BatWolf20: What, you mean like Man-Spider or something?
MawOfTheVoid: Thanks.
ForestFairyGunter: Hmm, true. But that's not to say Ryan couldn't make his own web fluid like Peter does. But do remember the spider that bit Ryan was experimented on with genetics and DNA of other creatures by Oscorp. Kinda like in the first Sam Raimi movie when it's explained that genetic information from three spiders were blended with fifteen genetically-designed super spiders. And since the Wolf-Spider that bit Ryan is part of the cross-Species progam, it's possible it has the DNA of different creatures to make it a super spider, like maybe the Grass Spider, which in the first Spider-Man movie was explained to have a 'spider sense'.
Nothingspecial43: While the idea sounds good, I have no intention on making Ryan weaker than Peter. Evenly match in terms of their strength, possibly.
willtemple34: Hmm, interesting ideas. Though what do you mean by a more developed and advanced spider sense?
MaxTheMagnificent24: Thanks.
Disclaimer: I do not own Spider-Man. I only own the OC Ryan Parker/Wolf-Spider.
Ryan groaned as his senses came back to him. He raised a hand to his head, which felt like it was pounding like a drum. 'Damn, what the hell happened?' He thought, waiting for the pounding in his head to clear. Last thing he remembered was a spider biting him on the hand, an incredible pain, and then darkness.
Grunting, he sat up, holding his head. Damn spider. It better had not been venomous. That would suck. He then remembered hearing his brother and Mary Jane's voices before he blacked out. 'Crap. They must be scared to death. Not to mention Aunt May and Uncle Ben if they were told. Better find them and let them know that I'm okay.' It was weird, other than the headache, he didn't feel any pain. Maybe an antidote?
As his senses awoke, he know realized his location. The white walls and medical equipment let him know he was in a hospital room. 'A hospital room.' Ryan thought. He winced as his muscles hurt and were stiff. He smacked his dry lips. God he was thirsty.
He remembered the spider bite and glanced at his left hand, where the spider had bit him. However, he found no bite mark at all. He just saw his skin. He frowned, and checked his other hand then his arms, so sure he had been bitten on the left hand by the spider. Had he been out long enough for it to fully heal and disappear? How long had he been unconscious? He dreaded the answer, especially if it was something like a few months.
Spider bites do disappear overtime eventually, right?
Just then, the door opened making him turn to it, and saw a young nurse walk in to do her checkup. Looking up, she stopped in her tracks when her eyes connected with him. The two stood silently, looking at one another. Blinking, Ryan cautiously raised a hand at her.
"Um...hi."
Gasping, the nurse dropped her clipboard and ran out the room, making Ryan sweatdrop. 'Was it something I said?
Minutes later, the nurse returned with a few doctors. Ryan tried to ask something, but was ignored as the doctors checked his vitals. They kept pocking him and flashing lights in his eyes. All in all, it was really annoying.
Luckily, the soon finished, and silently left the room. Raising a brow after then, he sat alone in confusion. 'What the hell was that all about?'
The door then opened again, making him dread another thorough check up, but smiled when he saw it was his Aunt May, Uncle Ben, as well as Peter and Mary Jane, the females having tears in their eyes as they looked at him.
"Hey guy." Ryan said, smiling at them. He then oofed when his aunt and best friend tackled him in a tight hug, making him groan. Though he softened when he heard them sobbing. He wrapped the two in an embrace. He smiled at his uncle and brother, who smiled happily at him, glad that he was okay as Ben ruffled his dark brown hair.
Once May and Mary Jane got a hold of themselves, they sat in chairs beside his bed, aunt May sitting on the bed beside him, holding him like a mother as she ran fingers through his hair.
"I can't believe you're awake!" Peter said with amazement. "The doctor said you should be out for another week, two at best, but the fact you've woken up only after five days... that's amazing!"
"Five days?" Ryan frowned. "That's how long I was out?"
"Yes." Mary Jane nodded, wiping away some tears. "During that time, your body twitched and spazzed like you were having a seizure. You started sweating at an alarming rate and your temperature was through the roof along with your blood pressure. Thankfully the doctors didn't detect any spider venom in you. On the fourth day everything started going back to normal, though it was speculated you'd be out for another week as the doctor said."
Ryan was silent as he took this information in. He was relived to know the spider wasn't venomous, but the fact that the bite had that kind of effect on his body and left him out for five days straight, with his body temperature going high along with his blood pressure, as well as making him have a seizure... that worried him. Wasn't it normally the venom of a spider that can cause such problems in the human body? Aren't spider bites without venom like getting bit or scratched by a dog that doesn't have rabies?
God, his brain hurts trying to make sense of it.
Looking at the side, he blinked when he saw a large assortment of gifts gathered at the front of the room. Aunt May saw where he was looking at and explained.
"Your friends from school always appear to wish you well." She said, making Ryan nod. He saw Get Well cards, balloons, even a giant teddy bear, much to his embarrassment, from Liz Allen as said in the card on it. To his surprise, he saw a gift basket, and from the card, it was for Flash.
'Awh! So the big idiot does care.' He thought humorously at the thought of his ex-friend and bully.
"You have everyone worried sick, Ryan." Ben said. When he and Mary got the call from the hospital about their nephew, they literally dropped what they were doing and rushed over. When they say Ryan in the hospital bed, twitching like crazy with doctors all around him struggling to hold him down, they feared the worse. It was bad enough they lost Richard and May, they didn't know if they could last losing one of the two boys they loved like their own son.
Ryan frowned and rubbed the back of his head. He didn't mean to worry his brother, aunt and uncle, especially his aunt may. Sure he didn't have much of a choice in getting bitten by a spider, but he hated worrying the people who practically raised him and his brother since they were children. "Sorry." He muttered.
May smiled at her nephew, glad he was okay. Tightening her hold in him, she placed a kiss on the top of his head. All that mattered was that he was okay. "When we get home I'll make you some oatmeal." She told him, making him nod.
Once Ryan was given a few more checkups from the doctor to make sure everything was working alright, he was free to leave. Other than a big appetite, Ryan felt good. Better even. He felt completely healthy and fit. Once he got home, Ryan ate three bowls of oatmeal and three pounds of meatloaf much to Peter, May and Ben's shock.
Even though he was given a clean bill, Aunt May forbid Ryan from going to school or his lab for the next few days. She would have made it a week, but Ben made her change her mind, plus Ryan wanted to go to the Genetics Laboratory with Peter next week, as it was better than having to be at school even if he had to put up with more science stuff as well as see more spiders.
That night, Ryan laid in his bed in his bedroom, unable to sleep yet as he stared up at the ceiling, listening to nothing but the silence that came over the neighbourhood aside from the crickets chirping and doing their calls in the night, the car passing down the street on the road, dogs barking, his brother snoring next door... wait, what?
Ryan sat up and looked at his wall, hearing his brother snoring clearly as if he was like two feet away. These walls weren't thin or light, usually you'd hear slightly muffled movement and sounds if it's loud enough and at times Ryan would be able to hear his brother's muffled movement... but it sounded clearer now.
Ugh, maybe I'm more tired than I think.' Ryan thought. With a sigh, he shook his head, turned over on his back, and decided to try and sleep while laying his arm over his eyes.
This headache was killing him.
"...clutching glizzies with the fellas…"
"Dude, my dog literally ate my homework…"
"That formula took me hours to derive..."
"Nah, I had to leave my car at home…"
"I let Keith cum inside of me last night…"
Ryan ground his teeth together as he walked down the hallway, trying to ignore the looks his schoolmates gave him ranging from surprised to sympathetic. It was hardly unexpected; the real surprise would have been if no-one knew what happened, but it didn't mean getting stared at didn't grate on him.
And it wasn't only the looks, it was just…everything. The voices around him had melded into a loud cacophony that made his head ache, he swore he could hear the bulbs in the overhead lights buzzing and very thud of a locker being closed sounded like a firecracker going near him.
Was was everything so loud?
Schools were normally loud when it comes to the students, but never this goddamn loud!
He had no idea why his hearing got so strong overnight, but he didn't like it one bit. His alarm going off next to his head had felt like he'd been stabbed in the ears, he could barely enjoy a shower because every spatter of water sounded loud. And don't even get him started on when he, Peter and MJ took the subway. That had been torture.
And this damn headache hadn't gone away either.
"Hey." Feeling a nudge, he looked to see Peter giving him a concerned look along with MJ. "You okay?"
Ryan gave a small, weak smile. "Never better, Pete." Seeing they still looked concerned, his smile grew stronger and he chuckled. "Just give me another day or two and I'll be as I was before I ended up in hospital. Trust me." He put his arms around their shoulders and pulled them close, causing them to chuckle before they started going off down the hall. "Now, about this damn trip today..."
Suddenly, Ryan felt a strange sensation. It felt like a buzz at the back of his head. Eyes widening, his body seemed to react before his brain did, and pulled Mary Jane and Peter down a bit with him, making then yelp in surprise. Over them, a football sailed over, and hit a teacher in the back of the head.
"AH!" The teacher shouted in surprise. Turning over as Ryan, Peter, and Mary Jane stood up, the latter two looking at Ryan in confusion. The three turned around as well, and saw Flash with his arm held out at them, a surprised look in his face.
"MR. THOMPSON!" The teacher shouted at the quarterback as he marched toward the blonde. While Flash was being scolded, Peter and Mary Jane looked at Ryan.
"Wow Ryan, nice move." Peter said, surprised at his brother's lucky move. Ryan just blinked, still surprised and confused at what just happened.
Mary Jane nodded. "Talk about luck. It's like you knew Flash was about to hit us. How'd you do that?" She asked the older Parker sibling. Ryan looked at her, eyes slightly wide.
"I...I don't know..." He muttered.
Deciding to put the strange event behind them, the three met up with Harry and went to class. Sitting in the class for nearly an hour, listening to the teacher drawn on, was a struggle not to fall asleep or get distracted easily. The only thing that probably piqued everyone's interest was that after this class, they'd be going to the genetics lab at the Columbia University.
However, for Ryan, it was much harder for him.
Leaning his head on his hand, Ryan groaned quietly as he massaged his aching head. It felt like an earthquake was rumbling in his skull. And was it just him, or was the teacher talking very load, even though he was in the back of the classroom? From where he was sitting, it was like the teacher was talking right next to him. Not only him...
Eye twitching, Ryan looked at the clock on the wall.
Tick-Tock!...Tick-Tock!
It was listening to a mega speaker!
Bzzzzz!
Eyes moving, he saw a fly flying at the corner, yet it was like it was buzzing right near his ear! What was happening? Blinking, he stared at the fly, which suddenly began moving in slow motion. His sight was also very strange, as from his place, his vision was similar to that of a magnifying glass, as to his sight, the fly enlarged in size! His eyes tracked the slow pattern of its flapping wings, the twitch of its legs, and the slow, echoing buzz.
Grunting, he grabbed his head it he was assaulted with another round of pain. His ears began having an agonizing ringing, very loud and painful in his ear drums.
Everything was so loud! The ticking of the cloud, the teacher's voice, the tapping of a student's pencil against her desk, and the screeching of the chalk against the board!
Gritting his teeth, Ryan tried to drown all the noise off. It was easier said than done.
"…yan...Ryan…Ryan!"
Eyes widening, the dark brown-haired young man shot his head up. All the noise just disappeared, just like that. Blinking, he looked up and saw the whole class looking at him. He saw Peter, Harry and Mary Jane looking at him in concern, Flash struggling to hold back his laughter, and the teacher looking at him in disappointment, with a bit of concern.
"Mr. Parker, while you may be one of the smartest students in school like your brother, it does not give you the right to daydream in class." The teacher scolded. Ryan chuckled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his head.
"Sorry, Mrs. Parkson. Um...may I be excused to the restroom for a bit? I need to clear my head a bit." He asked. The teacher nodded, knowing about the accident on last week's field trip.
"Okay. But if you're not feeling good, go to the nurse's office." She told him. Nodding, Ryan stood up, gave his brother and friends a soft smile, and left.
Walking the empty halls, Ryan massaged his temple. First he had a killer headache, next he had amazing reflexes as if knowing of something coming at him, and now he's apparently got enhanced hearing and eyesight, able to see a fly when it wasn't even close.
What was happening to him?
'Did... did that spider bite cause this?' Ryan thought, glancing at the hand the spider had bit, still stunned that there was no mark and it had only been a week since the trip to Oscorp where he was bitten, so there should be a spider bite mark still there... but there wasn't. Ryan sighed and leaned against the lockers. 'Maybe I should've just stayed home instead of thinking I could handle it. Least the headache's not as bad as it was the day I got out of hospital or as bad it had been the last couple of days since.'
Ryan inhaled then exhaled as he leaned against the lockers, just confused by everything he was experiencing. He turned to go to the restroom, maybe splash some water on his face, when he heard snickering and turned just in time to see a trio of punks pull the fire alarm.
BBBBBRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNG!
"GAH!" Ryan slapped his hands over his ears, gritting his teeth. This was just as bad as being on the subway train! He had to get out of here! He needed air! He needed to get away from that annoying alarm bell... and since the fire alarm has been pulled, students will have to go outside until the alarm is turned off. Quickly, he ran and barged out the doors, grunting when the sun hit him. He came to a halt slowly as the alarm wasn't affecting him as much out here, and he took deep breaths to start calming down now that he could hear...
HONK! HONK!
His head turning to the side, his eyes widened when he saw a car about to hit him! He barely registered a familiar tingling in his head from the shock, before again, his body acted subconsciously.
To Ryan, everything that happened next was like a blur. One seconds, he stared at the approaching cars, eyes wide like a dear. The next he took a step back and...
"What the hell?!" Ryan yelled in shock, looking after the car from where he was at. And where was he? Sticking against the wall of a building across the street "Wha da! How did I?! How di-WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!" Ryan shouted in fear, his mind and heart racing. To find yourself sticking to a wall like glue on his hands and feet wasn't normal!
Was he a mutant?! Was that how he was able to do this?! No, no! That can't be. Could it?
Maybe that spider bite did more than put him out for a few days...
Ryan couldn't stay at school after discovering he had some kind of superpowers, so he told the Principal that he wanted to go home as he didn't feel too good, that he came back a little early than he should've after getting out of the hospital. The Principal bought the excuse, and said she'd call his aunt and uncle but he declined, saying he could use the time to walk and hopefully feel a little bit better before he goes for the train back to Queens.
This is why Ryan was walking down the street, making his way to the subway to catch the next train to Queens. However, he also noticed another thing; he was being followed by a trio of thugs in hoodies.
'Of course. It's New York, everyone gets mugged nearly every minute in this city.' Ryan thought with an eyeroll as he increased his pace, hoping to get away from the thugs quickly but he could hear their footsteps like they were walking next to him, even though they were a few feet back. They were increasing their pace because he had done the same, which further confirmed they were looking to mug him.
He turned another corner, this time, in a direction opposite to his destination. He didn't know if he'd be able to lose them but he'd be damned if he led criminals to his house. He swiped through applications on his phone in an attempt to look oblivious as two footsteps became clearer, a sign that they'd turned the same corner.
When he tried to discreetly glance backwards and his eyes met one of theirs, he knew the gig was up. He broke into a sprint just as the two men ran towards him.
"Hey! Stop!" One of them yelled after him. He didn't listen. "I'll fucking shoot you!"
He responded by increasing his pace with the two men hot on his heels and rounding another corner, pushing the few people in his front away as he did. A part of him felt guilty about potentially throwing them in harm's way without a warning but he didn't need to worry because the yells didn't stop as the men ignored them in favour of chasing after him.
Amidst his mild panic, he still had enough thought to be surprised by how he'd been able to run for as long as he had without feeling the slightest bit of exhaustion. And it wasn't just his stamina, he knew he was running faster than he'd ever been able to, judging by the wide and steadily growing gap between him and the men even with the weight of his backpack slowing him.
At this rate, he'd be able to lose them. He rounded another corner and swore loudly just as he collided with a wall. He'd hit a dead end. He looked up. Save for the fire escape stairs, there was nothing he could even hope to climb up to.
"Motherfucker must be the road runner or some shit cause what the fuck?!" One of the men panted. He had slowed from exhaustion but the other still moved fast.
"Shut up. Guy said he saw him take a left, called that place a dead end and he ain't come out."
"A dead en-all the running and he wound up in some action movie type shit? I don't know about this no more, man. What if he's one of those mutant freaks? We get there and we won't see him anymore or worse, we see some freak who'll try to kill us?"
"Quit your bitchin'. Does he look like some freak? Nah, he's just our next victim to mug. Shame it's not a girl with a hot piece of ass like the one we had a piece off the other night." One of the thugs laughed.
Hearing that caused anger to flare in Ryan and his hands clenched into fists. These men... raped a woman and have the gall to laugh about it? How have the cops not arrested these scumbags? They should be in jail! Or worse.
"Swear to God, I'll stab this man like two, five times for making me run like this."
Ryan gulped, his anger evaporating quickly into fear at the threat on his life They sounded tired, maybe he'd still be able to make it out if he ran now... but could he take that risk? He wasn't really much of a fighter, hell he didn't even know how to fight! If he tried fighting them like some street brawler... he'd probably get his ass kicked and stabbed as threatened.
He glanced back at the entrance to the cut. They weren't close but they'd reach where he was in less than a minute.
Climb.
He blinked. "What?"
Up here. Climb. The command was repeated, but he didn't hear it. It sounded more like it had been said directly in his head than outside. He looked around, before he spotted a spider on part of a fire escape of the alleyway he was down in. The weird part is... the spider was looking directly at him.
He wanted to laugh. He was going crazy. First his hearing was better than ever, along with his sight, then he had amazing reflexes to catch something that he didn't even know was coming at him, then he finds himself sticking to a building... and now a spider was somehow talking to him in his head.
Put him in a mental asylum now.
No time, climb! The message came again, urgent and loud and he grit his teeth agitatedly.
"Climb what?" He glared at the spider but he didn't know why.
The spider crawled off it's web and onto the wall before twisting to look back at him. Ryan eyed the arachnid with surprise.
"You really are talking to me." He muttered. "You can understand me."
Climb!
A spider that talked in his mind wanted him to climb a wall like it had... and he had found himself sticking to the wall of a building earlier, so was it possible...?
He glanced down at his eyes, and like before his vision seemed to zoom in as he stared at his fingers. He gasped when he saw small hairs growing from his fingertips. Spider hair. Similar to the hairs on a spider's legs that helped them climb walls, he had them too! Narrowing his eyes, he turned to the wall. Looking down at his hands, he gently pressed his fingers on it. Giving a gentle tug, he felt a slight suction. Pressing his other hand, pulled himself up. He gasped when he began crawling up the wall like a spider! He was actually defying gravity hand his weight and climbing up the vertical surface with just his hands and feet!
Overcome with disbelief at what he was doing, he was compelled to keep climbing as per the spider's command to get him out of danger. In what felt like ten seconds, he found himself on the roof of the building just as the footsteps finally reached where he had once been.
"Fucking hell!" One screeched. "I told you! I fucking told you! We're fucked! That motherfucker's seen our faces!"
Ryan licked his lips nervously as he sat there on the ledge, looking at his hands. The voices of the arguing pair beneath him had faded to the background as what he'd just done settled in his mind.
He'd climbed up a wall. Just as a spider would.
He stiffened when he felt something crawling along his back and then onto his right arm which he lifted to see the spider that spoke to him was there, looking at him.
"Uh... thanks for the help." He said, a little stunned at what happened, as well as talking to the spider and thanking it. Who would've ever thought someone would thank a spider for something, much less talk to it?
Welcome.
"But... why?" Ryan asked with a frown. "Why did you help me?"
Smell like a fellow spider.
Ah, that explained it. Though don't spiders react in a hostile way to other spiders? Like if a Tarantula met a Black Widow, they'd fight, right? Ryan shook his head, choosing to not question it. After what he's been through today, trying to think realistically wasn't the best thing.
"So, you're saying I'm part spider?" Ryan asked.
Yes.
"Of course." He sighed heavily. He wanted to react more strongly but the majority of himself was dulled at the point he was. He wanted to deny the spider, but even he knew it wasn't lying.
The hearing, the sight, the speed, the stamina, even his sense of smell had heightened above human levels and if all that hadn't convinced him that something was different, the wall climbing couldn't be argued against.
He looked at the spider again. "How did this even happen?"
Bite.
It all made sense. That spider at Oscorp... it's bite had caused all of this to happen to him.
"Why me?" Ryan asked. "Why did I get bitten? Why did it choose me?"
The spider somehow shrugged in his mind. Don't know…help you learn.
Of course. He silently chuckled to himself at how his life had changed, and the discovery of said change.
All in all, he felt underwhelmed.
The spider noticed his amusement. Funny?
"I think you already know what it is," he answered. "If you told me a week ago that I'd go into a coma and end up talking to a spider on a rooftop I climbed up a wall to reach, I'd probably call the police on you."
He stretched his arms out. "But here I am."
Life.
"Yeah, life." He nodded and sighed again. "I'm so late it's not even funny. I don't want to think of this too much. How do I get down? I'll leave all this for tomorrow."
Swing.
It was only one word but he thought of a spider he'd seen oscillating off a web strand once and the implication made him pale. "You can't be serious."
Swing, the spider insisted.
"No." He shook his head. "Climbing walls? Okay. Olympic sprinting? No problem. But this?!" He pointed at the ground. "You're asking me to jump."
Swing.
"And do what?" Ryan wanted to yell. "Just go down headfirst and hope I shit out a web? Newsflash, humans don't have spinnerets."
Neither can they climb up walls, his subconscious reminded him.
He ground his teeth. "Can't I just climb down? You can't show me how to climb down instead?"
No. Swing.
He made a frustrated sound in the back of his throat and his phone began to ring. He fished it out of his pocket and glanced at the screen. It was Peter.
Without thinking, he picked the call and put the device to his ear. "Hey little brother."
"Where are you? You home yet?"
"Uh... waiting on the train right now." Ryan lied, then added a little bit of truth. "Got followed by some muggers, so I had to take a detour. I'm fine, no need for you, MJ and Harry to worry about me. Anyway, how's the genetics lab?"
"Well, we've just arrived. I'll tell you all about it when I get home. Was just calling to check on you."
Ryan smiled at that. "I'm fine, Pete, really. Just... need a couple more days to rest and cool off. Guess Aunt May was right in that I should've stayed home for a week at least."
"She always finds a way to be right about something." Peter chuckled in amusement.
"I know, tell me about it." Ryan said with a smile. "Anyway, I'll see you at home, right?"
"Okay bye."
Hanging up, Ryan stood up and inhaled as he looked down at the length between him and the ground below. It was pretty far down, and there wasn't much of a gap between this building and the other for descent swing... Oh God, he was really going to go through with this, wasn't he?
"I'm going to die." Ryan muttered to himself as he stood at the very edge of the roof of a building high enough for a fall from its top to be a guaranteed death and so, he avoided any high place he didn't have to go to.
Which was why even as he stood upright at the edge of the one he was currently on and didn't feel afraid, he was still surprised by his own courage. He wasn't even bothered by what would happen to him if he tipped over and fell.
"Okay, how do I do this?" He examined his wrists, specifically the small holes near his his palms that he'd never noticed up until the present moment.
Jump.
He blinked. "I was kidding back then, you know?"
The spider seemed to roll it's eyes. He couldn't blame it, he'd probably be tired of himself too if he was in its place.
Even after the call with Peter and him agreeing to try swinging home, it had taken minutes to convince him that he actually had the spinnerets in his wrists and not his posterior, something that brought him no small amount of relief.
And he'd be worried about people noticing them on his wrists but save for the holes that even he had difficulty finding, there was no indication that anything other than blood and sweat could leave them.
The spider had somehow given him a crash course on secreting and firing webs and while he could confidently say he could fire a web at will, creating a line, much less a calculated or single one, was a different matter, hence his hesitation. Math and Physics felt a lot more important now that his life would actually depend on them.
Jump, the spider repeated.
"I know, I know. Just…let me get ready." He huffed and bounced on his feet. "Alright, I'm going to do it." He jumped…
…and immediately regretted it when he began to plummet like a stone.
The ground approached him faster than he thought it would but while he knew he was falling fast, it felt like he still had enough time to hear the voice beckoning him to stretch an arm out and fire a web. Without thinking, he did.
With an almost whip-like sound, a line of webbing shot out of his wrist and latched onto a wall. He gripped the web tight with both hands but his downward journey continued. He yelled as he saw he was about to smack into another building, but on reflex perhaps, he shot his other hand out and fired another webline which he swung from.
Let go. The spider commanded.
As he swung up into the air, Ryan released the web he was holding onto and yelled in terror as he fell before shooting another webline out quickly and swung on that, the wind rushing in his air and against his face.
The initial fear of falling was gone and in it's place was a rising sense of exhilaration. Ryan found himself whooping excitedly as he swung across the block, his moves sloppy but enthusiastic. The spider's disappearance wasn't of any concern to him, he knew he'd be seeing it again.
He grinned widely as he swung around the same corner he'd taken before colliding with the building. Having nearly made that mistake, he was quick to cling onto the wall before pushing himself off with his feet. The force sent him flying farther than he thought and he found himself sailing above and across the wide road dividing his street from the other.
Just as he began to lose altitude, he shot out another web, this time using only one hand and spun around the twisting strand as he drew closer to the ground. Down, then up. Down, then up. Wind in his face, nothing underneath him.
He took it back, spider powers weren't underwhelming!
He swung haphazardly, yet enthusiastically up until the buildings were no longer tall enough to use before rounding a corner and purposely swinging low to touch the ground. He underestimated his speed and as soon as his feet touched the ground and he let go of the webs, he tripped on his feet and fell face first onto the deserted pavement.
They could be easier to control though.
And I think I'll end it there. This chapter was to show Ryan's powers coming out in noticeable ways. First, the headache was because of the spider sense developing and adapting in his brain. Then came the enhanced hearing, not Superman level, but spiders do have a very good sense of hearing so that's going to be the same with Ryan. Combine human hearing with that of a spider's, and you get something. There's also a sense of smell, but that'll show in the next chapter. There's also the advanced healing, since Ryan's spider bite disappeared in a few days. I wouldn't say his healing factor is like Wolverine's, it just takes time. Give about a few days and Ryan would be healed of his wounds... could be out more depending on how bad the injury is. I was going to go with the retractable claws, but decided not to.
In total, the powers that have shown through are spider sense, advanced healing, heightened and enhanced hearing and eyesight, the organic webs, the ability to communicate with spiders, clinging to walls, and good reflexes.
I was trying to think of ways for the powers to show themselves, and just started going with what popped into my head at the time.
So, I've been thinking that the wolf-spider that bit Ryan could've become a super spider that had the genetics of other spiders put into it as part of the Cross-Species program it was apart of. That was something that happened in the Sam Raimi movies, in which the spider that bit Peter was part of fifteen genetically-designed super spiders that had the traits of three different spiders combined into them, in which after Peter is bitten there's a computer screen that shows the spider and the abilities it possesses.
That's what I was trying to go for.
