Chapter 38

When Eren, Aya, and Katrina are back at Reiss Farm, Eren, and Aya find Queen Dina, Historia, and her husband, Carla, and Erich there. After hugging the two children, Dina says, "We've heard everything. So the Wall Titans have begun to march?"

"They've begun to march, but they have yet to start the assault." Eren says. "They are going to be the weapons for us to destroy the nations."

"And before it happens, we have Hizuru sending airships to save those who are innocent. We don't know how much time they need to take, but we just want to hope that there is no resistance and they are willing to cooperate." Aya says.

"And what about the military that was changed back from the Titans? What are you going to do with them?" Historia asks.

"It is simple. They can either join the new Eldia Military, or they'll have to resign and become a civilian instead." Aya says, "We're already going to kill a lot of people, so we're not going to kill the traitors."

At the Capital, Erwin, Levi, and Petra are standing in front of Pyxis and the other soldiers. Nile demands, "Erwin, what's the meaning of this? Disbanding the old military and forming a new one? Are you out of your mind?"

"This is the decision after the discussion of the new royal council. Most of you have drunk the wine with Zeke's Spinal Fluid, your ignorance is damaging the military and therefore it needs to be abandoned." Erwin says. "The Yeagerists are the military formed by the queen and the other royal titans to ensure the safety of people on the island, they work better than you, who only think of yourselves and try to sacrifice Eren and Aya's children."

"What do you mean sacrificing Eren and Aya's Children?" "Why would we do that?"

Pyxis says, "Please elaborate, Erwin. I am curious about what you mean by sacrificing Eren and Aya's Children?"

"It's simple. You forced the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers to give you the Titan Serum." Levi says. "You want to devour Eren so that the Founding Titan will be in your hands. However, the moment you kill Eren, my daughter will be killed as well. And the only Neumann blood are Erich and Carla. If someone who didn't have the Reiss blood inherits the Titan, they will only live for 13 years. And if they get in contact with Erich or Carla, you'll also doom them for living only 13 years."

Petra says, "If you think we're going to agree to this fucked up plan then you're mistaken. Besides, activating the Rumbling is a decision made 100 years ago, before the Titan powers are taken by Marley, the 10 Royal family members give up their humanity for the plan to succeed."

Erwin says, "However, the queen is nice enough to give you choices. You can either join the New Eldia Military as low-ranked members or leave the military. Those of you who want to give your hearts stay here, while for those who want to leave, the door is behind you."

Most of the Military Police and Garrison are leaving, however, Pyxis and Nile are still standing there, and Pyxis says, "If you're forming the new military, what are you going to do now?"

"First of all, we're waiting for Hizuru's signal. The other nations are planning to attack the island, even if we have a few number of soldiers and few technologies, we have the Rumbling to help us. The wall Titans are now waiting at the shores of Paradis Island. When 12 Titan shifters give their signals, they will march to the nation and destroy it permanently. We are not going to spare them like our ancestors did during those 2000 years." Erwin says.

"You can't be serious, Erwin..." Nile mutters.

"We are serious. If you can't take it, just go home and forget being in the new military. Everyone has devoted their hearts to this purpose." Erwin says.

Back in the Marley mainland, Annie's father has gathered the Eldians and yells at the police. "How many times do we have to tell you? The Rumbling has been activated! Eren Yeager is coming to take all of our lives! Your family, your wife's family, you'll all be crushed!"

"And I'm telling you that you've got no proof! You say you all had the same dream?! You want me to believe that nonsense and let you out? I bet you've all been plotting this together in order to escape, haven't you?"

"I'm certain that interned Eldians around the world are saying the same thing! How could we have plotted something like that?" Mr. Leonhart continues to beg.

"Oh, you tell me! That's it! I'm certain now that you're all guilty of conspiracy! We're rounding all of you up!"

Then the public security are aiming guns at them, but Annie's father remembers how Annie promised to come back to him, so he starts to take the guns and fight back.

After making sure that Historia, Erich, and Carla are okay, Eren and Aya are now with the other Titan shifters at Shiganshina. Eren is informing Commandant Shadis of the new Eldia Military and what's going on, and they wish him to join.

"As much as I want to, I have to decline." Shadis says, "I'm already too old and I don't have the energy in me to live out the rest of my years shitting outdoors on some lonely mountain. I know there is something special about your parents, and you as well. Just remember to not lose sight of yourself when the time comes."

Eren and the others can only give him a salute before they leave the old man alone, Katrina frowns, "I just hope that everything is going to get better..."

Eren says, "I know, all of us wish to, but this cruel world makes us that way and we have no other choice. If we don't use the Rumbling to wipe out the other nations, we're only repeating the last 2000 years of conflict surrounding the power."

Aya says, "If I'm being honest with you, I just want to stay at the farm, playing with Erich and Carla, spending time with you that isn't related to war. However, because of those nations, this is never going to happen."

Mikasa then slowly mutters, "What will Armin think when he sees this?"

Eren frowns and says, "Armin... if we revive him instead of Erwin, and now that he sees something like this... he will blame himself for coming back instead of Erwin."

Just then, they notice Gabi and Falco running in front of them, Sasha says, "Those kids, what are we going to do with them?"

"They're obviously going to search for the rest of the comrades that they have." Eren says. "Now that they don't have the Titan power, I doubt they're going to do anything to us.

While the Titans are marching, Pieck and Magath are watching them helplessly, their airships are also retreating as well.

"Judging by their direction and speed... the ships are withdrawing straight back to Marley." Pieck asks, "Could they have given up hope on our Marleyan forces making it back alive after seeing the Rumbling take place?"

"Well... it's the smart move. Now they can let the rest of the nations know about the situation. Far better than just waiting for those things to crush us all..." Magath replies.

"But in that case... there's nothing more we can do. How could we possibly stop them now?" Pieck asks.

"We can't. But we'll keep our pathetic struggle up until the end." Magath says.

"Commander Magath!" They notice Gabi and Falco rush over to them. Pieck asks, "Gabi? Falco? You two are still alive? Where are Reiner, Porco, or Colt?"

"Mr. Galliard and my brother are dead. They are trying to save me when I was transformed into a Titan..." Falco says. "But the moment when the Rumbling happened, I was also returned to normal..."

Gabi frowns, "I... I shot Aya Neumann... that's why the Rumbling has started... it was my fault..."

This causes the two of them to widen their eyes in shock. Magath gasps, "You shot Lady Neumann?"

"I know I shouldn't, but she is on Eren Yeager's side and she won't save the world... that's why..." Gabi mutters with a tear dropping from her eye.

"So this is where you are." They turn to see Annie dragging a broken Reiner. Pieck gasps, "Annie? You're still alive?"

"Thanks to you guys, I was abandoned in their prison cell for 4 years." Annie says. "But now that it doesn't matter, the world is going to be destroyed, and we have nothing but blame ourselves."

She throws Reiner to the ground and says, "When we lost Marcel that day, we were going to head back to Marley. This idiot here insists on provoking the Founding Titan because he just wants to be a hero. And thanks to him, Bertolt is gone, my power was taken away. I really want to kill him for what he's done to me... So what's the plan now?"

Magath says, "There is no plan except for fighting until the bitter end. The theories about the threat Paradis posed turn out to be true and the world is now about to be destroyed."

Gabi frowns, "Eren Yeager and Aya Neumann have said this... the history that Willy Tybur told us... they are only half true..."

As everyone looks at her, she says, "From the true memories of the other Titan shifters, the reason why the Eldia Empire killed so many people is because the other nations started it first..."

"Hey, Gabi..." Reiner tries to stop her from talking, but Gabi doesn't listen. "The nations want the power for themselves, that's why they attacked Eldia and caused so many deaths... They were the ones to push Eldia into doing the Rumbling..."

"Hey, Gabi..." Falco says.

"You all know the truth this whole time, don't you?" Gabi says to Annie, Pieck, and Reiner, who lower their heads. Annie is the first to say, "When we inherit the Titans, we saw the memories. Considering that we're all going to die from the Rumbling, I guess there's no reason for us to hide anymore."

"Indeed. The only reason we didn't tell the truth was to protect our families." Pieck says. "My father was sick, and I couldn't just reveal the whole truth so that my father would be killed in the end."

Magath frowns and says, "I see... so all this time we're in a false history..." The others look at Magath with surprise, "We were wrong this whole time. I carelessly spoke of what constitutes justice... when even now, I'm still struggling to justify our actions. I was afraid to look at it objectively and admit that Marley's actions, my own actions, and even the world's actions, were despicable."

"General Magath..." Reiner mutters.

"There's no reason for you all to shoulder the whole world's hatred. However, we do have a responsibility to never forget this bloodstained history of fools, and not pass it on to future generations. Eren Yeager and Aya Neumann want to erase them all... but we can't let that happen. If we keep looking away from the foolish mistakes of the past, this hell will never end." Magath says.

Falco says, "I want to try it again..."

Everyone looks at Falco, who continues, "I still want to talk to them. I want to persuade them to stop... Both Eren Yeager and Aya Neumann can be really nice... I want to negotiate with them..."

"Falco!" Then he rushes off, so the others decide to follow him, hoping that Aya Neumann and Eren Yeager are willing to talk.
