AN: Short chapter, but 1) I wasn't planning on writing anything while I'm dealing with midterms for the next couple of weeks, and 2) I've had this scene bouncing around in my head for a while now, and couldn't think of a larger framework to attach it to. But I ended up really wanting to write it today as a quickie writing project and figured there wasn't any harm in just leaving it as is. If you're the kind of person who's bothered by short chapters, deal with it. I don't work for you.
Mr. Haziq: It's not a 1:1 thing. As explained in Stupor Heroics proper, Lori's power is to convert conventional energy into a form of cosmic energy that powers her other abilities. Her strength is dependent on how much energy she has to fuel it, so the limit is one of practicality. Easily accessible forms of energy, like electricity, aren't efficient enough to let her use her powers willy-nilly, so the limit is mainly one of practicality, because tanking the local power grid (and driving up the family electric bill) to keep herself topped off wouldn't go over too well with the normies. And as we saw in the last chapter, taking in too much, too quickly, makes her weird and manic. In the main story, she eventually learns that solar energy is way more efficient and more or less allows her to use her powers with impunity, as long as she doesn't push herself too hard and makes regular trips into space (or more like, the mesosphere, I guess) to fill up. Whether she'll figure that out in this story remains to be seen.
ReadersCantRead: You said all that needs to be said. Lori is good civilization. Though, Loricoln is better civilization.
Wolvenstrom: It's Rusty. But yeah, it is, and that's something addressed by this quickie.
phil34metro: Thank you. Hoping it'll eventually get extreme to the max :).
guest: Because this is canon Linc, who is a short king. He didn't get powers. And also, Lynn's the only one whose powers gave her any major physical changes. Well, the only one of the Louds, anyway.
364wii: Agreed on all three counts. Especially on the Lynncoln.
"Finally, we're home!" Lynn grumbled as Vanzilla rolled to a stop in the Loud family driveway. "I never thought I'd say this, but the gym sucks!"
There was a small amount of difficulty involved in the process of the brunette extracting herself from Vanzilla's passenger side without damaging the vehicle, but eventually, she successfully managed the delicate procedure, rewarding herself with a big stretch as her over-sized frame freed itself from the confinement from a compartment designed for people at least several heads shorter than her, and significantly less broad.
"So you've said," Lori replied, hopping out of the driver's side of the van. "Many, many, many times over the drive home. Which is literally like, a five-minute drive."
"And I meant it every time," Lynn muttered. "Seriously. I'm never doing that again."
Lori snorted in bemusement as she waited for Lynn to circle around the family van. "Like it or not, Lynn, you're a Hot Gym Girl now, that kind of thing comes with the territory. You should learn to enjoy it more, I know a lot of girls who'd kill to get the kind of attention you were pulling down. Literally kill. Like, with knives and stuff."
"Plus," She added as Lynn rounded the van, meeting her on the driver's side, "Can you blame them when you look like that," Lori gestured to the gym shorts and tank top combo Lynn was sporting. Not that Lori's own outfit was much more conservative, but on Lynn both articles of clothing were stretched so tautly across the younger girl's amazonian curves that they almost looked painted on.
"Hey!" Lynn protested. "Okay: one, I can't help looking like this."
"None of us can, sweetie," Lori interjected with a smirk.
"You know what I mean," Said Lynn, shooting a glare at the older girl. "After that last growth spurt, this is all I've got that'll fit me. Leni said that even the big and tall shops have to order bigger and taller stuff for me. Second, I told those guys to back off and they still wouldn't!"
"They seemed harmless enough," Lori replied, giggling as a memory surfaced. "It was kind of cute when that one guy declared that you were his 'Swole-Mate.'"
"He was lucky I was mid-pump when he pulled that," Lynn growled, as the pair began making their way to the front door. "Also, gross Lori. I'm thirteen, in case you forgot. Those guys had to be at least twice my age."
"Probably not that old, but..." Lori put one comforting hand on Lynn's broad shoulder. "I get it. You weren't having fun with that."
"No, I wasn't," Lynn snapped, shaking her head emphatically. "Working out is supposed to be how I relax. But all those weirdos fawning over me just made me even more tense!"
She stopped, and inhaled deeply, her whole body visibly trembling as she forced herself to calm down.
"Look, I'm just not ready for that kind of stuff, alright?" She said, giving Lori a sidelong glance. "You and Leni are probably used to guys falling all over themselves just to talk to you, but I'm not. It was bad enough getting this kind of attention from Rusty, but this was so much worse. Not to mention, embarrassing. When we left, I was seconds away from snapping and...I dunno, smashing heads together, or something"
"Fair enough," Lori agreed. "We've all had to deal with some big changes lately, but...sometimes I forget that your changes were some of the biggest. Still, those guys were being pretty harmless." She lightly flexed her arm. "You know there's no way I'd let some random gym bro seriously try to put the moves on any of my little sisters, right?"
"...I guess," Lynn nodded, seemingly mollified by the declaration of sisterly protection.
"Good," Lori chuckled, giving Lynn a friendly clap on the back. "And hey! On the plus side, now we know for sure that you're definitely gonna have your pick of the fellas once you're ready for it."
"Please," Lynn scoffed, rolling her eyes as she patiently waited for Lori to unlock the front door.
"Okay," Lori amened. "Gal-las, if that's your thing. No judgment."
"I meant that I'm not like you guys, alright?"
With a deft twist of the knob, Lori opened the door and stepped back, allowing her younger sister the first right of entry.
"I'm just not into all that mushy-gushy stuff," Lynn said, confidently, as she pushed the door open and began stepping through. "And I'm pretty sure I never will be. I'm Lynn, freaking, Loud. Lynn Loud doesn't have time for romance, she's too busy being awesome!"
"And talking in the third person?"
"Lynn Loud is strong!" The brunette continued. "Independent! And…!"
She halted mid-stride. Literally, with one foot out, as if she'd started the hokey pokey and forgotten what she was doing.
"And what?" Lori asked, looking up at her not-so-little sister expectantly, but Lynn simply stood there, seemingly frozen in place. However, a closer inspection revealed that this wasn't quite the case. The younger girl's body was being wracked by tiny tremors, which ran all the way from her powerful legs up to her face, which stared wide-eyed at something, her mouth agape. Lori waited for as long as it took for it to feel like she was being polite, but when the only move the brunette made was to begin gaping, like a drowning fish, Lori's patience immediately ran out. She walked up to the frozen amazon, gently shoulder her aside, poked her head in through the front door…
...and sighed.
"Lincoln," She deadpanned, "I thought we'd all agreed that you'd keep your comic book reading to your room."
True to form, her little brother was splayed out on the couch, clad in his lucky, bright red briefs, and literally nothing else. An Ace Savvy comic book was clutched protectively against his bare chest, giving him the tiniest semblance of modesty. But, knowing Lincoln as she did, Lori was almost certain that his embarrassment came not from his lack of clothing, but from being caught in the act.
"E-everyone was gone," Lincoln said, flushing slightly, and more or less confirming Lori's presumption. "And I thought you guys would...um, would be gone longer."
"...Please don't tell mom?" He added a moment later, his tone halfway between pleading and asking.
Lori rolled her eyes, but try as she might, she couldn't keep the grin she was trying to keep under wraps from breaking out onto her face.
"I won't," She admitted. "But that's not gonna do much if she finds you like this. Either put on some pants, or get back to your room."
"I will," Lincoln said, nodding hurriedly as he leaped to his feet.
"Thanks Lori!" He shouted, as he darted past the girls and began leaping up the steps. "And you too, Lynn!"
Lori shook her head, bemused, as she watched her little brother disappear up the stairs.
"Love that little dork," She chortled, as she turned to her sister. "Any chance you're going to move under your own power any time soon? You're kind of blocking the door."
"Buh…" Said Lynn, her mouth seemingly struggling to form words, and her face as scarlet as her shorts. "Buh...buuuuuh…"
"I'll take that as a no." Drawing on her energy reserves, she grabbed Lynn around her torso, picked her up, and pulled her through the doorway.
"So much for being strong and independent," Lori muttered, closing the door behind Lynn.
