A Daring Rescue

Humphrey is standing at the edge of the cliff looking down into the treacherous mud slide down below he knows its a damgerous endeavor to save the wolf in distress but can he do it he got lucky with kate but this was diffrent there are no vines or easy way down to the bottom to reach the wolf down below.

Humphrey could hear the strained screams for help comming from below there was no more time to think only time to do without a second thought humphry jumped.

Once he jumped it felt like he was falling forever before he plunged into the sludge below. the inital hit knoced the breath out of him maby a sixty foot drop was too much but he had no choice he kicked and clawed as hard as he could against the thick , slowing sludge after almost twenty seconds he was able to get his head above the mud to gasp in a deep breath of ait into his burning lungs. with all of his might he swam to the side if the cravess able , looking around not even twenty five yards away there sitting on a log a small wolf was clinging on for dear life pleaing for help.

with a burst of courage humphrey didnt know he had he pushed of the bank and swam to the log swalloing some vile tasting sludge along the way.

After almost ten min of fighting the mud slide he made it to the log.

humphrey pov - ughhh im almost out of strength this is not good but im here now no turning back. humphrey yelld out '" I want to to get on my back and hold on as hard as you can if you need too you can use your teeth to latch on just what ever you do DO NOT LET GO , are you ready" the stranger replied while sobbing " i will do it but im scard what what if we cant get across i dont want to die ". humphrey spoke " look i promise you will be fine pleas trust me , we cant stay here.

with my words of encouragement the stranger got on my back and they are heave im not shure ill make it but i must try.

i decide its tom so i push off the log and the current was immediatly treacherous i could barley move.

i can see the side of the river of mud its maby fourty feet out im almost there come on dammit i can make it thirty feet ahhhhhhh twenty feet this is it im going to make it , ten feet , i can feel my paw pads stsrt to graze the bottom of the muddy bank side the mud is still neck deep i need to keep going.

humphrey made it to the shore line not even five steps out of the mud and humphrey collapses from exhaustion. the small wolf clung to humphrey sobbing in silence like he was her life line. Thirty min go by both wolves still laying on the ground covern in mud when humphrey lets out a painfull groan as hr tries to get to his paws.

With some effort he was able to get into a sitting possition, his whole body still burning from the grusome task he performed when he realized the wolf was still clinging on to him

humphrey decided to bring the wolf to his den and provide further aid. The walk back was slow and painfull as he did not recover fully from the muddy adventure he went on to save the wolf. While walking to his den humphrey could feel the small wolf stirring in thier sleep in his back , after another ten min of walking he reached his den it was not the bet den but it was home to him.

humphrey pov - I just set the small wolf down i assume its a puppy buy the size.

I am going to get some water to clean the mystrey wolf and when they wake up ill ask some questions about how this all happend.

while walking through the forest to the lake i admired the beauty of this place im glad i returned here it truely is beautifull , now how will i get water back to my den…oh yes bark from the tree it will hold the water like a make shift bowl , i bet this haluf ritten tree that looks like lightning hitit at one point will have bark suitable for the task at hand.

I grab a large peice and pull with a crunching soung it rips off in a curved oblong shape its not perfect but it will do now to fill the bouw and head home.

unknown pov - i woke up in a strange place when all of a sudden a flash back of what happend hit me but im a no body who would want to save me im just a weak runt.

huuu i can hear a wolf approching i can run away from rhem my body is in no condition the only thing i can to is face them and hope they kill me quickly.

Humhrey had no idea the wolf woke up as he continued to the entrance of the den he could hear what sounded like crying once he was about ten feet from the entrance he put the water doun and walked inside to the sight of a tiny wolf pup crying, he approched the pup

unknown spoke in a scared sobbing tone - "pleas dont hurt me ill leave please ill go away."

humphrey replied in a soft tone as he got closer to the pup "im not here to hurt you , im the one who saved to from the mud slide you were in a really bad spot and i wasnt going to leave you to die and hey by the way what happed why are you out here alone anyway and whats your name my name is humphrey.?''

Grace spoke in a more calm tone '" my name is grace and i was with my mom , out pack didnt want mo and dad togther so they killed my dad and my mom took me and we ran away b…b…bu…but shesss gone too. i was scared i was running when i fell down that cliff and into the mud."

humphrey with a dreary tone spoke " i know how you feel my parents died while i was a pup too and i was all alone after that i know its painfull….

After thinking for a while in silence humphrey spoke in a nervous tone "hey since you are alone and im all alone too how about i adopt you , i mean if you want to of course".

grace spoke in a deppresed tone "reall why would you want a burdeon like me to deal with , im usless i got my mom and dad killed and i cant even take care of myself i would be better of dead you should of left me to die thats what i deserved'."

humphrey looked into her eyes and spoke softly but firmly "look pup it is not your fault sometimes bad things happen to the ones we love, you are not worthless i promise you that i know you are in great pain and ill make you a deal you dont haluf to decide om me adopting you yet i want you to stay with me for a week and if you still feel like you are better off alone or worse ill let you go but please give me a chance."

Grace was sitting there pondering humphreys proposal it couldnt hirt to see what would happed so she accepted his offer after that humphrey brought in the water and told the pup it was bath time so she could get the mud out of her fur. After almost an hour of scrubbing and rinsing he could finnialy see the pups features , she was avg size for a fup but her eyes were crystal blue almost the same as his and her coat was a light grey with some black spotting around her face area and her underbelly was smow white , het two front paws were black with a hint of grey in them she was beautiful humphrey could not believe what the cute little pup been through.

It was humphreys goal to get her to stay as he knows she will die if she is alone and it might be good for him too.

25 miles away

kate sat in the train she knew she was getting close to idaho he whole body was shaking she was so nervous will he forgive her of tell het to leave it was making kate sick to her stomach thinking himphrey would reject her even if she deserved it for now all she could do is stare at the trees going while thinking of him.

Thirty min later kate seen the sign welcome to idaho it was time to get off the train find humphrey!
