Epilogue - A New World Order

Imperial Palace, Coruscant, 19 BBY

Percy walked into the Emperor's office, saluting him as he entered, and examined the room.
Beside the Emperor was the former Chancellor's Grand Vizier, Mas Amedda.
The fourth person in the room was Lord Vader, the man clad in imposing new black armour. Percy didn't know the reason for the change, but the stories passing around among the rank and file were that he had been confronted by Obi Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, and had been sorely beaten, only surviving as a result of large amounts of machinery.
That explained the breathing, at least.

"Admiral," the Emperor greeted. "Come, come. Take a seat, my dear boy."
"Thank you, my liege," he acknowledged with a bow of the head, and he drew out the seat, sitting back and fixing the Emperor with an expectant look.
"Perseus, you remember, two years ago, I had come to you, and granted to you your station as Commander of the College on Anaxes?"
Percy nodded. He had indeed taken the post for some time, though he had come out of that office for the remaining duration of the war. Pallas Athena had taken up that post, and the handover to return it to him was due in a few months' time.
"On that day, Perseus, I had expected to have found a good tactician. A visionary, really. Never did I expect to hear of your exploits against the Jedi, leading troops into the Temple."
"It needed to be done, Sir. Many men were lost without me there to engage the traitors - I couldn't bear to think of what would happen had I not been there."
"You were wounded, Perseus," the Emperor noted.
"By a man I served alongside, Emperor," he explained, lacing his tone with bitterness, "Never have I felt so betrayed."
"Understandable, Perseus," the Emperor said.

A brief silence fell between the pair, and it was broken by Percy once more.

"I would like to take some leave, Sir," Percy said shortly, "I haven't had the chance in years, and there is much to be done there, what with the war's end."
The emperor paused for a second, and for a moment Percy saw a flash of something he did not recognise cross his face.
Vader's low, rhythmic breathing permeated the room, a steady thrum of noise through the alternative silence.
"I shall allow you to take this leave, Perseus," Palpatine told him slowly, "And your movements will be unrestricted. I demand, however, that you return without fail, a week prior to your new posting on Anaxes. There are several thing which I wish to discuss with you."

Percy nodded, and left the room.
He was going home.

A/N
Done!
So this epilogue concludes part 1 of my little venture into crossover writing, apologies that it took so long to publish, but times have beem busy.
As I've mentioned, next up is The Talons of an Empire. Credit for the title of that goes to Dudududhehe, like most things to do with this project generally do.
I'll indulge myself and explain a bit about this project itself, how it came about, why I actually ended up posting it, because it's a fun story.

As most of my writing tends to come about, the idea for this started out with my mate 17Falcon15, author of now a large number of stunning fics in the PJO Fandom. I began brainstorming this idea, actually, just after he had finished his fic 'Gold Wings', which goes in the style of Top Gun, and is absolutely magnificently written, if you haven't already taken a look at that. I began to wonder if I could pull off something similar within the Star Wars universe. You can see shades of that in this fic's name. It was originally a working title, but I thought it was cool and so it stuck.
Initially, I had planned to have Percy as an admiral from the outset, making Yularen a far more prominent character, and then ending it about here. As I got into discussion with Dudududhehe, however, ideas with the Rebels universe, which I absolutely loved as a kid, came about, and so the prologue, as well as Chapter 1 as you see it, came into existence.
Percy's role as Obi Wan's Admiral came quickly enough, once I found that little gap, and Nico as his apprentice came not long after that, and suddenly we were in business, though I really couldn't be bothered and shelved the project for a few months.
I was sitting on Chapter 1 by the time CombatTombat mentioned in his server that he'd thought of a fairly similar idea, and at Dudududhehe's urging, I picked this back up, not really sure of where I was going to take it. A rewatch of TCW followed, and then about 20 pages of research, from military structures, plot points, key battles and things I wanted to change.
This was about April 2023, and we were truly in business. I ended up writing about 5 chapters in the space of 5 days, a personal record, and I had enough to get me through my upcoming exams and the Annual Deployment Exercise that was to come quite soon afterwards. Kept going through the summer, and here we are at the finish, about five months later. This is currently my most successful story, and I love that it is.

On another note, someone picked up in the comments that Kanan Jarrus (or Caleb Dume) isn't as old as I've made him. I apologise, my mistake, I fucked up, and was honestly hoping that nobody would notice because it was such a niche reference. Including Mygeeto was a very late decision though my plot - I had initially expected to just jump from Umbara through some politics to the Battle of Coruscant. I saw a chance, did my research later on, facepalmed at my stupidity in not researching Kanan to the appropriate extent, and moved on. It's a minor detail, but part of me does want to go back and remove Caleb/Kanan from that prologue. Doesn't change much in the long run, so we'll see if that happens.

For the last time in this project, thanks to Dudududhehe for his help in betaing and fact-checking me throughout this story. Go and check out his stuff if you somehow haven't already.

Until next time then,

Sol
