Coumarine City
On Route 12, Rolf is currently facing a man, ready to begin a Pokemon battle. Rolf pulls out a pokeball, while the man pulls out a Net Ball.
"Let's show this kid whose boss, Pinsir." said the man as he throws his pokeball, releasing a large, brown Pokemon that had a spiky pincer on its head.
"What's that Pokemon?" asked Nazz. Kevin takes out the pokedex, and points it at the Pokemon.
"Pinsir, the Stagbeetle Pokemon. It swings its long pincer horns wildly to attack. During cold periods, it hides deep in forests." said the pokedex.
"Pidgeotto; Rolf chooses you." said Rolf as he throws his pokeball, releasing his Pidgeotto. "Use Quick Attack!" Pidgeotto flies at the Pinsir with fast speed, and slams into it.
"Pinsir, use Vice Grip!" said the man. Pinsir runs at Pidgeotto, and uses its head pincer to grab Pidgeotto and squeeze him.
"Pidgeotto, use Gust!" said Rolf. Pidgeotto manages to get free of Pinsir's grip, and flaps her wings, releasing a large gust of wind which hits the Pinsir, doing super effective damage.
"Pinsir, use Revenge!" said the man. Pinsir releases a blast of orange energy from its body, hurting Pidgeotto.
"Pidgeotto, use Twister!" said Rolf. Pidgeotto flaps her wings again, this time releasing a glowing blue tornado which hits the Pinsir, damaging it, and making it flinch. "Now use Tackle!" Pidgeotto flies at the Pinsir, and slams into it, knocking it to the ground, unconscious.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Kevin.
"Right on!" said Jonny. The man slumps as he returns his Pinsir to its pokeball. He then walks over to Rolf, and hands him pokedollars.
"Good battle, kid." said the man.
"Yes; thank you." replied Rolf. After Rolf returns PIdgeotto to her pokeball, the group continued traveling up Route 12. Several minutes later, they arrived at Courmarine City.
"Here we are." said Jonny.
"Come on. Let's find the Pokemon Center and grab some grub before we take on the gym." said Kevin. The group walked on a pier, admiring the ocean view. As they passed by a booth, Nazz smells something.
"What smells so nice?" asked Nazz. She follows the scent to the booth which had what appeared to be several incense burners. "Excuse me, but what are these?"
"These, young lady, are several essences that can help certain Pokemon." said the man behind the booth. He picks up an essence with magenta markings. "This is a Rose Incense. This increases the grass type attacks of the Pokemon that is holding it."
"Awesome. I'll take one. It'll make my Floette's grass type attacks stronger." said Nazz.
"I'll take one too for my Quilladin." said Jonny.
"I'll take one for my Ivysaur." said Kevin.
"And Rolf would like one for his Skiddo." said Rolf.
"Very well." said the salesman. The group pays for the Rose Incenses.
"So, what else you got?" asked Nazz. The points at blue incense burners.
"These Sea and Wave Incenses can power up the water type moves of the Pokemon holding them." said the salesman.
"I'll take a Wave Incense." said Kevin.
"Rolf would like a Sea Incense." said Rolf.
"I'll take a Wave Incense, too." said Jonny. "I don't have a water Pokemon on me now, but I plan to catch one someday, so I don't see why I can't still buy one."
"I'll take a Sea Incense." said Nazz. The man gives Kevin and Jonny Wave Incenses and Rolf and Nazz Sea Incenses after they paid for them. "Anything else?" The man holds up a purple incense burner.
"This Odd Incense can power up a Pokemon's psychic attacks." said the salesman.
"I'll take one for my Kirlia." said Nazz. She then pays for the Odd Incense and recieves it from the salesman.
"Thank you for shopping here. Have a nice day." said the salesman.
"Thanks." said Nazz. Kevin gives his Ivysaur the Rose Incense and Frogadier the Wave Incense, Jonny gives Quilladin the Rose Incense Rolf gives Wartortle the Sea Incense and Skiddo the Rose Incense, and Nazz gives Floette the Rose Incense and Kirlia the Odd Incense. "These Incenses are so cool." The group then continues walking on the pier. As they do, Jonny looks at the sea.
"I wonder what kind of water Pokemon lives there." said Jonny.
"You interested in water Pokemon?" someone asked. Jonny looks to see a man in fishing attire.
"Well, I do want to find a water Pokemon for my team." replied Jonny. The man then looks at the fishing rod he is holding.
"I collect more Good Rods than I could use." said the man. "How about you take this Good Rod here. It'll help you catch a water Pokemon."
"You sure?" asked Jonny.
"Yes. I have plenty of these rods." said the man. Jonny looks at the rod before taking it.
"Thanks, mister." said Jonny.
"You're very welcome." said the man.
"Hey. Do you know where the gym is?" Nazz asked the man.
"It's on the other part of Coumarine City." replied the man. "You have to take the monorail if you want to get there, as well as a Pokemon Center."
"Take a train? Cool." said Kevin.
"So, where's the monorail?" asked Nazz. The man points at a small building with a monorail near it. "Oh. Thanks." The man nods in response. The group run to the monorail station. Once they arrived, they entered and to their surprise, they see Professor Sycamore talking to a woman with short, light brown hair, wearing a white shirt and shorts with gold trim under a white blazer, a white choker, and white high heel boots.
"Professor Sycamore?" said Jonny, getting Professor Sycamore and the woman's attention.
"Oh, hello, you four." said Professor Sycamore. He then sees the Mega Rings the four were wearing. "I see you have everything you need for Mega Evolution."
"Our Kanto Starters still need to evolve to their final forms for our Mega Stones to work." said Kevin.
"And my Kirlia also." said Nazz. The woman looks at Nazz.
"And most of all, you'll need a strong bond with your Pokemon to be able to Mega Evolve them." said Professor Sycamore.
"You got it, Professor." said Kevin.
"Since you're here, I have something for you." said Professor Sycamore. He reaches into a satchel and pulls out a Hidden Machine.
"A Hidden Machine." said Kevin.
"Yes. It contains the move, Fly." said Professor Sycamore. "With it, Pokemon that can learn the move will be able to fly you to places you've recently been to."
"Cool! So, when I'm ready to take on the Battle Chateau for my next ranking, I can just fly there instead of having to walk." said Nazz.
"But to able to use it, you'll need the badge from the gym here." said Professor Sycamore.
"Another reason to challenge the gym here." said Kevin.
"Who is this woman?" asked Rolf, pointing at the woman.
"Oh, my apologies. This is Diantha, the Kalos Region Champion." replied Professor Sycamore.
"Champion? Like Cynthia at the Sinnoh Region that the Eds told us about?" asked Kevin.
"Indeed." said the woman, now identified as Diantha.
"Anyway, I have to return to my lab. I hope you see you all again soon." said Professor Sycamore.
"See you, Professor." said Jonny. Professor Sycamore then leaves the station.
"Bonds...They really are important to us, aren't they?" said Diantha. "When I'm acting, I think I'm always trying to forge a bond between myself and the character I'm playing. If all I think about is how I'm nothing like a character, then I'll just hate playing it. But if I focus on what I have in common with the character and put myself in her shoes, I might be able to understand her. It's the same for people or Pokemon." She then sees the group looking at her. "Oh, don't mind me. I'm just babbling about my own things."
"It's cool." said Kevin. Diantha then turns and leaves the station. Kevin then sees Nazz looking at the door Diantha walked out of with a confused look on her face. "What's with you, Nazz?"
"Nothing, it's just that something about Diantha looked familiar." said Nazz.
"Like what?" asked Jonny.
"Never mind. Come on, let's get on the monorail." said Nazz.
"Yes. Rolf wishes to battle the gym." said Rolf.
"Me, too." said Jonny.
"We still need to get to the Pokemon Center so we can get our Pokemon treated." said Nazz.
"Yeah, I'm getting a little hungry. Let's have some lunch when we get there." said Kevin.
"Good idea." said Jonny. Several minutes later, the group were sitting inside the monorail going to where the gym and Pokemon Center are where they plan to face the gym leader to win their fourth badges.
