Chapter 15 A Scare
555555555553I am sitting on the edge of the tub, still in shock that I see blood when I wipe. It's not heavy, but still. I'm scared, and I need Emma! I rubbed my belly.
"Oh, sweetheart, I hope you're alright. Ma will be here soon."
She moved to where my hand was. I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that she was okay.
"Regina!"
"Emma!"
Emma ran into the bathroom and knelt in front of me.
"Are you hurting anywhere?" I shook my head. "No, I'm not hurting anywhere. Emma, I'm scared."
She closed her eyes and exhaled, "You need to go to the ER. This is not a good sign."
I felt tears grazing my cheeks as Emma used magic to bring us to the hospital.
-StoryBrooke General-
We arrived in the ER, and we walked up to the desk. Emma explained my situation, and not even ten minutes later, Sarah came with a wheelchair. I sat down in it and was immediately wheeled into Labor and Delivery. Dr. Fabin noticed me being wheeled into room three. She followed us in and began asking questions.
"Madam Mayor, what's going on?"
I attempted to calm my sobs and explained, "I went to use the bathroom, and when I wiped, there was blood. It wasn't heavy, but I'm scared."
"Sarah, go get the ultrasound machine. I want to check on the baby."
I looked at Emma. "Emma, I'm so scared."
She kissed my hand, and I felt her magic flowing through me. Dr. Fabin patted on the hospital bed for me to get in it. Emma helped me up, and I got into the bed. Sarah returned with the ultrasound machine.
"Okay, Regina, let's check on the baby. Lift your shirt and pull down your pants to expose your belly."
I followed her instructions, and she put that gel on me. She moved the probe around and she stared at the screen.
"The baby looks fine and not in distress. That is a good sign. No signs of placenta previa, which is a very good thing!"
"What is placenta previa?" I asked, and Dr. Fabin explained, "Placenta Previa usually happens in older women during their second pregnancy. It's where the placenta attaches to the cervix. It could be fatal to the baby if it's not caught in time. I'm going to check your cervix."
I removed my pants, and she checked my cervix.
"Your cervix is thinning out, preparing for labor. This is why you are seeing some blood. I do want to keep you overnight for observation to monitor the bleeding. Don't worry, Mommy, baby is fine, and everything will be alright. You did the right thing in coming here."
I nodded, and when Sarah and Dr. Fabin left, I changed into the hospital gown and returned to bed. I sighed in relief, and Emma kissed my head.
"Thank God, it's nothing serious!"
"I know! That's a relief! Oh, let me text Henry to go home with Mom."
"You do know he's going to want to see us."
"I know," Emma said as she was texting. "I'm sending a group text to Mom, Dad, and Henry. I'm asking Dad to bring in the Amazon boxes."
I sighed in relief. "Oh, thank you! I didn't get a chance to use my magic to send the boxes to Katherine's room. I'm so sorry that I keep worrying you so much."
Emma sat on the bed, took my hand, and said, "Stop apologizing! It's not your fault. We are here to make sure this doesn't turn into anything serious."
I squeezed her hand, and we smiled at each other. Emma placed her hand on my belly, and Katherine moved toward it.
"Hey, baby girl. Stop scaring us!" I laughed because I knew Katherine was laughing right now, and Emma continued, "Hang in there kiddo. We only have two months left."
I put my hand on top of Emma's. Our eyes met, and I said, "I love you."
"I love you, too, babe."
Ding!
"Oh, Emma! Grab my phone."
She got my phone from my jacket pocket, handed it to me, and I opened the text.
Henry: Are you and Kat okay?
Me: Yes, sweetheart, everything is fine. The doctor wants to keep me overnight just to keep an eye on me.
Henry: I want to see you.
Me: Help your Grandpa bring in the Amazon boxes, and you can come with your grandparents to see me.
Henry: Okay. I love you.
Me: I love you, too.
I gave Emma my phone and closed my eyes. My heart was still racing from the moment I saw the blood. I was doing some deep breathing to slow my heart rate down.
"Hey," I looked at Emma, and she continued, "Breathe. It's going to be okay."
"I am breathing, Emma. I'm trying to calm my racing heartbeat. I am trying not to have a panic attack."
She embraced me, and I felt her magic embrace me, giving me strength. "Better?"
I smiled, kissed her cheek, and said, "Better."
I don't know how long we stayed in the embrace, but I heard familiar voices coming down the hall.
"Great, here's your mother." I groaned, and Emma laughed so hard she almost fell out of the bed.
We broke the embrace, and Henry ran in. "Mom!" He sat down on the bed and took my hand. "Are you okay?"
I nodded, "Yes, my love, I'm fine."
"Regina," Snow and David walked in, and Snow approached me, placing a hand on my shoulder. "How are you? Is the baby okay?"
"The baby and I are fine. Thank goodness, the bleeding was nothing serious. Dr. Fabin wants to keep me overnight to monitor the bleeding."
"Good, I'm glad everything is fine. Emma, do you want me to get you two anything? Extra change of clothes, supper…"
"Bacon cheeseburger with fries!" Emma and I said at the same time.
Henry and David laughed, and Snow smiled, then replied, "Alright, I'll go to Granny's and be right back."
Snow walked out of the room, and I turned to David. "Thank you so much for bringing in those boxes."
"Emma told me it was all for the baby, so Henry and I brought the boxes into the baby's room."
"Ma, I can't wait to help you assemble the crib!"
I smiled, and Emma said, "Well, get ready. This weekend is when it all goes down. We'll be picking a paint color and assembling furniture."
I still don't understand what I did to deserve Emma, Henry, and Katherine. I can't picture my life without them. They mean the world to me. I rubbed my belly, and Henry placed his hand on it. Katherine moved to feel our touch.
"Hey, sis, it's Bubby. Don't scare us like that again!"
Emma and I laughed, and then Dr. Fabin came in.
"I want to check to see if you're still bleeding."
She grabbed some gloves, put them on, sat on a rolling stool, and rolled up to me. I spread my legs, and she moved the blankets to where she could examine me.
"There's still some blood, but not as much as when you first came in, which is a good sign. I will come back and check on you later this evening."
I nodded and exhaled, and Emma squeezed my hand. I looked at her, and we smiled. Snow walked in, showing us the bag with food.
"Look what I have!"
Emma let go of my hand to grab the bag. She took out both burgers and handed me one. She took out the bag of fries, and I took two out and started eating.
"Mm…so good."
Snow smiled and said, "Happy I get to satisfy your craving."
After Emma and I finished eating, we told Snow, David, and Henry goodbye. They left, and I noticed it was getting dark outside. I closed my eyes and didn't realize how tired I was because sleep quickly took me.
-Dreamland-
I knew Katherine wanted to see me because I was standing in the meadow where we always meet.
"Mom!"
I turned to see my daughter in her adult form. "Oh, sweetheart, I was so worried!"
We embraced, and she said, "Don't worry, Mom. I'm fine. I will let you know if I wasn't okay."
"I hope we won't have any more of these little scares."
"Mom, I want to give you a heads up on what will happen in two months."
"Katherine, I already know what will happen. I already know that you're going to apologize ahead of time for hurting me. It's alright. It's all part of the birthing process."
Katherine shook her head. "That's not what I meant. That bad man is up to something."
"What are you talking about?"
"The man with the very dark magic. I don't trust him at all. Please, you and Ma, keep an eye on him. I don't think I'm safe."
"I promise you that he wouldn't do anything to you. Your Ma and I will make sure that you stay safe."
We embraced, and darkness took over.
-Hospital Room-
I woke up and noticed it was still dark outside, but the time read 6:15 a.m. I shook Emma.
"Emma, wake up. Emma."
"Hmm…Regina? Are you okay?"
I exhaled, "No, I just talked with Katherine. She doesn't feel safe."
She sat on the bed, took my hand, and asked, "Why doesn't she feel safe?"
"For some reason, she believes he will do something to her. Emma, everything that Katherine has told us has happened. What if she's right about this?"
"Listen to me, babe. Gold will regret the day he touches her if he does anything to her. He will be sorry that he messed with us."
She placed her hand on my belly, and Katherine moved to where Emma's hand was.
"Don't worry, baby girl, as long as you have Mommy and me, you're safe. The man with the dark magic won't do anything to you."
I exhaled, "I hope not."
