A/n: Feel like we shouldn't to say this on this website, but I obviously don't own Pokémon. But god do I wish sometimes.

Entering route 101 San and I were happily strolling along. I was excited for my first real battle, and San was excited for his body to develop to the point where he could battle. As of today he only had three days left till he could battle without possible permanent harm to his body. We wandered through the wooded landscape that led northward, talking to a few other novice trainers and trying to train up Flare. So far we hadn't had much luck, I had a feeling that our first battle wasn't going to end well, especially as the one Pokémon I could battle with was weak to May's partner.
"Man," I grumbled to Flare, "all those Wurmple and you still haven't hit level 7!"
"There's no use worrying about it Bren. I'm sure it'll work out fine." Flare tried to reassure me.
"Yeah, but without you learning , I don't think we can win against May and Skipper. Especially since Skipper knows and you are a fire type."
"I suppose there is that." Flare sighed.
"Dad, Flare, with all due respect, you're worrying too much! Even if you lose, that just means you have more of a chance to figure out how May battles!" Sanguine pointed out.
"You're right Sanguine! We shouldn't be worried. Let's go, I'm itching for a battle!"
Sanguine, Flare, and I kept walking and talking on our way to Oldale. We battled a few more Wurmple on the way, and we were almost to Oldale Town. But of course, that's when things had to go sideways.
It was at this time that we were surrounded by three, slightly beat up looking, Poochyena and a very angry Mightyena.
"Uh… hi there. I don't suppose this is because of what happened yesterday is it?" I nervously chuckled.
"Silence human! You disrespected me and my cubs, even worse you deprived them of their first prey! You must pay for your actions!" The Mightyena snarled.
"Look, I'm sorry about that, but they were going after another human. It would have gotten your pack in a lot of trouble!" I tried to calm the Mightyena down, but to no avail.
Soon enough I was in the same position that Professor Birch was in yesterday. Stuck in a tree, with no hope of scarring off the Poochyena.
"Flare, Sanguine, I want you two to use and repeatedly on those Poochyena and Mightyena! I'm going to call for help" I explained, stressing how urgent this was.
As they set off about their task, I rushed to climb further up the tree, then started yelling for help. Eventually I finally saw someone running towards where my Pokémon and I were stranded.
I climbed down and waved the person over. They were wearing a blue apron, a white shirt, jeans and sneakers. They, or rather he, reminded me of one of the Pokémart Employees in Unova.
"You seem to be in quite a pickle kid! What'd you do to piss off these Poochyena and Mightyena!?"
"Saved somebody who was in the same situation yesterday! Pretty sure they want revenge!" I yelled back.
"No shit!" Literally everyone else present shouted, including my attackers.
"Alright kid, I think I can help you out," he started to root through the bag he had on his back. "Ah, here we go! Let's show these critters who's boss Trunks!"
The man sent out a Pokémon I instantly recognized, as my grandfather also had one, Donphan.
"Finally, I've been wanting a good battle!" The Donphan shouted.
"Use , but be careful not to uproot the tree!"
The tree started to shake violently as Donphan used . However, it seemed to stop as soon as it began.
"Well that was underwhelming." The man said.
"Good job on the and you two!" I said to my Pokémon.
"Yeah, no kidding!" The man said. "Why don't you head over to the Pokémon center? I've got a few calls to make, better get these Pokémon relocated before this happens again."
"Sounds good to me." I started to walk away, then turned around. "Hey, I'm Brendan, what's your name?"
"Oh? My name's Jeremy, nice to meet you kid. I work at Oldale's Pokémart, stop by and say hello later!
Oldale town. 10:30.
Leaving route 101, we walked into the downtown area of Oldale town. A grocery store and the Pokémon center stood not too far from the exit of route 101. Then there was a central courtyard, and beyond that was a small restaurant and a blue roofed building.
I strolled over to the Pokémon center and walked up to the counter. Behind it was a pink haired woman with a Chansey at her side. It was none other than nurse Joy. I was starting to give credence to the rumor that there was a nurse Joy in every Pokémon center across the world. Man that family tree must've been huge.
"Oh goodness! What happened to you?" Nurse Joy exclaimed.
"We were chased up a tree by a Mightyena and its cubs." Was my nonchalant response.
I held out the San and Flare's pokéballs and she snatched them out of my hand. She handed them to Chansey, who put them in a healing machine, then pulled me aside to look me over.
"Alright, everything looks good. You said you were being chased by a Mightyena? That Mightyena has been causing problems for a while now. Is someone making sure they're being relocated?"
"Yes miss, Jeremy from the Pokémart is." I explained.
"Well that's good." Chansey walked up with a tray holding my Pokémon and a medical report from the machine. "You have a leucistic Axew!?" Joy exclaimed in surprise.
"Yup," I said while releasing Sanguine. "Sanguine here was my first Pokémon!"
"That's right!" Sanguine chimed.
"Well you three are all ready to go. Just be careful and try to avoid wild Pokémon that are stronger than you." Nurse Joy warned.
"Ok Nurse Joy!" Sanguine and I chimed.
Walking out of the Pokémon center, I pulled out my Pokénav, and opened the map app. "Looks like route 103 is just north of here San" I said to my partner.
"What're you doing just standing there then huh!? Let's go!" My excitable Axew cheered.
Route 103. May 16, 11:15 am.
Finally we got to route 103, entering the route we saw May, who was maybe 100 yards away from the entrance.
"May, hey there!" I yelled as San and I ran up to her.
"Huh, oh Brendan, what are you doing out here?"
"Your dad asked me to come get you, he said you forgot your lunch at the lab." I explained.
"I knew I forgot something! Oh well, I just finished up here anyway, might as well head back." She sighed.
"Hey before we go, want to have a battle? Your father just finished registering Torchic as my Pokémon!"
"What about Sanguine?" She asked with a confused expression.
"San is still too young to battle, otherwise he would be battling." I explained.
"Stupid bones and stupid scales, just harden already!" Sanguine huffed.
May just chuckled. "Alright, a battle sounds great!"
We walked over to a clearing and May started to list the rules for the battle. "One on one, first to faint loses. That sound good to you?"
"Sounds great!" I replied. "Let's send out our Pokémon!"
"Go Skipper, let's give our all!" May cheered
"You got this Flare, knock 'em out!" I cried.
'Torchic huh, if he's anything like dad said he would be, he's at least taught Torchic .' May thought.
Meanwhile I pulled up the Pokédex app and scanned Mudkip.
"Mudkip, the Mud Fish Pokémon. A water type. The fin on Mudkip's head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes. In water, Mudkip breathes using the gills on its cheeks. If it is faced with a tight situation in battle, this Pokémon will unleash its amazing power-it can crush rocks bigger than itself."
'Crap, even if I told Flare to kick dirt in Skipper's eyes, it could still sense where Flare was' I mentally groused.
"Ok, on the count of three the battle begins." May said. "1, 2, 3!"
As soon as May called three I made the first call. "Flare, Use !"
"Just like I thought!" May crowed in victory. "Skipper use !"
Flare was hit right in the face. In addition to taking super effective damage Flare would have lowered accuracy.
"Damn, then ! You're got this buddy!" I called out, desperately trying to salvage the situation.
The Missed, however Flare managed to get a critical hit in. "That's great Flare, keep it up, and avoid Skipper's mouth!"
Flare managed to avoid three more , and even got a non-critical off on Skipper, but things turned right around at the last second.
"Skipper use on the ground around you!" May yelled in confidence.
I didn't understand her strategy until it was too late. Flare slipped on the muddy ground, and it was all over with May's next command.
"Skipper, one last time!" May cheered.
Flare fell to the ground with swirls in his eyes. "Are you alright Flare!?" I exclaimed as I ran up to my partner.
"I'm ok Brendan, just a little bruised. By the way, you didn't happen to get the number of that truck that just hit me, did ya?"
All I could do was laugh at my partner's attitude.
"Good job Brendan, if I didn't pull off that trick with the terrain, Skipper would have been knocked out by Flare's next scratch!" May said, obviously trying to encourage me.
"It's alright May, you don't need to cheer me up. I knew I was going to lose." I explained. "With the limited move set I had, in addition to your having two super effective moves, I had little to no chance of winning."
"We still cool?" May asked.
"Yeah," I said, "still cool. Friends?" I asked with an outstretched hand.
May's eyes lit up. She gave a vigorous nod, then cheerfully replied, "Friends!"
We shook hands then visited Oldale's Pokémon center. After our Pokémon were healed, we left for the entrance of route 101.
"Race you to the lab!" May challenged.
"Oh you're on!" I smirked.
With that we took off towards Littleroot at high speed.
45 minutes later
"I, *huff, win, *huff*." I managed to exhale when I got to the lab just seconds before May.
"Yeah *wheeze* but, I regret *puff * running all the way from *gasp* Oldale." May moaned
We caught our breath, laughed till we couldn't breathe again, caught our breath one last time, then went into the break room to have lunch. I had an already packed lunch and May pulled hers out of the mini fridge. Soon after May and I sat down, Professor Birch sat down, and we began to talk about and laugh at the morning's shenanigans. After we were done eating, Eugene downloaded the DexNav app to May's and My Pokénavs. He also gave me some Pokéballs, and wished me luck.
May and I wished each other luck, and promised to catch up to the other on the road.
I left the building and went home, it was finally time to say goodbye to my mom.
"Stay safe out there honey, and please call me or your father every night." She asked me.
"Don't worry mom I will." I promised.
"Oh, I can't believe that my little baby is all grown up." My mom cooed.
"Mooom"
She just chuckled at my embarrassed expression. "Sanguine you take care of my boy ok?"
"Absolutely gran! Can't have dad doing stupid now can we?" Sanguine said whilst tugging at my hair.
"Ah, San, knock it off!" I groaned.
I gave my mom one last hug, then set off for route 101, once more. I turned around and gave her one last wave, then set off for my very own journey!
Aaaand cut! That's a wrap for this chapter. Wow, two chapters in one month! Im starting to improve. Anyways hope you readers enjoy this one, favorite, follow, review, all that good shit. Hope all you laddies, lassies, and Charming folks are happy and healthy! See y'all in the next one!
P.s. just as a lore explanation for this story, hatchling Pokémon are very weak and soft until they are two months old, thus they need to wait for their bones and skin to fully harden before they can begin to battle, otherwise they run the risk of something breaking and not healing and growing correctly. This is sort of similar to how humans have very soft bones when they're young. Pokémon just develop a little faster.
