It was, by far, the weirdest gathering in the Ring of Doom. Not because of all the different peoples represented, because that had happened before.
No, it was the weirdest because of the announcement made by Manwë.
"There will be children, of the Ainur. Full-blooded, this time." The Elder King briefly inclined his head towards Luthien, standing with her mother and father. "Or maybe not, depending." He quirked a faint smile.
"How... how are we to understand this?" Someone asked, though it was unclear who, from where he was standing.
"The Second Song was much like the first, save un-Marred." Varda was the one to explain. Clearly, at least all the Valar had already been informed of whatever it was that brought this about. "But there are bound to be differences. Including Ainur that did not do so the first time, wishing to descend into the Second Song. Some of them simply choose not to do so for some reason, but some..." Star-bright eyes briefly flicked to Mairon, the only remnant of what had once Marred Eä. "Some only came to be because of the Marring, so only now having the chance to do so."
He blinked at that statement. "Because since every time we exert our full power - shall we say - it results in devastation, it would be too dangerous for them to descend in full power." Tulkas made a face, rolling his eyes. "I nearly unsettled Almaren on my own, when I came into Arda."
"So it was decided that any new arrivals are to grow into their power, letting the lands and Songs adapt to their presence slowly, to keep from causing damage." Yavanna tapped a rhythm on her armrest, the branches that made it up roiling along. "And the best way to do that, is to start from baby and grow to adulthood."
"Which then resulted in the conclusion that babies were now a thing." Vána chuckled.
Manwë cleared his throat briefly. "Which we felt obliged to inform you about, at any rate."
Well, wasn't that a development no one had seen coming.
