In the aftermath of The Killing Season, as the Kingdom of Gwynedd begins to recover from the effects of the fever-flux epidemic and Count Teymuraz' assassination attempt on King Kelson, Duke Dhugal has to learn how to deal with the unforeseen consequences of a decision made in haste. Sequel story to The Killing Season.

King Kelson and his Court discover that, even in the relative safety of peacetime and improved human/Deryni relations, life is never truly secure.

This short story was inspired by the references in KKB about the social-climbing Lady Oksana having tried to snag a Haldane husband before finally settling on Jolyon Ramsey. I thought it would be fun to have a look at one of those failed attempts from Brion and Nigel Haldane's point of view. Rated T for mild "lads will be lads" humor at poor Oksana's expense.

Dhugal MacArdry works through his feelings for the Lady of Llyr who has stolen his heart. How did she come to be in his King's service? Why do she and his father call each other 'Anamchara,' and what significance does that relationship hold? And why, when he was on the verge of proposing to her, did she decide to leave him for a spiritual retreat in hidden St. Kyriell's instead?

After completing her Deryni training at the Court of Andelon, Lady Celsie de Chervignon returns to Corwyn to take up her duties as inheratrix of her manorial lands, and also renews her acquaintance with the Earl of Derry. Sequel story to Demoiselle in Distress and Maidens of Mayhem.

Three young maidens arrive at King Kelson's court at Rhemuth to begin their duties as ladies-in-waiting to a noblewoman in residence there, and secretly to begin their Deryni training as well. The story takes place in the autumn through spring immediately following the events in The Quest For Saint Camber.

The third prequel story to "Maidens of Mayhem" introduces Ailidh nicArdry, a distant kinswoman of young Duke Dhugal MacArdry McLain. This story, along with "Lady-in-Waiting" and "Outfoxed," sets up the stage for events to follow in that novel-length story.

Second prequel story to "Maidens of Mayhem," this story introduces Celsie de Chervignon, one of Duke Alaric Morgan's vassals who seeks his duchess's aid after a traumatic event leads to her flight from her home. Rated T for allusions to violence and abuse occurring just prior to events of story.

One of three prequel stories leading up to my upcoming novel length "Maidens of Mayhem," this further introduces the character of Sophie de Varnay, whose adventures as a new lady-in-waiting in King Kelson's court will be featured in MoM. Most of my Deryni stories fall into an extended story arc within the King Kelson timeline of the series. Not sure if K or T, so picked T.

A young Deryni woman, emboldened by Bishop Duncan's choice to reveal his Deryni heritage, makes her first tentative steps towards fully embracing her own. The unnamed narrator of this 1st Person POV short story is Sophie de Varnay, who will be featured in an upcoming story series I hope to post here soon. This story occurs on the Ash Wednesday after Dhugal's knighting ceremony.
