Harry,
I don't think I'll ever believe in coincidences again. Ellie seems to be so much like our Rose that there can be no doubt that she must be our Rosie. I will come to visit you during the Hogsmeade weekend. Make sure you don't get into any trouble, and of course, most importantly, I want to see Ellie for myself.
Dad
James was filled with anticipation for the Hogsmeade weekend. He had always hoped to find his daughter, and Ellie's appearance seemed more than just a coincidence.
The day of the Hogsmeade trip came faster than expected. James kept the news to himself, not wanting to give Lily false hope and avoid the potential pain if it turned out not to be Rose.
"Ellie Lynch," Remus mentioned the girl's name as they strolled across the school grounds. "Supposedly a Muggle-born witch. Her birthday is on August 15th, just like Rose."
"And the Sorting Hat really didn't make a mistake? There has never been a Potter in Hufflepuff so far," James said, not quite coming to terms with the fact that his daughter wasn't a Gryffindor and would never experience the common room where her parents had spent their youth.
"She fits quite well in Hufflepuff," Remus replied. "She's not afraid of hard work and is very helpful and loving girl."
"Ellie loves to read books," Harry added, who was also there. "And she loves learning and is quite good at Potions. I think she got that from Mum."
"Definitely," James agreed, smiling. "What about Quidditch?"
Both Remus and Harry shrugged. "I don't think Ellie has had any exposure to Quidditch yet," Remus doubted.
"No problem. I'll teach her," James grinned.
They continued to walk through the Hogwarts courtyard until Remus suddenly raised his finger and pointed to a trio of redheads. "There she is."
James almost held his breath. "She really does look like Lily back then," he confirmed, barely able to contain his excitement as he watched Ellie from a distance. The girl had a truly striking resemblance to Lily, both in appearance and in her demeanor. The shiny red hair and the radiant smile reminded him of past times when he and Lily were students at Hogwarts.
"Does she remember us?"
"James, she was one year old when she disappeared. She probably doesn't even know she's missing," Remus admitted sadly and encouraged his best friend, "You should go to her," placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder, "You've been waiting so long to find her. Now's your chance to get to know her."
James swallowed hard and nodded. He felt his heart beating faster with excitement as he slowly approached Ellie. Harry and Remus accompanied him.
At first, he observed the trio of redheads with a slightly amused smile. The Weasley twins, Fred and George, along with the little Ellie, seemed to get along really well. But when Remus and James approached and saw the Marauder's Map in Ellie's hands, he couldn't help but feel proud. The next generation was holding their map. Not just anyone, but his long-lost daughter was holding the Marauder's Map.
"What do you have there?" Remus asked curiously, examining the empty parchment in Ellie's hands.
"Nothing," Fred said.
"We're teaching Ellie some useful spells," George added.
Lupin took the map from them and examined it closely. "What exactly have you shown Ellie with an empty parchment?" he asked skeptically.
"Wingardium Leviosa," Ellie smiled. It was a white lie, but what else could you do with an empty parchment?
James now took the map from Remus. "Reveals, what's inside you," he said, not wanting to reveal that he knew the Marauder's Map. The names of the Marauders immediately appeared on the parchment with insulting phrases.
"Where did you get this parchment from? And don't you dare lie to me," James said, his eyes going from the twins to Ellie. The girl was very much like Lily, with her hair and facial features, but also with his mischievous streak and his eyes.
"Detention," Ellie replied, having recently spent a lot of time with the Weasley twins.
"With Filch," Fred added with a grin.
"We accidentally threw a color bomb into his office," George laughed.
"It looked so dreary in there, so we thought a little color wouldn't hurt," Ellie winked.
"And you found this empty parchment there?" James continued. The three nodded in agreement.
"Professor Lupin and... uh, whoever you are, don't take it personally what the map says about you. It insults everyone," Ellie explained, pointing to the insulting phrases on the map. James looked at Ellie almost sadly. She really seemed to have no idea who he was. Nevertheless, he was curious about her and found her carefree attitude refreshing.
"Adults," George added, winking at James.
"Yeah, it's not like it does anything else," Fred laughed.
"I'm James Potter," he introduced himself, shaking her hand. He had to restrain himself from pulling the child into a tight embrace. He would have liked to tell her the truth immediately, but he strongly doubted that Ellie would be ready to hear the truth. What if his girl was living with a happy family? He would turn her whole life upside down in a matter of seconds.
"Ellie Lynch," she replied, shaking his hand. She seemed friendly but also a bit mischievous. James couldn't help but look at Ellie more closely. She had the same sparkling brown eyes as him and a certain determination in her gaze that reminded him of his wife.
"No mischief, okay?" James said, deliberately handing the parchment back to Ellie.
"Crystal clear," the three assured with broad grins.
As he left the castle and returned to Hogsmeade, James couldn't stop thinking about Ellie. The hope of finding his daughter was burning inside him, and he couldn't wait to share the new revelation with his wife.
Potter Manor
"Dobby, how many times," sighed Lily, "You are a free elf. You don't have to cook or clean for us."
"Dobby wants to help. Dobby wants to assist Mrs. Potter. Mrs. Potter is very tired."
"It really isn't necessary, Dobby," Lily smiled at the house-elf. A healer at St. Mungo's had called in sick, so she had to take a double shift. Not to mention Charlie's muggel school problems and the countless complaints from teachers about his behavior. Charlie had brought home a letter from school, which requested medication to treat his diagnosed ADHD, but it was caused by underage magic use. Charlie had been in front of the massive aquarium tank when the glass suddenly disappeared. As a result, water and fish flooded the school hallway, causing significant water damage and the closure of two entire floors.
"Dobby is making dinner for the Potter family today," Dobby said.
She was indeed tired and grateful that Dobby was preparing a meal for them. However, she had sworn not to hire a house-elf, but since Harry had freed the house-elf last school year, Dobby had been living in the Potter house. She made sure that the house-elf didn't overwork himself and even allowed him to use the expanded attic as his bedroom.
"This is unbelievable," grumbled Lily as she held Charlie's expulsion letter in her hands.
"I really didn't mean to! The glass just disappeared!" he defended himself as James entered the kitchen. Lily immediately handed him the school letter, but his reaction was as expected, a loud laugh. James tolerated Muggle life and primary school. After all, they had no choice but to hide in the Muggle world after October 31st. Harry was supposed to grow up away from his fame. James didn't like the fact that Harry was first introduced to Diagon Alley and the Floo Network at the age of 11.
"Then we'll homeschool him," James shrugged. He didn't see it as a big problem. Charlie was capable of reading and writing texts. He would learn everything else at Hogwarts anyway.
"Why do our sons have a talent for making glass disappear?" Lily asked more to herself. Harry was 10 when they went on an outing to the zoo with Petunia's family, and the glass of the snake exhibit suddenly vanished.
"I don't know, but what I do know is that I saw Rose today."
"When, where?" Suddenly, Lily dropped everything and her tiredness disappeared in an instant. She looked at her husband hopefully.
"Hogwarts," he said, "She's at Hogwarts!" he repeated, beaming with joy.
Tears of joy rolled down Lily's cheeks, and before she knew it, she began to cry tears of happiness. It was great news. James wrapped his arms around his wife and held her close, placing a kiss on her forehead.
"Are you really sure? No doubt?" Lily asked once again.
"No doubt. She's our Rose!" James smiled and kissed his wife again, this time on the lips. Arm in arm, they watched their youngest, who was hopping around the kitchen with Dobby, filled with joy. "Rose is alive! Rose is alive! Rose is back! Hogwarts! I finally have a big sister!"
James reached out his hand to Charlie, pulling the 9-year-old into their embrace, which the boy gratefully accepted. "Which house is she in?" Charlie asked curiously.
"Hufflepuff," he exclaimed joyfully. At least his girl wasn't in Slytherin—that's all that mattered when it came to Hogwarts, in his opinion.
"What does she look like?" Lily asked curiously.
"A true image of her beautiful mother," James smiled. With an Accio, he conjured an old photo album. "Look, Charlus, this is what your mum looked like at the age of 11. And your sister could be her twin."
"When is Rosie moving in with us?" he asked excitedly, starting to fidget. Charlie had never been able to stay calm for long. He was a true bundle of energy and could really get on anyone's nerves with his hyperactivity.
"I don't know. Unfortunately, she doesn't remember us anymore," James said heavily. "The important thing is that she's alive and well."
"We shouldn't rush things," Lily came to the sad realization. There was no point in overwhelming an 11-year-old who had only recently discovered the magical world.
"Remus is there and will keep an eye on her. He'll take care of our girl," James explained. The fact that his best friend and godfather to his daughter was a Hogwarts professor provided the best opportunity to look after his daughter. Ellie/Rose was in good hands with Remus.
"Have you been outside with him today?" James joked. Charlie was like a young dog that needed to be properly tired out during the day to be able to settle down in the evening.
Lily shook her head, laughing and crying at the same time. How much she would like to hug her daughter right now...
