By the end of Brittany's first week at McKinley high, she had established a pretty good routine. Get up around 8:00 in the morning, rush to school since she woke up too late, avoid Mr. Schue, attend classes, avoid Mr. Schue, have lunch with Sam and Tina, avoid Mr. Schue... Yeah, so maybe it wasn't the best routine but it works for her so she'll have to make do with that until she finds something that works better.

It's not like she has anything against the guy, he seems nice enough. She just happens to have a problem with that fact he's her new watcher. She had a watcher back in Cali, and that turned out fantastic! you know, apart from the fact he died and everything.

…So did she, but she'd rather not think about that.

The point is, she really doesn't want to deal with some guy who trains her on fighting and all that crap, and is responsible for all of her slayer... stuff. She can't put the poor guy in danger.

But it was now Friday as she hadn't seen him since so she's going to take that as a win any day.

"There's my favorite girl!" Sam cheered as he walked up to her with Tina following behind.

"Wow, with Tina right next to you?" Brittany deadpanned. Tina snickered at the blonde's words and Sam just frowned.

"Let me rephrase that. You both are my favorite girls" He cheered.

"Women, actually," Tina replied. The two women chuckled and high-fived each other.

"Ugh you two won't let me win!" He scoffed playfully. Brittany raised a hand and messed his hair.

"Aww, don't worry Sammy you're still our favorite boy" Brittany joked. Tina placed a comforting hand on his shoulder until she couldn't hold in her laughs anymore.

"Whatever" Sam waved his hand dismissively. "So are we going to BreadstiX tonight or what?"

"BreadstiX?" Brittany questioned. She is going to take a wild guess and say that it was a restaurant but she can't for the life of her figure out why they would want to spend their Friday nights there.

"It's this restaurant," Bingo, Brittany thought, "Every Friday night they turn it into this makeshift club. They have a bar, a dance floor and everything," he explained. Upon hearing those words Brittany already knew she was in. She needed a break, and it's only the first week!

"Well, I don't know about you guys but I'm in," Brittany replied. Tina agreed with her and all three of them agreed on a time to meet up.

After this, they went their separate ways. Brittany made her way over to her locker to get her things for her math class. She got her things and was about to shut her locker when she saw the face of the man she had been avoiding all week at the end of the hall. They locked eyes for not even a second before Brittany quickly looked away, shut her locker more harshly than she intended which resulted in a loud bang, and went to class.

She hurried into her Maths class and sat down. Shaking her head in an attempt to calm down, she placed down her books on the table as more students came rushing in. She looked around the class, trying to find a familiar face. As far as she knew, she didn't know anyone in this class, or at least anyone she could talk to. Quinn was in the class. Then again, Brittany didn't think she could really call her a friend. Scratch that, Brittany knew she couldn't call her a friend,

Eventually, the class was full and the teacher had begun the lesson, only just though. And okay, maybe Brittany was slightly offended that the only empty seat is the one right next to her, but she'll live.

Brittany just sat in her own little world, focusing on what her teacher was saying until an all too familiar blonde came running in.

"Ms. Fabray, you're late. Very late actually." The teacher scolded. Quinn just rolled her eyes, choosing not to respond, before scanning the room. Her eyes settled on Brittany before sighing and walking over.

Brittany suddenly was much more annoyed about having the only empty seat next to her. How had she not noticed that Quinn wasn't here? Oh right, she hadn't attended the last three lessons. That'd be it.

Quinn sat down next to her and began rummaging through her bag as Brittany watched out of the corner of her eye.

"Shit" Quinn mumbled. She glanced at Brittany for a split second before completely turning her body towards her. "Pierce I need a pencil" She said, rather bluntly Brittany thought.

Brittany just stared at her and blinked because... what? Quinn simply raised an eyebrow at Brittany, giving her a look. Brittany sighed and grabbed her only other pencil and handed it over.

They spent most of the lesson with this awkward tension between them. They both finished off their classwork relatively quickly so their teacher handed them both a worksheet to do until the end of the lesson.

"Hey what's question 12?" Quinn asked. Brittany glanced over to her and saw that she had her eye set on her sheet.

"Negative 26 over 14" Brittany replied. She figures she may as well help the girl. Being the bigger person or something like that.

"Thanks," Quinn mumbled. Brittany just nodded and got on with her work. The second the bell rang the two were out the door as fast as possible.

Considering the fact that the two were going to be stuck sitting next to each other for the rest of the semester, Brittany wasn't going to go around trying to start any fights. The last fight she got into? Didn't exactly end well. She's not too keen on going through that again.

Brushing aside what was probably the most awkward period she's had at McKinley, she rushed home as fast as she could since she was meeting Sam and Tina at breadsticks tonight. She wanted to pick out a good outfit, with it being her first actual time properly going out in Lima and everything.

Hours later, Brittany found herself standing in front of her mirror holding up her different outfit choices. Eventually she settled on black jean shorts, a white cropped shirt and a pale pink jacket. She grabbed her phone, keys, and purse and headed out the door.

It didn't take too long to find the place, mainly because it was one of the only places people were walking into, and you know… the massive 'BreadstiX' sign out the front was a bit of a giveaway as well. She couldn't wait to spend some more time with Sam and Tina. Tina was just really funny and a great person to be around, and Sam gave the whole 'boy next door' vibe which was really great. So yeah, Brittany was pretty happy about her choice of friends at her new school.

Walking in, she knew that she was bound to have fun. It was definitely her kind of place.

"Britt!" Tina called out. She looked over to see her waving, with Sam next to her. She made her way over and greeted them. They took turns complimenting each other's outfits, and Brittany was sure that tonight was exactly what she needed to relax.

"So, what's our game plan for tonight?" Sam says, passing Brittany a lemonade.

"Game plan?" She questioned. Tina looks just as confused as Brittany with her brows furrowed.

"Well, I don't know about you guys, but apparently some of the cheerios are here tonight." Sam said, a goofy smile on his face.

"What? You gonna get with Quinn?" Brittany laughed. Tina smiled while Sam shook her head with a frown.

"Gosh, definitely not." Sam fake vomited and the two girls laughed at his actions. He then told the three that he was going to go dance. Tina and Brittany held back to continue drinking and talking. Brittany was so glad that she could just forget everything. Well, mainly Mr Shue, but that's besides the point.

It wasn't long before Brittany noticed that Tina couldn't keep her eyes off Sam dancing. He wasn't dancing with anything in particular, but Brittany knew the longing look all too well.

"Tina," She said, to get Tina's attention again. Tina looked over to her, her brows slightly raised, as if she didn't quite know that she was staring. "So… Sam?" She asked.

"What about Sam?" Tina responded.

"Do you um… Like him?" She asked, rather bluntly. Tina's eyes immediately snapped to her glass and she picked it up and took a sip.

"Uh, yeah." She responded quietly. She took a deep breath and continued. "It's stupid. I know he'll never like me back. We're friends and I don't want that to change. But yeah, I like him."

"It's not stupid." Brittany shrugged. "He's sweet, and he really cares about you."

"Yeah but.. Like I said, we're friends and I don't wanna mess that up. Plus, just look at him." As Tina spoke, Brittany's gaze shifted over to Sam who was dancing with some girl, by the looks of it they seemed to be flirting. "If he liked me then he wouldn't be dancing with a girl as we speak."

Brittany didn't really have a response, so instead she sighed and looked over to Sam. It was only then he noticed the girl he was dancing with. She was strange to say the least. She danced like she just came out of the disco era and she was so pale she looked as if she hadn't seen sunlight in years.

Wait…

Brittany's breath hitched as it dawned on her. She was a vampire. Brittany always had a bit of a knack for that sort of thing. Spotting vampires that is. Like a gaydar but for vampires. It was her job so she supposed that's probably expected. Well, it used to be her job, but seeing Sam walk away and out of the restaurant with this girl had Brittany thinking that maybe she should come out of retirement for one night.

"Jeez, they're leaving already, that quickly? She works fast." Tina commented, shock covering her face. Brittany's eyes followed them out the door and she got out of her seat.

"I'm going to be back in a second." Brittany says, her mind racing as she begins to speed walk out of the place. She hears Tina call out about not interrupting them, but she doesn't have time to listen right now.

Her heart is racing and by the time she is near the alley by the side of the building, she's full on sprinting.

"Sam!" She called out. She could see two figures at the end of the alley and she ran towards them praying it was Sam and that vampire.

She got there and saw Sam looking at her with a confused look on his face.

"Britt, what are you doing here?" Sam said. Brittany didn't respond. She didn't have time either, because the girl next to him had just gone full vamp, sharp teeth now pointing out and everything.

She ran towards her and tackled her off of Sam. Sam stumbled back when he saw the girl's face, now all wrinkled.

The vampire brought her legs up and pushed them onto Brittany's chest, knocking her back into the brick wall. Out of the corner of Brittany's eye, she saw a broom. The dots connected in her head and she quickly grabbed it and snapped the broom in half.

"What's going on out here-" Tina's words got caught in her throat as she saw the sight before her. Sam huddled in the corner while Brittany lunged at the girl with a sharp stick.

Brittany and the vampire traded punches for a good minute. At this moment Brittany wishes that she had taken Mr. Shue up on his offer to train, because although she would be considered in shape to anyone else, she wasn't anywhere near what she needed to be the fight vampires with ease like she used to.

She used her foot to sweep behind the vampire's legs, and knock her over. She immediately got down and jammed the wood into her chest as hard as she could.

She made eye contact with the vampire before it denigrated into a pile of dust.

Thank god I didn't miss, She thought.

She got up off the ground, huffing and puffing as she brushed vampire dust off her jacket.

"Gross," She mumbled. She brought her hand up to wipe the blood off her nose. It was only then she noticed Sam and Tina standing opposite her, both with looks of horror on their faces.

"What the hell just happened?" Tina asked. Sam didn't say anything, he looked too shocked by everything that just happened.

Great, just when Brittany thought she was going to have some friends.

Brittany looked between the two of them, knowing she has a lot of explaining to do.

"Brittany? What just happened?" Tina asked.

Brittany looked at them both, her chest feeling heavy with knowing what was about to happen. If she tells them, there is a very solid chance that they'll go and tell the whole school, and her life will be ruined. Ruined by something she was trying to run from at that.

Her gaze darted between Sam and Tina before she spoke.

"Do you wanna go inside? I need a drink. I promise I'll explain everything."

"So uhh who was that girl? Because I was under the impression that she wanted to make-out or something." Sam said, his hand awkwardly scratching behind his head. Brittany took a deep breath before she answered.

"That was a... vampire." She replied. Tina and Sam both looked at her like she had two heads. Which, well, she can't really blame them, she had a pretty similar reaction when she found out about all this.

"like, an actual vampire?" Tina said, to which Brittany nodded. "like full blown, Edward Cullen vampire?"

"Well not really these ones want you dead and don't get all sparkly in sunlight. These just straight up burn instead." Brittany shrugged.

"I don't get it." Sam said, shaking his head. "I have, like, so many questions- how are vampires even a thing? Are you like a ninja person? How were you so good at killing the thing? Are all vampires bad?" Sam was speaking faster than either Tina or Brittany could comprehend. Instead, Britt just put a hand out to stop Sam talking right there.

"Ok, I'm going to try to answer all of that." She replied. Sam and Tina both lent forward in anticipation of What Brittany was about to say. "Well… yeah… I guess obviously now you know that vampires are very much real. And, no," She laughed. "I'm not a ninja person"

Brittany takes a moment to cellect her words as Sam and Tina just stare at her with their mouths slightly hanging open.

"I'm what's called a 'Slayer'. The story is that a really long time ago some people needed someone to counteract evil in the world, and it's not really exclusive to them but it's mainly for vampires. Since then every generation, a girl is chosen to be the Slayer. That's me. Once a slayer dies, another one is called onto. I got called just over a year ago." Brittany's still reluctant to even call herself the slayer, since it's not like she wants to be in the slightest. "I can do some things other people can't. I have a lot of extra strength, stamina and resilience, but that's it."

"Holly shit." Sam said. "So you're like… a superhero."

"Don't really feel like one." Brittany sighed without really thinking before speaking. She looks up to them and sees the furrowed brows and realizes she should probably explain. "It sucks. I didn't ask for this and I don't want this responsibility. I don't really feel like getting into it but there was an accident like 6 months ago and I just haven't felt the same about being the slayer ever since."

"It's okay, Brittany, you don't have to tell us anything you don't want to." Tina said. Brittany gave her a weak smile before speaking again.

"Thanks Tina. Is there anything else you guys wanna know?" Brittany said. "Feel free to ask away since you guys already know about vampires. Most of the time we try to keep it under wraps just because the world would not be able to handle knowing about this kind of stuff."

"Yeah uh… How are vampires made? Are they all bad because before that girl tried to… you know… kill you… She seemed really nice" Sam said.

"They're all bad Sam. I'm sorry, I know you thought that was something but she was only acting like that so she could eat you. There's not really a nice way to put that" Brittany replied. "The way they're made is kinda weird to be honest. A vampire has to bite a human, once the vampire sucks a bit of their blood, the human has to then suck some of the vampire's blood."

"Jeez, a lot of sucking going on." Sam said. Brittany and Tina just looked at each other and laughed.

"You guys are taking this surprisingly well…" Brittany said after a short pause.

"To be honest I think I was most shocked when we actually saw the vampire. If anything, this conversation is giving me clarity." Tina said. Sam agreed and Brittnay nodded while looking around. People around are having fun drinking and dancing, as you do. Brittany sighed because they really have no idea what just went down, they probably never will. She then gets a thought.

"You need to promise you won't tell anyone this. I'm serious, shit can get really messy if you do." Brittany said sternly. Sam and Tina took a sip of their drink and nodded.

Brittany is shocked they're still willing to be her friend if she's being honest. But nevertheless, she spent the rest of the night answering the questions the two of them had, it was the least she could do.

The rest of Brittany's weekend is very uneventful. Physically at least. Mentally she spent the whole weekend thinking and stressing. If she hadn't stepped in, Sam would've died. And the only reason she stepped in was because Sam was her friend. She thought of all the people she didn't know who something bad might happen to just because she doesn't know them and so she would've stepped in. She was given this responsibility, no by choice but still, she doesn't quite know how she'll cope knowing that she could've made a difference but refused simply because she didn't want the responsibility.

This is when her morals started to kick in.

She has to be selfless, she can't just let this happen. It's her duty she now felt horrible for just letting herself ignore this call for half a year now.

She thinks of how selfish she's being by not helping people just because she doesn't want to. She's the only Slayer, no one else is able to help people the way she can.

So when she goes to school on Monday, she knows what she has to do. Albeit, she does it reluctantly but deep down she's very aware she's doing a good thing.

XXX

The school day went smoothly, Sam and Tina are still willing to be her friends and act normal which is so much more than she could've asked for.

But when the clocks striked 3, she made her way to the choir room.

She heard through the grapevine that Mr Shue is the coach of the glee club or something. So she figures she might find him in the choir room after school. Thankfully, Glee Club happens during school hours so she won't have to worry about some nosy singing teenagers.

"Mr Shue?" She called out once she walked in the room. She heard footsteps come from the office next to the choir room and sure enough Mr Shue walked out with a curious look on his face.

"Brittany? Can I help you with anything?" She replied. Brittany takes a deep breath to collect herself before speaking.

"So I've been doing some thinking…" She started, "I can't do this on my own, I'm going to need a watcher. You still offering?" Mr Shue looked at her in shock before shaking himself out of it and answering.

"Yes! Of course! But you need to know that this isn't something you can just quit on anytime, this is your life." He replied.

"Yeah… I know. "she answered reluctantly.

"Good. I'll let the council know that you're on board." He said. He walked over to his phone and picked it up.

"Geez, forgot about those guys. They're not exactly going to be happy with me are they?' She said, although she already knew the answer. The council were these old guys who overlooked everything that happened with the slayer. Brittany had cut all contact with them 6 months ago, so she can't imagine they'd happen with her for all that. Shue recognises her reluctance to speak to the council when he puts the phone down.

"I'll let them know later. I'm sure they'll just be happy you're willing to continue this." He said.

"Yeah, probably…" She replied, fully aware that they both know they are both lying. "So where do we start?"

"Well, I'll need your schedule. From there we can figure out what times to meet up for training, You will also have to start patrolling at night. It's going to be a lot of work but I think you already know that." Shuester throws her a stake and Brittany catches it with ease. Extra quick reflexes and all that.

"Yeah, I know. What does it mean about the patrolling thing though?" She questioned. Her old watcher had only been a member of the council for less than a year, so there were still a few things she didn't know.

"At night I'm going to need you to patrol the graveyard. This way, the second a vampire rises, you'll be there to stake it. Simple as that."

"So you're telling me I'm going to have to spend all night, every night in a graveyard?" Brittany replied, shocked. She never used to do that with her old watcher. Plus, she kind of needs sleep once in a while.

"No, not every night and not all night. But it's important to be there as much as possible." He reasoned. Brittany nodded because at least he was being somewhat reasonable.

"So I definitely got my work cut out for me then. Can't wait." She said, a fake smile plastered on her face.
