Author's Note: Hello, everyone. Here I am again with another addition to my DC/Cartoon Network crossover series, the Teen Titans series. Here, we are doing Wonder Girl (Cassie Sandsmark) in the Secret Saturdays. I've always loved this show as a kid and back then, Argost was my all-time favorite cartoon villain, so I would have hated myself for not doing this.
Now, even though I'm using the Cassie Sandsmark Wonder Girl, don't think that I'm forgetting about Donna Troy. She's a part of this story too. It'll be clear eventually.
Well, that's about all I got for now. Enjoy the beginning of this fanfic. Any and all comments are welcome.
"Okay. Before we begin, it's fair enough to start with some exposition. Otherwise, things are going to get very confusing and mixed up. I'll try to sum it up as best as I can.
"Well, first of all, I'm sure you've heard of Wonder Woman, aka Princess Diana, aka the Maiden of Might, aka a hundred other names that show off how awesome she is. Amazon. Hero. Role model for all girls everywhere. Sorry if I'm babbling. I'm just a bit of a hardcore fan ever since I met her.
"Speaking of which, I should probably introduce myself. My name is Cassie Sandsmark. I used to live with a single mom who was an archaeologist that worked with Wonder Woman. Around that same day, one of her enemies attacked and was giving the princess a hard time. I don't know what came over me, but something in me wanted to save her. So I got the bad guy's attention just long enough for Diana to get the upper hand and quickly beat them.
"Impressed by my courage, Wonder Woman offered me training in her homeland of Themyscira. Obviously, I accepted in the blink of an eye, and I was even given a surprise blessing from Zeus himself giving me the ability to fly, be super strong, and be super durable. And that's how I ended up on Themyscira training to be the best amazon I can be.
"But that's enough about me. Time to tell you about the Secret Scientists. It's this secret alliance of scientists who are looking to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Quantum physics. Aliens. Cryptids. Basically, they study anything you would normally find in a sci-fi movie. The amazons even have a couple of those working on Science Island as we speak. They happen to be on good terms with Diana.
"So yeah. That's about all I can say. Time to get started with the big, epic story of how I helped save the world."
"OW!" Cassie yelled as Artemis' bo staff struck her at the top of her blonde head.
"Again!" Artemis ordered readying her battle stance again. The red-headed amazon in black-and-red armor was tasked with training Cassie for the day.
Cassie raised her staff and swung it again, but Artemis managed to block it easily. Cassie remained on the offensive until Artemis used her staff to sweep Cassie's legs and send her falling.
"Again!" Artemis ordered again.
Cassie mumbled to herself as she stood back up. She swung overhead, but Artemis blocked it only once before flipping backward and using her leg to send her flying out of the arena floor. As Cassie got up and brushed sand off of her red armor, Artemis jumped off the arena to join her.
"You got sloppy today, Cassie." Artemis said. "Is there something on your mind?"
"Kinda." Cassie said. "Sorry. I know there's no excuse. It's just…"
"You're worried for Diana, aren't you?" Artemis asked. Cassie nodded. "I understand. It's been five weeks since she left Themyscira on her own journey, and we haven't heard anything about her since."
"Yeah, you'd think there'd at least be something on the morning news about a bad guy she put away." Cassie said. "Hey, is it all right if we take a break? I gotta clear my head."
"I suppose so." Artemis said. "Meet back here in an hour."
After leaving the arena, Cassie headed over to the Grand Hall where she was admiring statues of past amazons. She passed by a few notable figures in the past, but she stopped to fully admire the statue of a girl who looked a little more mature than her. The plaque at the base read "Donna Troy. A true sister."
"Sightseeing, are we?" asked a woman catching Cassie by surprise.
"Oh, Queen Hippolyta!" Cassie said in a startled tone as she came face to face with Diana's mother who appeared in white robes. "Uh, I'm sorry. Should I bow or…"
"It's all right, young one." Hippolyta said. "I see you're taken in by the statue of Donna Troy."
"Well, yeah. She was Wonder Girl, Wonder Woman's sidekick." Cassie said. "I never really knew what happened to her, but I want to be just like her."
"It's admirable to have dreams, Cassandra Sandsmark," Hippolyta said, "But don't forget that Donna Troy had flaws of her own. Flaws that I'm sure you don't want for yourself. So don't be like her. Be like you."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Cassie asked, but before the queen could reply, a thunderous, fiery explosion quickly filled up the room and blew them both far across the hall.
BOOM!
In Central City, there was an advanced research facility called STAR Labs. Working within was a Secret Scientist named Dr. Silas Stone. His specialty was cybernetics and robotics, and his work kept him incredibly busy, too busy for anything else. And that was a problem.
On that very fateful day, one of Silas' assistants approached him while he was working. "Dr. Stone. Your son is here. He seems pretty upset… again."
Silas gave a very deep sigh and left his workstation. He then went into the next room where his athletic, high-school son sat. Neither of them looked happy.
"Victor, I'm in the middle of some very important work." Silas said.
"Dad, you said you'd be at my game today." Victor said. "You promised."
"You don't understand, Victor."
"No, you don't understand!" Victor shot back jumping up to his feet. "There were scouts there. They saw me. Coach said every last one of them offered full scholarships…"
"Victor, you don't need a scholarship. I'm paying for your school."
"Pay for it for someone who needs it. I can play football for them. MSU was there…"
"MSU is a fine university, but you shouldn't be spending your time playing games."
"I like it! I'm good at it! I can go pro, Dad! Everyone says so!"
"OPEN YOUR EYES, SON!" Silas finally snapped. Once he started, he couldn't stop speaking his mind. "Look at the world we live in today! Maybe you haven't noticed, but a small part of the abnormal is public knowledge! Metahumans are now trending! We're witnessing the birth of a new race of people! Super humans! Beings who can fly, tear through buildings, and outrun race cars! They will make what you can 'do' obsolete! Do you understand? Out there, catching footballs and scoring touchdowns is a joke!"
Victor felt stung hearing those words come out of his father's mouth. He lowered his head and frowned. "You're never going to come to one of my games, are you?"
Silas lowered his head too. "No."
BOOM!
The sudden explosion of fire interrupted the Stone family's sullen moment and filled up the entire lab. Silas was ruffled up, but his son took the full force of the blast. It left him nearly destroyed around his entire body.
Cassie groaned as she picked herself up from the ruins of the Grand Hall. Her vision was blurry for a short time, but when it came back, she gasped as she saw the amazon queen laying on the ground. She was still alive, but standing over her were three women. One was what looked like a wild jungle cat with orange hair and a black outfit on. The other was a very tall and muscular woman with beautiful red hair and a jungle print two-piece outfit on. The last one what appeared to be a woman, but was covered in silver, metal armor covering her entire body. She was also equipped with a pair of giant wings attached to her back.
Cassie gasped looking at the walking cat woman. "Cheetah." She then turned to the giant woman. "Giganta." Her surprise turned to confusion as she saw the armored, winged woman. "Who is that?"
"What are you doing here?" Hippolyta groaned angrily. She tried to pick herself up, but Cheetah planted her foot on her chest pressing her down.
"Nuh, uh, uh, your highness." Cheetah said. "We won't be long. We're just looking for something."
Giganta heard the sound of women shouting from the distance. She looked out at the large hole they made when they blew up the wall. "Heads up. Amazons."
"Silver Swan…" Cheetah said looking at the winged woman.
"Gladly." The winged woman said with a bloodthirsty tone in her metallic voice. She extended her wings and shot into the air like a bullet before flying over to the amazon crowd heading their way.
"If you're here out of spite for my daughter…" Hippolyta threatened.
"Oh, trust me. I would love to torment my arch-enemy's mother as much as the next woman," Cheetah said, "But I'm afraid we're here for business, not pleasure. All we want from you is to tell us where you hid Diana's piece of the Kur Stone."
Cassie noticed the fear suddenly rise in her queen's voice. As curious as she was, she knew she had to spring into action. So she started to move the rubble off of her and rise up on her feet.
"I'll never tell you." Hippolyta said.
"Oh, I think you will." Cheetah said with a sinister grin. She reached behind her back and pulled out something that both Hippolyta and Cassie were surprised to see her carrying. It was a long, golden rope that was glowing in her claws.
"The Golden Lasso." Hippolyta gasped. "How do you have that? That belongs to Princess Diana!"
Cheetah laughed menacingly. "Oh, she's not going to need it where she is now."
Hippolyta grew worried. "What do you mean? What have you done with her?"
"I'll ask the questions here." Cheetah said wrapping the Golden Lasso around Hippolyta's forearm. "We all know anyone bound by this rope is forced to give an honest answer to whatever their captor says. So tell me, your majesty, where is the piece of the Kur Stone that Wonder Woman hid?"
Hippolyta tried not to answer, but the more she resisted, the more the rope tightened and burned her arm. Even she was helpless against its power.
"It's… here.." she said reluctantly. "Under… the… floor."
"That's all we needed." Cheetah said. "Giganta…"
"Already on it." The giant villainess said as she stepped back and expanded herself to colossal height. Once she was big enough, she gripped her hands together and held them up ready to strike down. But before she could, Cassie was finally able to stand back up and hover in the air.
"HEY, JUMBO!" Cassie cried out before flying over to Giganta and landing a right hook across her enormous face.
Giganta stumbled and held onto her face before growling at Cassie. "That hurt." She said before swinging her hand to smack Cassie to the ground.
"Hold that thought." Cheetah said to the queen before delivering a swift kick to knock her out.
Cheetah then pounced on Cassie before she had the chance to stand back up. She held her down and twisted one of her arms behind her back.
"You should have stayed out of it, kid." Cheetah said. "This is no place for little leaguers. You're playing with the big girls now."
With Cassie held down, Giganta was free to strike hard at the floor. The whole hall began to shake and a couple other pieces fell from where they were supposed to be. Giganta kept striking the floor at different spots until she stopped at one that felt different.
Giganta shrank herself down to her previous size and held up a rock wrapped in sheets. It looked bland and colorless, but there were strange markings displayed around it.
"Found it!" Giganta called out.
"Good. Argost will be pleased." Cheetah said.
"Whatever that is, you're not getting it!" Cassie shouted before shooting her head backwards to strike at Cheetah's face and force her to let go.
Finally free, Cassie launched her legs to kick Cheetah away. Cassie then turned around to face Giganta, who grew to enormous size again and raised her barefoot ready to stomp on her. However, Cassie flew out of the way and countered with an elbow strike to the back of her leg. Giganta dropped down to one knee before Cassie knocked her back with a flying uppercut. The attack caused Giganta to drop the stone she had before she fell over.
Cassie noticed the stone the giantess dropped and went over to look at it. She picked it up in her hands for a better look. "What the heck is this thing? It looks Sumerian."
Cassie's curiosity was interrupted by several red beams of light that hit her at the same time. They burned her intensely and she collapsed on the ground. The blasts came from the wings of the Silver Swan, who flew back into the Great Hall just as Cheetah and Giganta got back up. She picked up the rock and backed away from the teenager.
Cassie returned to her feet, but she was caught by surprise when Giganta sent her flying with a punch. She was sent hurtling toward Cheetah, who sent her back with a dropkick. She returned to Giganta, who threw her fist down at her sending her sinking into the ground. Cassie felt her consciousness slipping.
"We have what we came for. Let's go." Silver Swan said before she and the other villainesses left. Cassie drifted off into the darkness.
"Victor!" Silas gasped seeing his heavily injured son in the middle of the burning lab. He limped over to hold onto his body which was struggling to stay alive. "It's okay, Victor. I'll fix you up. I…"
"I'm afraid you won't get the chance."
Silas looked up and saw two figures standing over him. One had a feminine figure, but had a golden, mechanical body and a dark outfit and cloak. The other was also a robotic figure, but it looked like a giant, blue snowman.
"Dr. Stone, I presume." The one in the hood said in a mechanical voice. "My name is Dr. Cyber. This is my associate, the Blue Snowman."
Silas was scared, but he stayed close to his son. "What do you want?"
"We came on behalf of a certain someone you know. A man by the name of… V.V. Argost." Dr. Cyber said causing Silas to gasp. "Yes. Then you know what we came here for."
"Whatever he wants, you won't find it here." Silas said.
Dr. Cyber reached her black belt which she had around her waist and pulled out a futuristic-looking gun. She pointed it at Victor. "You can tell me now or you can tell me over the boy's dead body."
"Hold on." The Blue Snowman said with a woman's voice echoing from the inside of the mechanical body. "I didn't sign up to kill a kid."
"If you have a problem doing what's necessary, take it up with Argost himself." Dr. Cyber said. "Now, Dr. Stone, if you don't mind…"
"Fine!" Silas gave in holding on tightly to his son. "Fine. You win. I'll tell you."
When Cassie regained consciousness, she found herself in the amazon's infirmary. She was sore everywhere, but she was able to walk it off as soon as she rose from her bed.
When she walked out, she saw that the amazons were already at work repairing the Great Hall. She also saw Queen Hippolyta, sitting on a bench and worried. She was a little bandaged up, but not too badly damaged. Although, her frightened expression tells a whole different story.
"My queen!" Cassie called out approaching her. "What happened?"
"I don't know." Hippolyta said. "Argost must have done something to Diana."
"Who?" Cassie asked. "Wait, do you mean V.V. Argost, the creepy TV star? What does he have to do with this?"
"Everything." Hippolyta answered just as another amazon approached her.
"My queen," she bowed, "We just made contact with the Secret Scientists like you asked. And it appears your suspicions were correct. STAR Labs, Dr. Miranda Grey's lab, and the Saturday home were all attacked at the same time as we were."
"And what of Dr. Henry Cheveyo?" Hippolyta asked.
"My apologies. We weren't able to get in contact with him."
Hippolyta became concerned. "This can't be good. Is he already gone or is he next?"
"Um, excuse me," Cassie said, "What the heck's going on here? Who are those guys? What happened to Wonder Woman? And what's with that Sumerian rock the bad guys took?"
"You already know it's Sumerian?" Hippolyta asked.
"Of course. My mom's an archaeologist."
Hippolyta was silent for a moment thinking hard before finally speaking. "Cassandra Sandsmark, I have a mission for you."
"Me?" Cassie asked surprised that the queen of the amazons was giving her a mission.
"Yes. Head over to Dr. Cheveyo's lab and investigate. This may lead to finding out what happened to my daughter."
"You mean I have to save Wonder Woman?" Cassie asked. "Well, I'd never say no to that. Where do I go?"
"Take one of our ships at the dock." Hippolyta said. "Once you make it to Man's World, fly all the way to Cheveyo's observatory in Mesa. Hopefully, you will find help there."
A blue-caped, evil-looking man in a pale-white mask that matched his hair dined on fine cuisine. He waited in his large, blue battleship until he was joined by Cheetah, Giganta, Silver Swan, Dr. Cyber, and the Blue Snowman. He smiled behind his mask and greeted them all.
"Greetings and bienvenue, my lovely Villainy Inc. I take it your little repossession missions went off without a hitch?"
"Barely any trouble at all, Argost." Cheetah said holding up the stone piece she stole with her fellow villains.
"Same here." Dr. Cyber said holding up a very similar stone. Both she and Cheetah placed their stones on the table before Argost.
"Marvelous. Now, all that's left is to find the Saturday's piece."
"So I take it Van Rook and the new guy failed?" Dr. Cyber asked.
"Unfortunately, but I've already got a plan in mind that will have the Saturdays willingly tell me their secret." Argost said.
"Sounds delightful." Silver Swan said impatiently. "Now, when do we finally execute Wonder Woman?"
"Patience, my aerial ally." Argost said. "Right now, she's not any trouble where she is."
"So why keep her alive?" Giganta asked.
"Call me old-fashioned, but part of me really wishes to see the look on her face when my plans come to fruition." Argost answered. "Now, all we have to do is wait."
