Author's Note:
Here's a new story, hopefully I'll actually be consistent with this one. Also, if anyone knows how to delete chapters on the mobile app, I would really appreciate some help, as I need to fix an issue with my story Missed Opportunities. Anyways, enjoy the chapter and please review!
Chapter 1: The Article
Harry took another bite out of Molly's fantastic pancakes as he scanned the Daily Prophet as he did most mornings, although he didn't expect to find anything too interesting. The war had ended a bit over three months ago now and thankfully, the farther they got from the war, the less news stories there were about former death eaters still on the loose. There was still plenty to sort out, but after only a few months, seemed already seemed to be looking up and Harry couldn't ask for much more.
Harry was wrenched by his thoughts as an article caught his eye. He flipped a few pages to find the full article and found it, the title reading, "The Next Batch of Quidditch Talent Approaches."
"Hey Gin, look at this." He tossed the paper across the table to his girlfriend and she caught it easily. She looked down at the article and began to read.
"Starting on August 15th of this month, the annual Quidditch showcase games are fast approaching and they're sure to be as exciting as always. This year's games provide a unique mystery as we are coming off of a year in which most amature quidditch, including the Hogwarts league, were shut down, meaning we have much less insight into who some of the top prospects are this year. There is the very unique aspect that, due to a major wizarding civil war in the United States of America, many Americans have decided to try out in this showcase due to their own being cancelled. This means that both the number of participants and the amount of talent are raised significantly. If you think you have what it takes, you can sign up for the showcase if you will be 17 or older by the start of the event. We encourage all potential participants to only sign up if you truly think you have what it takes to play proffessionally, as the league takes this event very seriously."
Ginny looked up at Harry after reading the introduction to the event. "What? I know what the quidditch showcase is."
Harry took a sip of his pumpkin juice and looked at her. "Well, don't you want to sign up?"
Ginny's jaw dropped and she looked at him incredulously. "Me? I'm not even done with Hogwarts, there's no way I'm good enough, I might think about it next year but... I don't know for sure that I'm good enough to play proffessionally and I don't want to delude myself into thinking I can." She said all of this fairly quickly, as if quite flustered by the idea of her really trying to go pro.
"What are you on about?" Harry asked in surprise, "Of course you're good enough! You're the best chaser I've ever seen at Hogwarts and I think you're better than a lot of the chasers in the league, for sure more talented, if not quite as polished yet. If you really want to go back to Hogwarts and wait to try out, but I think we both know that you don't truly want to go back after last year, and I know you're good enough to compete at that showcase, and I think you know it too."
Ginny chewed her lip, not knowing what to think. She'd always wanted to play Quidditch proffessionally as Harry knew, but until recently she'd never let herself truly consider it as a possibility. She wanted to listen to Harry and just go for it, but a part of her was scared. This wasn't just some Hogwarts league match anymore, she would be against players who had been aiming to be proffessional players since they were little kids, people who would be on a totally different skill level from anything she'd ever faced. Ginny knew she was good, she couldn't lie to herself about that, but no matter how much Harry told her she was, she wasn't quite convinced that she was THAT good. She finally looked at Harry and smiled, "I'll think about it, Harry, I'm still not sure, but I'll consider it."
When Ginny went up to bed that night, she couldn't quite seem to get to sleep. Images of herself flying against some of the best players in the world flew through her mind, and try as she may, she just couldn't think about anything else. She shifted in her bed again, trying to get comfortable, but just couldn't quite get there. She loved Harry with all of her heart, but she couldn't help but wonder if maybe he was only seeing the best of her and was wrong about her quidditch ability? What if she got nervous and failed when she got to the showcase?
Stop it, she thought, mentally kicking herself, since when am I such a nervous wreck? She turned over again, groaning into her pillow. At that moment, the door opened quietly and she looked up to see Harry tiptoeing into her room. He crawled into bed with her, opening his arms and letting her settle into his chest. She sighed contentedly as he kissed her forehead.
"I thought you'd still be awake," he whispered, rubbing her back, "It's a lot to think about, but I think you should go for it. The worst that could happen is you don't get quite where you want to be and you go back to Hogwarts like you'd planned, but I don't think that'll happen, I know you can do this, you're going to be amazing." Ginny looked up at him for nearly a minute before finally, she nodded.
"Okay, I'll give it a go," and for the first time since he'd showed her the Daily Prophet article, he saw that determined fire in her eyes, the look that told him she couldn't fail at anything.
