Professor Juniper's office was filled with neatly organized paperwork and shelves stacked with books on pokemon training and Gym management. As Cilan and Ash entered, the professor looked up from her desk and offered a warm smile.
"Ah, Cilan, what brings you here today? And..." Professor Juniper asked, her friendly demeanor putting them at ease.
"Ash," Ash presented himself with a kind smile.
"Right, I saw your battle during the Lily of the Valley Conference," Professor Juniper recalled. "Quite an impressive battle."
Ash preened in pride. "Thank you."
Cilan stepped forward, adjusting his vest. "Professor Juniper, I've been giving it some thought, and I've decided to leave the Striaton Gym in the capable hands of my brothers, Chili and Cress. I will be traveling through Unova and train myself to become a better trainer. But as I am a Gym Leader I have responsibilities and paperwork to attend to, before going on such a journey."
Professor Juniper nodded understandingly. "I see, Cilan. I'm sure your brothers will do an excellent job. I'll get the paperwork ready for you to fill out."
Cilan smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Professor Juniper. That means a lot. Now, there's one more thing. Ash and I met a pokemon earlier, an Oshawott. Your assistant mentioned that he hasn't been chosen by the last few groups of rookie trainers."
Professor Juniper leaned back in her chair, with a frown. "Oshawott, you say? Well, it's unusual for a starter Pokemon not to be chosen. Let me check his records." Professor Juniper took a moment to look through his files before nodding. "You're right, Cilan. This Oshawott seems to have been overlooked by the past few groups of trainers. It's quite unusual, considering Oshawott's popularity."
Cilan's eyes lit up with an idea. "In that case, would it be possible to send Oshawott to my brother Cress? He would appreciate having a regional starter in his team. After all, he is a Water Specialist."
"Please let him do that," Ash almost begged. "Cress was not happy with me gifting Chili a Charmander and Cilan a Leaf Stone, and not gave him anything."
Professor Juniper chuckled and considered it for a moment before nodding. "That's a reasonable request. I'll make the arrangements. I'm sure Cress will be delighted to have Oshawott join his team."
Cilan extended his gratitude. "Thank you, Professor Juniper."
Once the paperwork and arrangements were completed, Cilan and Ash left Professor Juniper's office, and continued their journey towards Necrene City for Ash's next gym battle. As Ash and Cilan ventured through the scenic landscapes of Unova, they did not expect to meet, who they crossed paths with. Much to Ash's displeasure. With her long, wild hair and a confident aura about her, Iris exuded an air of adventure. It wasn't long before she recognized Ash and all that confidence puffed away.
"Hey, Ash," Iris began, her tone earnest and honest, "I'm Iris, do you remember me?"
"I do," Ash replied warily, while Cilan's eyes widened in shock. The older guy leaned over and hissed on Ash's ear: "The Iris? From Opelucid Academy?" However, Ash simply shoved him away and glared at Iris. "What do you want?"
Iris took a deep breath before continuing, "I wanted to apologize for how I acted back then, especially when I used your Haxorus, Drako, without your permission. I was... too harsh, and I didn't treat Drako with the respect he deserved."
Ash regarded her with a thoughtful expression. Her words were a far cry from the Iris he had known during their previous encounters. The transformation was evident. She was no longer the haughty girl she used to be. "Iris, I appreciate your honesty," Ash replied, a genuine smile forming on his face. "People change, and it sounds like you've learned a lot during your time with the Village of Dragons."
Iris nodded, a sense of humility in her posture. "Yes, Ash. The village taught me about the importance of understanding and respecting dragons and all pokemon. I've grown as a trainer, and I want to be better."
"Iris, I accept your apology," he said, extending an open hand towards her in a sign of goodwill. "We all make mistakes, but what's important is that we learn from them and grow. It's good to see you've found a new perspective."
Iris shook his hand, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you, Ash. I promise I'll treat pokemon better from now on, especially dragons."
With their conversation finished Ash, Cilan, and Iris parted ways. Cilan's observant and insightful nature continued to shine as he walked alongside Ash after their encounter with Iris.
"You know, Ash," Cilan began, his voice contemplative, "I'm a bit surprised you didn't invite Iris to travel with us. After all, she's changed a lot, and it seems like she genuinely wants to grow as a trainer."
Ash looked at Cilan, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well, I've forgiven her, that's true. But trust is something that takes time to rebuild fully. Not that she ever ha dit to begin with. I barely knew her and our first encounter left much to desire. Besides, it's not just about me—it's also about whether she'd be comfortable traveling with us."
Cilan nodded in understanding. "That's a valid point. Trust is indeed something that's earned over time. Everyone has their own pace of healing and rebuilding relationships." As they continued their journey, Cilan shifted the conversation to a topic that had intrigued him for some time. "You know, Ash, I've always found it fascinating how trainers and their pokemon types can influence each other."
Ash raised an eyebrow, curious about what Cilan meant. "What do you mean by that?"
Cilan explained further, "Well, the types of pokemon trainers choose to specialize in can often reflect aspects of their own personalities and values. But it's not just a one-way street. The nature and characteristics of the pokemon can also influence the trainer, helping them grow and develop as individuals."
Ash considered Cilan's words, thinking about his own journey and the countless pokemon he had encountered. "You mean like how my experience with dragons influenced me to be more protective and unforgiving when it comes to the well-being of my pokemon?"
Cilan nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly! Dragons are known for their protective instincts and strong bonds with their trainers. Your experiences with them might have shaped your own protective nature."
Whatever Ash was planning on saying in response was interrupted by the sudden encounter of a Snivy along the way. The sleek and confident Grass-type pokemon stood before them, eyeing Cilan with a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. Cilan couldn't help but be drawn to Snivy's elegant demeanor and the way she carried herself. He approached the pokemon slowly, extending his hand in a gesture of friendship.
"Hey there, Snivy," Cilan said gently. "You're quite the remarkable pokemon, aren't you?" Snivy regarded Cilan with a discerning gaze but didn't make any hostile moves. She seemed open to interaction. Cilan continued to speak in his usual calm and reassuring manner, "I'm Cilan, and this is my friend Ash. We're trainers on a journey, and we've met so many amazing pokemon along the way. Would you like to join us on our adventure?"
Snivy's eyes softened, and it seemed to understand Cilan's sincerity. After a moment of consideration, the Grass-type pokemon took a step closer and allowed Cilan to gently pet her head.
"I think that's a yes," Ash commented with a Sunflora smile. "Maybe I should talk to someone about my luck. I do come across rare pokemon quite easily. Finding regional starters and shiny pokemon on the road should not be this easy."
Cilan chuckled, feeling an immediate connection with the Snivy. With a Poke Ball in hand, Cilan carefully tossed it toward Snivy, and the pokemon willingly allowed herself to be captured. The ball wiggled once, twice, and then made the satisfying ding sound, indicating a successful capture.
Cilan retrieved the Poke Ball and held it in his hand, a smile on his face. "Welcome to the team, Snivy. We're going to have some incredible adventures together."
With their new addition, Ash and Cilan, decided to make camp and contonue their journey to explore Nacrene City, the following day. Once they found the perfect spot, set up their tents, and started on their dinner, they moved into something they've both missed doing together.
Training.
After leaving Snivy to acclimatize with Cilan's team, the two trainers focused on Ash's newest Thunder member. The poor pokemon was feeling down after her loss and Ash thought that teaching her a new move would make her feel better. Cilan and Ash were determined to help Astrape Confuse Ray, a Ghost-type technique. While Astrape was an Electric-type Pokemon, which was inherently different from Ghost-types, the trainers believed that with the right guidance and connection to nature, Astrape could harness the power of Ghost-type moves.
They found a tranquil spot in a lush forest, far away from any distractions. The dappled sunlight filtered through the canopy, creating a serene atmosphere. Ash, Cilan, and Astrape formed a small circle, ready to begin the training.
Cilan started, "Alright, Astrape, the key to learning Confuse Ray is to tap into the ethereal energy of Ghost-type moves. Electric and Ghost types might be different, but all pokemon share a connection with nature's energy."
Ash added, "You've got to feel the flow of the energy that surrounds you, Astrape."
Astrape nodded, her eyes reflecting determination. She closed her eyes and focused on the natural energy around her. The leaves in the trees rustled softly, and a gentle breeze seemed to sweep through the area. Astrape felt the presence of the forest and tried to connect with it on a deeper level. She felt its aura, its soul.
Cilan continued, "Now, Astrape, try to visualize that energy taking the form of ghostly wisps. Picture them swirling around you."
Astrape obeyed, and as she concentrated, faint, ghostly lights began to appear around her. These spectral wisps were her connection to the Ghost-type energy she sought to master.
Ash encouraged her, "That's it, Astrape. Now, focus that energy into a Confuse Ray."
With newfound determination, Astrape channeled the energy she had gathered into the Confuse Ray technique. A shimmering, ethereal sphere formed in front of her and then shot out toward a nearby tree. The impact caused the tree to sway, and its leaves rustled even more intensely.
Cilan and Ash exchanged impressed glances. "Great job, Astrape! You're really getting the hang of it," Ash praised.
Cilan added, "Remember, it might take some more practice to perfect it, but you've made excellent progress today."
Astrape beamed with satisfaction, her pink wool glowing with newfound confidence. The trio continued their training, eager to unlock even more potential within Astrape. They had a lot of work and determination pushing them to succeed.
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the moon cast its gentle glow over the rugged terrain, Ash, Cilan, and Astrape felt a sense of accomplishment wash over them. The trio continued their training until the very last light of day had disappeared. They pushed Astrape to her limits, helping her unlock more of her potential with each passing moment. The determination in their hearts was unwavering, and they knew that their hard work would pay off.
With their training session concluded, they settled down for the night. A warm campfire crackled, casting dancing shadows across their faces as they enjoyed a hearty dinner with the rest of the pokemon. Underneath the blanket of stars, they found their rest.
The following morning, as the sun began to rise, they packed up their camp and set out once more on their journey. The rocky terrain ahead was different from the lush forest they had been traveeling through the last couple of weeks, but that did not stop Ash from feeling excited. If anything Ash was delighted by the new surroundings.
Cilan was also delighted by it, especially when he stumbled upon another pokemon he felt a sudden connection with. As they ventured deeper into the rocky terrain, they stumbled upon a rather unusual sight - a Dwebble without his customary rock shell. The tiny, crab-like pokemon seemed to be struggling, unable to find a suitable replacement for his damaged home.
Cilan couldn't stand by and watch a pokemon in distress. He knelt down and examined the Dwebble with a compassionate expression. "It looks like this Dwebble has lost his rock shell," he noted.
Ash, always eager to help pokemon in need, chimed in, "Do you think we can help it find a new one?"
Cilan nodded with determination. "Of course, Ash. Let's see if we can find a suitable rock for our friend here." He began scanning the surroundings for rocks that might be the right size and shape for Dwebble's new home.
The trio spent some time searching for the perfect rock. It had to be just the right fit for Dwebble's size and shape. After a bit of exploration, they stumbled upon a promising candidate – a smooth, rounded stone that seemed to beckon to Dwebble.
Cilan picked up the rock and showed it to Dwebble. "How about this one, little guy? Does it look like a good shell for you?"
The Dwebble inspected the rock closely, his eyes filled with curiosity. After a few moments, he gave a tiny nod of approval, indicating that the stone would make a suitable shell. With rapid and quick moves, he cut the stone into the perfect shape he needed it to be. Cilan then gently helped Dwebble attach the stone to his back, securing it in place. The Dwebble's newfound home fit snugly, and he scuttled around with joy, clearly content with his new shell.
As the trainers turned around, to continue their journey, Dwebble scuttled towards Cilan and grabbed inot his pants with his pincers. Cilan smiled warmly, his eyes reflecting the satisfaction. "Hey buddy, would you like to join my team?" Dwebble nodded his head and happily allowed himself to be captured into Cilan's Poke Ball. "Another teammate, maybe I am the lucky one Ash?"
"Maybe you are," Ash smiled. "Two pokemon, in two days. Lucky you."
