Omg I am so sorry for the delay! School started back and my youngest wasn't a day in when he caught bloody croup! Then he caught sinusitis, and now he's got RSV!
3 weeks of illness, we're all exhausted!
And don't get me started on a mother having a bitch fit and blaming my 5 year old because her kids are sick. She even went so far as to tell her kid to avoid mine and what a mess that created.
Lets ignore the fact illnesses are rampant this time of year in Ireland, but sure yes, lets blame one child and treat him like his carrying the bubonic plague!
Okay! Mama Bear rant over...I've adapted an episode into this and changed around some of the wording and who says what.
Anyway, enjoy!
By a miracle, Atem survived his first day at U.A. It was certainly a bit more hectic than he was used to. The Cairo school didn't hold anywhere near the same amount of students and from the papers Aizawa had shoved in his hands about some camp before he left, he was about to be very busy for the next few days.
Supposedly the camp should have occurred during summer break, but with Mineta causing problems and Atem's transfer, they had decided to delay it till the new semester and they were leaving the very next day. Considering his ass had been dumped in the middle of a desert with limited supplies and told simply to figure it out, he wasn't overly concerned about what the U.A. teachers had planned.
Stepping into his home, still not really used to the plush extravagance his father had insisted on, Atem handed his belongings off to one of the servants and headed for the kitchen. They had lived nicely in Cairo, but here in Japan his father had gone somewhat nuts on the luxury and yes, though he had been a Pharaoh in his previous life, he had long since gotten used to living without such opulence.
As always, his mother was in the kitchen—attempting to bake. It often still twisted his heart when Atem saw her, because he had lost his mother before and yet here she was, living and breathing and smiling in warm delight whenever she saw him.
"There you are Temi!" Khepri gushed with joy, vibrant hazel eyes lit up. "How was your first day?"
Temi. Only she would get away with that ridiculous nickname. Where it irritated him from anyone else, with her, it turned him to goo. "It was fine mama," Atem told her, noticing with amusement his mother had flour in her thick black hair and icing on her nose. "It'll take some time though to get used to speaking in Japanese in school and Arabic at home."
"Oh, you'll adapt!" Khepri chuckled, reaching for a jar of cinnamon and drowning her mixture with it. "Make any friends?"
"Some, I suppose," Atem responded with a shrug. "They were more curious about my Quirk than anything, so, I'm not sure yet."
"Oh Temi! You've always been such a wary sort! No idea where you got it from."
Sixteen years of being a royal and three attempts on his life between infancy and early teen years where 'friends' of his family wanted him dead. Four attempts if you counted Uncle Akhenaten, but Atem kept all of that to himself.
"I like to be precautious, mama. Where's father?"
"In his study…Do you need him for anything, or is he still getting the silent treatment?"
Atem rolled his ruby eyes and opened up the fridge to get a bottle of water. "He didn't tell either of us about this whole upheaval until the very last minute. I get to be angry. You get to be angry, mama...you just aren't."
Khepri sighed and reaching for the drying cloth, she wiped off her messy hands. "Temi...your father doesn't do what he does to be cruel. It was a good opportunity and I wanted to support him in everything he does. As his only child, you should want to do the same."
Wincing at the subtle scolding, Atem silently grabbed a snack to go along with his water and headed up to his room without a word. He knew to a degree he was being unreasonable, but he was also a sixteen year old boy who had his life turned upside-down in more than one lifetime and honestly, it was getting irritating.
In his room, he smiled at his pet cat, Seto. The brown and white feline with vivid blue eyes looked up at him with a very familiar grumpy look and Atem was about to ask him what was wrong when he saw the black fur ball behind him, wearing a red rib about his neck.
Blinking in surprise, Atem approached, the kitten stirring and looking up at him with large dark blue eyes. He instantly thought Mokuba, and reaching out, lifted up the kitten who was now purring in delight.
"Is he to your liking?"
Jumping, Atem turned. His father Abasi stood in the doorway, hand on his nape and expression guarded. He was a carbon copy of Akhnamkhanen, save his buzzcut short hair of black, red and blonde.
"You got me a kitten?" Atem questioned softly.
"I figured Seto could use a companion," Abasi replied with a shrug. "And it's my pathetic attempt at begging for forgiveness."
With the new kitten nuzzling happily into him, Atem sighed. "Father…It's not that we had to move that upset me, it's how you went about telling us. Why didn't you just let us come to terms with the change?"
Abasi moved to Atem's desk chair and sat with an audible groan. His left knee throbbing from an old injury from years gone by. "Atem…You are the only child we will ever have. You came into this world a little too early and on that night I almost lost you and your mother both. To save her, we had to sacrifice her reproductive organs. I never regretted it, nor has she and I suppose it made us…well, me more so…cling a little to tightly to my little boy and fear rejection. I was terrified you'd hate me."
"Father," Atem croaked. "Never…I could never hate you and I'm sorry I've been such a pain…I just…It was a lot to take in."
"And I probably should have understood that better," Abasi admitted. "What will you name him?"
Looking down at the kitten now snoozing in his arms, Atem grinned. "Mokuba…He'll be Mokuba."
"Mokuba…I like it!" Chuckling, Abasi smiled and clapped his hands together. "So! How was your first day?"
"Interesting," Atem said, settling Mokuba back down next to Seto. "They set up one on one fighting to test our Quirk strength."
"Oh? Did you win?"
Atem beamed. "Naturally."
Head tossed back, Abasi laughed and tossing an arm about his son, he led him downstairs to try his mother's attempt at baking.
X.x.X
The next day, Atem arrived at the U.A. gates early and seeing everyone else had the same idea in mind, he joined his classmates. They were all pumped up for the camp, each talking about what they expected the training to entail. Of course, they didn't even know where they were going. Details were being withheld in an effort to plug a leak within U.A. that had been helping Villains run amok. Atem had to wonder was his father aware of that drama.
He noted Bakugo watching him but paid no mind. The grumpy teen honestly needed to find something better to do with his time.
"Atem!"
Looking over at the call of his name, Atem saw Izuku hurrying toward him and couldn't help but smile. "Good morning." He greeted politely.
"I wasn't sure if you were coming with us!"
Atem smiled. "I'm pretty sure I was added last minute after Aizawa got to see what my Quirk could do and read my school transcripts."
"Makes sense."
"I'm so psyched!" Ochaco cried out, popping up beside Izuku and making the boy jump. "I've been looking forward to this camp all semester, Deku!"
Atem chuckled to himself, watching Izuku turn absolutely crimson at Ochaco's close proximity and when she realised herself just how close they were, her face changed to match. Jumping away with a cry, she started up a chant and others soon joined in, all of them revved for camp.
"I heard some of Class A is taking extra courses. Does that mean they actually failed the final exams? That must be so embarrassing. Especially since you're supposed to be so much better than my class. All of you must be wallowing in shame!"
Turning at the unfamiliar voice Atem blinked at the blonde boy stalking toward them, his smile almost crazed. Izuku had stiffened next to him and when those odd eyes zeroed in on him, he could see why. There was something about him that put him immediately on edge.
"Ah, this must be the newbie 1-A got, I can't say he's much to look at from a Hero point of view. But he certainly is pretty."
Atem's ruby eyes widened when the boy reached out to touch him, only to grunt and hit the ground completely unconscious. Behind the blonde, a red head sighed and held out her hand. "Sorry about Monoma…He tends to run his mouth. I'm Itsuka Kendo."
"Atem Samir."
"I heard 1-A got a swap, that pervert Mineta is finally gone." Kendo shook her head in disgust. "The entire female student body can breathe a sigh of relief. How is Ochaco doing? I heard what the purple bastard did."
"Better," Izuku said, looking behind Kendo. "Oh! The rest of Class 1-B! It's nice to see you outside of the sports festival. I guess now we're not technically rivals."
"Attention, Class 1-A!" Tenya called out, "our bus is here. Everyone line up in seating order!"
Watching Kendo drag Monoma away, Atem fell in behind the others and climbed onto the bus. According to Tenya's carefully laid out seating plan, he was next to Rikido Sato. He hadn't spoken to the large teen before, but he appeared friendly enough.
"Hey," Sato greeted the minute the bus was moving. "I haven't had the chance to say hi yet…Atem, right?"
Atem nodded. "That's right. You're Rikido Sato, yes?"
"That's me! I here you're from Egypt."
It was easy to fall into conversation with Sato. He was a friendly sort and reminded Atem a lot of Mana of all people. He found himself enjoying the chat and getting to know another of his classmates.
At the front of the bus, turning in his seat, Aizawa figured he better lay out the plan. "Here's the deal. We'll be on this bus about an hour before our first stop. Make sure you stay focused—"
"Why aren't we blastin' some music?"
"No one should be standing! That is a safety hazard! Please stay seated!" Tenya demanded irately.
With the students chattering loudly, Aizawa shook his head, realising it was a lost cause. "Why do I bother? Well, I guess this is the only time they'll have to fool around."
"Do not open that window!"
By the time the bus stopped, everyone was more than ready to disembark. Atem stretched out his knotted muscles and straightened out his braid, scrubbing sleep from his eyes. He really hated travelling.
"Finally," Kaminari bemoaned, stretching with a grunt. "I needed off that bus."
"Huh," Kirishima stopped next to Kaminari and looked about in confusion. "This isn't much of a rest area."
"No," agreed Jiro. "And where's Class B?"
"You don't really think we stopped here just so you could stretch your legs, do you?" Aizawa asked.
Atem frowned, arms crossing. If it wasn't a rest stop, what was it? Hearing an engine, he turned and watched a fancy looking car pull up beside the bus and when out climbed two women all geared up in brightly coloured costumes with tails and cat paw gloves, the Egyptian wasn't sure what to make of them. He wasn't hugely familiar with Japanese Heroes, but they had to be Pros.
"Heya, Eraser!" The pair called out in greeting.
"Long time no see," Aizawa responded.
"Your feline fantasies are here. Say, 'meow. '.."
"Purrfectly cute and catlike girls! You can call us the Wild, Wild Pussycats!"
"These are some of the pro heroes you'll be working with at the summer training camp." Aizawa explained. "Pixie-Bob and Mandalay."
Izuku all but exploded with delight. "They're part of a four person hero team who specialize in mountain rescues! The Pussycats were founded when we were kids…like forever ago!...This marks their twelfth year working as a—" Izuku grunted when his face was suddenly engulfed by a large paw, claws biting into his scalp.
"I'm pretty sure your math must be off," Pixie-Bob snarled in warning. "I'm eighteen at heart."
"Understood!" Izuku squeaked.
"Everyone, say hello," Aizawa ordered.
"Hello! Nice to meet you!"
"We own this whole stretch of land out here," Mandalay explained, pointing toward the lush green down below. "Everything you can see. The summer camp you're staying at is there at the base of the mountain."
"Uh. Then why did we stop all the way up here instead?" Ochaco asked confused.
"I'm afraid we both know the answer to that." Tsui said warily.
"That can't be right." Sato chuckled awkwardly with a shake of his head.
"Um. Back on the bus." Sero laughed nervously. "Quick. Let's go."
"Good idea. Load up." Kaminari agreed, backing away.
"The current time is nine-thirty in the morning." Mandalay said, claws flexing and grinning dangerously. "If you're fast about it, you might make it there by noon."
"No way. Guys!"
"Holy crap!"
"Save yourselves!"
"Kitties who don't make it there by twelve-thirty," Mandalay called out cheerfully. "Won't get any lunch!"
"You should have guessed, students." Aizawa said calmly, watching as they attempted to flee, only to be blocked by Pixie-Bob. "The training camp…has already begun."
The ground suddenly shifted, Pixie-Bob's pawed hand glowing a moment before the whole of 1-A were tossed over the cliffside. Their screams pointless as they fell.
"What the heck?!" Ochaco howled in shock.
"It's Pixie-Bob!" Izuku shouted frantically. "She must be controlling the ground!"
Landing was not comfortable. Atem did his best to land gracefully, only to yelp a moment later when Kirishima collided with him, sending them both sprawling. Feeling like one big bruise, he cursed in Arabic and wiggled from beneath the bigger teen.
"Shit! Sorry man," Kirishima apologised, pulling him up.
"Good news!" Mandalay shouted down from above them. "Since this is private land, you can use your Quirks as much as you want to. You've got three full hours. You should be able to make it to the facility in that time. That is, if you can get through The Beast's Forest."
Gasps running through the group, they turned to face the line of trees that appeared to go on forever.
"The Beast's Forest?!" Izuku squawked fearfully.
Kaminari groaned in annoyance. "That sounds like a name right out of a fantasy game."
"Why do we keep falling for Aizawa's little tricks?" Jiro griped.
"I guess there's no use complaining." Kirishima said, dusting himself off. "Might as well get going."
Atem startled at a sudden growl, turning to look and gasped at the sight of a huge beast. From behind him, he heard Koda calling out, trying to calm the creature.
"Please calm yourself my giant friend! You don't wanna hurt him!"
But it did nothing and watching a huge claw come barrelling down, Atem grunted when he was suddenly airborne and blinked in surprise to find himself in Izuku's arms, green sparks dancing over the teenager. They landed several feet away and taking another look, Atem realised the beast wasn't truly a beast.
"Dirt, it's made of dirt!"
"It's Pixie-Bob's Quirk!" Izuku said, green eyes narrowed. "They must be obstacles!"
"Then we better take them down!" Dodging another attack, Atem called out, glad he had seen how his classmates Quirks worked the day before. "Yaoyorozu! Can you create me a bow?!"
"On it!"
Activating her Quirk, Yaoyorozu shaped a basic enough bow. Nothing as fancy as his own gear, but it would do. Catching it when it was tossed toward him, Atem reached for a scratch on his arm and used his own blood to form arrows, Tenya, Shoto, Bakugo and Izuku were already gunning for the creature, but there were others already forming.
Atem took it back. The desert was a cake walk compared to this.
