Laughing, two figures burrowed under the covers on a huge and soft bed. It was broad daylight, but that didn't interest either of the two men who were slowly giving in to their lust.
"Arthur, stop that," Merlin laughed out loud as named ran his fingers lightly over a spot that tickled him and immediately made him laugh again. They both knew that what they were doing here was more than dangerous, because at any moment someone could knock on the door. But if that were the case, Arthur would simply refuse to enter, and no one here in the castle, was doing anything against the prince's will. And as far as he knew, everyone who might pay them a visit was busy with something else right now.
"Oh come on, you love it," Arthur laughed now, too, and immediately let his hand wander lower until it reached an equally sensitive spot, albeit in a different way. It elicited a long moan from Merlin. He threw his head back and pressed it firmly into the mattress. The movements became stronger and a soft and lustful "Arthur" crossed Merlin's lips.
"I knew you'd like it," Arthur laughed into the wizard's ear and slowly drove his tongue inside. He worked his earlobe and bit him gently.
"Don't you like to slowly take off your pants, too?" asked the naked Merlin, lying under his master and lolling seductively. He knew what he had to do to wrap his prince around his finger. You might not believe it, but Arthur always fell for his boyfriend's charms very quickly. It had always been like that. Even if the prince outwardly and in the presence of other people always acted as if Merlin was completely subordinate to him and he would not let anyone tell him anything, it was not always so. And Merlin was very happy about that. After all, it was these private and secret moments that made their relationship so special. Especially when no one else was allowed to know. Yes, no one knew that they had actually been a couple for several months. It was better that way, because if Uther found out, Merlin would be as good as dead. They both knew that they could never really be together as long as Uther was still King of Camelot. And it wasn't even guaranteed that everything would be okay after the king stepped down. Their entire future was still up in the air, even though the dragon kept emphasizing that they belonged together. But he didn't want to think about that now. He would rather be pampered by his blond prince, who was more than talented at it.
But somehow his thoughts had probably brought bad luck, because just as Arthur opened his pants, the door opened with a banging noise.
"Arthur!" it reigned through the summoned man's chamber. And none other than Uther Pendragon entered the room. Instantly, a spasmodic pain spread through Arthur. He felt sick and almost did not dare to move. But he knew he would never get out of this. Never!
"Arthur! What are you doing!" And already the imperious tone, changed to one of horror. Uther, too, was overcome with nausea, even if he did not show it as obviously as his son. He was deeply shocked by what he saw. Scattered clothes on the floor. And you could see exactly that the clothes, which clearly did not match Arthur's wardrobe, belonged to a man. And his suspicions were confirmed when he saw Arthur's servant in his bed. How could his son, the future king, do that? Sharing a bed with a servant! What a shame!
As far as he could, Merlin pulled the blanket over his body. For unlike Arthur, Merlin was completely naked and, as he suspected, bright red in the face. His prince, on the other hand, had gotten up and now stood in front of his father with his pants still open. This was a more than bizarre scene!
Uther did not even wait for Arthur to answer, but immediately demanded loudly for the guards. They had to get rid of this servant as soon as possible, before he could spread anything through the people that could harm the reputation of the royal house.
"Father please! Don't do that!" Arthur immediately shouted and glanced quickly at Merlin, who immediately understood what was being asked of him. Without saying it, he used magic to lock the heavy wooden door. Now none of the guards could get in.
"Guards!" the king shouted again, when still nothing had happened, and his son used this as his chance. However, he did not know what to tell his father now. What excuse should he come up with that sounded plausible and didn't put Merlin on the stake right away? Or should he tell the truth? Would Uther understand his love for Merlin? Probably not.
"Father, please listen to me! I can explain!" - He couldn't at all! What on earth was he supposed to do now?
"I don't want to hear any excuses from you!", Uther continued to shout. And there didn't seem to be any prospect of the king calming down any time soon. Rather, the opposite seemed to be the case. His face grew more and more colorful with rage, and his hands he had clenched into fists.
"How dare such a small, insignificant servant linger in your bed? This is a disgrace! I will have him executed at once, before he spreads rumors about us and drags your honor through the mud!" Merlin tried to hide himself even further in the blanket, but to no avail. He could still feel Uther's piercing and burning gaze on his skin. If looks could kill, Merlin would have burst into flames instantly.
"I beg you!" pleaded Arthur now. Merlin could see the desperation quite clearly in his voice, and even though his boyfriend had turned his back on him, he knew he could probably see the matching expression on his face as well.
A loud bang could be heard and the creaking of wood. The guards would soon break through the door. After all, the king had ordered for them, and they would obey the order, at any cost.
"It's not his fault!" - Arthur seemed rushed. What only could he do now? Soon the guards would be here to take Merlin away. They would throw him into the dungeon, where he would await execution. He had to prevent that! He simply could not let them do that to him!
"Who else would be to blame?" asked Urther, still angry, yet forcedly controlled. Yes, who was to blame? Merlin wasn't, they loved each other, but the king would never understand that. So who was to blame?
"Me" - Arthur had never been more convinced of anything than what he was doing right here. Never would he allow his cruel father to harm Merlin - Again, strong blows pounded against the door.
"I made him do it. He only obeyed my command" Firmly Arthur looked his father in the eye. He hoped that his father was so, something to appease. For even if Uther now felt contempt for his son for daring to be so defiled by the gall of a worthless servant, he now had no reason to have Merlin executed. Not if Arthur took the blame. And that's what he would do. - Another blow. The creaking grew louder.
"I've ordered Merlin to lie in my bed and let me do whatever I please to him" - Merlin felt sick. It just hurt so much, what Arthur was claiming. Or no, it didn't hurt what he claimed, but why. More than ever, Merlin realized that they could never be together. They would always have to hide, whether from Uther or from the world. This was proven by the fact that Arthur admitted to an abuse - because that was all he was describing - that had never happened. Because Arthur would never do anything that could hurt another person, especially Merlin. It hurt so much not to be able to stand by each other. - A loud crack can be heard and the splintering of wood.
"And you know, father, a faithful servant always does what is asked of him" - While Arthur was set up straight and steady in front of the king, Merlin lowered his head. He simply could not continue to watch this scene. What would happen now? Would the king still have him executed? Or would he spare him? Would Arthur now face punishment?
The creaking of the door was now dangerously loud. The guards had almost broken through it, only one or two blows were missing and the heavy and massive wooden door would give way.
"Stop it! Leave us alone" - And already the blows against the door stopped. Arthur allowed himself to breathe a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Uther was so eager to save face. That way, he would never reveal his son's "escapades" to the public. And now that Arthur turned out to be the culprit, he would have to approach the matter differently.
"There will be consequences for you!" the king growled, now addressing Merlin. The prince was well aware of how heavy these words weighed and he had every reason to be afraid of them. Especially since it was obvious to the king that he did not like the situation at all. He would much rather just call the guards to him and throw this worthless rabble, who called themselves servants, into the dungeon to rot. But even he had his principles. He would not let any, more or less innocent person be executed. If it was really the case that he had obeyed the prince's orders, he would have to find another punishment for him. For though, according to Arthur, he bore no blame for it, yet it was not proper as a servant to share a bed with a nobleman.
"You will leave Camelot before sunset and never return. Furthermore, you are sworn to silence, or I will seek you out, find you, and execute you! Are we clear?" Uther still had a look on his face as if he was about to kill Merlin himself. So Merlin merely nodded silently, trying to avoid that look.
"When you are ready, the guards will escort you to the border of Camelot. And you, Arthur, I expect in two hours!" - When Uther turned to his son, his tone became harsher and now it sent a shiver down Arthur's spine as well. He, too, merely nodded. And so Uther left his son's chamber, or at least he tried to, for when he tried to open the door, he bumped into an obstacle. Locked? The king was sure that he had not locked it when he entered. But the guards had not come in before either. So since when had it been locked? - He was clearly getting old. And after this excitement, he didn't really want to get to the bottom of the locked door either. He simply unlocked it and stepped out.
Now it was quiet in the prince's bedchamber and Arthur was still staring at the place where his father had just been standing. It was all so unreal, what had happened. Now they had been discovered and Merlin would have to leave Camelot. And him? What would be in store for him? He could already imagine some terrible punishments his father would prepare for him.
"A-Arthur," Merlin spoke cautiously. He almost didn't dare say anything. He was afraid to say anything. He didn't know why, though. Perhaps it would only truly become a reality when they ended this moment. If he said something now, they would have to realize that they would never see each other again. Merlin looked out the window.
"I have about five hours left," he said, looking back at Arthur. When he heard his friend's voice, he turned around. Merlin was sitting there, in his bed, still naked, looking at him with those incredible eyes. He looked at him with a look that almost tore him apart.
"We've been so stupid," the prince laughed bitterly.
"No, just careless" - Merlin held out his hand to him and Arthur liked nothing better than to take it in his own and sit down on the bed with his lover.
"Merlin, we will never see each other again. What have I done? Because of me, you have now been banished."- Done and exhausted, the prince leaned his forehead against Merlin's. He held his hands in a tight grip and kept his eyes closed. If he had to continue looking into his friend's eyes now, he would die. He just couldn't bear to know that he would soon be gone. Life without his servant and lover was simply unimaginable.
"You did the right thing. Uther would never have approved of our love. Before he would have burned us both at the stake. I am more than grateful to you for doing that for me. Otherwise, I would probably be locked in the dungeon now" - Merlin took Arthur's face in both hands and made him look at him. Carefully he put his lips on the prince's. Never again would he feel those lips. Never see him again. It hurt so much.
"What will Uther do to you?" asked Merlin after some time of silence. He was worried about his prince and hoped that he was not punished too harshly by his father. However, this was about Uther Pendragon, he would probably have his own son executed if it was necessary.
"I don't know. If I'm lucky, I'll only end up in the dungeon for a few days. Who knows. It's extremely important to him that I behave like a prince and future king, and he gets very, I'm going to say 'displeased' if that's not the case. And that's why it won't remain only with a long lecture. But you don't have to worry about me, I'll manage" - Again they looked at each other for a long time. Enjoyed this moment that belonged only to them, because it would be the last for them.
"Please, let's go together. If you're not here anymore, I have no business being here either. I-" - "No! Arthur, we can't. You know that if you leave with me, Uther will come looking for us. And then when he finds us, I don't want to imagine what will happen to us. You don't really think he'll just accept your leaving?" - Never would the king do that. He was far too proud to allow his son to rebel against him. And certainly not when everyone was aware of it. For Arthur's disappearance would not go undetected. They didn't stand a chance against Uther.
"I love you," was all Arthur could get out in a rough and brittle voice. And before Merlin could say anything back, he had already pushed him onto his back and laid on top of him. One last time he wanted to love Merlin. More intensely than ever before. He was going to feel with every fiber of his body that Arthur loved him and with everything he had. He had never loved anyone more than this clumsy little idiot. Arthur let his lips wander further and ran his hands over his servant's torso.
How could this have happened? How could they fall in love with each other? How could it have come to this? Why had they been caught, and then by the king of all people? Why couldn't the world have mercy on them just once. Why couldn't they be together like everyone else. Why did Arthur only have to be the heir to the throne? Why wasn't he a simple peasant? Then at least they could be together, albeit under the scornful gaze of the villagers. The dragon had spoken so much of a two-sided medal. Of a common destiny. That they would belong together. So why were they separated now? Why was their oh-so-great destiny doing this to them? Was this a test? Would they eventually get back together? Would they eventually be able to live a life together? Or will they die apart from each other? So many questions and not a single answer.
"I love you too"
Ealdor. His beautiful home was finally in sight. Soon he would see his mother again, and he knew she would freak out with joy when she saw him. And he had to admit, he was just as happy.
He had a march of a few days behind him and all his belongings in his backpack. Unfortunately, it was not very much. Some clothes and mementos, nothing more. Merlin simply had nothing left. Everything was taken from him. His friends, his new home and Arthur. - Arthur.
After Merlin's banishment and the painful farewell to Arthur, he had gone to Gaius to explain everything. And he had understood. He had accepted that Merlin and Arthur had fallen in love. And he had promised him to keep an eye on the prince during his absence.
After that he had packed his bags and had gone to say goodbye to his friends. He had told Gwen and the knights that he was going back to his mother because she needed him. Gwen seemed skeptical of this excuse, but said nothing more. The knights bid him a fond farewell and asked him to visit from time to time. Merlin could not help himself and promised them. He knew that he could never keep this promise, but what else could he say.
It was bad enough that he might never see Arthur again, he just couldn't bring himself to justify why that wouldn't be possible.
The last mile to Ealdor Merlin walked faster than before. He had to admit to himself that he was excited to see his mother again. He couldn't wait to take her in his arms. So he quickened his steps a little more until he was almost running. Then finally he arrived. Nervously he ran to his mother's house, noticing how the villagers gave him furtive glances. Of course, they had not forgotten him. He had been the serf freak of this village, as he had once heard a younger man say.
"Merlin?" he suddenly heard an excited female voice ask. He turned around and caught sight of his mother, who had just dropped the laundry basket while looking at her son in disbelief.
"Merlin!" she said again, this time much more delighted, and ran toward him. With a flourish, his mother fell into his arms, which he readily opened for her.
"I missed you so much!" she said, close to tears. Merlin could only nod in response. He had a lump in his throat and couldn't help but realize that he had missed his mother more than he knew. And especially after what had happened in Camelot, he was infinitely glad to be here. There was nowhere he preferred to be at the moment than here, with his mother. When he already couldn't be with Arthur anymore.
Arthur. How could he survive from now on without his prince? Without his love and loyalty. Without his stubbornness and temper. How could he possibly manage?
Merlin was sure that these would be the hardest years he ever had in his life. He would wake up every morning with longing. Longing for his prince. Knowing he had lost him through a little carelessness. Suddenly, hundreds of questions arose.
Would he ever see him again? Would he be able to live a normal life without him? Would Arthur live a normal life? Would anything change in their situation once Arthur was king? Would Merlin wait for Arthur forever? Had he now lost for good?
Merlin found no answer to any of these questions. Until the end, it would be one big mystery. Merlin only hoped it did not torment him too much.
