then during her college years we would take her on family vacations away from Charming as often as we could. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of girl trips with me, Savannah, Sophie and Ellie. Jax, becoming President of the Sons of Anarchy after my Dad stepped down, had responsibilities that wouldn't always allow him to get away from Charming for more than a day or two. And both of my sons, against my hopes, had followed in their Dad's footsteps and become members of SAMCRO.
"Savannah..." I started as there was a knock on my office door. My office was still on the third floor of Un-Southern Charm in Charming. We had expanded over the years and connected two more buildings on Main Street in Charming. Business was good and my children were healthy. For both, I would be eternally grateful. But the way that Savannah referred to my Mother-In-Law as "Gemma" and not "G-Ma" as she had her entire life made me wonder if there was another reason why Savannah wanted to return to Charming. Gemma could be a formidable ally or enemy and it didn't matter if you were blood or not – you didn't want to cross her. "Hold on, someone's at the door." I told her. I opened the door and stared into the blue eyes of my mini-me, my daughter's blue eyes, sparkling with laughter. "Hi Mom! Surprise!" she replied as she crossed the threshold.
SAVANNAH'S P.O.V.
"Savannah I just don't understand." I heard my Mother say to me. I pretty much blanked out the reasons she gave me as to why I shouldn't move back home...back to Charming. I muted the phone so she wouldn't hear me as I opened the office door down the hall from hers – my Aunt Sophie's office door. I had been planning this move back home for over a month. From the day that I found out I had passed the California Bar Exam. No one knew I had flown back to California to take the Bar Exam one weekend in June.
Only my Aunt Sophie, my Mom's cousin and my Dad's half-sister (was it any reason my family was so messed up), knew I was coming home, and I had sworn her to secrecy when it came to my plans. She hadn't been allowed to tell anyone including her husband, Opie, who happened to be my Dad's best friend. Uncle Opie hadn't known I was coming until I showed up on their doorstep 24 hours ago. And by the look on my Mom's face Sophie had stuck to her promise not to say a word.
"Hi Mom!" I said as I crossed the threshold and engulfed my Mom in a hug. "You could at least pretend you're happy to see me." I told her, laughing, as I took in the shocked look on her face. "Oh, Savvy, I am happy to see you my baby-girl. Never doubt that for a minute but this is such a shock. I never thought you were seriously going to move back to Charming. I had hoped you would never make this town your home once you left. I don't want you to have to deal with what it means to be a Teller in Charming." she told me.
A short time later I wondered thru my childhood home. My parents sprawling ranch-style home had been renovated to keep up with the times and was gorgeous as ever. My Mother had the best taste and my Father loved her enough to never say no to her. I smiled as I walked thru the kitchen and onto the back deck. The late-afternoon California sun felt good on my face. It had started to get cold in Boston before I left. A chill ran thru me as I thought not only about the Boston weather but one of the other reasons why this move had become necessary. "You should go see your Father and your Grandparents before they hear from someone else that you're home. I'm sure that they're all at TM." my Mom said softly, interrupting my thoughts. "Why don't you head down there now while I get dinner ready? Tell your brothers I expect them both here for dinner tonight." she continued, leaving my Dad out of the invitation making me wonder if he had been instructed to spend a few nights at the Clubhouse for one reason or another.
Twenty minutes later I pulled my black Audi Q8 SUV into the parking lot of Teller Morrow Automotive. The garage was still busy, which was a surprise considering it was after 4:00pm. Most of the time, if memory served me correct, most of the mechanics were always gone by 3:00pm. As I backed my car into a spot and got out someone, I didn't recognize, approached me.
OPIE'S P.O.V.
As I worked on my wife's car I kept my eyes towards the entrance of the TM. I was sure Savannah was going to show up today to see her Father, but I wasn't sure how pissed Jax was going to be when he found out I knew his baby girl was back in town and had driven back across the country without the protection of the club. Not only that but he wasn't going to be happy to know she spent the night at my house with me and Sophie instead of going home to her parents. That is a relationship that is going to take time to rebuild which is why Soph and I were shocked our niece had decided to move back to Charming. Shocked but happy. It would be good to have her home and I know my daughter, Ellie, had missed Savannah since she moved to Boston.
It was close to 4:15pm and we were getting ready to wrap up for the day when a black SUV with Massachusetts plates pull into the lot. Here we go I thought to myself, grabbing a rag to wipe the oil and grease off my hands.
I was about to walk over to my niece when I saw one of our newest members, someone who wasn't my favorite, because of who his father is, approach Savannah. Cris (Cristobal) was the son of the head of the Galindo Cartel and it had been determined the cartel would have a place in SAMCRO because of the help they provided after Lexi Teller had been attacked and assaulted many years ago. Jesus, the kids were just babies at that time. There was just something about him that I didn't trust, that Jax didn't trust either, but when you make a deal with the devil you need to pay – no matter the cost.
I knew there would be trouble if the three Teller men that were members of the SONS, saw Cris hitting on the SAMCRO Princess. Jesus, that would be that last thing I need. Jax, the current President of SAMCRO, had mellowed a little over the years but when it came to Savannah, his one and only daughter, everyone was off limits. There would never be a man who would be good enough for her. I felt the same about my Ellie. Thankfully she also had her brother, Kenny, to keep an eye on her. My son watched out for his sister as any big brother should, well when he wasn't busy with the sweetbutts and croweaters who hung around the Clubhouse, hoping one of the younger members would make them an Old Lady. Kenny, along with the Teller brothers, Abel and Jack or JT as he had come to be known, probably got more pussy than Jax ever did before he met Lexi. And that says something. The three of them had been inseparable since they were kids.
As I reached Savannah's car I heard her response to the crude invitation from Cris to join him in his room at the clubhouse. "Obviously you don't know who I am." Savannah said as she removed the hands of Cristobal Galindo from her hips. As the shadow of my 6'4 frame fell over them, Cris took a step back and Savannah grinned at me. "Hi, Uncle Ope." she said as she approached for a hug. "Savvy, I'm a mess. I don't want to get you dirty." I replied, side stepping her hug. "You don't want to have car grease and oil all over you when you see your Dad and brothers do you?" I asked, unable to help myself, running a hand over her red hair to mess it up a little. She hated when I did that. Always hated that since she was a kid.
"Come on, they're inside the clubhouse." I said, as I motioned her to walk next to me. I held the door to the clubhouse open and had a feeling that things were going to change. And I wasn't sure if it was a good change that was coming.
