Present Day:
The Hoffans were an interesting people. Determined to fight the Wraith with knowledge rather then warfare. They valued knowledge so much, that they carefully preserved as much of it as possible. They also had one of the largest populations in the Pegasus Galaxy. Several million. The size of a city on Earth. Dr. Beckett falling for the pretty Doctor was fun to watch. His questions for Xander weren't though.
"Captain, can I talk to you for a moment? I've found something interesting and I need to discuss it with you."
"Sure, doc. Go ahead."
"What can you tell me about the procedure that led to you coding for perviously unknown proteins?"
"Not much. The swim coach dosed the steam in the steam room. I joined late in the season after a couple of kids from the team disappeared, so I was exposed to alot less and it was halted before it could conclude. The other kids on the team, it's believed they were exposed to alot more. Also, that the coach and an accomplice, the school nurse disposed of them. It's believed he or possibly they, killed them to cover their tracks. Doctor Fraser said, if the process hadn't been halted, I'd have mutated and that the others, who had been exposed to more, probably had and that's why the coach dispossessed of them. Samples that were collected were destroyed when the crime lab exploded, it was thought he was covering his tracks. Why?"
"Because the protein the Hoffans discovered and are trying to process bears a remarkable similarity to your proteins. In fact, I'd say, it may have started out the same and thru some genetic drift, changed slightly, but only slightly. That's quite a coincidence. Something created on Earth being found in a human that died a century ago on a planet in another galaxy. It could be just a coincidence, but it's an extremely odd one, none the less."
"I'd like to tell you more, doc, but I just don't know anymore then I've said. You're welcome to study my proteins, Doc Fraser's been studying them in her spare time. Short term exposure seems to have had a positive effect. It's long term that becomes dangerous."
"Aye, I believe I'll do that. Thank you, Captain."
"You can call me Xander, doc. Most people do."
"Xander. Well I'd better get back to work. Thank you for answering my questions."
"No problem, doc. Happy to help." Oh boy.
Carson decided to ask his new friend, Perna. Some questions as well.
"Perna, love, could you tell me anything more about the man this protein was found in?"
"He was the last of his line. He was descended from a couple that were heros of the Wraith War."
"The Wraith War? The Ancients war against the Wraith?"
"No, this happened after they left. They appeared one day on the Genii Homeworld, now adays they're a primitive farming society but back then, they were one of the most technologically advanced human societies in this galaxy. This couple proposed a radical solution to the war. Unite with other advanced human cultures, pool our resources and take the war to the Wraith, rather then just defend ourselves individually whenever they attacked. It took several years, but a massive fleet of more than a hundred ships were eventually built and crewed. Then they began attacking the Wraith. For quite awhile, they were very successful and then they learned that the Wraith had gotten ahold of several power modules created by the Ancients, as you call them, and had built a cloning facility. The fleet attacked, it was heavily defended and in the end, none of the fleet survived, but neither did the cloning facility. The Captain of one of the ships, the male half of the couple, his wife died in the battle, when he realized the fleet was lost, he ordered his crew into life pods and flew the ship into the cloning facility, killing himself as well. They left behind a two year old son, who was raised by friends of theirs. Merell was descended from them. They were known as Lex and Cor. They've never been forgotten by the people of this galaxy. They gave us hope, when we didn't have any."
When the Hoffans attempt to stop the Wraith from feeding on them, backfired and killed most of the population, Carson Beckett was forced to watch a woman he'd come to care for die, along with her people. After the expedition left the Hoffan world, they heard the Wraith destroyed the few survivors to keep their attempt from getting out into the galaxy.
He told AG 1 the story Perna had told him about the Wraith War.
"My people were part of the Wraith War." Teyla told them. "We were one of the more advanced societies. Lex and Cor are known to us too. They told us, they came from far away and were trapped here. They couldn't turn away from people in need, they said. They had to try to help. And help they did. They just didn't know that the Wraith could go dormant. No one did until years later, when they came back and began culling again. We lost hope for a time, but with your coming, we may find it again."
