Author's note: First of all, many apologies for taking so long with this update. I didn't mean to keep you waiting for so long, but getting back into the groove of writing HP has been more difficult than I thought it would be. With regards to that, this story won't have two parts, but three parts. I need one more part to really get the ending right, so yes, a threeshot instead of a twoshot, sorry.

Part 2

"There really is something wrong with dad," James announced without any preamble that same evening.

All three of them were gathered in Albus' bedroom. Albus was sitting with crossed legs in the middle of his bed, his brother was occupying his desk chair and Scorpius was sitting on the edge of the bed, worrying his sleeve between his fingers. It was a bit after dinner and they had around an hour before Harry or father would come up to tell them it was time for bed.

Albus nodded in agreement; a tiny furrow between his eyebrows. "He's never been late before."

"Did he say why he was late?" Scorpius asked.

"Said he'd overslept," James replied and huffed. "Mum wasn't quite impressed by that, if you can imagine that."

"Mum definitely wasn't happy," Albus grimaced and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I don't get it. Dad has never overslept before – at least not when he has to come pick us up."

"Because he knows mum is just waiting for any excuse to drag us back to that judge," James said and scowled. "You just know she's going to be bringing this up for a while."

Albus made a non-committal noise. Scorpius had noticed early on that while James had no trouble being critical about his mum, Albus was less willing to be like that, preferring to stay out of their parents' arguments. Scorpius could understand that; he himself always made sure to be out of the way when his own parents needed to have a serious conversation.

"Father didn't even know Harry had fallen back asleep," Scorpius said. "He assumed Harry had left to come pick you up."

When Scorpius had told father that Harry had been asleep when Scorpius had found him, father hadn't looked particularly surprised. He had frowned and pursed his lips together, but he hadn't seemed baffled by it. Could this be tied to the conversation he had overheard last week? Right, he hadn't told the others about it!

"I overheard father and Harry talking a week ago and it was about Harry not feeling well," Scorpius remarked, sitting up straighter.

"Why didn't you tell us before?" James demanded, but he leant forwards with an excited glint in his eyes. "What did they say?"

"Not much that made sense," Scorpius admitted. "Harry went to a Healer and he and father were talking about keeping something? I'm not sure what, but father said it was too late for something and asked Harry whether it would be bad to keep it. Harry's mostly worried how we're going to react."

"That doesn't make much sense," James said after a pause. "You didn't hear anything else?"

"No, they were already talking about it before I overheard them," Scorpius answered and shrugged helplessly. "I couldn't really go inside and ask what they were talking about. They didn't know I was there."

"Dad can't be really ill then, if it's something they're talking about keeping," Albus commented, pulling his legs up to his chest.

"True, but that doesn't explain why he's been ill so often lately," James argued. "Clearly we didn't imagine that if he went to a Healer. You know how much dad hates going to Healers."

"I don't think anyone likes going to a Healer," Scorpius remarked. He certainly didn't.

Albus snorted quietly. "Yeah, but dad really, really hates going. Aunt Hermione once said that the only way to get dad to go see a Healer is by knocking him out."

"Isn't that usually how he ends up seeing them?" James questioned rhetorically.

"You know you shouldn't joke about that," Albus scolded him, but his older brother just shrugged.

"What, dad's joked about it too," he defended himself. He clapped his thighs. "Anyways, any ideas what it could be? So we know dad's sick enough to have seen a Healer, like actually sick, throwing up and everything. Whatever it is, it can't be a real illness, because Scorpius overheard them saying they're thinking about keeping it. Who wants to keep an illness?"

"Nobody, I'd hope," Scorpius muttered.

"Maybe we should just ask dad?" Albus suggested, biting down on his lower lip.

"You think he will answer?" James asked sceptically.

Judging by Albus' subtle grimace, no, he didn't think Harry would actually answer.

"If they worry about what we'll think, though," Scorpius started slowly, gathering his thoughts, "doesn't that mean that they will tell us?"

After all, there was no point in worrying what they would think about whatever father and Harry had discussed before if they weren't planning on informing them eventually.

"I guess," James muttered, crossing his arms. "It's just annoying that they're so secretive about it."

Scorpius couldn't disagree with that.

It was Friday evening, just two days before all three boys would return to spend a week at their mother's home, when Harry stopped them from going upstairs after dinner. He had been rather quiet throughout dinner, but he didn't look as pale as he had two weeks ago. He and father exchanged a meaningful look with each other that had Scorpius sitting up straighter. Albus looked curiously between father and Harry while James regarded them with sharp eyes.

"There is something we need to tell you," Harry started and cleared his throat.

"Does this have to do with you being sick?" James asked bluntly.

Scorpius wasn't sure whether he would have gone for the blunt approach, but it had Harry smiling wryly and father shaking his head lightly.

"It does in a way," Harry confirmed and his eyes grew distant for a couple of seconds. They cleared up as soon as father stroked his wrist. "I'm not exactly sure how I should say this, so I'm just going to be blunt about it."

"Of course you are," Father muttered.

Without even looking at him, Harry jabbed father in his side, which broke the tense atmosphere a tad.

"You're going to be a big brother soon," Harry said without preamble.

Scorpius was going to be a … big brother? He blinked confused and glanced at Albus, who was wearing an equally confused look, and James, who was frowning. So they were going to get a … sibling? What did that have to do with Harry feeling sick, though?

"Are you going to adopt a kid?" James demanded, bracing his arms against the table to lean forwards.

"No, it's not like that," Father replied, shaking his head.

"You all got the talk, didn't you?" Harry asked, smirking when both James and Albus blushed fiercely at once.

Scorpius didn't understand the reference at first until Albus cleared his throat and mumbled, "Dad's asking if you know where babies come from."

"Oh!" Scorpius realised with a jolt before his cheeks heated up as well, recalling the conversation father and mother had sat him down for a few months ago.

It had been pretty embarrassing, even with both father and mother acting normal about it, and Scorpius had honestly pushed that particular conversation to the back of his mind, content to no longer think about it.

Wait, if Harry was asking if they knew where babies came from, did that mean …

"So you're the one having a baby then, dad?" James was brave enough to ask what they were all wondering.

"Yes, I am," Harry replied and the corners of his eyes tightened as he watched them carefully.

"How does that work?" Albus asked curiously, tilting his head to the left.

Scorpius wondered about that as well. Harry was clearly no woman, so he wouldn't have the necessary parts for it, right? So how had it happened then? Through magic? A potion? But if they had used something like a spell or a potion, then they would have expected it. In that case Scorpius wouldn't have overheard that conversation between them, in which they were discussing what to do.

"Normally if two men want to have a child together, they need to use a combination of potions," Father started to explain. "But in our case, it's our magic that corresponded to each other and made this possible."

"Did you know this could happen, dad?" James asked, narrowing his eyes slightly.

"No, it came as a complete surprise," Harry sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Honestly, I didn't even know that it was possible through using potions, let alone through our own magic."

"You really need to start reading some more books about our own world," Father muttered.

"But you're going to keep the baby," Scorpius said slowly.

Harry nodded, still regarding them cautiously.

"We know this might be a shock," Father said, "but we hope that you can accept our decision."

"It's not like we have much of a choice, do we?" James asked sceptically.

"James," Harry said, wincing.

James shook his head. "I'm not mad, dad, it's just … Guess I didn't expect this kind of news."

"Well, I didn't expect to hear this news either when I went to see the Healer," Harry smiled wryly. "I thought I was just sick."

"Do you know if it's going to be a boy or a girl?" Scorpius questioned curiously as he rolled this information around in his mind.

So he was going to be a big brother. He was going to get a half-sister or a half-brother. Having grown up a single child so far, considering James and Albus more his friends than actual brothers, it felt strange to consider that by the end of this year most likely there would be a baby living here. He wouldn't be a single child anymore, but would actually be a big brother. That was such an odd idea. Not bad perse, just … weird.

"Not yet," Harry replied; the left corner of his mouth twitching. "We'll probably know during the next check-up."

"Does mum or Aunt Hermione and Uncle Ron know about the baby?" Albus inquired.

"Does mother know?" Scorpius asked as well. If she did, she hadn't let anything slip when Scorpius had been with her last week.

"No, you are the first ones to know," Harry answered.

Scorpius felt stupidly warm about that, while James wrinkled his nose.

"I don't know if mum is going to be happy with that," he said and Scorpius had no clue whether he was referring to the fact that Miss Weasley would be informed later than them or simply not happy about the baby as a whole.

"I'm not expecting her to be jumping up and down in joy," Harry retorted with a sigh. "It's not like she will have to be in contact a lot with the baby. I do hope that you will all be okay with it, though."

"Mah, I'm already a big brother now," James said flippantly and shrugged, jerking his thumb at Albus. "Being a big brother for a second time isn't going to be that much different, I guess."

"I think it'll be nice," Scorpius replied slowly, growing shy when Harry offered him a warm smile.

"What about you, Albus?" Harry asked.

"I suppose it'll be nice?" Albus said, worrying his lip between his teeth. "When will the baby be born?"

"Around the start of December most likely," Father answered. "We might get an actual date during the next check-up. If you want, you can go with us?"

"That'd be nice," Albus said and nodded before he glanced none too subtly at Harry's stomach area. "So, erm, dad, does that mean your stomach is going to grow bigger soon?"

"It stopped being flat around a few weeks ago," Harry replied amusedly. "It's not that obvious yet, though, and it will be a little while before you can feel the baby kick."

Right, Scorpius' eyes widened, they would get to feel the baby kick soon!

"So, you're all okay with it?" Harry asked carefully.

"It'll be a little strange to live with a baby," James admitted and scratched the bridge of his nose. "But I suppose it's not that bad? It's better than you dying from a weird disease at least."

"James!" Albus scolded, but Harry just snorted.

"A baby is indeed better than perishing from a disease," Father agreed dryly.

"I don't think mum is going to be that happy, though," James warned.

Harry sighed and leant back in his chair. "That's an issue for me to deal with. Don't worry about that, okay?"

"Can we help choose a name?" Scorpius asked curiously.

Father and Harry exchanged a look. "I don't see why not," Harry smiled.

"No ridiculous names," Father warned immediately, which just earnt him a deadpan look of all three Potters.

Scorpius thought he should feel offended by the flat look all three of them shared, but the news of the baby was too overwhelming to feel anything else. He was going to be a big brother by the end of this year! Who would have thought that?

"It's going to be weird to have a baby around," James mused as he strode into Scorpius' bedroom without so much as a knock.

Scorpius had become somewhat used to James' habit of just walking into rooms without knocking – father's and Harry's shared bedroom being the exception to this habit – so he wasn't too startled by his presence. He merely smiled at Albus, who followed closely behind and shot him an apologetic look.

"It is, but it's not that bad, I guess?" Albus said and rolled his shoulders. He nibbled at his thumb. "Don't really want to be around when he tells mum, though. She's going to flip."

"No doubt about that," James snorted and shot a glance at Scorpius. "What about your mum, Scorpius? How is she going to react?"

"Not sure." Scorpius shrugged and sat up a bit straighter. He was already in bed, dressed in his pyjamas with his book resting on his lap. "She and father are getting along better nowadays, but I don't know if that means she's also going to be happy about the baby."

He didn't think they would have actual shouting matches, but mother excelled in giving the cold shoulder. He didn't want to be caught in between his parents again; that had happened way too many times before right after their divorce and that hadn't been fun at all.

"Well, I guess we'll find out soon," James mused, leaning against the desk. "There's no way mum will keep quiet about it once she knows."

"Aunt Hermione and Uncle Ron should be okay with it, though," Albus piped up. "I don't think they'll make much trouble."

"Aunt Hermione won't," James agreed. "But Uncle Ron might be stupid about it. Remember, he wasn't really happy when dad started dating Uncle Draco."

"He's okay with it now," Albus argued.

"Because Aunt Hermione threatened to send him to the couch forever if he didn't start 'behaving'," James snorted, doing air quotes with his fingers.

"Well, it worked," Albus said after a pause.

"Are you really okay with it?" Scorpius asked curiously, addressing his question to James. As the oldest one of them, wouldn't it be weird to be that much older than their new sibling?

"Meh, I'm not really bothered," James said lightly and crossed his arms. "It's going to be weird for sure, but as long as the baby won't keep me up at night, it doesn't matter. Dad looks really happy with the baby, don't you think?"

"Well, dad always wanted to have a big family, didn't he?" Albus mused aloud, tapping his finger against his chin.

"Hm, that's at least what Aunt Hermione has said a couple of times," James confirmed.

"I think it'll be fun," Scorpius decided after a short pause. A bit strange, perhaps, but fun.

"Yeah," James said contemplatively. "I think so too."

Scorpius' mother wasn't exactly happy when father broke the news about the baby to her, but at least there weren't any screaming matches or cold silences to endure. Scorpius would take that as a win, considering mother hadn't been really ecstatic either when father had started dating Harry.

Harry's friends were apparently happy for him, as was the majority of the Weasley family – with the stress being on 'majority', because as James had called it, Miss Weasley was less than impressed when Harry broke the news to her. At first she apparently seemed more than ready to ignore it.

"She didn't say anything?" Scorpius asked surprised after Albus was done telling him how Harry's conversation with their side of the family had gone.

"Not a word," Albus said and shook his head. He crossed his legs and leant back against the side of Scorpius' bed. "James and I were surprised too, because we thought for sure that she would get upset."

"More like really angry," James scoffed, sitting backwards on the chair. "I mean, can you blame us? I think she still hasn't forgiven dad for falling in love with Uncle Draco."

"She was rather quiet about the baby, though," Albus remarked, tapping his fingers against the floor. "Maybe she's finally getting used to dad being with Uncle Draco?"

They grew quiet when Harry's voice floated through the corridor, responding to a house elf's call.

"What's wrong, Bilby?" Harry questioned, coming closer to Scorpius' room.

"Mrs. Granger in Floo, Master Harry," Bilby, one of the youngest house elves in their household, squeaked. "Mrs telling Bilby to gets Master Harry."

"What could she want?" Harry muttered and walked past Scorpius' bedroom to the room at the end of the corridor that was starting to function as Harry's office.

"Does Aunt Hermione Floo call often?" James questioned, tilting his head to the left.

"I don't think so?" Scorpius replied. "Not that I know of."

The only ones regularly Floo calling this home were Scorpius' mother, Aunt Pansy and Scorpius' grandmother. Bar that one time that the Weasley matriarch connected their Floo to that of father's so that they could talk, none of Harry's friends or family had contacted this home again.

"Where are you going?" Scorpius called out when James slipped from the chair and went to the door.

"Going to listen, of course," he replied offhandedly as if there was nothing wrong with eavesdropping on his own father!

"No wait, James!" Scorpius protested, but the older boy ignored him and walked outside. "You too?" he asked dismayed when Albus got up as well.

His friend shrugged and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, Scorpius, but I'm really curious too. Especially because dad wasn't expecting her to call."

"You're going to get into trouble," Scorpius warned him, but Albus just shrugged again and followed his brother.

Scorpius remained sitting for a little while longer, before his curiosity unfortunately got the better of him and with a feeling of shame, he slinked out of his bed and out of the door, hurrying to catch up to James' and Albus' retreating backs.

James' lips curled up when he spotted Scorpius, but thankfully he didn't say anything and together they crept closer to the door of the last room, which had been left ajar. They caught a glimpse of the room, showing a corner of the desk and Harry's back as he made his way to the fireplace where the flames were crackling green.

"Hermione, this is a sur- " Harry started to greet his friend, but trailed off for some reason.

From Scorpius' position he could see the older man tense up slightly and the boy frowned. Was it bad news perhaps? He hoped not. Ever since Harry and father had told them about the baby, both men had looked happier than they had in a while.

"I didn't expect to see you here," Harry said after a short pause.

"I'm sorry, Harry," Mrs. Granger spoke apologetically. "But Ginny insisted on - "

"Just because my dear ex-husband decided he needs to cower behind our sons to talk about it, doesn't mean I have to do the same," a vaguely familiar voice said coolly.

"Mum?" James whispered in disbelief.

Scorpius' eyes widened. Miss Weasley was joining the Floo call? She had never done that before!

"Who's cowering behind them?" Harry said, equally as cool. "Perhaps you've forgotten it already, Ginny, but I informed the whole family about the baby at once – and that family includes our sons."

"Oh, so you want me to believe that you wanted to share the happy news to the entire family as a nicety and not because you're too much of a coward to tell it me personally?" Miss Weasley sneered, stressing 'happy news' and 'nicety' with a mocking tone.

"Ginny, behave," Mrs. Granger warned her.

"However I'd done it, you would have found a way to spin it to fit your own fantasy anyways, so what does it matter?" Harry asked sharply.

"I don't think we should keep listening," Scorpius whispered uncomfortably.

James almost imperceptibly shook his head, staring into the room with intense eyes.

"What, do you expect me to be happy that that foul bastard knocked you up?" Miss Weasley shot back venomously. "You couldn't have a third kid with me, but you can have one with him?!"

Harry's cold laughter sent shivers down Scorpius' spine. "Don't you dare to put the blame on me for that one, Ginny. You were the one who didn't want a third kid and now you're going to act pissy all because Draco and I are having one together? Fuck off."

Scorpius was so taken aback by Harry's use of extremely foul language that he picked up the sound of approaching footsteps too late.

All three boys nearly jumped three feet in the air when a cool voice spoke up behind them, "Perhaps we should give Harry some privacy, hm?"

Slowly, wincing, Scorpius turned around and raised his eyes, meeting father's disapproving gaze. Now they had been caught. Great.

Father ushered them away from the door with just one look and then beckoned them to follow him. They did so, with slumped shoulders and an impending sense of doom. He led them all back to Scorpius' room where he closed the door behind them and crossed his arms, looking at them.

"Got anything to say for yourselves?" he asked coolly.

"I'm sorry, father," Scorpius said and hung his head guiltily. "We shouldn't have eavesdropped."

"It was wrong of us," Albus added, looking contrite.

James pursed his lips together, but nodded in agreement. Then he opened his mouth and said, "I just wanted to know why Aunt Hermione would Floo call here."

"You could have waited and asked your dad after the call was over," Father said, raising an eyebrow.

James looked away and muttered, "But sometimes dad doesn't want to tell us the whole truth."

"And that is his right as your dad," Father reminded him sharply. "Harry doesn't have to tell you everything. Do you feel good about what you've heard just now?"

"We're really sorry," Albus said in a small voice.

"You should be," Father said curtly. "No flying for you three this weekend."

James opened his mouth, presumably to protest, but Scorpius saw Albus stamping down on his foot to make him shut up. That was a very wise thing to do, because father would just increase their punishment even further if they dared to talk back.

"We understand," Scorpius hastened to say. No flying would really suck, because he had been looking forward to playing a game with father and Harry, but he also realised they had got off lightly with this punishment.

Father narrowed his eyes, but when neither of the boys protested, he nodded and left, closing the door behind him.

"I told you it was a bad idea," Scorpius couldn't help but remind James, plopping heavily down on his bed.

"How was I supposed to know Uncle Draco was nearby?" James complained and scowled. "One of you two should have kept an eye out!"

"One of us?" Albus repeated in disbelief. "Why not you?"

That led to an argument between the two brothers that Scorpius wisely kept out of. Unlike James he knew when to keep his mouth shut!
