DISCLAIMER: This chapter is inspired by the 'Crazy Ponnie' episode from Victorious.
A strange new student named Ponica befriends Koichi, but keeps disappearing around other people and everyone worries...well except for Tobias...that Koichi might be losing his mind.
The story begins with a sleep deprived Koichi coming to school looking tired and awful. He enters the bathroom to wash his hands.
(toilet flushes)
(hand dryer whirring)
He exits the bathroom. While walking down the main lobby hallway, He hears someone crying in the supply closet.
(sobbing)
Upon investigating, Koichi discovers a girl named Ponica with shoulder-length, dark brown hair with bangs. Her skin is Rose beige complexion and her eyes are hazel. She wears black round frame glasses and a traditional lime green japanese jumper dress uniform outfit with lime green sneakers.
He knocks on the door, "Hello?"
a small yelp is heard behind the door. He opens the door and sees her sitting on the floor, eating a sandwich and crying.
"This room is taken." said Ponica
"Are you okay?" asked a worried Koichi
"why?"
"Well, you're sitting there on the floor, eating a sandwich and crying."
"I know." she sobs and stands up throwing her sandwich in the trash bin.
"Bye, sandwich. I wish I could go with you."
"Aw, come here." Koichi hands her a napkin from his pocket. "Dry your eyes with this."
"Thanks." Ponica wipes her tears with the napkin
"Of course. I'm Koichi, by the way. What's your name?"
"Ponica."
"oh, hi, Monica."
"No. it's Ponica. My name is Ponica, like Monica with a P. Ponica!"
Koichi raised an eyebrow, "Oh, that's different."
"I know. I have a terrible name."
"No no. It's a unique name. I always wished my name was Poichi."
Ponica adjusting her glasses and looks at Koichi with a smile, "you're nice."
"Thanks. so you must be new here at Budogaoka High."
"Uh, no. I'm a sophomore. I've been going to school here ever since last year."
Koichi raised an eyebrow, "You have?"
Ponica nods her head, "Yeah. I always sit in the far back of the classroom, but nobody remembers that I go to this school."
"Well, maybe people would remember you more if you didn't eat lunch here in the supply closet by yourself."
"wait, you want to eat lunch here with me?"
"No. I mean—"
"There's room for two in the other supply closet!"
"Why don't you come have lunch with me and my friends?"
"really?"
"yeah, come on."
"Okey-doke." They leave the supply closet.
Minutes later, outside of the Café Deux Magots, Koichi and Ponica are walking to the table where the group are sitting.
"I've never eaten out here before." said Ponica
"oh, it's just like eating in the supply closet. without the scent of the cleaning products."
Koichi walks up to the table, (Singing) "you guys. Hey everyone. I have a special treat for us."
"Ooh, is it cookies?!" said Okuyasu
"No."
"Cake?"
"No."
"Ice cream?"
"No."
"Cookies, cake and Ice cream?!"
"No! it's not food, Okuyasu."
Okuyasu crossed his arms, "Aw, I was hoping it was."
"I just found a new friend in the supply closet. She's fun, and she likes sandwiches. say hey to Ponica."
The group all turned around and saw no one standing behind Koichi.
"Ponica?" said Kiwi
"Who are you talking about?" Josuke added
a confused Koichi glances over his shoulder, "Ponica. She was–she was right behind me."
Josuke raised an eyebrow, "Who's Monica?"
"Ponica with a P. 'Pawn-ica'."
Tobias smirks, "What color did she dye her hair, 'jet plack?"
"Or 'dark prown?" Okuyasu added
Everyone except for Koichi laughed. Koichi walked back to the school to look for Ponica.
"Ponica?"
(sobbing behind the closed closet door)
"Ponica, what happened? I introduced you to my friends and I turned around then you were gon–"
He opens the door revealing it to be Hazamada sitting on the floor, crying.
"Hazamada?!"
Hazamada wipes his eyes with a napkin, "Sorry, this room is taken."
(nose blowing; sobbing continues)
with a confused and shocked expression, Koichi closes the door to continue his search for Ponica. Later, Koichi is at his locker putting things inside as he closes the door, Ponica, holding up a smiling clown mask, startling him.
(screaming)
"Hi Koichi!" Ponica rejoiced
"hey, Ponica. um, what happened to you at lunch?"
"sorry, I chickened out due to my shyness around other people, so I finished my lunch in the girl's bathroom."
"Oh, I knew you had shyness but I didn't know it was that type of shyness."
"Yeah. it is."
(school bell rings)
Koichi carries his textbook in his arms, "Well, I gotta get to class."
"Yeah, we don't wanna be late for Ms. Kuki's class."
"Oh, you have her too?"
Ponica continues to adjust her glasses, "Yeah. I usually sit in the far corner of the room and don't really say much."
"How about we walk to class together?" "That's nice." The two head to class.
"Ow!" exclaimed Ponica, rubbing her left shoulder carrying her backpack
"What's wrong?" said Koichi
"My shoulder hurts from carrying around the heavy textbooks. Would you mind holding my backpack for me?"
Koichi takes her backpack, "how about I carry it for you?"
"Thanks, Koichi." Ponica smiles
Minutes later, When Koichi reaches the classroom, Ponica vanishes once again as Koichi looks around the room for her.
"Alright everyone, take your seats."
"Wait, where's Ponica?"
Ms. Kuki raised an eyebrow, "Where's who?"
"Ponica. She's in this class with us, right?"
(disagreeing murmuring)
"Aw come on, she's one of us."
"Um, Koichi. Maybe you should just chill." said Josuke
"There's no Ponica in this class." Tobias added
"But…but she told me—Okay, alright, if there's no Ponica, then why do I have Ponica's backpack?! Hm!"
"What's in Ponica's backpack?" asked Okuyasu
"I don't know. Ponica stuff." Koichi finds the contents inside the backpack.
"Let's see, an ear of corn, an old dictionary, and a doll that looks exactly like me!"
Koichi pressed the button on the doll. "I'm Talking Koichi, and I'm evil."
Okuyasu raised an eyebrow, "Why would you buy that doll?"
"And where can I get one?" Tobias smirks, crossing his arms
"I am not crazy! There really is a Ponica here!" shouted Koichi
"There's no one named Ponica that goes to this school, Hirose." Tobias said
"It's true, Koichi. There's no Ponica." Ms. Kuki added
"Okay, okay, fine since nobody believes me, then I'll get proof myself and show you guys that there is a Ponica!" Koichi storms out of the classroom
Later, Koichi runs out into the hallway to look for Ponica. "Ponica?! Ponica, where are you?!"
"Why the hell was there corn and a doll that looks like me in your backpack?!"
"Ponica?! Pon–" He discovers his locker has been vandalized with 'Get the fuck out of my school!" written in red spray paint.
Koichi screams and runs away. Ponica comes from around the corner and puts his original locker back how it was and runs off. Koichi comes back with Ms. Kuki and his friends to see his locker to prove that Ponica vandalized it.
"See see, Ponica vandalized my locker! See what she just did!"
Koichi points to his locker. They all peered over Koichi's shoulder only to find nothing written on it.
Tobias rolls his eyes, (sarcastically) "Oh yeah, she really marked her territory."
"But, I swear, my locker said 'Get the fuck out of my school' just a second ago!"
"Are you sure you're not hallucinating like before, Koichi?" asked Okuyasu
"I'M NOT!"
Tobias crossed his arms, "Okay, it's clearly obvious that Hirose has lost his mind."
"But. But. But."
Tobias imitating Koichi in a sarcastic voice, "But! But! But!"
"But there really is a Ponica, I swear! she has brown hair, wears glasses and a light green school uniform and everything!"
"Yeah, and there's really a money tree growing in my backyard." said Tobias rolling his eyes
"I'm telling the truth here! there really is a Ponica that goes to this school! you guys have to believe me!"
Tobias crossed his arms, "Why should we believe someone that clearly lost his mind?!"
"I haven't! but–"
"Save it, Hirose. thanks for wasting our time with your damn hallucinations. I'm going back to class."
"Me too." added Okuyasu. They walked back to class. Koichi intercepts Josuke.
"Josuke, wait! you believe me, right?"
Josuke nervously rubs the back of his neck, "Well…um…I-I honestly don't know, Koichi."
Koichi's eyes widened, "Josuke."
"Look, I know you're my best friend and I'll always have your back no matter what, but it does sound far fetched. I've never heard of a girl named Ponica that goes to this school."
"Josuke, please. I just need you to listen to me. I know it sounds weird but there's actually is a Ponica."
Josuke gives Koichi a worried look as Koichi's welled eyes widened into a shock expression.
"You don't believe me, do you?"
"I never said that, Koichi."
"Come on, Josuke. your expression said it all."
"I never said that I didn't, did I?"
"But you don't, do you?" Josuke downcasts, upsetting Koichi.
"It's okay. I understand, you don't have to believe me. I know I'm telling the truth and that's all that matters. I'll see you later."
He walks away leaving a disappointed Josuke alone. At the Hirose residence, Koichi is talking to his sister, Ayanna about the Ponica incident.
"So that's where I found her inside the supply closet eating her lunch. I honestly felt bad for her so I became friends with her so she wouldn't be alone."
Ayana texting on her phone, "yeah, I hear you, Ko."
"But now she's tormenting me everywhere I go. No one, not even my friends believe me. I just wish someone would listen to me about this."
"Uh huh." Ayanna continues to texting
"Everyone at school thinks I'm losing my mind over this whole Ponica situation. I really don't know what to do now."
(phone alert chimes) "Pick a different color!" exclaimed Ayana
Koichi raised an eyebrow, "Huh?"
"Sorry Ko, I'm texting Stacey to pick different color shoes for our upcoming Fall fling dance at school."
"Wha–Ayana, I thought you were listening to me for the last 30 minutes!"
"Ooh, I'm sorry, baby brother." She ruffles his hair. (phone alert chimes)
"OMG! the new Tazzini Boots are out! And they have them in lilac!" Ayana shoves her phone into Koichi's face.
"Look Ko, aren't these super cute?!"
"They're adorable and I thought we were talking about my issues here!" Koichi said
"Again, I'm really sorry, Baby brother." Ayana continues texting as Koichi lets out a sigh.
(doorbell rings) Koichi gets up and opens the door. The sushi bento box and miso soup Koichi ordered arrives.
"Sushi bento box and miso soup. it's 38.85."
Koichi searches for his wallet as he is about to pay the delivery girl, he realizes it is Ponica in disguise.
"Sure. I think I have a–oh. I'll go get my card. you just—wait there." He closes the door and panics.
"It's her! It's her! It's her! Ayana, It's her!"
Ayana raised an eyebrow, "The sushi delivery girl?"
"Yes! No! it's Ponica! it's really her! she's in disguise."
Koichi grabs his sister's arm and drags her to the front door. "Come on! Come on! Come on!"
"Shh. Ah ha!" Koichi opens the door.
"What?!" said the delivery girl with a displeasing look
"Excuse me, what's your name?" said Ayana
"Lindsay."
"That is Lindsay, baby brother."
"Oh yeah, sure Lindsay the liar! that is Ponica."
"I thought you said Ponica had brown hair that wears glasses?" said Ayana
"she's in disguise!"
Without breaking character, 'Lindsay' rolled her eyes, "Look, am I gonna get 38.85 or what?"
"Okay, you keep on texting or whatever. I'm gonna have a little chat with…(air quotes) 'Lindsay'."
To prove Ponica's existence, Koichi goes outside to the porch and asks her why she is bothering him.
"Ok, Ponica, I know it's you! Why do you keep terrorizing me?! I mean, what did I ever–Ow!"
(groaning)
Ponica kicks him in the shin, "Get the fuck out of my school!" before dumping the miso soup food all over him and walking away.
a terrorized Koichi goes back inside to tell his sister, but she believes that he has lost his mind as Koichi runs up stairs to his room.
That night, Koichi is downstairs sitting on the countertop in the kitchen eating a bowl of ice cream. Mrs. Hirose comes down the stairs and sees him.
"Koichi."
"What?"
"It's 4:30 in the morning, sweetie. Why are you up?"
"You look upset, Ko."
(groans) "I just want someone to listen to me. Will you listen to me?"
"Of course, baby."
"Well, there's this weird girl at my school…"
"it's not that Yukako girl again, is it?"
"No. it's another girl. Her name is Ponica."
"Monica?"
"PONICA!"
(Koichi and his mother sit at the table) "Anyway, she's been tormenting me, and…and I'm just…I'm so worried that-what are you doing?" (Koichi sees his mother looking on her phone)
"I was checking the texts that I've received from your father."
"Mom, I am talking to you. I-I'm scared that this girl at school is gonna do something bad."
"Ok. Okay. Relax Ko. Take deep breaths. Maybe we can, uh–call that guy Blue guy who helped you retrieve your father's cold case file."
Koichi palm slaps his forehead, "Duh. of course, Mr. Blueto! I'll text him right now and let him know."
Mrs. Hirose blushes, "He's a very handsome man."
"Uh…I guess." said a confused Koichi
The next day at school. (bell ringing)
Koichi wanders into the hallway alone, attempting to lure Ponica out.
"It's just me, alone here in the hallway. No one else around." He buys a drink from the vending machine, only for a hand to grab him through the slot.
(screaming) "Come out of there!" (Vending machine door opens revealing Ponica inside)
"Thirsty, Koichi? (emerges from the vending machine)
"Who the hell are you?! What is your deal?!"
"My name is Hasabe Masitoko."
"Well, I don't even know you!"
"I used to go to school here, until you showed up."
"Huh?" Koichi raised an eyebrow
(points at Koichi's locker) "Your locker used to be my locker. Yeah, I got kicked out of Budogaoka High just so they could make room for you, and guess what Koichi? I'm angry about it!"
"Yeah? Well, you guess what!" (blows whistle but it is not making sound) "My whistle?! Why won't it…?!"
Ponica holds up a whistle ball, "Looking for this?"
"How did you get my whistle ball?!"
"The only thing you need to know is, I belong at this school. Not you, me. (yelling) IT'S MY TIME TO BE!"
"To be…ARRESTED! BLUE! (Koichi makes siren wails as several police officers rush over to handcuff Hasabe. Ms. Kuki and other students arrive)
"What happened?!" "What's going on–(sees Hasabe) Hasabe Misikoto?!"
Hasabe to Ms. Kuki, "Oh, shut up, you damn cow!"
Blueto walks up to Koichi, "you okay, Ko?"
"Yeah. Thanks Mr. Blue."
"No problem."
Minutes later, Josuke, Ms. Kuki and the others tell Koichi the real reason why Hasabe got kicked out of Budogaoka High school.
"No, she didn't get expelled from this school to make room here for Koichi."
"Then why did she get kicked out?" asked Okuyasu
Ms. Kuki crosses her arms, "Because she's crazy! A Lunatic! She stole things, carried weird stuff in her backpack, calling everyone Stephanie. (directed at Ponica) A real nutcase!"
Ponica to Ms. Kuki, "Shut up, Stephanie!"
They escorted her out of the building as Koichi and other students watched them nearby.
"Be careful with her. She's a slippery one." said Koichi
"Okay, kiddo, we're taking Hasabe down to the station. She won't bother you again."
(sighs in relief) "Thank you so much, Blue."
"Sure." Blueto leaves as Josuke and the others walks up to Koichi.
"Koichi, we owe you an apology. We should've believed you about this girl." said Josuke
"Yeah. we just instantly jumped into conclusions about you hallucinating again that we didn't even listen to you." Okuyasu added
"Are you still mad at us?" said Kyoko
Koichi smiles, "No. I forgive you guys."
Josuke crossed his arms, "Tobias, is there anything you like to say to Koichi?"
Tobias rolled his eyes and sighs, "Koichi, I apologize for not believing you and saying that you've lost your mind when you needed our help."
"It's okay, Tobias." Koichi smiles and hugs him
Tobias rolled his eyes, crossing his arms, "yeah, yeah. Don't get too comfortable."
"So, what should we do, now?" said Koichi
"Let's go see a movie!" Okuyasu cheered
"Yeah!" the group expected for Tobias cheered
