Novel is part of an organization tasked with dueling characters of the multiverse.
His journey has taken him to the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Standing outside the popular restaurant, the Krusty Krab, Novel shuffles his deck into a duel disk as he waits for his opponent.
Stepping out those doors, Spongebob leaves his place of work. He also has a duel disk strapped to his arm. "Remember our deal, okay?" Spongebob says, wanting confirmation of an agreement.
"Of course." Novel reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small ID card with Spongebob's face on it. "If you beat me, you'll get your own official Driver's License."
Spongebob's eyes grow as his excitement is shown, "Oh boy, oh boy! I can't lose this now. Hurry up, I've only got 5 minutes for a break."
"Then please, if you're ready, let's duel."

"I'll set one monster in defense mode, and then place down a face-down card," Spongebob starts out slow, sticking to a basic approach.
"My turn, draw. I normal summon Neo the Magic Swordsman." [Lv4: Light Spellcaster ATK 1700] Novel summons his first monster, a spellcaster warrior. "I'll attack your set monster!" Neo slices the defense card with his sword, revealing it to be Mother Grizzly before being destroyed.
Spongebob laughs. "Mother Grizzly's effect now activates. When destroyed in battle I can special summon Star Boy from my deck in attack position." Spongebob summons a small red Starfish to the field. [Lv: 2 Water Aqua ATK 550] "Star Boy increases the attack of all water monsters by 500, making him 1050. And that's not all. I have my set card, Inferno Reckless Summon. It allows me to special summon two more copies of Star Boy from my deck." True to his word, Spongebob's field now has three of the same starfish monster. "And remember, each one provides the other 500 more powers." The three starfish grow in size to match their power increase.

"I place one card facedown of my own, and end my turn." Novel has put himself in a worse situation after destroying Spongebob's monster.
"It's my go now, and I am ready." Spongebob draws from his deck before making another move. "I use Costdown. By discarding my Mechanical Snail, I can reduce the levels of all monsters in my hand by 2. So now I can normal summon this monster without tribute. I summon Jawsman." [Lvl: 6 Water Beast-Warrior ATK 2600] Spongebob's new monster is a giant shark mutant with more mouths than joints. "Jawsman gains 300 attack for every other water monster I control. And because Jawsman is a water monster, the Star Boys power him up with their effects too." Jawsman grows to that of a behemoth now that he's under the effects of several monster effects.

"I didn't think you could pull off such a strategy." The Novel is surprised by Spongebob's playing.
"I'm full of surprises. Jawsman will now attack Neo!" Spongebob calls his attack. Before it can connect however a barrier appears around Neo.
"Trap card open, Negate Attack. This negates the attack, and ends the battle phase."
"Not bad. But I'll get you next turn." Spongebob ends his turn, confident in his high-powered monsters.
"My turn." Novel draws from his deck. "I activate Spell Sanctuary. When activated we both add a spell card from our decks to the hand. As well, all spell cards are treated as quick-plays as long as they remain on the field."
Novel adds Soul Taker to his hand, while Spongebob adds Turtle Oath. "I activate Soul Taker. It destroys Jawsman, but in exchange, you gain 1000 life points." Jawsman turns to glowing dust before disappearing, the remains are absorbed into Spongebob's duel disk.

"I tribute Neo to advance summon Trance the Magic Swordsman in attack mode." Neo is replaced with a stronger, taller magical warrior. [Lv:6 Earth Spellcaster ATK 2600] "I'll attack Star Boy with Trance!" Novel orders his attack. Trance uses its magic to freeze the monster in place before slicing it down the middle with its sword.

"With one less Star Boy on your field, your other two lose 500 attack points." The two remaining monsters shrink down as they lose points.

"I'll set one card facedown, and end my turn with that. Show me what you've got. I'm hoping you'd give me a thrill."
"Like I said before. I…am…ready!" Spongebob draws his next card with all his passion. "I activate the spell Card of Sanity. We both draw until we have 6 cards." Both players draw until they have a full hand each. "Next, I play the spell, Turtle Oath. Both using Fiend Kraken and Beaver Warrior in my hand as material, I can Ritual summon Crab Turtle in attack mode." [Lv: 8 Water Aqua Ritual ATK 2550]
Spongebob's monster starts out as a regular-sized crab turtle mutant hybrid with one eye, but due to the Star Boys, Crab Turtle grows in size as it gains even more attack points.

"Now that my Crab Turtle is the strongest monster on the field, I'll use it to attack Trance!" Spongebob's monster goes in for the kill, grabbing Trance in its large pincer.
"I activate my trap card, Gift of the Mystical Elf. I gain 300 life points for each monster on the field. Your three monsters, plus my Trance, that's four," Novel is quick with his trap, gaining more life points by the trap's magical influence.

It doesn't stop the attack however. With Spongebob's ace monster, Trance is crushed by Crab Turtle. The spellcaster is cut in half by the pincers, heavily damaging Novel's life points.

"It's not over yet. I still have my two Star Boys left." Spongebob's last two monsters gang up on Novel. Spitting bubbles from their mouths, their combined efforts reduce Novel's life points down to almost nothing.

"Lucky you had that trap card, or else this would have been over. I end my turn and pass it back to you. Next turn for sure, I'll beat you." Spongebob's confidence is glowing, although it can be mistaken for cockiness.
"Draw. I must thank you. Because of your spell card, I now have everything I need to beat you. I activate Incandescent Ordeal, a ritual spell. By using the Cosmo Queen in my hand as material, I ritual summon Legendary Flame Lord in attack more." [Lv: 7 Fire Spellcaster Ritual ATK 2400] "Of course, because he's a fire monster, he loses some attack, but that won't be a problem for long."

"Your monster isn't strong enough to defeat Crab Turtle. It can't even beat Star Boy."
"That doesn't matter. What does matter, is how I will beat you with three spell cards starting now. First I use Oozaki. This inflicts 800 damage to your life points directly." Spongebob is hit by a sudden burst of flames. With the spell card resolving, Flame Lord gains a counter on their staff.

"Next I activate Card Destruction. We both discard our hands and draw a new one." As both refill their hands, another counter appears on Flame Lord's staff. "Finally, I equip him with Megamorph. This equip spell will double his attack points as long as I'm losing." Flame Lord's flames become larger as the third counter is placed.

"I now activate the effects of Legendary Flame Lord. I remove three counters from him to destroy all over monsters on the field." Novel's monster ignites the field, engulfing all other monsters in flames, reducing them to nothing. With Star Boy, his full attack is unlocked.

"Now with no monsters left on your field, Legendary Flame Lord will attack you directly!" Spongebob is helpless when Novel calls their attack. Spongebob is consumed by flames before his life points reach zero.

Spongebob falls to his knees, defeated. Before he can act, Novel holds out a blank card from his pocket.
"Hold your breath," he says before a blinding light emerges from the blank side. The light consumes Spongebob. He gets absorbed into the playing card, leaving behind nothing but the dust under his shoes. "Now onto the next story."
