Tonks tried to not yawn too loudly. There was no point in trying to stop the yawn, that was coming whether she wanted it too or not. Even clenching her jaws together didn't stop it, all that did was make her eyes water. So, her best bet was to make it as discreet as possible. Which she thought she managed okay. Thankfully, yawning was something she took after her mum in, if that sort of thing was inherited. Her dad made this ridiculous noise when he yawned so that you couldn't help but know what he was doing. Of course, it didn't help that it was usually accompanied by these big arm stretches. He'd almost punched her mum in the face once by yawning. That had been pretty funny.

But she didn't yawn like that so she didn't punch anyone in the face. Which was a shame because that would at least be a little excitement. Something that she desperately needed right now. Absentmindedly, she wondered if she could get away with punching someone and making it look like an accident. Surely that would get her out of here? Sure, Moody would be annoyed but he would understand, right? This had to be the most boring talk she had ever sat through and she had had to sit through five years of Professor Binns. How was she supposed to pay attention to something even worse than that? She just hoped that Moody didn't quiz her on anything later because that would not go down well, she could tell you that now.

The stupid, weedy looking court official who'd accompanied the Deputy Head of the DMLE shot her a dirty look. Tonks tried to look repentant but from the look of disdain she got in return, she didn't think she was too successful. Great. Just great. She tried to bring herself to care a bit more but she just couldn't. It just wasn't interesting enough. She clamped down her jaw in an effort to prevent another yawn escaping. Her eyes watered like hell but she managed it.

Look, she couldn't help it. This. Was. Boring. So boring. In fact, she was surprised that none of them had fallen asleep. Though, she was pretty sure that she saw McCabbert sway in front of her just a few minutes ago.

She didn't straighten herself up, though. As boring as this was, she didn't want to make a bad impression on anyone here. As an Auror, she would at some point be working with the Wizangamot and all sorts of officials of here was a trial on. And she did not want to be remembered as the one uninterested in the law. That kind of defeated the whole point of being an Auror. But seriously, it was just so boring. How did anyone stand to do this for a living? Give her action over court stuff any day.

Looking around as unobtrusively as she could, Tonks couldn't help but be a little bit underwhelmed by the courtroom. It was meant to be the biggest and the most important one and except for have a lot of space, it wasn't that spectacular to her. Though, it was a bit unnerving from the floor to have the seats look over you. Imagine having them all filled with people, hundreds of eyes all focussed on you. She shuddered at the thought. Her worst nightmare. Nope. No thank you. With any luck, that would never have to be her. She was going to be an Auror. Someone who enforced the law. Not a law breaker. Not a criminal.

Because none of this was interesting, her thoughts wandered. Which was a pain, literally, because that meant that she couldn't distract herself from the ache that was still very much in her legs.

It had been a week now and her legs still hurt after her bout of stupidity with the running track. She should have known that Moody would have found out and been pissed off. She should have known that she wouldn't be able to get one over on him. But still. Making her do the obstacle course after her going around the short track for two hours was just plain evil. The short track might have been the easiest but two hours of it still tired you out. She should know. That had been the longest time she had ever taken on that obstacle course, even including the time she had nearly been knocked unconscious by the swinging tyre portion of it. And Moody had the audacity to look smug at the end of it! Her legs throbbed again and she decided to try and focus on the person talking again. Maybe if she tried harder, it would distract her.

"Of course, you could be called upon to describe to the court what happened during a part9cuakr incident," the man droned, somehow managing to make it sound like the dullest thing ever. "Then, of course, you would be standing right here to give your testimony."

Now that caught Tonks' attention pretty quickly. There was a chance that she could be made to stand her and explain things? In front of loads of people? No, wait, that was definitely not something she had signed up for. Public speaking? No thank you. Definitely not something she could do. Which was why she could never do what her mother did.

"Any questions?"

That question startled everyone, apparently, she wasn't the only one to zone out. It was like everyone had woken from a stupor. There were a few sheepish glances thrown about, realising what had happened.

Thankfully, the man didn't seem annoyed at all, unlike the court official who looked more angry than annoyed. In fact, he laughed.

"It's the same every year," he chuckled, shaking his head. "A bit boring, isn't it?"

Cue the guilty shuffling. Tonks knew she didn't want to be the person to verbally agree with that, even if it was true.

"Yeah, that's what I thought," he continued, much to everyone's embarrassment. "Well, unfortunately, court duties are one of those necessary things that an Auror must do at some point. Between protection of the public and court from prisoners and protection of said prisoners-"

"Why would we want to protect prisoners?" Eggleston asked with a frown.

"Because they might be so notorious that the public may go with mob mentality rather than lawful proceedings."

Eggleston looked blankly at him. It was kind of funny. At least she wasn't the only one not paying attention.

"The public might try to attack the prisoner," Tonks translated helpfully, used to the legal language - her mother used it often enough.

"Exactly, Trainee -?"

"Tonks," she supplied.

The man gave her a long look. "Relation of Andromeda Tonks?"

Huh. That was a nice change. Normally it was Bellatrix she was associated with. Or Sirius (for completely the wrong reason). It was sort of nice to be actually recognised as her mother's daughter for a change.

"Daughter."

"Of course," he then turned around and paced in front of them, continuing what he was previously trying to tell them. "So, as I was saying, your duties in the court include general protection, reporting on behaviour and treatment of prisoner while on custody and keeping general order. Exciting stuff."

Safe to say, no one looked particularly excited.
