A 'An Icarus of my Daedalus' Extended Rewrite
In the shadows of Mount Olympus, Severus Snape, protégé of Apollo, and Lily, a muse of Aphrodite, forged a friendship that was forever fated to unravel.
As the venomous words of hubris severed their bond, however, Severus decides to embark on a perilous odyssey of self-discovery and rebirth; leaving Lily's green-eyed spirit to watch on from Elysium's serene shores as her child grows up in a world without his parents - and his once-vowed protector...

Author's Note
This fic was written because I too am rather intrigued as to what Snape would have done if he had dropped the friendship he had with Lily BEFORE they had left Hogwarts and had decided to move on with his life. And the lack of fictions (or outrageousness of the ones available) have gotten me itching to write this.
This is only the first part of many (as I hopefully will get off my butt and continue to write these) chapters that will be based on Snape's life AFTER moving on from Lily - despite, you know, this starting from the beginning of their friendship and up until it's, well, severed and beyond.
Also, if you have any ideas or wishes that you'd like to see happen (or anything you wanted changed from what was in the books/movies) please let me know. I have no clue as to where this is going, only that it's going somewhere WITHOUT the Unrequited Love tag. Muggle World. Magical World. Killing Dumbledore early. Killing Voldemort early. Ditching everyone. Creating his own 'side' in the war. Etc... Anything's possible! All I ask is that the request has to have a mythological connection/tag, and it doesn't matter from where (as that was the inspo that got me writing the one-shot 'An Icarus To My Daedalus' in the first place); I'm willing to research.
Also, I will warn you now, Professor Slughorn will be both In-Character and completely Out of Character at the same time. Why that is will eventually be revealed, but I can tell you now, Lucius Malfoy ain't gonna be happy chappie...
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this extended piece - that really can't be considered a one-shot anymore given its multiple chapters...
"The evil that is in the world almost always comes of ignorance, and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence if they lack understanding."
Albert Camus
Within the enchanted world of witchcraft and wizardry, and but a few decades shy of the Boy-Who-Lived was born, there existed another remarkable boy, a young child who possessed an extraordinary talent for potions and a keen intellect to match. His name was Severus Snape, and his reputation as a gifted wizard began long before he had stepped foot into the hallowed halls of Hogwarts.
Upon entering Hogwarts, Severus was a mixture of excitement and apprehension, and his Professors were quick to note how he immersed himself into his studies in order to prove his worth; Potions being the subject of where his talents truly shone. Yet he grew to be a solitary figure, an outsider amongst his peers, who often ridiculed him for his unkempt appearance and unfriendly demeanour.
Yet it was before his Hogwarts years did Severus Snape have an encounter that would become a pivotal point in his life, one wherein he came out the other end not only someone unscathed, but with an actual friend; a bright and charismatic Muggleborn witch named Lillian Evans. A girl his very own age, and of whom possessed striking red hair, a heart brimming with compassion, and an unyielding sense of justice. And despite the clear difference in their backgrounds, Severus found himself inexplicably drawn to Lillian's kindness and seemingly innate prowess in magic.
He had admired her from afar, yearning to get closer but dared not to, fearing even more ridicule and rejection.
As the days turned into weeks, however, Severus found his fascination with the redheaded girl deepened. He had come to notice how her laughter had the ability to brighten even the gloomiest of days. And the more he watched her from afar, the more he wondered what it would be like to actually share a moment with her, to bridge the gap that separated them.
Little did Severus Snape know, the meeting he did so yearn for was the linchpin of this rather twisted tale, one that would shape his destiny in ways that none ever could have imagined.
