Who said that? And did he just call me princess?
Talia thought as she put down her hand and straightened up from the wall, looking around cautiously.
"I gotta say, I didn't really think you had it in you…i guess princess uptight can be a little unhinged sometimes…" the mysterious voice called out to her again.
Assuming a battle stance, she looked around and realised the street was fairly busy. Thee last thing she needed to do was start using magic in front of these earthlings.
She assumed a normal stance, brought out her taser and looked around as she said, "who are you? Show yourself!"
"Show myself? Okay princess…"
He stepped out of the building next to the one Talia had previously leaned on, the streetlights up ahead illuminating his features.
With a smirk curling his lips, his dishwater blonde curls framing his face, and the familiar green eyes alight with mischief, he still looked exactly the same as he did the last time he saw her…completely unrecognizable.
His emerald eyes never left her gold as he slowly approached her. It was the same guy who had been watching her all night at Nates.
I don't understand, I've never seen this guy in my life... Talia puzzled as to where she might have known the stranger from.
"And as for who I am…" he paused for dramatic effect and tilted his head to the side. He put his hand on his chest as though in pain, donning a wounded expression as he said "I'm hurt that you don't recognize me princess.."
She hadn't heard a thing that left his mouth as she stared deeply into his eyes, mesmerized. All she could see were those eyes..his eyes…
Eyes that had challenged her several times in battle. Eyes that mocked her weakest and even stongest moments. Eyes that mocked her even now…
Recognition spread like wildfire on her face as she realized who he was.
"Mephisto…?" she whispered slowly to herself. He had different clothes, different hair, even a different face but the same gorgeous jade eyes.
He smirked as he said, "In the flesh! well not technically in the flesh…but let's see what we can do to change that, shall we?"
He snapped his fingers and a swirl of colors engulfed him. It was only for two seconds, but when it stopped, he was dressed in his usual attire, his hair its familiar plum color, that same stupid smirk on his now recognizable face.
"What…?" was the only thing Talia could think to say at the moment.
"What am I doing disguised as a ridiculous earthling?" He asked, taking a step towards her, "Well, prax had some important matters to take care of in Ephedia and left me to the chore of watching you and your little friends. Don't worry though, she'll be back first thing tomorrow."
She stood transfixed, unable to even speak. She wanted to use a crystal to blast him back to his sister, yet she found herself unable to.
He took about three more steps, emboldened by the fact that she wasn't attacking him. There were only a few inches between them as he continued, "At first it was really boring, watching from afar and doing nothing, but then I had the genius idea to camouflage myself and observe you from up close…"
On the word "observe" he leaned in so close Talia was certain that his lips would brush hers. Suddenly deciding that that was close enough, she snapped out of her trance, her hands lighting up.
But before she could even utter a "crystal", he disappeared. She assumed a battle stance again, becoming acutely aware of her surroundings. How could you let him get away? She asked herself. why didn't you attack?! She stared from right to left, up and down trying to figure out where he could have teleported to.
She nearly jumped when, after a second, he appeared at her side, so close to her ear she could feel his breath as he whispered, "at first I was just going to attack you when you got to the smoothie bar…but I noticed you had a date, and I couldn't resist watching the most stuffy of the three princesses interact romantically…"
Her golden eyes widened in shock at his words. How dare he watch my disaster of a "date"?
She turned quickly to blast him, just as he teleported again, her crystal knocking over a trash can nearby.
She was getting slightly frustrated. He had lots of opportunities to fight back and maybe possibly win..yet he was playing some kind of game with her. Well, Mephisto was never really the brains of his and Praxinas operation.
She barely had time to recover her equilibrium before she felt a warmness of breath that jolted her from her train of thought.
"Calm down princess…I'm not the one who cheated on you, now am I? Nor am I the douchebag you just sat through three horrid hours with."
The heat of his breath sent a slight tingling sensation, from her ear all the way down deep in her stomach, making her feel something that scared and fascinated her.
He tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as he whispered slowly in a voice full of promise, his breath warm on her neck "I'm just the guy who could possibly make you feel better..."
She gasped. What does that mean? She asked herself. But before she had the chance to crystal-collidum an answer out of him, he vanished again.
She felt herself become all heated and flustered in the blink of an eye. She had a lot of pent up rage that needed dispensing. "Ugh, just stay still so I can hurt you with my crystal!"
"You're actually adorable when you're mad, you know that, right?" Mephisto called suddenly from the rooftop of Nate's bar.
Talia looked up, and immediately shot a crystal at him. But he disappeared again as she yelled, "get down here and fight me you coward! And you did not just call me adorable!" He had to have been mocking her, there was no other explanation for it.
"So along with being stuffy, uptight, and absolutely adorable, you're also hard of understanding?" Mephisto mocked, now sitting on the roof of the building opposite Nates.
She looked around and spotted him, her anger balling her hands into tight fists. First he mocks me, now he insults me? Yeah, okay…he's finished.
She was just about to shoot another crystal at him before she paused and really assessed the situation. He wasn't attacking her, just mocking her and deflecting her attacks and each time he did, he seemed to be moving farther and farther away.
This was very clearly an ambush. He was trying to lead her to something, or somwehere. She had the option of going into Nates right now to get Iris and Auriana and finish this thing here and now. But she wasn't going to. She was angry, tired and frustrated and needed something or someone to take it out on, and it just so happened that he appeared to her now and play some of his little games. In a way, he's asking for this, she thought to herself.
She checked her arm to see to see if her bracelet was glowing, and it wasn't. And if hers wasn't glowing, it meant Iris and Aurianas' jewels weren't either, which also meant that there wasn't really any actual danger. Mephisto had never really been a serious threat. Praxina maybe, but not Mephisto.
It was stupid, stubborn and wreckless of her to even consider it, but she was tired of always having to keep her composure and be the responsible one, and being the vengeful one was very fun as she had learned this evening.
Okay mephisto, I'll play your little game. She thought smirking.
Suddenly he was on the ground, still on the opposite side of the street. He conjured up a slide from his crystals that had no specific pattern and began and ended at odd places, and began running sure-footed on them.
She smiled, grateful she had decided to wear her shorts and her strapped sandals as she conjured up her own crystal slide and followed him closely.
She chased him all the way from Nates bar to the woods, shooting crystals at him whenever she had an open shot, sometimes missing, and other times hitting him but not hard enough to leave a mark or knock him down. She knew it was because she was disoriented. On a good day, with all the shots she made, mephisto would have been planted facedown, unconscious or severely hurt, but today wasn't a good day, and with every miss or failure to knock him down when even she managed to hit him, she grew angrier and more frustrated, which was very unusual for her, so calming down and properly strategizing was completely out of the question.
At this point he had every opportunity to knock her down and hurt her severely because she was off her game, but everytime he turned back to fire a crystal at her he missed, and not because his aim was off, but because he wasn't aiming at her.
He eventually managed to hit her with a small shard of one his crystals that had hit the ground and scattered near her. It flew off the ground, hitting her cheek, and the result of this was a small red line.
She had stopped suddenly and yelled, "ow!".
He turned to her, saw the small wound and cringed visibly, as though it had physically hurt him to hurt her. He yelled a "sorry" to her, and began making his was over to her, but that only enraged her more as she grunted, firing a crystal at him.
he stepped back, but he was in easy firing range, so the crystal hit him, but not enough to inflict any serous damage. It ran along the side of his chest, ripping the topmost part of his shirt and taking a bit of skin with it.
He shrieked as he saw a line of red forming on his chest. But suddenly and to her agitated surprise, he smirked as he said "that's fair, plus I have lots of shirts like this."
He tore the ripped bottom half, took the rest over his head and before she knew it, she was ogling at a shirtless Mephisto. He had a firm broad chest, his biceps bulging with muscle, his six pack abs so defined they looked like they had been drawn on.
woah. she thought to herself, recoiling slightly. She stared lower past his abs and saw his pants were hanging in that way that boy pants do…In a way that leaves much and little to the imagination at the same time.
Talia felt herself hold her breath, eyes widening as he pulled the button of his pants between his thumb and forefinger, as though he wanted to take off his pants.
She was jolted from her transfixion, as he snapped his fingers suddenly, an arrogant smirk on his face as he said, "I know its hard princess, because I'm pretty irresistible, but my eyes are up here."
Her pretty brown skin took up a red tint as he flushed in embarrassment. She had been staring at him, – and down there for that matter – and he had caught her.
In her embarrasment and sudden anger at him for teasing her, she shot another crytal at him, but he didn't even have to move, because she missed by a long shot.
"If only your aim was as good as your ogling." He chuckled.
She hadn't even opened her mouth to reply before he turned suddenly, conjuring up another slide and continuing his sprint.
Talia found herself flushing at his statement. what was that? She asked herself, you did not just ogle at Mephisto. Am I…? Wait- No, I'm not! There's no way that's even possible!
Mephisto was an attractive guy, that was plain to see. He had a bountiful mess of Burgundy curls atop his head, eyes a deep sea of jade, his lips so delicate and gently curved, it looked as though they had been sculpted by a master craftsman…and his body as she had seen just now was equally as perfect as his face.
But although he was beautiful on the outside, he was extremely ugly on the inside. He was arrogant, annoying and evil. Plus he worked for Gramorr and was her enemy which only made him uglier, and that internal ugliness made him ugly on the outside too, at least to Talia. So there was absolutely no way she was attracted to him or found him remotely attractive. She was about to speak it aloud to herself to further cement its truth, before she realized he was getting away.
Snapping out of her thoughts, she quickly created her own crystal slide and began following him closely behind. At the ending of the forest, she realized she could no longer see him. He couldn't have gone very far, he was just in front of me. plus we've been running in a straight line since nates, so he's most likely still doing that.
She trudged up the forming slope, following a narrow path peppered with bushes and shrubs, until she saw the head of a large mound of rock overhead. She walked further until she realized that it wasn't a large rock, but a cave. A shadow stood at the entrance of the gaping hole and Talia frowned.
She walked closer and closer till she could make out what, or rather who, the shadow was. "Took ya long enough," mephisto mused.
"You brought me out here to kill you in a large hole in a rock where no one can find you?" Talia smirked. "Odd way to go out don't you think?"
"First off, its a cave…You'd think the great princess Talia of xeris would know how to identify a cave." Mephisto mocked, "secondly, if you wanted to kill me you would have done it by now and you know that."
"You sure about that…?" Talia said as her hands began to light up.
"As sure as the-" he had started to say before teleporting to avoid the heavy crystal Talia had launched his way. She rolled her eyes as she whispered. "coward."
"You're gonna have to do better than that, princess…" he called suddenly, his voice echoing from somewhere deep in the black cave.
"Oh I fully intend to!" Talia called back as she took a tentative step into the black cave.
It wasn't the haunting dark purple crystal, splayed jaggedly around a short flight of steps, the odd slight slope of the cave, or even the smell of years worth of bat droppings that caught her attention, It was none of that. It was the waterfall streaming from the walls, that reflected…photos? Interesting design choice. But as she treaded carefully down the stairs, stepping deeper into the cave, she realized that it wasn't in fact photos, but it was something of videos. Suddenly she heard familiar bubbly laughter and took a closer look to find Iris and auriana, still at nates, helping clean up. Auriana was laughing heartily, at something Doug said, and iris and Nate where staring all glossy-eyed at each other and whispering, wiping down the counter.
"You've been spying on us?" Talia shrieked in realisation, her eyes widening in horror.
Mephisto appeared suddenly in front of Talia, an exasperated expression gracing his features "Well yeah! how do you think we always know where you are, what you're doing and how to find you?"
She had just reached out to knee him in the shins when her disappeared again. She redened suddenly as a thought flashed across her mind. "wait…if- if you've been watching us all this time, what-...what exactly have you seen?"
"Relax princess. The extent of my…research doesn't go that far. I may be evil, but I'm no pervert." She turned towards the direction of his voice, and found him leaning sleezily on the wall at the entrance of the cave.
She charged at him, yelling as she shot a crystal at him. "Spying on people is still creepy!"
He disappeared again and she shrieked. "What sort of dumb game are you playing with me? I don't have time for this, just…COME OUT SO I CAN KILL YOU!"
He appeared again suddenly a few feet away. "Woah…easy there princess. You called for me. here I am…"
She saw red as she charged towards him as a bull charges toward a matador. Her hands began to take on their usual blue glow, when suddenly she tripped, falling roughly on something…a stone? She landed painfully, her hands and knees breaking her fall, but she didn't feel it. Undeterred from the little mishap, she flipped herself over, attempting to stand. She looked quickly towards the cause of her fall and saw it was black crystal. She frowned. He's gonna pay for that. Her palms had barely hit the cold ground of the cave, before they were suddenly encased in the same black stuff. He also crystalized her feet which were spread out before her.
She squirmed desperately, trying for cracks, or lose spots, anything that would aid to her getting out of the thing. She scowled deeply at the realization that he was getting better with his crystals. Mephisto who had been idly watching her squirm against his crystals, a bemused smirk on his face, slowly came around and stopped in front of her. He towered over her in a gloating stance, smiling at her scowl which only deepened when she saw the smugness of his face.
She should have seen this coming. It was way too easy. He practically begged her to come at him and like a gullible fool, she did. Suddenly she realized that this is why she controls her emotions, because when she's hurt or angry, she doesn't think and makes lots of stupid decisions. Now if she had taken the time to calm down and regroup, she wouldn't be here, now, on the floor, at his mercy.
Suddenly squatting, Talia thought briefly about how close he was, so close that she was sure if she moved an inch, her lips would touch his. "Talia, Talia, Talia" he stretched his hand, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, "...this is why we think before we act."
Ignoring how warm the slight brush of his skin against her face felt, she fumed. how dare he try to teach me the lesson I teach others? "If you're gonna kill me, do it now! Because when I get out of here trust I won't hesitate to kill you!"
Tilting his head thoughtfully, he considered her for a moment. "Talia," he sighed, "I'm not going to kill you…"
"I'll shove your own crystal in your-...wait…what?" She paused analyzing his words "youre-...you're not going to kill me?"
"No…im not,"
Her brows were furrowed quizzically, "i-...then…what are you gonna do to me?"
He drew an imaginary line with his forefinger from her cheek to her chin "...whatever you want me to do to you Talia."
She stared at him deeply, checking for traces of humor but found none. Her chest heaved anxiously as she stared, utterly confused, into his eyes. "What-...I don't-" she stammered out "what are you even talking about?"
With all the sincerity he could muster, he replied, "I just want to make you happy Talia…"
