A dive in the mud a black eye on her left side and a girlfriend that did send you to take a shower because you smelled like a pig that was Jane's current situation. Now that she was fresh as a baby's buttocks after a mother's pampering she went down to her girlfriend Maura Isles who was waiting passionately, so at least she hoped that would be the case. Maybe with a nice cold beer. No! Jane hoped there was a delicious cold beer waiting for her and a good-humored Maura. She still remembered that night as she jumped off that bridge. 'No Jane', she told herself, 'no negative thoughts! Not tonight…especially not tonight…

As she went downstairs Maura still sat on her couch the way Jane left her looking curiously and expectantly up at Jane.

Jane stood before her to address the Medical Examiner who became so much more to her than a best friend and confidant. She took a deep breath and spoke to her in a somewhat shaky voice: "Did you know that the first time I realized that I was in love with you was after a tough case some time ago."

Jane smiled at Maura and reached for her love's hands which Maura took and nestled in the warmth of her detective's larger hand.

The quirky woman always had the tendency to ruin certain moments with her scientific facts but this time she didn't felt the urge to do so, she treasured the moments when Jane opened up to her especially regarding her feelings for her.

"You remember that day in July you took me to a country club to unwind?"

Maura simply shook her head lightly 'yes' and let Jane form her thoughts and sculpt them into words.

"I wasn't all TOO enthusiastic about it, but you did this thing you always do when you try to trick me into doing things I'm not eager to do." Jane took a deep breath to collect her thoughts. "As we sat there in that fancy-pancy country club and we had some small talk..just to relax and at one point you looked at me and then you whispered in my ear that you wanted to dance with me."Maura knicked.

"First I declined of course, dancing isn't really my thing, although I admit that I can dance thanks Ma and Micky Green... But anyway, you did this thing with your head and you're eyes shone like emeralds then came your long-drawn 'Ja-a-ane' and I knew 'here I go again'."

Maura giggled and Jane softly squeezed Maura's soft little but strong hand.

"The moment we set foot on the dance floor," Jane continued her oration, "the music ended and I was about to escape my predicament but you held me by my hand and as the music of Anne Murray started to play, 'Could I have this dance'...oh gross.. Back then okay? Jane smiled "Well, one arm on my waist and one hand holding mine. And as I looked at you, so beautiful. Your eyes twinkled as they laid eyes on mine and then I knew." Jane swallowed the lump in her throat and continued: "I swear Maura, I had to gather all my strength to stay on my feet as we swayed like Anne Murray sang in her song. It wasn't MY kind of song THEN but you and me and that wonderful feeling of your warm hands on my body and the look you gave me while dancing with me...WOW! I felt weak and shaky and my heart rate increased 100 times maybe more, but whatever my love I THEN knew: This is it! You and me. I can only love you..."

Jane unwillingly did let go of her lover's hand and walked to her laptop and started to type... "And now we are here, it was a rocky/bumpy road..." she said softly to the love of her life. She walked back to Maura and just at the moment their song started to play.

Jane took Maura's hand and said, "Please dance with me, Gorgeous!"

Maura's eyes were flooded with tears by now as she let Jane lead her to the middle of their living room.

Softly they swayed in the warm-loving embrace of the music that captured them into the heavenly bubble of their unconditional love that turned two lives into one: The tough Detective and the quirky loveable medical examiner had found their destination in each other's arms and lives to stay there well-nurtured through mutual commitment and respect…

As the chorus began Jane let go of Maura went down on one knee took a little box out of her pocket opened it and held a beautiful ring up to Maura and popped the question that even without a big romantic gesture came from deep down/within Jane's heart, "Maura, I love you so much, please marry me and dance with me for the rest of our lives."

Maura's heart bounced in her chest but her melodic voice was steady and clear as she answered the life-changing question with just one word, "Yes!"

Tears dribbled down of Maura's cheeks. Jane rose from her kneeling position and wiped Maura's joyful tears from her now rosy cheeks, "I love you so much, Maura. Thank you, my gorgeous ..." Jane took Maura's hand and put the golden ring on Maura's finger.

Jane closed the distance to the lady of her badass heart and as their lips met in pure bliss as the feeling of belonging filled their body and mind.

Anne Murray's 'Could I have this dance' filled the room for the third time as the lovebirds entangled themselves and they softly swayed in a loving embrace to Anne's sweet voice.

"Really?" Maura's muffled voice came somewhere out of the tangled women, "You repeated the song three times, Jane?"

Jane snickered, "Yeah well actually four times Maur'" she told and sounded amused. "I know how you like to think and rethink and so on. I just gave you some time to digest my proposal before you give me an answer...Plus I expected some Google mouthing..."

A firm tap on her arm interrupted Jane's train of thought, "Ouch!" Silence. "Why did you hit me?"

"Jane, I love you and you're right about me needing some time to think/rethink things before answering. But sometimes Jane, and definitely not this time. And it was hitting your arm or pulling your hair, which seemed not appropriate in our kind of relationship."

"So hitting my arm is the lesbian way of telling a woman you like them as is pulling hair is for straight?" Jane asked intrigued, curious for Maura's explanation.

"Yes, it is!"

"That's not a scientific approach."Jane teased

"I know, but it is so much fun!" came Maura's quick reply.

"Hmmm, do you know what I think would be fun, Doctor Isles?" Jane whispered husky in Maura's ear.

Distracted by Jane's warm breath on her cheek and the sexy thoughts that filled her brain the petite woman could only could only answer with a soft "Hm?"

"I 'm pretty sure it would be more fun to take my fiancee to our bedroom and to show her how much I love and adore her and how much I look forward to be her wife..."

"Oh, Jane."Maura said expectantly.

They slowly entangled their bodies from their loving embrace. Jane took Maura's soft hand, guiding her to their bedroom for a more intimated dance...
