Pokemon: Steel

Prologue

Josef Jr. Kain retrieved his bag from the plane compartment overhead, he heard the energetic boy shouting in the doorway. They'd just arrived in Kalos and it was already so loud that others claimed it to be back home.

"Energetic little one isn't he?" His Mother grinned.

"Quite," The 24 year old sighed. "Reminds me quite well of the last time I saw Dol."

She nodded and glanced at her watch, "Oh my- it seems we'll be late to meet with Dol and your father if we don't hurry now."

The two quickly filed down the stairs of the aircraft into the airport where they hailed a limo. JK frowned, "How times have changed Mother, when I was Dol's age we didn't have nearly as much wealth as we have now."

"Why your father was just beginning his company," Emily Kain chuckled. "But better now than never like some families, yes?"

The thought stuck in JK's mind where it began to etch itself…soon to lead to plans the world would soon know.

"Yes…" JK murmured. "Quite."

Chapter One

Dol wandered the halls of Silph Co, his father had just acquired the company and its employees just a few days earlier along with a new home in the Kalos Region.

"Isn't this something Beldum?" Dol mused as he studied art on the walls, one depicted a man touching his finger tip with the hoof of Arceus.

"I know right!" Bel responded cheerfully.

Dol had always had the ability to understand Pokemon as well as they understood him. Early in his life a Beldum had saved him from a wild Starly. Ever since then the two hadn't gone anywhere without the other.

"Nevermind the art," Dol grinned. "I heard from one of the butlers at home that Mother and Josef would be joining us."

The family was reunited after Dol and his Father went ahead to claim a house in Lumiose City. It had been an entire year as Emily had been waiting for Josef to return from overseas schooling.

It was all planned to fall on Dol's 16th birthday, the day before he'd set out on his Trainer Adventure.

"I can't wait!" Dol smiled brightly and sprinted down the nearest stairway. Beldum on his tails, hovering at a fast pace. His father, Josef, smiled as the two barreled into the reception area.

"I was wondering when you two would show," Josef grinned. "Now stand proud….they're here."

Dol stood upright next to his father and Bel…floated?Yes, Floated next to the Kain Men. The doors dinged and slid to the sides as a silver haired young man and older woman entered the room. Their appearances were completely different to Dol's and his Father, the two had lime hair and brown eyes, Emily and JK had a fierce blue eye color.

"Emily my love," Josef welcomed the two in his Kalos accent. "I am so glad to finally have you here."
"I as well, dear!" Emily embraced her husband and had almost forgotten about Dol who stood in awe, staring at JK. The young man grinned at his little brother before holding out a fist.

"Been a while little bro," JK said. "You've gotten quite tall in just a year."

"You haven't grown at all!" Dol smiled and bumped fists with him.

"Hello JK!" Bel nudged the man's arm. To JK and the rest of the world, he was just buzzing instead of speaking.

"I suppose that mean's hello?" JK began to pet the Steel Pokemon. Dol nodded and turned to his Mother who now held back tears as she held her arms out.

"My boy!" She sniffled.

"Mother," He groaned and walked into her embrace. "It's only been a year…nothing to fret about."

It didn't feel like that to Emily though, as she and JK had always held a Galar Accent in their tongues. Dol and his Father shared a Kalos tongue, which made it feel as though the separation had been rather longer than originally intended.

The family stopped the embraces and laughed together before leaving the building.

"Where are we off to eat at Birthday Boy?" Josef through his beard towards Dol.

"How about Chalines?" Dol suggested.

"Perfect," Josef nodded. "A good introduction to Kalos Region foods for your Mother and Brother."

The rest of the evening the Family shared a large feast at a fancy restaurant near Prism Tower. Memories were shared and jokes exchanged until it came for the family to return home and retire to their beds.

"Night Dol," His Mother switched off his light and began to close his door. "You've got a long journey ahead of you."
The door shut and Dol was left in the darkness with Bel, "She's right buddy…eventually we'll be the best in the world!"

"For sure!" Bel snoozed and began to descend downwards on the bed before sleeping.

Morning light laid on Dol's eyes as they fluttered open and yawned, "Morning Bel."

The Pokemon rose and hovered next to him, "Dol…it's time."

Dol looked at his partner in confusion, his eyes quickly widened with excitement.

"Let's go!" Dol hurried to dress.

His clothes a white shirt with khaki shorts and a green jacket, his shoes were black sneakers. He bolted out of his room, grabbing his black hat, and rushing down the stairs with Bel on the heels of his feet.

"Today's the day!" Emily greeted him as he rushed into the kitchen.

"I can't wait to attend a Pokemon School in the Unova Region!" He grinned largely and his Father chuckled on a stool.

"Remember that you have to pick your starter before setting off." JK butted in.

"I have a partner already," Dol frowned. "Bel."
Josef cleared his throat and put down his coffee.

"Professor Sycamore says that you can keep Bel but you must select another Pokemon to join you," The father explained. "It's basically a tradition!"

Dol frowned, "I'm off then!"

He grabbed his bag and a mini bag off the counter which held his Food, "What about breakfast?!"

"No time!" Dol rushed out the front door.

He rushed down the steps and to a limo, it took him to the laboratory that Sycamore worked in. In no time the just awakened Professor guided the young boy to the lab and allowed him pick a pokeball.

"You know the choices," Professor smiled. "Fennekin,Froakie, or Chespin."
Dol dwelled on this choice, then he noticed another Pokeball in the corner. An Ultra Ball with a rather battered down design, it's exterior was rough.

"What about that one?" Dol asked.

"That's not a starter," Sycamore began to explain. "Plus you wouldn't want a rather powerful pokemon to start off with."
"But it is a choice, yes?" Dol asked and Sycamore nodded. "I want it."

Professor Sycamore frowned and nodded, the young boy retrieved it and looked at the name tag on it.

"Steelix," Dol smiled. "I like it."

"You cannot return him under any circumstances," Professor stared at the boy. "You've chosen him now…and this is a special gift from me since it was your birthday yesterday, okay?"

Dol nodded and said his goodbyes before heading to the airport where he awaited his plane.

Two other people his age sat to his left on the waiting chairs, "I can't wait to attend Castelia Academy!"
"Me neither!" The girl grinned at the boy.

"You're attending as well?" Dol looked at the two and they nodded.

"I'm Antoine," The boy with purple hair and green eyes smiled. "And this is my friend from the Galar Region, Amelia."
The girl with blonde and green hair smiled at him.

"Nice to meet you," Dol nodded. "So are you taking a public plane?"

"Obviously," Amelia giggled. "We're not rich."

Dol nodded, 'Of course the two weren't.' He looked at Beldums Pokeball in his hand, the Steelix he had yet to see since the scheduling was tight.

"Would you like to join me on mine?" Dol spoke up.

"On your flight?" Antoine looked at Amelia confused.

"Don't think we're allowed to switch to another public airline so late." Amelia sighed.

Dol had no idea why he was doing this, perhaps because it would make him friends before getting the Unova Region. Or maybe he was just afraid of being alone in another Region.

"It's private," Dol looked up. "I'm Dol Kain."

The two looked confused even more, they were trying to remember where they'd heard the name.

"No way you're the son of Silph Co. Owner, Josef Kain." Amelia giggled more.

"I am," Dol showed his pokedex which held his identification. "So would you like to join me?"

The two looked at each other again before nodding furiously at the young boy.

"Perfect." He smiled.

The Plane had been refueling in a hangar awaiting for Dol. The two followed outside in the sunny windy day.

"Mr. Kain," His Butler Henry stepped out of the hangar with a frown. "Who are these two?"

"Antoine and Amelia," Dol spoke over the sounds of engines. "They'll be joining me on my trip to the Unova Region…treat them well!"

Henry nodded and guided the three onto the sleek silver and green jet. They hurried aboard and the door shut behind them, the three sat in comfortable leather seats.

"This is crazy!" Antoine was in awe. "How lucky are we to meet DK?"
"DK?" Dol frowned.

"That's what we common people call you," Amelia added. "You guys are like a Royal Family to the Kalos Region…your fathers story of rags to riches is infamous!"

Dol nodded, "I like that name…DK…I think I'll keep it."

The two grinned at him and the Jet lurched forward, "Fasten your seatbelts and keep all Pokeballs secured!" The intercom was soft and somber unlike the public airlines.

"We're on our way to Castelia International Airport."
