Chapter 19

When we are traveling, we meet two reporters who are named Gaby and Ty. They want to battle us so that they can have an interview with us, so Minami and I are the ones who battle them. They both use Magneton and Loudred, and we evolve our Linoone to defeat them in the end.

Linoone: The Rushing Pokemon: Normal Type. Evolve from Zigzagoon at LV:20. When hunting, Linoone will make a beeline straight for the prey at a full run. While this Pokémon is capable of topping 60 mph, it has to come to a screeching halt before it can turn.

"Okay, I need you to describe your feelings about our battle, but it has to be short and sweet. Go!" When Gaby asks me this, I answer that I'm feeling excited to battle new Pokemon and also thinking of new strategies.

"Mmm, yeah! That's the perfect clincher! I get the feeling that this will make a great TV show. There's a chance that they'll air this on TV, so make sure to look for us! Okay! We'll be seeing you!" Then they leave, and Max says, "Looks like you're going to be more famous."

"I'm already famous, I guess this is not going to help us..." I sigh.

We also train up our Pokemon and some of Minami's Pokemon are also evolving into their second forms, like Loudred and Kirlia, and I also evolve Whismur into a Loudred as well.

Loudred: The Big Voice Pokemon: Normal Type. Evolve from Whismur at LV:20. Loudred shouts while stamping its feet. After it finishes shouting, this Pokémon becomes incapable of hearing anything for a while. This is considered to be a weak point.

"Now we're here, Route 112." Minami says as we notice Mt. Chimney in front of us. And there is also someone who's waiting for us. Brendan.

"Hm? So it's you guys. You see that mountain up there? That's Mt. Chimney." Brendan says.

"Of course, I know that mountain so well." I say.

"I dunno, but… But seeing it for real is, like… Like a punch in the gut, you know? Hope I might get to take the Cable Car up to the top someday… Hey, guys, doesn't your team seem a bit worse for wear? Here. I'll help them out for you."

He offers to heal our Pokemon, and we are grateful for that. "And why don't you take this?"

He decides to give us the HM for Strength, which is another TM that I already have it. "I bet you can find all kinds of ways to use it in the mountains that lie ahead! Oh… But it won't work out here if you don't have a Badge from Lavaridge Gym. Bah! This is no time to be giving you tricks! I'm supposed to be heading to Fallarbor to visit Professor Cozmo right now! See you later, guys. Next time let's have a battle, OK?"

After he leaves, May asks, "Who's Professor Cozmo?"

"He's a scientist living in Fallabar Town." I say. "He likes to research in space stuff."

"Guys! Look over there!" We notice some Team Magma grunts are riding on the Cable Car. "Team Magma? What are they doing here?"

"I don't know..." Alice says. "And we're not even going to that way as well, we're heading to Fallabar Town for May's Contest, remember?"

"Yeah, as long as they aren't doing something, we can just ignore them." Minami says.

After we get inside the Fiery Path, May looks around and says, "Wow, this place looks hot."

Mark says, "It is a place where we can find some fire Pokemon. Of course, it is hot."

Minami says, "What will we find here?"

Max says, "Let's check it out."

We encounter a bunch of Numel and Camerupt, and they attack us because they think we are intruders, after we calm them down, Team Rocket tries to take all of them, but we know how terrible the Camerupt's Eruption is because of Vicky Winstrate, and they are all sent flying. Then two Numel decide to join Mark and I.

Numel: The Numb Pokemon: Fire and Ground Type. Numel stores magma of almost 2,200 degrees F within its body. If it gets wet, the magma cools and hardens. In that event, the Pokémon's body grows heavy and its movements become sluggish.

And on the road, we meet Daisy, Professor Oak's granddaughter, we greet her and introduce May and Max to her. They are excited to see Professor Oak's relatives, especially Max.

"So what are you doing here, Daisy?" I ask.

"What else? I'm here for the Titan Pokemon of course." Daisy says. "Out of the Fiery Path is the Valley of Steel. I'm trying to see if we can find some Steel Titans."

Before we head outside, Mark captures a Torkoal for himself, and then when we get to the Valley of Steel, we notice another Torkoal that's being attacked by a Skarmory.

"Why are they attacking Torkoal?" I gasp in surprise.

We decide to help him, and we are able to drive off the angry Pokémon. Happy to be rescued, the Torkoal thanks us for accidentally covering them with soot. Suddenly, it hears a noise and runs off into the distance.

"Something strange seems to go around here..." Alice says.

As we are moving forward, the two Magnemite appear and they're attacking us. Pikachu's electric attacks aren't working, and then we have Numel use Flamethrower to drive them off.

"These angry Magnemite and that Skarmory attacking Torkoal with no reason at all? Something tells me that there are strange things in this valley." Daisy says.

A sudden explosion alerts the group, and it is revealed to be Torkoal, who once again is being attacked by Skarmory and three Magnemite. We decide to battle them once more, although our Skitty comes out on their own once more, but they use Assist to help out and drive them away. And there's Torkoal who uses Flamethrower to send Skarmory flying away, but he collapses from exhaustion.

"I think in this Valley of Steel... the Steel Type Pokemon here are very aggressive and they probably think of us as intruders." Mark says.

"Yeah, Torkoal probably got lost and was attacked by the Pokémon, just like we were." Minami says.

"Then I think they'll keep attacking us until we leave this place. Torkoal, I think you should come with us." I say. Torkoal suddenly cries and covers us with soot.

We hear a strange sound and Torkoal suddenly rushes towards it. Daisy says, "That sound must be a Titan Pokemon... one far stronger than the Skarmory and the Magnemite."

We rush to the direction where Torkoal ran, and we notice Team Rocket who are falling into the river in front of us.

"Someone did our job to send them flying?" Alice asks.

And much to our shock, the ground shaking causes May to fall as well. But it's a good thing that May is holding on to the branch. The Magneton is trying to attack May, but Torkoal's Flamethrower is keeping them away.

"I'm losing my grip! Hurry up!" May yells.

Then I decide to tie a rope on myself and save May, and then the others are pulling us up. After we're back up, the Magneton keeps coming back before Torkoal keeps sending it away.

As we follow the river, the Titan Pokemon that we're finding is now in front of us. It's a Steelix.

"A Titan Steelix!" Daisy says.

"So that's what we've been hearing all along." Mark says.

"I get it. Torkoal wants to fight this Steelix this whole time." I say.

Just as the other Steel Pokémon are about to join the battle, Steelix wards them off with its stern gaze. I decide to give commands to Torkoal as I battle the Steelix. I know that Flamethrower is not going to be enough, but I know there is another move that Torkoal can use.

"Use Overheat!" I yell, and the attack manages to land a direct hit. Steelix swats the attack with an Iron Tail, much to my surprise. However, Steelix collapses from exhaustion.

Just as Skarmory and the others are about to swoop in on the match, Steelix rises up again. A few moments pass as Steelix and Torkoal exchange intense stares, but the Steel Pokémon retreat.

"I guess it finally recognized Torkoal's strength." I say. "You're so great, Torkoal."

Then Daisy is happy to record the data of Steelix, so she gives me another one of her own-made badges, the Pendulum Badge. And when we ask Torkoal if he wants to join our group, he happily joins us.

Torkoal: The Coal Pokemon: Fire Type. Torkoal digs through mountains in search of coal. If it finds some, it fills hollow spaces on its shell with the coal and burns it. If it is attacked, this Pokémon spouts thick black smoke to beat a retreat.

After bidding farewell to Daisy, we're back at Route 112, only in the northern part. And we also notice a man standing in front of a tree.

"Mmm-mm. I can smell it. I can smell it right here... The scent of adventure! This is definitely one. It's got to be a Secret Spot. There'll be enough space here to build a crazy super place, or my name's not Aarune!"

The man named Aarune notices us and says, "Yo, young Pokémon Trainers! What can I do you for, hmm?"

Max says, "Huh, we didn't ask for anything."

"Huh? What d'you mean, you didn't ask for anything? Bet your heart you did! Now, now, no need to be shy! After all, we managed to meet! The name's Aarune. Put'er there. Unova-born and twenty-five years old. Spent the last 11 years trying to find myself. Just a vagabond in search of dreams."

After we introduce ourselves, he says, "I'm wandering 'round Hoenn, trying to find a place where I really belong. That's right! A Super-Secret Base!"

"What is a Super Secret Base?" May asks.

"You don't know about Secret Bases? What kind of life is that? Too sad, little sis. Time for a lecture from Uncle Aarune! Let's start with what a Secret Base is... Which is an adventure! Romance! Awesome! For real, it's the best place ever to chill—you, your pals that you let hang out… Since you've got this chance, you oughta learn how to make one. Take this."

He gives us the TM for Secret Power, and he says, "Secret Power can help you find the entrances to hidden places. These entrances... They're full of adventure, all right! That's why I like to throw some spice in there and call 'em Secret Spots!"

He takes us to a tree, and he says, "Like this! See? This right here is a Secret Spot. Doesn't it look like you could just climb right up in this tree? This is exactly the kinda of place to bust out with Secret Power!"

Then as he uses his Flygon to open the Secret Base, we notice a vine coming out of it. "Awww yeah! I never get tired of that! And that's all there is to finding Secret Spots and creating the entrance to a Secret Base. This move is crucial to having a Secret Base. Don't forget, now!"

We get inside the tree's secret base, Max says, "Wow, it is big."

"Mm-hmm! Not a bad layout… See, behind each Secret Spot, you'll find a space like this. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. So basically, whenever you find a Secret Spot, you oughta at least check it out with Secret Power! Just think… Someday this place could be somebody's Secret Base, all decorated and filled with goods and friends… I'd really love to see it like that."

"That might be cool as well." Alice says.

"How about I give you one more tip? When you feel happy about something, you ought to express that feeling. Put it into words! It'll cheer everybody up. So how 'bout you tell me, huh? C'mon. Tell Uncle Aarune what you say when you're totally thrilled!"

"I think 'Awesome' will be my choice." I say.

"Whistle… Awesome? That's good! Know why I asked you that? Isn't it obvious? It's 'cause I can see already that there's plenty in your future to feel happy about! That's just how we roll in the Secret Base life. Every day is full of happy adventures! Aw yeah!"

He looks around the place and says, "Hmm. Now I could go ahead and make a Secret Base right here, but… I get the feeling this layout could be even better for you, little guys! Guess I'm gonna leave this spot for you!"

Just then, he takes out a lot of stuff and places them inside the base. He says, "This will be your Secret Base from now on, little pal! It's yours now, so decorate it, destroy it, do whatever you want! Whatever floats your boat, right? Oh, right. Decorating! See, any Decorations you get will be sent to the PC in your Secret Base automatically. Place 'em around and liven up your base a bit."

He shows us the PC and says, "That there's a PC! That's where you'll find your Decorations. Not that you probably have much, right? Here, I'll give you these to get ya started!"

After giving us more decorations, we are ambushed by Team Rocket, who tries to take the base of their own. After sending them flying, Aarune says, "Oh, RIGHT! One last thing! You can do more than make your own Secret Base. You can visit other people's bases for a bit of fun. If you find a base that belongs to someone else, check it out. And here's the real point. When you check out someone's base, collect the flag you find next to the PC. Heh heh… Something good might come of it! Looks like it's about time for me to hit the road in search of my perfect base! Goodbye for now, but hopefully I'll see you again. If you need me for anything, try dropping in at the Secret Base Guild in Fortree!"

Then we bid him farewell, and we decided to continue forward to Fallabor Town.
