The sounds of the crowd would snap Ritsuka Fujimaru awake from his nap. He found himself in a lounge at Haneda Aiport, filled with many figures ranging from adults in business attire to foreign families coming to the country for their summer vacation. Seeing the sight of children happily playing on their consoles would provoke an amused reaction from the fourteen-year-old teenager. It was rather nostalgic that it made him let out a small sigh before pulling himself up from where he napped.
He takes out an envelope from his bag. Immediately, his body would tense up just from looking at it. His breathing would become restless as he takes a moment to regain his composure. He would open it and take out a piece of parchment paper that was neatly folded inside. He had read this letter many times before throughout summer but it still didn't feel like reality to him.

Ritsuka would place the letter on his lap, his body slumps back, and looks up at the ceiling. He could almost envision the events that transpired. The bizarre circumstance that would lead him to go to school in a different country. A part of him believed that it was all some elaborate dream that he had conjured up during the dull days of school. But before he had realized, reality would set in and he would find himself in this situation.
It was the middle of November with classes at Ritsuka's secondary school had finished for the day. Not wanting to be alone at his house for the afternoon, he stopped by Shibuya Crossing to clear his mind and browse through stores that would catch his interest. It was nothing fascinating but it helped pass the time for him to catch up on things that he has missed over the past few days.
Going through a record store, he would browse some of the older antique pieces that caught his interest. He had never been one to keep up with trends that most people his age would go for, but he still considered himself a hobbyist of sorts. A good mecha anime would attract his glance any day and before he knew it, ended up buying multiple soundtracks of a particular showed that he liked. He would leave the record store, delighted with his new purchase.
"Dang, it! Where did the bastard go?!" A voice roared out nearby that would attract people to look over with a confused expression. Seeing the commotion, Ritsuka would walk over.
"What happened?" Ritsuka would ask the man.
"Some guy just left! He was a stupid dine-and-dasher too!" The man would exclaim, evidently frustrated by the situation. He would search around before noticing a man jogging away from the scene. "Oh! He's right there!"
"That person?" Ritsuka would turn over to see the man that the guy who pointing to.
"Yes! Catch that dine-and-dasher! He ordered twenty beef bowls and he's dang well gonna pay for it!" The man said before noticing that the man started to run away. Before he could say anything, Ritsuka would drop the records that he bought and dash towards the dine-and-dasher as fast as he could.
A white-robed figure looks at the scene with an interested expression. He would pay a close look at how Ritsuka acted instantly in trying to catch the man without hesitation. Seeing the scene, his interest would turn into one of amusement. The white-robed figure would walk across the street to where the bag lay on the ground, pick it up, and hand it to the restaurant manager. But not before placing a small envelope inside the bag and walking away while humming a small tune of a certain internet idol.
Ritsuka wasn't a superhuman by any means but he had played for his school's baseball team throughout the year and was fairly athletic. However, the dine-and-dasher was surprisingly mobile and would turn into narrow corners and push through busy crowds to try and escape. Ritsuka would struggle to keep up but would always have eyes on the dine-and-dasher no matter which path he took. Eventually, the two would reach the quieter portions of Shibuya that weren't as crowded.
"I ain't lettin' you catch me!" The dine-and-dasher would exclaim with a smug look, confident that he'll be able to outrun the teen. He would look in front to see a metal gate, easily seeing a path to jump over.
"S-Stop!" Ritsuka was starting to get exhausted from having to chase the man in circles for fifteen minutes. Gritting his teeth, he could see the man leaping from one item over another before reaching the top of the gate. He turned around with a small smirk before jumping off across the other side.
What happened next came so suddenly that no one could figure out what had happened. A nearby trash can that was standing in the alleyway would topple to the side which would cause the dine-and-dasher to trip over it and topple to the ground. He was dazed by the sudden pain that he tried to figure out what had happened. He would look over at the trash can, which seemingly fell on its own. With the dine-and-dasher distracted, Ritsuka seized the opportunity to close the distance. Realizing how close Ritsuka got, the dine-and-dasher would desperately try to pull himself up. However, it was too late as Ritsuka would climb over that gate and leaped on top of the dine-and-dasher, pinning the man to the ground.
"Hah... Hah... Urgh... How did you catch me?!" The dine-and-dasher yelled out in frustration at being pinned down to the ground by the teenager.
"I-It doesn't matter. You're the dine-and-dasher, right? You're coming with me to pay your bill." Ritsuka stated before pulling the man up and dragging him back by the collar towards the beef bowl place. The location of the restaurant wasn't as far given that they had only run in circles throughout the entire chase.
"Huh..." The restaurant manager would wait patiently near the entrance of the place with the bag of items in their hand. He would look around restlessly for any sign that the teenager had managed to catch the man. He could hear faint bickering nearby, turning to see Ritsuka dragging the man before plopping the dine-and-dasher in front of the manager.
"I-I managed to catch him." Ritsuka was panting heavily from exhaustion. He would lean against the wall, wiping sweat from his forehead while trying to fan himself.
"T-Thank you so much..." The manager was dumbfounded that Ritsuka had managed the task in the first place. But this attitude would soon turn to anger towards the dine-and-dasher before pulling the man up. "Twenty beef bowls! That'll be 8300 yen. Now, pay up!"
"Fine fine! I will. Here." The dine-and-dasher was annoyed that he got caught and had to pay on top of it. The man opened his wallet, taking out the bills before handing it to the manager.
"W-Wait? Huh? You had the money to pay for the food all this time? Then why would you not pay?" The manager asked dumbfounded by the man's actions over the past half hour.
"You're asking why I dined and dashed in the first place? It's simple. I did it for the fun of it!" The man spouts with a confident demeanor before looking at Ritsuka would a smirk. "I would've gotten away too if it weren't for that trash can that toppled over!"
"Hah?! What the hell kind of nonsense are you talking about?!" The manager would exclaim, furious by what he had just heard. Pointing at the dine-and-dasher, he would continue to yell. "Just get the hell out of here! You better not come by this shop ever again!"
"Sure sure thing. All that running is making me hungry. Wonder what I should get next..." The dine-and-dasher says before walking off, plotting what meal he can leech off.
"Seriously... I can't believe people like him exist!" The manager grunts before turning to Ritsuka, calming down a little. He would bow to the teenager with gratitude. "Thank you so much for catching him. You must be tired from all the running. It's not much but I can give you these for helping out."
The manager would hand Ritsuka a couple of soft drinks and a few vouchers. He would instantly open one up and drinks the entire bottle in a few seconds before letting out a massive sigh of relief from the cold beverage. After collecting himself, he would turn to the vouchers with a confused expression.
"What are these vouchers for?" Ritsuka asks.
"A few free meals at my restaurant. I wasn't expecting to get my money back from the guy but I'm all the more happy because of it. Why don't you use them the next time you're in Shibuya?" The manager explains.
"Really... Thank you very much." Ritsuka would bow in gratitude.
"That's my line, kiddo... Oh, wait! Before I forget. This belongs to you, right?" The manager would hand Ritsuka the bag that he had dropped while chasing the dine-and-dasher.
"Ah! My records! I almost forgot about them!" Ritsuka's eyes would light up from seeing the items that he had bought safely in his hands. "Thank you!"
"Don't worry about it. It's the least I can do about it. In any case, I should be going back to work. Take care." The manager runs off leaving Ritsuka by himself.
With everything finally settled, Ritsuka took the subway home. The trip home from Shibuya came in an instant. The heightened adrenaline would start to settle as he entered the empty household. He immediately plopped to his bed in exhaustion. His mind would wander emptily, thinking back to everything that happened during the day. The long and tedious lessons that his school would plague him, the short yet sweet moments of being able to hang with friends during break. And finally, the time in Shibuya made him wonder a bit about what the dine-and-dasher had said when he was finally caught.
At first, it seemed like someone grumbling that things in life hadn't gone their way. People would often find excuses when unfavorable outcomes come their way. Ritsuka would have thought nothing of it but it made him reflect on that moment. Both he and the dine-and-dasher would've noticed the trash can already tumbling on the ground. It was the only reason that Ritsuka was able to catch him. Maybe an animal knocked it over?
"Eugh... Forget about it." Ritsuka lets out after pondering on this idea. It seemed too complicated to ponder on the idea any longer. He would pull himself and pick up the bag of CDs that he had bought earlier. He would pull out the items and sees a clasp envelope inside. Ritsuka would pull it out with a confused expression.
The letter was considerably bulky in weight. He didn't remember buying anything that would be placed inside of it. He had almost thought it was a mistake when he noticed that his name was written on the front of it. Interested in it, he would open up the envelope and pull out the items inside.
The first item was a brochure of an academy that Ritsuka had never heard of before. It was when he realized that it was in another country. But the nature of it seemed entirely one of fiction from what he had read. Concepts such as charms, curses, and potions seemed like items that would be in a fantasy novel or manga that he would read. People can teleport from one place to another or able to transform certain things into objects. Ritsuka assumed it was some kind of prank that some stalker put on him. But the more that he read the contents that the brochure, his sense of wonder would continue to grow.
He was fascinated by what he would read ranging from the many fantastical creatures to the culture and society that this world had. The more that he read, the more he started to envision and wonder about his life in such a world. The potential possibilities that could be achieved with what was shown. At first, he would only use his imagination to envision what was possible, but the photos would show how limited his worldview was.
Ritsuka had assumed that the pictures would show certain well-placed shots that displayed the moments portrayed in this world to attract people into visiting. But that was when he noticed that the contents of the pictures were moving by themselves like an electronic tablet. But the items he was viewing were pieces of paper which made Ritsuka stammer backward in surprise. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. It wasn't some kind of illusion that was deceiving him, but pictures that were recreating certain events that took place in the school. It wasn't footage that could be edited on a computer, this is reality.
Ritsuka was unsure of how much time he would spend looking at the pictures in the document until something poked his forehead that would snap him back to reality. Through his excitement and wonder, one of his pens had levitated and was floating in the air. He tried to pinch himself awake but the sharp pain only signified that he wasn't dreaming. Just when the boy had thought that he had seen everything, one piece of reality set in that shaped his perception of the world.
He was a wizard.
"W-Would that mean that the trash can tipping over was from my doing?" Ritsuka asks himself. This revelation would make Ritsuka ponder events from the past. What supernatural things have happened in his mind that would come from the things that he might have unwillingly caused? What would that mean for his future and the possibilities that could happen now that he's aware of them?
That was when he noticed that there were other things inside the envelope. So many other items filled it that Ritsuka thought it was going to burst. He picks it up before unloading all the contents onto his desk. Tens of folders and papers scattered all over that some would fall off to the side. It was physically impossible for all of it to fit inside which would continue to certify Ritsuka's claim.
He would pick up a piece of paper from the top of the pile. A list of instructions meant for Ritsuka to take if he wanted to take his first step into the world of magic. What to do, what to search, the list explained all of the records that Ritsuka needed to feed this evergrowing curiosity of his. The list would help Ritsuka plan out his next year to reach t his goal. He picked up the brochure once more, with a small wave of determination in his eyes to see what potential lies in store for him. Through this, he would whisper a small "thank you" to the person who gave him this document. Their name was written at the end of the letter that Ritsuka had read.
"Thank you... Magi Mari."
Wassup, my homies. I'm not going to lie to you all. This isn't the best thing that I've ever written. If anything, I'd consider it to be very mid if I'm going to be honest. I love the overall premise of FujiTone so much that it just motivated me to write this chapter, to begin with. I'm not even sure if everything I wrote for this will even work to a point that people will even enjoy. After all, crossover/au's are not my forte at all. As such, I kind of wanted to ask reviewers what they thought of this chapter and whether I should consider expanding on it or not. Let it be known, that I'm talking about the Harry Potter stuff, not the ship. I will stan it until the day I die dang it! But anyway. Let me know what you think of this starter. I still don't know what I'm doing.
