Titan shifters have the unique experience of seeing into other lives, but Eren has started to see something other than memories...
He woke with a start. Just a moment ago it felt like he was falling, and he swore he was. Eren's body had jolted in his bed; it all felt very real. In any case, the 'dream' of himself falling was no longer his biggest concern.
In the dark,
someone was standing at the foot of his bed.
It was when he had spotted the strange person that his body shutdown. All muscle movement had ceased in the presence of that strange and very still figure. How familiar it felt.
For some reason he did not feel fear. In fact, he hadn't been able to feel much fear for awhile now.
Hesitantly he decided to try and speak. He didn't expect to make a noise, most nights the only thing he could do was watch and listen. But Eren did speak.
"Who are you?"
Eren's own voice startled himself and he waited for a response. If he knew any better he would assume the figure was the one startled by him. Similar to when he awoke, the figure jolted.
Now he had their attention which he apparently didn't before.
His ears recognized a sound coming from the body. A whisper.
'What was that?' He wanted so say, but his voice failed like all the other times.
Moonlight partially illuminated his room, giving the person an outline he could distinguish. Despite that the shadows still concealed their face. It was when he really strained his eyes that he saw movement.
All at once he saw those eyes.
Spotlights blinded him. Where eyes should've been- there were only miniature suns. His room which was fairly dark before was now encompassed in the brightness. The only thing Eren could see were those eyes.
It was like Death had come for him. Those shining lights, it captivated his soul. Beckoning it forth to partake in whatever journey it would take him. This was not like the other nights. Any moment now and he would surely be-
His eyes opened once more. This time it was met with morning sunlight. As warm sunshine kissed his skin he looked to see if the body was still lingering about.
Nothing.
His head ached. Thinking about it all gave nothing but trouble.
He wasn't sure when it started, but when it did, it hadn't stopped. Not even once. Every night he would see something strange. His 'visions' could be written down as night terrors, dreams, or even memories. He never knew what it was, as when they began they always seemed to end. A conversation with Hange ended with the conclusion of Eren having too much stress, and an apology for overworking him.
It wasn't like there was anything particularly useful about them. There was no information to be gained. So he stopped asking. Whatever it was- it had become part of his life now.
Something had compelled Eren outside the living quarters. He hadn't known what, or why, but he had the urge to walk outside. It wasn't that urge to get fresh air, or the need to work his body. It wasn't the desire to look at the sky or the constricting feeling he got trapped in those rooms.
What compelled him outside was nothing. At the same time, it was something. He hadn't known what.
His eyes adjusted to the suns light and he stood there basking in its warmth. He wished it would rain.
He took to lean on a wall when a voice called out to him. "You."
His head snapped to his right, the direction it came from. There was nothing there but his delusion. The mood was cut short and he no longer felt like lingering around. He moved to see if someone had seen him get up and needed him.
"Was it you who brought us into this nightmare?" It had come from behind him this time, next to the spot he had been leaning on previously. When he turned around he was met with a man. A man he was sure hadn't been there before.
Eren blinked once, and then again- to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. "Who are you?" he asked, staring at the person he was sure didn't exist.
After a moment of silence it became apparent the man was expecting an answer to his previous question. Eren had stared at him in that moment between. His face looked slender and worn with age showing, he held something that functioned like a pipe in his hand but smaller. At its end stood a light burn with smoke fumes trickling into the air.
"I don't understand what you're talking about," Eren stated blankly. His eyebrows furrowed. "Mind telling me who you are?"
The guy brought the mini-pipe to his mouth again. His exhale didn't have an odor, which was an unusual thing. He brought it away once more and looked at Eren with gray eyes. "Tell me, what is your name?"
Eren was annoyed by that, multiple times now had his question been ignored. He took notice of the man's uniform which looked nothing like any he'd seen before. "Eren Yeager. Who are you?"
The man stared at him with those eyes and chuckled, "How fitting, I live on even in death.. My name is Eren Kruger, and you are my namesake."
Eren looked at him as if he was a fool. "Why would I be named after you?" Eren... Kruger drew on his smoke.
"Because you're a titan shifter and the name Eren isn't Eldian," Kruger said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Both Eren's stared at each other for a second.
"Are you a ghost?"
"Don't you have more important things to be questioning?"
Eren tapped his foot. This guy gave him the creeps. "Fine, what's that thing called? The thing you're smoking?"
Kruger gave him a dumbfounded look. "Of all the things, that's what you came up with?" He looked at it in his own hands. "Its called a cigarette. I assume they don't have them in the walls then," he concluded.
Eren's eyes lingered on it for a second and nostalgia hit him. "Whats it taste like?" he asked.
"Tastes like shit."
Eren stared at Kruger who still looked at the cigarette in his hand, "Why do you smoke it then?" Kruger contemplated that. He was reminded of his service in Marley and all those years of kicking Eldians off the wall. He thought back to when his family was torched alive.
"I don't know," Kruger finally answered. "Either way it's not real. I am a ghost, and we have more important things to discuss, Eren."
Hm. I am not sure about writing this, but I want to get the idea out of my head. Its not something im going to take completely serious so dont expect anything serious. If I get all my ideas out this will probably have around 10 chapters. Also, its an AU. Things are different. Its been awhile, I probably suck, but oh well.
