Thank you to everyone who read the last chapter! When I first started this chapter I thought Bakura would be hard to write but nope! He's been fun to write. I don't own characters or Dialogue from the show it belongs to Kazuki Takahashi, Toei, Shueisha, Konami, etc own the others. I own Sara though.
The next couple of days seem to go on forever, at least to Sara. Her time with her Papa calmed her, but after that, it was like she was on pins and needles waiting for Sunday night.
~Sunday night~
Alexis looked at Sara. "I'm surprised you're in bed before me." She said before brushing her teeth. Sara was in bed, covering herself up to her neck. "I'm just tired." She fake yawned. After she finished, Alexis eyed her suspiciously. "It's not like you finish getting ready for bed before me." She said knowingly. Sara smiled innocently. "Maybe I am that tired." She suggested. Alexis sighed. "Whatever. Let's get some sleep." She said, turning out the bathroom light. Alexis slipped under her covers and closed her eyes.
Waiting for Alexis to go to sleep was agonizing. The seconds that passed seemed to go on forever. It wasn't until an hour and a half later that Alexis's breaths slowed down, signaling that she finally was asleep."Thank god. I didn't know how much longer I could have waited." She thought as she glanced at the numbers on her clock, 10:30 P.M.
Sara threw her covers off. She was wearing black from head to toe. She got out of bed, quickly got on her boots, and grabbed her keys before sneaking out the door. Getting to the gate was easy since everybody was already asleep. When she arrived at the gate, Sara was surprised to see a familiar man with a ponytail and green eyes. "Mr. Devlin?!" She exclaimed loudly. Duke shushed her. "Be quiet, we don't want anyone to know." He whispered. Sara nodded. "Of course." She agreed. Duke eyed the duffle bag she carried. "Is that it?" He asked, pointing at the bag. Sara nodded. "Yes." She confirmed. Duke smirked as he opened the car door. "Is this the runt?" A menacing-like voice assumed from the front seat. Duke rolled his eyes. "Yes, this is Sara." He confirmed his assumption. "Get in." He ordered. Sara raised an eyebrow but did what he said anyway. After she closed the door, They were moving. "Sorry, that's just Bakura." He apologized. Sara nodded, then looked at Duke. "So you're the spy." She stated knowingly. Duke chuckled. "Yeah." Sara looked at him. "Why you?" She wondered. Duke smirked. "I'm one of the best." He boasted simply. Sara nodded. "I'll trust you for now." She said, still weary. Duke smiled. "Good on you. In this work, you have no idea who you can trust and who can't. So keep your guard up." He said knowingly. "So Bakura, how'd you get involved in this?" She wondered. Bakura glanced through the rearview mirror. "None of your business, runt." He grunted.
Sara leaned over. "Is he always grumpy?" She asked quietly, gesturing to Bakura. "Grumpy, GRUMPY? Listen here! We are here to help you get the objective, and that's it! You got that?" He roared, his blazing from the rearview mirror. Sara gulped and nodded. Duke glared at the front seat. "You didn't have to do that, you know." He said knowingly. Bakura glanced at Duke. "Got her to shut up, didn't she?" He shot back.
The rest of the ride to wherever they were going was silent. When they stopped, it was a while later, "We're here." Bakura announced before he got out. Both Duke and Sara followed suit. Sara's jaw dropped when she saw where they were breaking in. "The bank? We're breaking into a bank?" She exclaimed. Bakura chuckled darkly. "Is the runt scared?" He accused her. She glared at the white-haired man. "No! I just didn't think it'd be at a high-security place." She explained. Duke shook his head. "This bank isn't highly secured. It has the basic security system a general store does. But we'll need what's in that bag of yours." He explained. Sara nodded as she slung off the duffle bag onto the ground.
After opening the bag, they looked through it. They found some gadgets such as EMPs and some other devices. "Some of these we can't use," Sara said knowingly.
Bakura gathered some EMPs and some rope. "I'll knock out the guards and the security cameras. "Look for the signal before coming in," Bakura said, leaving as if he was never there.
After they put the duffel bag in the back of the car, they walked away. "Well, we should get out of sight before we're spotted," Duke stated as he grabbed some rope, went to the side of the building, tossed it, and tied it to one of the gargoyles. Sara followed suit and saw that Duke had started to climb. "Ok. You can do this." She encouraged herself as she climbed up after him.
It took a while, but Sara made it up the wall. Duke grabbed her hand. "I got you." He said as he helped her up. Sara perched herself next to Duke on the edge of the roof. "We might be up here for a while. Why don't we get to know each other." He suggested. Sara shrugged. "Might as well. It's better than waiting in silence." She said knowingly. "You know, I knew your dad when he was part of the rebellion," Duke murmured. Sara stared at him in disbelief. "You did?" She said, shocked. Duke nodded. "I did." He confirmed.
"Was he any different than now?" She wondered. Duke nodded. "He would do anything not to let a bystander get hurt. So when he got into a fight with Muto with people around, I was surprised." He explained. Sara sighed. "They were under the orichalcos rage." She stated simply. Duke sighed. "But why Muto? I know he's an arrogant and stubborn son of a bitch, but why him?" He wondered. "I guess Dad never told him who my other parent was. Well, if he didn't, then I'm not either." She thought knowingly. "They knew each other when they went to school and didn't part on good terms." She answered vaguely. Duke knew he wouldn't get anything else out of her. "So, anything else you want to talk about?" He asked carefully.
Sara gulped nervously. "Does lying ever bother you?" She asked him. Duke looked at her. "Lying to your dad is getting to you?" He guessed. Sara nodded. "It's only been a couple of weeks, and the guilt is eating me up inside. What can I do?" She wondered. Duke was about to answer when a light shined in his eyes. "That's the signal. Let's get down there." He said as he grabbed the rope and started to climb down.
After they got down to the ground, they met up with Bakura. "About time you got here." He snipped at them. Sara rolled her eyes. "Let's just get in there." She said as she made her way towards the entrance of the bank. When she entered, it was dark, but she saw security guards knocked out on the floor. "At least he's efficient." She muttered. "Thanks runt. This isn't even my best work." Bakura said from behind her. "No killing!" Duke exclaimed. Bakura rolled his eyes. Yeah, yeah. Spoil my fun." He mocked him. Sara's eyes widened at the comment. "Who in the hell am I working with?" She wondered, a little freaked out.
She saw the bank had two floors. One floor had a reception area, several desks, and a few hallways leading to other rooms. The second floor had several shelves full of records and one hallway to the left that led somewhere.
Sara cleared her throat. "Which hall do you think the safe is in?" She asked Duke. Duke looked thoughtful. "Intel indicated that it was down the right hallway in one of the security deposit boxes. The number is 1983. Here's the key." He said. Sara nodded and grabbed the key. "Alright. Bakura and I will check out the right hallway, and Duke will wait here just in case somebody comes." Sara ordered. Both men looked at her, shocked. "Well, are you gonna follow me or stand there gawking?" She said as she walked towards the right hallway. I can't believe I'm taking orders from a runt." Bakura grumbled as he followed the teenager.
The hallway had several doors. Sara went into the second room. "How do you know that room has the security deposit box?" Bakura demanded. Sara shrugged. "I don't. Gotta start somewhere." She called out. She scanned the numbers on the cabinets. "Damn, wrong room." She said as she dashed out of the room. She checked the others and was surprised to find Bakura in the last one. "Why are you in here?" She asked. Bakura smirked. "Just waiting for you." He stated simply. Sara glared at him. "Why didn't you call out that you found it?" She asked. "Now, what kind of fun would that be?" He said innocently. Sara closed her eyes and breathed through her nose. "Let's get this over with." She declared. She dragged the ladder over to the right spot. "Here I go." She mumbled as she climbed up the steps until she came face to face with the number 1983. Bakura tapped his foot. "What are you waiting for?" he barked impatiently. Sara scratched the back of her head. "I don't know how to crack a safe." She admitted sheepishly. Bakura growled. "Fine, I'll walk you through it. I got just the thing." He said, grabbing something from his utility belt. Sara stepped down a few steps to see a stethoscope. "Why do you have a stethoscope?" She questioned. Bakura smirked. "Swiped it from the bag when you weren't looking." He stated proudly. Sara rolled her eyes and took the stethoscope. "Whatever." She mumbled before she went back up the steps.
She put the stethoscope earpieces in her ears, somewhat muffling everything. "Put the chest piece to the lock," Bakura instructed, and Sara did. "Turn the dial left until you hear a click." He said next. Sara turned the dial left until she heard a click when the dial came to the 7. "Got the first one." She called out. "Good. Now turn the dial in the opposite direction." He instructed. Sara turned the dial right but accidentally went past the number. "Shit." She mumbled as she quickly re-did the first number, then went right. Bakura growled. "Hurry up." He urged her. Sara heard the click when the dial reached the number 5. "Got the second one." She said. "Great, now get the last one so we can get out of here." He
Sara turned the dial again and went past the number. "Oops." She murmured. Bakura narrowed his eyes at her. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" He accused her. She smirked. "Maybe." She said teasingly. Sara quickly re-did the first two numbers and turned the dial left, like the first number, and it clicked as it reached 8. Sara grabbed the hatch and pulled it up
Sara saw there was a box that needed a key. Sara grabbed the key out of her pocket. "Here we go." She muttered as she put the key into the slot. She turned the key and opened it. Sara saw what they were looking for, the claw of Hermos. Sara gently took it in her hands and climbed down the ladder. Seeing what was in her hand, Bakura raised an eyebrow. "A duel monster card? What the hell do we need that for?" He wondered. Sara stared at the red dragon. "Guys, we need to get out of here!" Dukes called out from the reception area. Sara stashed the card in her locket.
They bolted out of the room and went into the reception area. "Good thing it's dark in here." She muttered as the alarm set off. "Intruders! Seize them!" A guard bellowed. They dashed out the front door towards where they parked the car. They scrambled inside and drove off. "That was an adventure!" Sara exclaimed, feeling exhilarated. "You know you're not half bad at this," Bakura complimented her. Sara quirked an eyebrow. "Thanks." She said, not knowing if it was a compliment or not. Duke looked at her. "Trust me, it was a compliment." He assured her.
"Why did we go there just to get a kid's game card?" Bakura wondered. Sara raised her eyebrow. "You didn't know what we sent to retrieve?" She asked, confused. Bakura kept his eyes on the road. "Somewhat vaguely, I'm a thief on payroll." He told her. Sara nodded understandably. "Ok, do you know the story of the legendary dragons?" She asked. Bakura nodded. "As much as anyone else." He answered. Sara sighed. "All I know is the rebellion needs the legendary Dragons to stop Dartz." Bakura glanced into the rearview mirror. "Nothing else?" He probed her. Sara shook her head. "Not that I know of." She answered.
Sara trudged quietly into her dorm, trying to be quiet. She pulled off her boots. Sara went into the bathroom and quickly put her contacts in their case. She plopped on her bed, closed her eyes, and fell asleep instantly.
"Sara, wake up." A voice said. Sara moaned, her eyes not opening to see who was calling her. "Auntie, let me sleep." She muttered sleepily. "Sara, wake up!" The voice said, a little louder and shaking her. "Sara, wake up!" The voice exclaimed as the person dumped water on her. Sara's eyes opened to see Alexis already dressed and ready to go. "What?!" She snapped irritatedly. Alexis stared at her, shocked. "What's wrong?" Sara asked, confused. "Y-your eyes. T-their crimson." She stuttered out. Sara's eyes widened. "Oh, shit." She cursed. "Why are your eyes crimson, and why do you have colored contacts?" Alexis demanded. "This was going to happen sooner or later." Sara sighed heavily. "I'll tell you after our classes, but I need to get dressed so we can go." She pleaded. Alexis sighed before she stepped aside. Sara was like lightning with how fast she dressed. They left the dorm, got something quick to eat, and went to class.
When Sara walked into the gym, she heard the whispers. "Did you hear about the break-in at the bank?" "Yeah, but what'd they take? "Something valuable. That's all I know." Several people said in the crowd. Joey entered from his office. "Ok, let's start the warm-ups."
While they exercised in the first period, Sara could feel her Dad's concerned gaze. She tried, but as time went on Sara knew she was sleepy. It didn't help that by the time. She and Alexis got to the cafeteria, and all they had available were apples. Normally, Sara would be fine, but she had little sleep. The sleep and whatever she had for breakfast usually balanced each other, but they didn't today.
"OK, everyone. That's the end of class. Have a good rest of your day." Mr. Wheeler said before the bell rang.
Joey caught Sara as the teen was about to leave. "Ms. Wheeler, are you okay?" Joey asked, his eyes shining with concern. Sara yawned. "Yeah, just a little sleepy," she answered. Joey observed the teenager. He could see the dark circles under her eyes. While her eyes weren't bloodshot, she needed some sleep. "OK, if you say so. You can come to my office and nap during lunch." He offered. Sara smiled at the offer. "That'd be great." She said before she left for her next class.
The rest of her classes were a blur. She did take her dad's offer, but it wasn't enough. She tried to stay awake, but she dozed off multiple times. By the time her last class rolled around, she wanted to get it over with Sara that her Papa had an eye on her, as usual. He tried to keep her engaged in what they were doing, but by the end, Yami was concerned about her.
" ? Stay after class, please." Mister Muto requested. Sara sighed. "Great, just great." She mumbled. When class was over, everyone had left. Yami crossed his arms and looked at Sara. "Why were you so sleepy during class?" He asked. Sara sighed and turned into a yawn. "I didn't have a great night's sleep last night." She told him. Yami nodded, seeing the obvious. "So nothing's bothering you or anything like that?" He asked, concerned. "Nope. Just that I snuck off campus to steal from Alantis's national bank in the dead of night." She thought knowingly. Sara shook her head. "No, nothing." She answered. Yami sighed. "Alright. You can go." He dismissed her, knowing he would not get the answer he wanted. "Don't forget the homework. Read 85-100, and we'll discuss it tomorrow." He reminded her, knowing she missed him saying it before.
Sara jumped up and gathered her stuff. "I'll see you tomorrow, Mister Muto!" She said before she rushed off. Yami knew something was wrong. In the short time he'd known her, Sara had never been sleepy in class. She's always alert and eager to learn. He'll just need to keep a closer eye on her than he already has.
~At the dorm~
Alexis and Sara plopped their backpacks on their beds. "Alright. Now spill." She demanded. Sara sighed, knowing she had no choice. "Fine. But you know, I don't know everything." She warned. "It started 16 years ago." Sara started. She told how her dad got pregnant, ran away, had her, then fast forward five years to when he was captured and put under the seal of orichalcos. Then forward a decade later to when she arrived at Leviathan, finding out both her fathers were teachers minus the mission she's on. "Wow." She said, in awe. Sara nodded. "Yep." She said, "So you're going to get to know them without them knowing your daughter?" Alexis reiterated. Sara nodded. "Yeah, why?" She asked. Alexis sighed. "What about when you tell them?" She wondered curiously. Sara froze; she didn't know what would happen. She never thought that far. "I don't know." She answered honestly. "I don't." She told her friend.
After a few moments of silence, Alexis looked worried at Sara. "I hope you know what you're doing." She said hopefully. Sara sighed heavily. "So do I." She hoped
~Later that night~
Sara grunted as she tossed and turned in bed, trying to get comfortable. It seemed that she was having an intense dream.
~dream~
Two people were on opposite sides of the arena. "Virtual systems ready. So, let's begin. I attack with the mighty Hitotsu Me Giant. Brace yourself, Yuugi. You've never dueled like this before." Seto Kaiba warned. Hitotsu Me Giant appeared on the playing field. "He's brought the monster on the card to life." He recoiled at the sight. "It's my virtual simulator. It creates life-like holograms of every Duel Monster." Kaiba explained. "So this is how you beat my grandfather. Well, now it's my turn. I call on the winged dragon- Guardian of the Fortress." Yami said confidently. The Winged Dragon appeared on the field.
"Whoa, monsters! Real monsters!" Joey exclaimed out of the picture. "Fireball attack!" Yami ordered. Guardian of the Fortress blasts Hitotsu Me Giant with a fireball. Hitotsu Me Giant shattered. Neither noticed a young dark-haired boy enter the room. "Big brother!" Mokuba exclaimed. Kaiba's life points dropped from 2000 to 1800. "Are you alright?" Mokuba asked from the sidelines. "Alright! Go Yugi!" Joey cheered. "Hah. Well played, Yugi... for a beginner. But how will you deal with this?" Kaiba wondered. Saggi the Dark Clown appears on the field. "Saggi the Dark Clown? But that card has hardly any attack strength." Yami said, confused. "True, your winged dragon's attack is fourteen hundred, while my dark clown's is only six hundred, but if I combine it with this card…" Kaiba said, putting a card down. "Ahh, A magic card!" Yami realized.
"Exactly. The Negative Energy Generator. It multiplies my monster's attack by three. Dark Clown, attack with Dark Light!" Kaiba ordered. Saggi attacks Guardian of the Fortress. Guardian of the Fortress dissolves. Yami's life-points go from 2,000 to 1,600. "As you can see, combining cards can be very effective." Kaiba smirked. "Dark Light Attack!" He demanded.
Yami's face-down card dissolves. "Hang in there, Yuugi!" Joey called out. "You're not faring any better than the old man did, Yuugi. Your deck is just as weak and feeble as your grandfather." Kaiba taunted. "My grandpa is a great man, and a better duelist than you'll ever be. He entrusted me with his cards and I can feel his heart in this deck. I doubt you have that kind of faith in your cards, Kaiba." Yami said knowingly. "Wha-?" Kaiba exclaimed, confused. Yami drew a card and smirked. "And my faith rewards me with Gaia the Fierce Knight! With a destructive power of twenty-three hundred." He said. "Ahh," Kaiba said, dismayed. Gaia appeared on the field and attacked. Saggi dissolves. Kaiba's life-points reduced from 1,800 to 1,300.
"Way to go, Yuugi!" Her dad cheered. "Alright, Kaiba, your move." Kaiba drew a card. "Hah. This'll be over sooner than you think. Hmm. I call on the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. The Blue-Eyes White Dragon appeared on the field. "No way." Yami gasped at the sight. "Impossible! We all watched Kaiba tear that card in half." Joey said, unable to believe his eyes. "Surprised? Did you think your grandfather was the only one to possess a Blue-Eyes White Dragon?" Kaiba taunted. Blue eyes white dragon attacks Gaia. Gaia dissolves. "Argh," Yami grunted in frustration. Yami's life-points reduced from 1,600 to 900.
"Your Fierce Knight is destroyed. Faith or no faith, you will fall before my superior monsters, Yugi. Power is what this game is all about, you fool. Faith is for losers... like your pathetic grandfather. In your entire deck, there's not a single card that can stand up to a Blue-Eyes White Dragon. So what hope do you have against two?" Kaiba wondered, holding up a second Blue Eyes White Dragon card. A second Blue Eyes White Dragon appeared on the field. "Why don't you just admit defeat, Yuugi?" He asked. "I won't give up. Grandpa's counting on me. Huh, a magic card. Swords of Revealing Light! It stops all monsters on the field for three turns." Yami declared confidently, drawing another card.
Glowing swords appear around the Blue eyes white dragons.
"How desperate. What possible good will a three-turn delay do you?" Kaiba questioned. "I never forfeit. Huh? Another piece of the puzzle." Yami declared, drawing a card. "Draw any card you like, it won't change a thing. My dragons may be frozen for another two turns, but my new monster is under no such spell. The Judge Man, with an attack power of twenty-two hundred." Kaiba taunted Yami, as Judge Man appeared on the field and attacked Yami's monster, which dissolved. Yami drew a card. "I can attack with the Dark Magician. But he won't stand a chance once Kaiba's dragons are free of my spell."
Dark Magician appeared on the field. "Dark Magician... attack!" Yami exclaimed. DM attacks the Judge Man, Judge Man dissolves. Kaiba's life-points reduced from 1,300 to 1,000. "Judge Man falls," Yami stated simply. "Ahh, a sacrifice that doesn't even phase me. And though neither dragon can move for one more turn, my next card is... the third Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" Kaiba stated arrogantly, placing the last Blue eyes white dragon on the field. The third Blue Eyes White Dragon appeared on the field. "Now my dragon, attack!" Kaiba demanded.
The Blue Eyes White Dragon attacks Dark Magician. Dark magician dissolves. Yami's life-points are reduced from 900 to 400. "So tell me, Yuugi, how's your faith now? On my next turn, all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons are free to attack. This game's over no matter what card you draw. You can't possibly stand against my three Blue-Eyes White Dragons. It's over, Yugi. You were never a match for me." Kaiba sneered at him. "Don't listen, Yugi!" Joey commented. "Draw your last pathetic card so I can end this, Yugi." Kaiba demanded impatiently. "My grandpa's deck has no pathetic cards, Kaiba. But it does contain... the unstoppable Exodia!" Yami said confidently, holding the last piece of Exodia. "Ahh! Impossible!" Kaiba recoiled.
"I've assembled all five special cards. All five pieces of the puzzle." Yami said knowingly. A blue star appears on the playing field and Exodia's limbs appear inside it, one by one. "Exodia! Ahh, it's not possible! No one's ever been able to call him!" Kaiba said, shocked. "Exodia Obliterate!" Yami commanded. Exodia Obliterates. "AHHHHHH!" Kaiba screamed. Seto's life-points are reduced from 1,000 to 0. "You did it! Yugi, you won!" Joey cheered.
~End Dream~
Sara woke up confused, and her heart pounded wildly. Kaiba and her Papa? Playing Duel Monsters? Why did Dad and Kaiba call Papa Yugi? "What the fuck did I just dream about?" She exclaimed internally. She looked at her clock at 3:30 a.m. Sara knew she had to get up in a few hours, so she lay back down and closed her eyes.
