Chapter 26
Suiryu was at a loss at this point.
In fact, this was a bad decision from the start, and it was only getting worst as time passes. But the fact is this.
If Chusi is entertained, Sukuna will do anything to make her smile!
He had been trying on all sorts of modeling clothing just to make her laugh, he struck poses and did his 'role playing' for her as she requested.
But… WHY!?
Why is Sukuna acting like this? Why is he allowing himself to be like this? If anything, he was too proud of his image, he wouldn't dare tarnish it doing something so… childish now would he?
"Uh… sweetie, I hate to say this but… he looks amazing in all the outfits he has worn. I also took pictures already" D'angelo explained.
"I figured as much…" Suiryu did more than his fair share of posing and photos, Sukuna was mocking him, striking the same poses a moment later where Suiryu was. Which D'angelo took full advantage of, but this was getting out of hand. "Besides, let's let them have fun, we need to talk"
D'angelo nodded. "Wayne, look after them please"
Wayne looked at him as if he was joking. "You for real!?" he demanded.
"Just give him some snacks and other outfits, find random ones that he can play dress up in," Suiryu explained.
"Ooo, dress up!" Chusi said with a devious grin.
"I do believe someone owe me rent money?"
"And with that, we are going to excuse ourselves for a few minutes… put them down for a nap later if need be Wayne." Suiryu called.
Despite being a wyvern, the task set before Wayne was not as simple as one believes!
Either way, Suiryu and D'angelo deeked out of the room. They went into another and sealed it off. D'angelo went right into it. "There has been odd activity going on for some time within Kyoto. In fact, recently, I have heard that various animals were dying at a local zoo" he explained. "However, it's more curse related than anything."
"We just got word of that too, my bro Tanso is going to check it out. The zoo knows him well enough."
D'angelo nodded. "Second, we had reports of five divine users entering Japan most recently. The dressed in black leather…"
"Dragon slayers" Suiryu stated.
This made D'angelo freeze. "What? Why are they back?! Do they not know of the agreement!?"
This took Suiryu aback. "Agreement?" he asked.
"This took place thousands of years ago, in fact when the dragons still existed and Sukuna didn't. There was an agreement in place for some time that hunters or dragon slayers could only stay within their part of their territory… basically it limited it to nationality. So if a dragon appeared in England, the slayers of England are tasked to kill it if they desire as such. All slayers are established in either Europe or North America, but there are no dragon slayers in Asia or below the equator to my knowledge."
"I didn't know that…" Suiryu said offhandedly.
"It's because there were dragon slayer clans established worldwide. However, dragons acted differently in different regions. So as you could probably tell…"
"The asshole ones attacked where there are dragon slaying clans established, those who don't have one… the dragons never attacked humans."
"See, you're such a smart cookie!" D'angelo said proudly. "However…"
"Lack of prey, gives you a lack of options." He muttered. "Yet, I heard through Sukuna of all people, the last time they attempted this was just over a thousand years ago. They came after the Tooru family."
"Indeed, and it didn't go well for them. You see, it's dishonorable among dragon slayers to take an innocent life. Despite the fact that the life they took was that of a Tooru, they killed the twin sister to the dragon vessel. However, the twin sister herself was a rarity among the family. She possessed NO talent whatsoever." D'angelo explained.
Suiryu was taken aback. That does happen in some sorcerer families, but to not even have heavenly restrictions? That would be rare in the Tooru family. "Since that was the case, she was human… so they took that as a stain on their honor?"
"Yes, it forced them to retreat and then go into hiding. The clan may not think much of it now since the woman was a Tooru, so the stigma must have worn off if they came here again… and to go after you and your brother of all people!"
"Not just us…"
Suddenly, D'angelo froze. "Wait… hon… do you mean… there are more dragons?" he whispered.
He nodded and explained that mom turned her mate and a good friend of his. "Well, the sisters turned their husbands except for Toshi, he can't be turned due to Sukuna's blood." He explained.
D'angelo's face didn't alter. "Okay, we need a real talk now!" he decreed. Before he was standing, now he took a seat directly across from Suiryu. "Hon… Darling… please listen carefully to me… despite you being a dragon, there are those of the divine realm… who HATE dragons." He explained.
This, took him aback. "Really?" he asked. "I thought the divine loved dragons"
"About 90% do." He said. "However, there are some divine creatures who believe that a dragon takes too much and gives too little. Some had even gone as far as assisting humans in hunting them down. I have little doubt that the fairy you encountered was part of that legion."
"Are dragon slayers divine users?"
"For the most part, yes," he said truthfully. "They are the humans who have sided with the divine who are against the dragons. They gain familiars far more easily, at the same time, they get information just as easily. All knowledge is shared among the divine, the moment a new dragon is born, all know of them. And I assure you I have been having a hard enough time trying to fine 30 baby related items for your brothers!"
"You don't need to worry about that, they have all grown… really fast." He said and snickered. Yet, his smile soon faded. "So, there are divine creatures out to get us too huh?"
"Not everything is cupcakes and sprinkles." D'angelo explained.
Even so…
"We will have to address the dragon slayers, even though it's been a thousand years, you think they would have given up on the notion or something?"
"Dragon materials make very valuable things. Their blood alone can boost the power of a sorcerer nearly five folds. If that sorcerer drink the dragon's blood again… that doubles. Each time,"
Suiryu was wishing he told this long before today!
"Anything else?" he asked bluntly.
There was hesitation on his friend's face. Suiryu glared at him as he reluctantly sighed. "Adonis… isn't dead," he said.
"How is that possible? I took his divine energy!"
"The thing is sweetie, like jujutsu sorcerers if not killed properly can become a curse. It's similar for a divine user. They are given a death sentence, but, can avoid it if they change themselves. It's not an automatic thing, but, if he followed a proper procedure… Adonis could make himself into a creature of the divine world."
"Similar to what I did with Naoya…" he muttered. "Keep me posted, if you catch wind of him, inform me… right away" he insisted.
D'angelo agreed. "You know, ever since our little… tribute to you occurred… the divine users are trying to change their tune. They still don't know you are a dragon, we erased that from their minds, but… They are trying to change their ways to find something. At the same time there is little guidance, it also doesn't help that somehow all our elders were suddenly killed…"
Suiryu avoided eye contact for that one.
"Anyway, the divine users, a lot have been coming to me now. Wanting advice, at the same time… I don't trust a lot of them for they abuse their summons still. No one has approached my way of gaining familiars… besides Bo."
"How is he doing?"
"Very well, in fact, he has been busy himself. You see, we are aware of various businesses that have been exploiting divine power for the sake of profit. Bo has been going in and freeing those creatures. But he recently hit a snag with another sorcerer…"
"Someone trying to stop him?"
"Quite the opposite actually. He's trying to get into a recording studio that we know the creator and CEO is exploiting sirens." He explained. "The problem is, the divine sorcerer who wants to help them, can't get in the studio since he doesn't have a contract with them… this CEO knows not to trust everyone that comes through his doors. So he goes by power."
"You don't say…" Suiryu said.
"Indeed, I know his methods too well. You know when a siren sings, they lure humans to their deaths most of the time, right?" D'angelo asked.
He nodded to that. "HOWEVER… when a siren is out of the water… it has a reverse effect. They are affected by music. The more powerful the voice and song, the more influence they have. But, if one isn't a siren, and they make them dance to the song they sing… they gain influence and will be treated very respectfully. It's how this CEO gets his performers. He goes by how much the sirens under his control dance to their music."
Suiryu got the notion. "Perhaps I can lend a hand…"
D'angelo smirked. "I was hoping you would. I'll keep you posted…"
Knock, knock, knock.
Curious, D'angelo opened the door. There, Wayne stood… and he appeared mortified. "Wayne?"
"Uh… I think this is beyond me at the moment but… those two just ran off with half the clothing they were toying with… something about… role playing at home…"
Suiryu sighed and was holding his head in his hands. "Sometimes… I wonder if this is a punishment truly for Satoru…"
