Heroes of the Next Generation

Chapter 10: Happily Ever After

Tyson was super flustered as he walked into Olympus headquarters, with Ella Dare at his side. The redhead's eyes were darting around wildly, her mouth in a little o as she took it all in. As soon as she laid eyes on her big sister, she broke away from Tyson to run up to and jump Rachel.

"Hey," Rachel laughed, wrapping her arms around her little sister.

"This is amazing!" Ella looked so excited. "You're here! You're really here."

Though the news had been filled with reports of Nova Olympia for months now, Tyson could relate to the utter disbelief Ella was currently experiencing. Part of Tyson also still struggled with it. With the fact that his big brother, who would play pranks with Tyson and eat too much candy during their Disney movie nights, was now a fully grown-up hero. Tyson's eyes landed on Percy, concentrated on something on the table in the corner, together with a serious-looking Luke.

"Hey, Perce," Tyson spoke up softly. "Am I interrupting important mission plans…?"

Both Percy and Luke looked up at that – Percy startled, like he hadn't expected Tyson to be here already, and Luke mostly amused. Ty knew Luke, he was one of the older students Percy had gone to school with and had been a bit of a mentor-figure for Percy during their school days.

"It's a very important mission, but not the way you think, kid," Luke said with a smirk.

Tyson furrowed his brows as he looked closer. "What is it?"

"Seating arrangement for Luke and Octavian's wedding," Percy chuckled. "Everything's gotta be perfect, Octavian is such a stick in the mud, he would be so annoyed if anything went wrong. And that includes clashes of the guests because we seated them wrong."

Tyson nodded, not entirely understanding the dramatics. Sure, he was a teenager by now, but getting this lost in adult stuff still didn't entirely connect with him. A wedding was about two people who loved each other, and everyone who loved them supporting that love. So why would there be any kind of drama? Tyson couldn't help but let his gaze wander over toward Ella at the thought of two people loving each other. His cheeks heated up against his will.

"Percy, you and Luke done so we can get dinner?"

At Rachel's words, Percy turned to check in with Luke, who simply nodded. "Silena is gonna drop by anyway, so I'll go over things with her again. You're good to go, thanks for your help."

Percy grinned pleased and wrapped one arm around Tyson's shoulders. Percy and Rachel had invited their younger siblings over for dinner today. They'd wanted to show them Olympus for a while now, but they also needed the rest of the team being okay with two teenagers coming here. It took some time of working together before this seemed okay to Rachel and Percy.

"Where are we eating?" Tyson asked curiously.

"Upstairs," Percy was spotting a broad grin. "Nico cooked dinner for us."

"Yes," Tyson fist-pumped in excitement. "Nico is an awesome cook."

Ella tilted her head and nodded at that. She didn't care much for the food, she was just happy to be spending time with her big sister, and with her Tyson. As they walked, she naturally reached out for Tyson to take his hand, as they had done so many times in recent months. Well, no, that wasn't true, they'd done this even before they got together. Even as little kids, Ella used to drag Tyson around.

What neither of the teens noticed was the way Rachel and Percy looked at their linked hands, and then exchanged a look. Surprised, on Percy's end, and knowing, on Rachel's.

"So—o," Percy drawled it out slowly. "Anything new you wanna tell us?"

Tyson's head snapped up to stare at his brother with wide eyes and red ears. "What?"

Unlike Tyson, Ella seemed not flustered at all, she simply offered a proud smile. "Yes. Tyson is my boyfriend now. That's my Tyson now."

Neither Rachel nor Percy could suppress the laughter at that, and at Tyson's flushed face.

"I can't believe my baby brother has a girlfriend," Percy let out the most long-suffering sigh as he collapsed onto the couch, right between his boyfriends.

"Your, uh, 'baby' brother is eighteen years old by now," Jason dared to point out.

"Okay. Yeah. But that's the problem," Percy argued. "How dare my tiny baby brother who used to get on his tippy-toes to tug on my shirt, is now… one and a half heads taller than me and is old enough to have a girlfriend."

All Nico did was chuckle and gently pat his head. He knew better than to point out to Percy that this was just how things were. Though he was kind of glad that he didn't have that with Hazel. She was barely a year younger than him, they'd always been on more equal footing.

"I'm so excited for the wedding," Jason offered, trying to change the topic. "I mean, I think that Luke is really lacking taste, but… Octavian is spending some serious cash on this and it's like. A whole damn event. I'm looking forward to seeing you two all dressed up and pretty."

He grinned at them and leaned over to kiss first Percy on the cheek, and then Nico. Their lives had been so busy lately – Jason had indeed landed his first gig, and though he was only a minor role that only participated in group songs, and it was off-off-broadway, but it was a role and he was actually singing and speaking a few lines! And then there were Nico and Percy, who were both so wrapped up in Nova Olympia. Though the team had found its footing over the past couple months, however Percy was still the leader and thus had the most work to do.

"It will be nice to dance together and just… enjoy the time together," Nico conceded.

"Also food. A lot of good food that you didn't have to cook yourself," added Percy.

"Tell me I look absolutely ridiculous," Hazel requested, with a heavy sigh.

She was wearing a purple dress, with a dark-purple top and lighter purple skirt that flowed around her. Golden ornaments along the neckline that matched her jewelry. Personally, she thought she looked ridiculous, because in the past year or so, all she had been wearing was either her hero costume, or simply something comfortable and cozy at home. She couldn't remember the last time she put on make-up and wore high heels like that.

"You look awesome, don't be ridiculous," Alabaster argued, giving her the thumbs-up. "Right?"

Though he had to elbow his sister to get a verbal reaction out of her, because Lou Ellen was so busy gaping at Hazel, she couldn't get a word out. "Y… Yeah. Yeah, you look… you look great."

Alabaster took a moment to stare at her, before he turned toward Ethan and exchanged a meaningful look with his lover. Lou Ellen had always been super awkward when she liked a girl, and to them, this had been a long time coming. The two working together at the Golden Cauldron, having grown closer and closer. Al and Ethan had front-row seats to watching them fall for each other. It was just a matter of time before the two women would also realize it.

"Think I can go to the wedding in this?" Hazel asked, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"No, I think you might steal the grooms' show," Lou Ellen argued with a huff.

Hazel felt flustered at that, looking at Lou Ellen for a very long moment.

"Stop it," Thalia complained. "Right in front of my cereals."

She waved her spoon around a little, trying to make the two sappy couples in front of her stop being sappy. Though she understood it, what with Bianca usually being with the hunt with Thalia, her and Annabeth didn't get to spend as much time together as they'd want to. And on the other side were Reyna and Piper, who had only gotten together a few weeks ago and were still in their honeymoon phase. That didn't mean Thalia enjoyed all the PDA over breakfast though.

"Thank you for bringing me my girlfriend," Annabeth smiled oh-so sweetly at Thalia.

Like that was gonna work on Thalia. She rolled her eyes at the blonde, but refrained from commenting. It wasn't like Thalia had had a say in the matter anyway. When she'd left the camp-side to return to Olympus for a debriefing, Bianca had simply invited herself along, saying that she would like to spend some time with her girlfriend before the wedding too. Seeing as she was Annabeth's plus one for Luke and Octavian's level.

"I can't believe you two are a couple yet, though," Bianca waved her toast into the direction of Reyna and Piper. "I mean, good for you. If you guys are doing well working together too."

Piper blushed and ducked her head to rest her forehead against Reyna's shoulder. "I don't know. I mean, we do have the… good luck that we don't have to always work together. Percy usually sends us out in smaller teams, rarely all of us together. And so far… he has tried to keep us apart on the field, he knows there's a special kind of… desire to protect your partner. It's why he never goes out in the field alone with your brother either."

Bianca nodded, a small smile on her lips. "I'm happy for you, then."

She tilted her head to look at Annabeth with heart eyes, once again prompting Thalia to complain.

"You look so handsome, I want to…" Jason licked his lips, reaching for Nico's suit-jacket.

"No," Nico chuckled, catching his boyfriend's hands. "No time for any of that, amore. We have a wedding to get to and I'm sure that Percy is waiting for us too."

Though he did tilt his head to place a gentle, deep kiss on Jason's lips. Jason still pouted at that, much more interested in unwrapping his handsome boyfriend who looked so good in that black tux and with the black shirt beneath, cut to perfection. Nico slipped his hand into Jason's to pull him along so they could catch up with Percy. Their third had gone ahead to help Grover and Juniper out with the last touches on the flowers, never missing an opportunity to spend some quality time with his oldest and best friend. Time was a rarity for them all nowadays.

"Juniper, you look lovely," Nico offered a smile with the compliment.

And she did, having some flowers woven into her caramel-colored hair, they matched her light-blue dress in color. She returned his smile and gave quick hugs to both Nico and Jason before motioning toward the other end of the hall where Grover and Percy were standing.

"I can't believe this is actually happening," was the first thing they heard from Grover.

"Believe me, nobody can. Remember when we used to have a betting pool on how long it'll take for Luke to realize that he had bad taste," Nico agreed.

"Shush," Percy elbowed him. "I mean, I'm personally not going to date Octavian, but clearly the guy must be doing something right, right?"

Jason chuckled. "I'm so glad to hear you won't leave us for Octavian."

"What is all of this? Flowers? Fluff? Terrible."

The five of them turned to look at Clarisse la Rue and, next to her, Chris Rodriguez. Percy took only a second before he bolted over to force Clarisse into a hug. They hadn't seen each other in ages, Clarisse and Chris had moved away after graduation to pursue their own dreams.

"You're looking good, la Rue," Percy grinned.

Clarisse huffed amused. "Not looking half-bad yourself, Jackson."

"How's the dojo going?" Percy asked curiously.

The two of them headed off together, with Chris trailing slightly after them, leaving Grover and Juniper to the flowers, and leaving Jason and Nico to be picked up by Luke and roped into helping with the final touch set-ups before the main event got started.

"Stop messing with your hair. It looks good."

Luke halted and turned toward Thalia. She was closely followed by Annabeth, Silena and Clarisse. He couldn't believe that they all had come to celebrate today with him, and with Octavian. Taking another deep breath, Luke checked himself in the mirror one last time.

"Ready to hand me over at the altar?" Luke asked, looking at Thalia.

"It's a dubious honor," Thalia grinned, offering her arm to him. "If you change your mind, we got a get-away car outside, just say the word."

"Thalia Grace!" Silena glared at her and elbowed her. "You shut it right now. This is a beautiful occasion and Luke and Octavian love each other very much. Now shoo."

She gave them both a gentle push from behind before heading back toward the other guests with Annabeth and Clarisse. Once more did Luke take a very deep breath, only then did he nod at Thalia to go ahead. It wasn't nerves, in the sense of him wanting to run off. He was simply nervous because this was going to be the start of a new phase in their lives, together.

"Okay," Luke whispered. "Bring me to my future husband."

/break\

"What if he changed his mind?"

Rachel raised one unimpressed eyebrow as she looked at Octavian. "You're not one to doubt yourself. Or your boyfriend. He didn't change his mind."

Octavian nodded sharply, knowing her to be right of course. Still, he had never considered getting married. He had never considered falling in love. Yet here he was, standing at the end of the aisle, waiting for the man he loved to become his husband. It actually took his breath away when Thalia and Luke rounded the corner. He was… beautiful.

"Hey," Luke whispered once he reached them. "You ready for this?"

"Well, he better be," Rachel answered, snark in her voice. "I didn't force myself into this ridiculous dress to be his best woman for him to bail out in the last second."

Octavian cleared his throat, a half-hearted glare aimed at Rachel. "Yes, I am ready, Lucas."

When Luke smiled at him, Octavian felt warmth flood his entire being. He reached out to take Luke's hand before the ceremony finally started.

/break\

Percy tried very hard not to cry as he watched Luke and Octavian get married. He really tried, but there was something so… sentimental, about having them all come together, celebrating this love between their friends. How everyone had dressed up for this, the good food and music and just overall sense of happiness and being together.

"You're such a softie," Jason teased him, as the two of them were dancing together.

He grinned at Percy, nosing his cheek to coax a kiss out of his boyfriend. Percy wiggled his nose but happily gave the kiss to Jason. While the two of them were dancing, Nico was twirling Bianca around close by. Luke and Octavian had said yes and now all that was left was good food and dancing – and Percy was all in on that. He'd already danced with Nico, Grover, Annabeth.

"Mind if I cut in?" Nico smiled at them, taking both their hands.

Both Percy and Jason took Nico's hands as the three of them started dancing together.

"I thought you wanted to dance with Hazel after?" Percy asked.

"Yeah," Nico rested an arm around Percy's waist, but he turned his head to look at his sister. "It… seems that Hazel is… very busy. Guess a wedding woke some romantic feelings there."

At his words, both Jason and Percy turned to look at Hazel, who was slow-dancing with Lou Ellen and getting lost in her eyes. Jason and Percy made little 'ooh' sounds at that before returning their attention to Nico and the dance they were having right now.

"Cute," Percy commented, resting his chin on Nico's shoulder.

Nico grumbled to himself, keeping one eye on Hazel as she danced oh-so closely to Lou Ellen. Not that he didn't like Lou Ellen, he just was constantly worried for his little sister. After one more dance did the throuple go and sit back at their table, where the two grooms were currently engaged in conversation with Beckendorf, Silena, Clarisse and Chris.

"Look at all these married couples," Percy grinned teasingly as he sat down.

Nico grunted slightly, because Percy had decided to sit down on his lap. He quickly wrapped an arm around Percy's waist. His other hand was linked with Jason's, fingers intertwined.

"This was beautiful," Jason commented as he rested his head against Nico's shoulder, yawning.

Percy turned enough so he could place a kiss on top of Jason's head.

"Well, aren't you three the cutest?" Luke grinned at them, playing with his new wedding band.

"You're one to talk," Percy threw him a look. "This is your big day."

The grin on Luke's face stretched further as he leaned back into his husband. Octavian gave a soft grunt and then wrapped an arm around Luke, resting his hand atop Luke's heart.

"You're just sitting! Why are you just sitting? Dance! Party!"

Leo ran up to them, with Frank in toe, Leo grabbing Jason and Percy by the hands, and Frank grabbing Nico. There was no fighting them, and Leo was probably right. Today should be enjoyed.

/break\

"Welcome, everyone," Chiron's voice was as booming as Percy remembered it. "We're here to celebrate this year's graduating class and see them off into their future."

"Woho!" Percy yelled and clapped loudly.

Some of the other family members in the stands looked at him at that, not that he cared. Triton, Sally and Paul next to him cheered just as enthusiastically though, so Percy didn't feel bad. All Jason and Nico did was offer warm smiles to Percy and clap, much more tuned down.

"That's my little brother," Percy grinned and pointed at Tyson on the stage.

Tyson stood in a row with all of his classmates, giant grin on his lips as he waved to his brother, not the least bit bothered by the scene Percy was causing. He was holding Ella's hand with his other, standing proud and tall with his chest puffed out. He'd always looked up to his big brother, and he had known he'd go to Chiron High the moment Percy had signed up for it. And just like his brother, Tyson had mastered the school very well. Mostly, he knew, thanks to Ella by his side.

Chiron cleared his throat and the ceremony continued, until Tyson finally got to run over to his family proudly to be hugged by all of them. Especially Percy clung tightly onto his baby brother.

"I am so proud of you, Ty," Percy grinned broadly. "Look at my brother!"

Nico and Jason both didn't look at Tyson, instead they were smiling warmly at Percy, loving his enthusiasm and love for his family. Though they too shared Percy's pride on Tyson for making it. Sally smiled and caressed Tyson's cheek, while Paul ruffled his hair.

Percy smiled at his brother. "You have a bright future ahead of you, I just know it."
