Hearing this she told him to tell her where he was, Nikola reluctantly told her. So after finding out where he was she set off to go find him, leaving Will to stay with Adam and see if he could get anything out of him. Nikola went to find Henry again to see if he had made any progress with the device Adam had, Natalie was still down in the lab running tests and trying to find a treatment for Adam's sickness.

Helen had arrived in Cambodia, she had been asking the locals if any of them had seen John by showing them his photograph. She had been having no luck when a girl came up to her, offering to tell her where the man she was looking for was, only if she gave her $100. Needing to know where he was, Helen agreed and gave the girl the money, the girl tried only to tell her the address, but Helen wouldn't accept this and told her to take her to him. Arriving at where John was staying,
"John..." Helen said as he entered the room
"Helen..." he replied but quickly collapsed.
"Oh, my God." Helen said catching John as he fell, she checked his pulse finding it racing "Oh, my God, your pulse."
"Tesla. Never trust a former vampire." He said realising who had given his location away.
"I coerced him. Hold still."
"The more I feel..."
"What have you taken?"
"Oh, a little of this, and a little of that. Local fare to kill the soul."
"Here." She tells him as she injects something to help him.
"Why?" Druitt asks her.
"Adam Worth. He's alive." She informs him.
"Oh, no, no, no, no. It's impossible."
"Yes, I thought so too." She says as he loses consciousness. She stayed with him that night knowing it was to late to try and travel with him, she would organise that in the morning.
The following day Will, Nikola and Henry joined Natalie in the lab, Nikola had been telling them of the time the five had been recruited by the prime minister to help stop Adam and his attack on London.
"...and seeing as Londonwas a little more interesting than Budapest at the time..." Nikola was saying
"You all volunteered to stop him," Will asked.
"Something like that," Nikola says.
"Man, that is so James Bond. Except it's before there was a James Bond, so it's... cooler." Henry says intrigued by the story Nikola had told them.
"Damn," Natalie says, having run some new tests while they were talking.
"What's up?" Will and Nikola ask.
"Uh, I'm just going over the latest blood tests from Adam," Natalie informs them.
"Please tell me he's dying," Nikola says
"He is. Even with my treatments, his organs are continuing to deteriorate."
"Oh, I was wrong, there is a God," Nikola said, glad to hear he wasn't responding to the treatment.
"But that's not the worst of it. I cross-referenced his bloodwork with another set of samples." Natalie said while she brought up the image she was referring to on the monitors, showing them that the person these samples were from had to be suffering the same effects as Adam.
Helen returns to the Sanctuary later that day with John.
"John's in the infirmary. I've told Henry to activate the EM Shield again." Helen says as she arrives in the lab to see what was going on.
"And the gang's all here," Nikola says.
"So, what have you found?" She asks them, Natalie points for her to look at the monitor.
"Oh, damn. The platelets are continuing to group. At this rate, he'll experience complete organ failure and be dead within a matter of weeks."
"That's not Adam's blood," Nikola informs her.
"What?" She asks looking to Natalie to explain.
"It's yours, Mom," Natalie told her. Nikola and Henry excused themselves to get back to studying Adam's device, leaving Magnus, Natalie and Will in the lab. After giving Helen the chance to look through Natalie's results, Will asks her,
"There has to be something. Drugs that manage the effects of chemotherapy. Anti-radiation treatments."
"I doubt any conventional approach would work. This wasn't a normal dose of radiation, Will. It was something the human body was never meant to be exposed to. Moving through dimensions of time and space... It sounds so ridiculous when I say it out loud." Magnus told him.
"And yet it's killing you," Will says.
"Poison's a poison." She replies.
"Then we'll find the antidote. We will whip Tesla like a rented mule until he makes a breakthrough. I'm sure Natalie here also isn't going to give up that easily either." He said looking at Natalie to confirm his thought.
"I like the whipping Tesla idea. Oh, dear." Helen said as she suddenly got light headed.
"Hey..." Will said as he rushed to her side.
"No, I'm all right. I just, uh, I haven't eaten in while. So, what have you learned about Adam?" She tells him.
"No, no, no, you're exhausted. This can wait." He tells her, not liking what she had said, neither did Natalie, who was now on her feet coming around the desk to speak to her mother.
"We both know it can't," Helen says.
"No, Will is right, Mom, now we are going up to the kitchen, and you are going to eat something. Once you have done that, we can discuss Adam then, but until then, no Adam talk." Natalie told her mother, not leaving any room for her to argue. Knowing her daughter would not give in, she made her way to the kitchen with Natalie following close behind her. As they left, Natalie told Will they would come to find him after she had eaten.
True to her word Natalie allowed Helen to find Will to get the information she wanted,
"He's a textbook Dissociative. Obviously, there are two distinct personalities wrestling for control." He explains to her.
"The bully and the victim, all in one neat package." She says
"Yeah. My sense is that it's from sustained post-traumatic stress resulting from... the loss of his daughter."
"Which he blames me for," Helen says
"You and Watson. He says that you both refused to help."
"Of course he does." She says as she begins to explain what had happened with his daughter.
"We battled until the very end. We tried everything….The loss of a daughter, it's a wound that never heals."
"I think he's handling it differently than you," Will says.
"Do you believe there are other reasons for his madness?" Helen asks.
"His paranoid rage stemming from... his belief that you tracked and murdered him." He tells her.
"Are you asking if we hunted him down? Yes. Absolutely we did." She then tells him the story of what the Prime Minister had asked of them back then and how they had agreed and hunted Adam down. Will didn't like hearing this, as he had told her when he started working there that he wanted no secrets, and this one was big. They started arguing when all of a sudden, Magnus started coughing, showing that the effects of the sickness were getting to her. She quickly stormed off, not liking Will's argument, just as he was about to follow her and apologise, Nikola and Natalie came in. Nikola told him to leave her as he should never follow an angry woman, especially if your the reason for that anger, Natalie agreed, telling him just to give her time, she wasn't exactly herself. She then told him how her sickness had spread, showing him the results of the latest tests she had run, he told her she needed to tell her mother. Natalie told him she would as soon as she had calmed down, and with that, she left to find Helen to make sure she was ok. Will turned to Nikola, telling him they needed to find an antidote quickly.
After leaving Will, Helen made her way to check on John, she needed answers. Ones that only he could give, she arrived in the infirmary and asked him to explain, which he did. He told her what had happened that day and how he truly believed that Adam was dead. After hearing John's side of the story, she now needed Adam to piece the last pieces together. As soon as she walked into his cell, Adam questioned how she was feeling, knowing what she should be going through at that point. He answered her questions about what had happened after John let him go in the river, he explained that he was fished out of the river and taken to the city and revived. Now having the answers she needed she pleaded to him to help her help him, asking how they get to the city, he told her that to do that she needed to show him the map. She disagreed, so she left and made her way to her office, where Natalie found her. Natalie showed her the test results telling her they needed to do something and soon, they were running out of time. Then she asked her mother what she had found out from John and Adam, Helen told her all they had told her and how Adam was adamant that the only way he could help them was for them to show him the map. Hearing this, Natalie decides they need to have a team meeting to try and work out a solution together and having now recovered himself, Druitt joins them. Helen tells them what she had told Natalie about Adam's offer but also tells them she wasn't going to allow it, not on her watch.
"Oh, about that…" Nikola says as he enters the room.
"Where have you been?" Helen asks him.
"Huh? In the library, boning up on the Sanctuary Charter." He explained
"Helpful," Will stated, not seeing as to how this had anything to do with the current situation.
"Wait for it, sonny." He pauses as he walks over to Will and hands him what he had found, before continuing his explanation, "Apparently, if the Sanctuary head becomes physically or psychologically compromised, the second in command takes over." Hearing this caught everyone's attention.
"Dude, that is beyond cold." Henry is the one to point out, not liking where this is going.
"Nikola…" Helen questions.
"Where are you going with this?" Druitt also asks.
"Officially, it's not your watch anymore, and the question of whether or not we show Adam Worth the map is no longer your decision," Nikola explains before he looks over to Natalie, thinking that as she is Helen's daughter that it would mean she is second in command. "Over to you, Nat. What's it going to be?" He asks her, she pauses for a moment, still playing catch up on the new information. She had been aware of her mother's rule but had never thought anyone would ever use it against her, but Nikola was right it couldn't be her decision any longer Natalie looked to her mother and apologised.
"Sorry, but he is right, Mom. You did create that rule for situations like these." She paused as she looked around the room, shocked faces from Will and Henry as to how she didn't take her mother's side, she continued speaking, "But you are also wrong, Nikola, the decision doesn't fall to me." She said, now looking at Will with a look that told him it was his decision.
"Wait me? But I think everyone assumes that you would be second in charge just like how Ashley was." Will questioned.
"I know you all think that, but Mom did hire and train you to be the one to take over if anything were to happen. When I came back, Mom gave me the choice of being her second, but after meeting you, I knew she already had the best option in that position. So that leaves the question to you, what do we do now?" She told him.
Will had decided that showing Adam the map was the best option, so after retrieving him from his cell and showing him the map in the library they had a lead. This lead told them of the keystone they needed and where to find it, with this new information they took Adam back to his cell. Helen and Druitt were going to search for the keystone, Nikola tried to get them to allow him to join them but Helen explained how she needed him there, the map had been programmed to detect source blood so she could only assume the city had defences as well.
"Which means we'll need some kind of shield to get past it," Druitt said, understanding what Helen was getting at.
"And you're the only one who can build it," Helen told Nikola.
"I'm the only one who can test it, you mean. Fine. Fine, go to... Khosol. I'll stay here. Bring me back some Mongolian wine. On second thought, don't." Nikola said defeated that he in fact was needed to stay.
"And if you need a hand, you can ask Natalie, she can help," Helen said, hopping in the elevator, receiving confused looks from Nikola and Druitt.
"Natalie? Oh please, I'm sure she wouldn't be able to help." Nikola said, still thinking Natalie wasn't as brilliant as she was, Helen, didn't reply she just gave him a look that was wrong. She then made her way to her bedroom to get ready for their trip.
"Why are you going?" Will ask Magnus as he found her on her way to meet John.
"What do you mean?" She says.
"What do you mean, what do I mean? You're sick. You should be resting."
"I can stave off the effects, antibiotics, biphosphonate…"
"Let's just send Druitt alone."
"He's barely lucid, and it's John."
"All the more reason not to hitch a ride."
"I appreciate your concern, Will, I really do, but if I'm the reason that we're doing this, then I'm the one who should be going. Either way…"
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"Me too."
"Are you sure you're gonna be okay?"
"Absolutely. You?" She asks with a knowing glance as to what he was about to deal with.
"What, running this place? It's a piece of cake." He said, not quite understanding how much work she actually does. He let her go and made his way to his office to get started on the work he now needed to do.
